Hi!
Yesterday purchased HTC One M9 and I recognized that it's way too much overheating than my old one Samsung Note2.
It's normal that after browsing on the web I can't handle it normally in my hand?
Battery temperature being 37-40 celcius. But all device is way too hot.
What is your experience?
Thanks,
Domas
Not that I had problem with it
I know it is hot.... Remember the body is aluminium which generate heat more than Sammy phone. It's not gonna melt anything but kinda annoying. Try a case and battery cooling app from playstore. It helps a bit

do the OTA update .. the firmware it ships with is Beta and runs hotter than normal
It's not beta, it has higher cpu clock 2,0 GHz that's the difference. And it throttles faster. The new one has 1,6 GHz. And it isn't getting that hot ?
I did the ota update and mine hasn't gotten hit since .js

Mine doesn't get hot on normal use or watch videos. But it get hot when I have a lot of apps to update. But, it cools down after and not very often I have that many apps update at once.
Mine gets warm even under normal usage. It gets very warm using sat nav or anything intensive.
Mine got to 51c during a backup: extremely hot!

Mine gets very warm when running Google Navigation or connecting to HTC's very own RE camera. However, neither these are new since I have the same problem with the m7. I use a car vent mount in the car when using Navigation to cool down the phone at the same time.
Mine gets very hot under regular usage, up to 45-50 degrees.
I'm on firmware 1.36.709.3
Can you post your firmware versions?
Thank you all.
I'm on latest firmware .33 and mine has gotten as high at 175*F. I put it right in my freezer which is at 23*F and it cooled in 10 minutes down to 32*F and warmed back up to a normal temp.
My firmware is 1.32.401.17
It gets hot under stress, other then that it gives off normal warmth
Thank you.
Anyone knows what is the latest firmware? and the one supposed to take care of the overheating issue?
Mine overheats a lot while on charge and heavy use when I have screen on for an hour or more

I was just curious to know if someone else's phone is over heating. Yesterday I was watching a boxing match on youtube with 4G on and it reached to a scary 121°. 4 hours later I was playing the nova demo with the screen at 45% brightness, played for like 20 minutes or so and it reached 112°. Just whanted to figure out if this is normal that personallyI think is not, and also if someone else it's experiencing the same issue. Thanks

Mine can get much hotter than that but it pretty much hovers around the 120 range when I'm browsing the web.
I also get this message when charging and watching a video. I need to exchange it. Just need to find a Best Buy store that has one in stock.
What do you use to check the temp?
mine gