My One X Runs hot, very hot.. - HTC One X

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed it so far.. when charging the phone, and you do intensive WIFI/3G downloads (like updating apps from Play for example), the back of the phone at the camera area becomes really hot after awhile, and the LED indicator, which normally shows a always-on Orange light, will start to blink orange-green-orange-green...
After a day of experimenting, i think that the orange-green blinking is an indicator to tell us that the phone is running too hot, and needs to cool down before charging can continue..
anyone has similar experience?

it doesn't get that hot if you're not using the phone while charging, but try charging AND using the wifi/3G at the same time. within 10 minutes, my phone got pretty hot at the camera area.

I had a flashing led last night too

do you mean while charging or with normal use itself ?

All smartphones have this problem including SGS2 and Iphone 4s.
If you use max brightness + games for more than 10 mins it will get very warm no matter what's the brand or model you use.
The only treatement is to decrease brightness or downclock the CPU with SetCPU (temp profiles)

install battery indicator and check the how miuch the battery is heated, I have checked it quite a few times and it should within 30-32 C which is normal
dont find it getting heated with normal use, I am keeping the player on for many hours and calls etc, only when I charge it gets a bit warm but again not hot I would say

Not excactly but it became also hot for all when I charge

Orange green indicator will happen when you are charging the phone (orange) and when you have a notification (missed call, msg, downloaded app). Heating up happens naturally when you do work on your phone while charging. It will happen even if you do nothing while charging.

A Dutch website called Tweakers.net tested the temperature in comparison to other phones, and found it got hotter than other phones when used intensively. See attachment image to see what I mean.
What is says: "toestel" = device. "frontpage" means they let the browser display the frontpage of their website. Shadowgun is an intense 3D game from the market. "Shadowgun + lader" means playing Shadowgun while connected to the charger.

I only experience the high temperature when playing games on my phone for 5 mins onwards. Charging is fine. I think mine is working pretty fine considering I resides in Singapore where everyday is summer.

I forgot to mention they also say that this heat is felt through the entire body of the phone, as where on other handsets the heat is concentrated in one place.

It's perfectly normal dude!
It's the screen that gets hot and because the One X has a 4.7'' screen it's all over the phone

i'm starting to be concerned honestly, Desire/Nexus 1 are operating at their maximum thermal capacity and it used to get hot too, Desire HD has snapdaragon2 with very relaxed thermals and to be honest i don't like to have a hot rod in my hands, the DHD always feels pleasantly cold

[Q] One X (heating ?)

Hello,
I want to know whether it is normal, if I play a game like ShadowGun THD, after 2 minutes the phone is about 40 to 45C?
I use the Gauge Battery Widget for testing, because that shows an immediate temperature.
I also have a test.
battery recharge
Put in airplane mode.
Brightness at 100% put
Stand 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes the phone on standby, then immediately turned on the phone, the app started, and looked at how warm the phone was. And he was about 31.8C
Is this normal or not? because at play after 2 minutes the phone all at 40 to 45C.
Sincerely,
djbosanac
It is normal, but I don't consider it "OK". It is overheating badly.
The worse thing is it will also not charge when over 49... (it will discharge fast in fact)
Mine started getting that hot and caused the simcard contacts to warp. So I sent it back for a replacement. I do think the later updates cooled it down a bit but by that time the damage was done

Hmm so it isent ok? that is about overheating of 31.8C on standby and if i play on 40 to 45C ?
Is there a way that i can resolve this problem or not?
Or do i must bring the phone back for a new one ?????

When I was on 1.28 I had the same problem, in fact it went up to 50 degrees regularly.
After the first 1.29 update it was much much better.
Updated to 1.29.401.11 about a week ago and it seems to have gone back to how it was on 1.28!

But is isent so damageable? for my phone or?
@PurpleRob how stuppid can they be, to set is as it was before the latest update? so that you have again a overheated phone ?

While on charge as soon as it hits 48c it flashes green/red, when that starts it stops charging till the temp drops below that limit.
While off charge the battery should be good up to 60 the CPU is set to shut down the phone at 99 c
/sys/kernel/debug/tegra_thermal/shutdown_temp_tj
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I regularly see 50-55ºC even while browsing. But mine will still charge (1.29.401.11) maybe they raised the threshold? It's never shutoff on me but I've heard the upper limit for the phone was 60ºC.
I've contacted Expansys about this issue as when my phone stays above 50ºC for a while the screen yellows right above the home key. Hoping for a replacement, mainly because a case I used has already scratched the screen but it'd be nice is the yellowing and overheating was fixed.
When i check the temp_tj it says my cpu is 43,5 degrees right now, and i'm not doing anything ?
aren't some people reporting battery temp and other cpu temp ?
What software version are you running? My guess is 1.29.401.11 did something that while fixes the screen flickering, it causes the CPU to get too hot.
fellas,
the only solution currently available to reduce the heat is to use corecontrol app and change it to dual-core.
u'l notice considerable difference ofcourse without any loss in the performance..
what does it means, when you plugged in your phone to a load up again, and you get a red light? is that because the battery is full, or to heat? because when i unplug it, it is oke..
Charging
The red light when you plug it in is the phone simply telling you that it is charging, it will turn green when fully charged!

HTC One X Overheating?

Hey guys I have a HTC ONE x the quad core version and recently the weather has been getting warm in the UK. Yesterday I took my phone out of my pocket and I had fully charged it previously and the phone had dropped from 100% battery life to 15% in like 1 hour. Also I felt the back of my device and its was really hot.
Should I be worried about this?

Yes, you should be worried for 2 reasons:
1. You might be having a faulty battery
2. You might be having a rogue app that's sucking your battery
It's more likely the second reason than the 1st. Install betterbatterystats (BBS) app and check what's running in the background and force close that app. If there's nothing fishy in BBS, then I'd say to charge it fully again restart the phone and then check the battery drain..if it's still there, then get a replacement...

OG Pro Heating and Screen Dimming

How hot does the OG Pro get? What is the maximum brightness you can set it to when the phone is at its hottest?
I've seen a Youtube video wherein a guy was playing a game for just 1 minute or so when brightness dropped significantly. That was for the Korean version though.
It drops to 76% at its "hottest" which is really just lukewarm heh. The only time it happens to me is when I'm outside in the sun (I live in orlando fl mind u). But honestly I leave it on auto at 50% and even in the fl sun I can see the screen perfectly...

LG PRO go or NO!!!!!
I would be very cautious of purchasing a phone with overheat issues, such as the LG G Pro. I had the privilege of owning and I have extensively tested the Galaxy 4, HTC one, and LG PRO. The LG model was the only phone that had overheated warnings and disabled brightness. I was in a well vented air conditioned building while testing. I am not stating all LG models will be the same. I will say look closely at how many people have had the device shut down or give warnings and it even happened during a CNET review. The LG phone is a great phone, just dont feel like you have to buy a device just because. I am pretty sure better models that don't over heat as often will soon be released.
Since the SGS4, HTC One and OG Pro all use Snapdragon 600, if OG Pro is the only one that "overheated", maybe it's safe to assume that a software update can fix this.
I chalk up any overheating issues to a bad phone. There have been reports of the S4 overheating and while I had mine it never did that and my OG Pro hasn't either so far. Its a mini computer so anything can happen.
I just played with a display model in the AT&T store. The phone was shut off and I used it heavily for about 30 mins running a combination of GLBench, Youtube video, Google+ browsing... The screen dimmed to 92% after running GLBench Egypt 4 times in a row and that wasnt such a big deal.. The worst offender was Youtube while watching video. I watched a video for just a couple mins and the display dropped to 84% and at that point I was really noticing how dark certain colors were looking, like greens and blues. The G Pro is such a gorgeous phone and I really want to pick this up but im worried about this display issue. A 16% display brightness drop while in an air conditioned building after a few mins of watching a video is a problem!
I can only hope for a software update to help this... Otherwise I may join the GN2 bandwagon.

How many models of top '13year smartphones do you know which allow you keep 100% brightness over prolonged period of time been well under heavy load (gaming, benching) at the same time?
The HTC One has autobrightness feature which silently lowers brightness w/o even notifying you about it. The SGS4 as you've seen, notifies you about the brightness level has been decreased and cannot be raised to full

You can go to the hidden menu and disable the temp throtle. And the screen will be at 100% regardless of temp. But do it under your own risk. I actually got a higher score in antutu by doing it. But for normal use i keep it on. Only for games i disable the temp throtle. Theres a thread on how to do it somewhere in here.
If you don't find then: Open system menu by dialing 3845#*980#, go down the list, find items "High temperature property OFF" and "Thermal mitigation daemon OFF", check them both to Enabled ON & presto...with thermal mitigation daemon disabled you can achieve as high as 24700 in Antutu and the screen would not dim in hot conditions anymore.
Under your own risk. There's a reason why LG make this.
Sent from my LG-E980 using xda app-developers app
there aren't "overheating" issues. phones are computers and computers get hot, and phones can get hotter than most think is normal when they are actually just at normal operating temperatures. i have a nexus 4 and i have read about others getting their phone up to 90 degrees Celsius before it shut itself down because of the possible battery damage at this high of temps (this was when they were testing to see how hot it can get). even though my nexus feels hot the most mine has gotten to is about 50 degrees celsius which is well within the normal cpu range. now, hot batteries are a different issue, but the plastic in the ogpro is able to distribute the heat away from the battery, so the phone getting pretty hot is not an issue. i mean, obviously if your phone is getting up to 90 C then that could be overheating, but it doesnt sound like anyone has really gotten above 55 C which is perfectly normal and wont damage your phone even though it feels hot. if your worried about your phone getting hot then you can download "CPU+Temp V2" from the play store (its a widget) to see how hot your phone actually is. if you dont like the dimming screen then you can always disable it, but i dont think it is a big deal that it does it because i keep my phone brightness below 75 anyway.
stop worrying about your phone getting warm and just use it!

I was having some high heat issues but did a soft reset and it seams to have fixed it... not to mention I have more free RAM and battery life improved a little...
The soft reset consists of removing the battery while the device is on and leaving it out four about 2 minutes. Then reinstall battery and turn on & presto problem solved at least for me.

The thermal throttling/shut off starts at 50C (122F) while the phones are able to go up to 55C (132F). Editing the thermald.conf fixes the throttling / shutdowns.

A genuine unbiased reply, cuz I have G Pro, S4 and 808!
G Pro is a beautiful butterfly!
Though It has some heating issues. The maximum brightness you can set at the "hottest" is 76%, while is 24% less than the max, anything above 30% would be excellent for indoors, believe me!(you will get habitual to it soon, its good for eyes and affects battery performance too!)
I have GT Racing 2 and Asphalt Airborne. While playing with brightness under ~60, phone doesn't heats up!
It does so only when the load is much, and the screen is above ~75!
(save for 60-75, its a no mans land.. lol )
In a (very)bright sunny day, you will have to use 100%, else 50% will do!
ONE REAL BATTERY KILLER IS IR-EMITTER!
Newbies usually blame huge 1080p screen for eating battery, but in this phone, the IR-remote(app/hardware, idc) is the real problem!
To save battery, avoid using remote, and disable Quickset SetUp and Quickset SDK in Setting>Apps>Inbuilt!
Else everything is fine!
FOR NEWBIES,
As far as 3rd party software support is concerned, I haven't seen any proper ROM other than CM 10.2!
For me, LG UI is better than TouchWiz!
Its Lite(Technically)
it has got themes(icons+widgets), animation effects for home screen, lock screen effects, dual-layout icon set launcher(these are main things most people need a custom launcher for)
Its fast(faster than S4-S600 and equivalent to Note 3-S800 for me!)
I love this phone!
Literally, NOT BIASED!
I MAINTAIN MY PHONE MEMORY(RAM) AND KEEP PURGING MY EXTRA TEMPORARY FILES
MAY BE THATS WHY MINE IS FASTER THAN YOURS!
NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE

Running Hot - Just me?

Just received my Tab pro 8.4 today, and the 1st thing i notice is that its running a lot hotter than any other devices ive used before. Screen is not on Max brightness and it gets pretty hot after about 30 mins of web browsing. Anyone else have this issue at all? Can anyone offer suggestions to what might be happening or is it normal?
When i mean Hot, i mean it gets a little bit uncomfortable to hold. Its feels like its been left in the sun for about 20 mins etc... ill do a temperature test when it happens again.

I have no logical explanation for it but mine had terrible battery life at first and got hot when I first bought it as well. After several discharges it calmed down to a reasonable, though still somewhat disappointing, battery life and a normal temperature. Battery's often perform slightly better after a few discharge cycles but I have never owned another device that made so drastic a change before. let me know if you experience the same thing.
I have the LTE version and have exactly the same issue. I've noticed that when the tab is downloading something it gets very hot, and when I put the SD card in (I've been putting it in other devices to get data on it) it hats up for a while, presumably indexing.
All the times I've noticed it hot, I've also noticed the battery drain real fast, so I'm guessing it's just CPU intense (very intense) activity. The hot spot is on the left hand bezel halfway up - where I imagine the CPU is. I'm still trying to lock down the exactusage patterns that cause heading other than those two I mentioned.
And a quick word about battery, I'm about five cycles in and battery life had become truely excellent. After moderate-light use yesterday I went to bed with 73% left!!

Overheating question

Hi!
Yesterday purchased HTC One M9 and I recognized that it's way too much overheating than my old one Samsung Note2.
It's normal that after browsing on the web I can't handle it normally in my hand?
Battery temperature being 37-40 celcius. But all device is way too hot.
What is your experience?
Thanks,
Domas
Not that I had problem with it
I know it is hot.... Remember the body is aluminium which generate heat more than Sammy phone. It's not gonna melt anything but kinda annoying. Try a case and battery cooling app from playstore. It helps a bit

do the OTA update .. the firmware it ships with is Beta and runs hotter than normal
It's not beta, it has higher cpu clock 2,0 GHz that's the difference. And it throttles faster. The new one has 1,6 GHz. And it isn't getting that hot ?
I did the ota update and mine hasn't gotten hit since .js

Mine got to 51c during a backup: extremely hot!

Mine gets very warm when running Google Navigation or connecting to HTC's very own RE camera. However, neither these are new since I have the same problem with the m7. I use a car vent mount in the car when using Navigation to cool down the phone at the same time.
Mine gets very hot under regular usage, up to 45-50 degrees.
I'm on firmware 1.36.709.3
Can you post your firmware versions?
Thank you all.
I'm on latest firmware .33 and mine has gotten as high at 175*F. I put it right in my freezer which is at 23*F and it cooled in 10 minutes down to 32*F and warmed back up to a normal temp.
My firmware is 1.32.401.17
It gets hot under stress, other then that it gives off normal warmth
Thank you.
Anyone knows what is the latest firmware? and the one supposed to take care of the overheating issue?
Mine overheats a lot while on charge and heavy use when I have screen on for an hour or more
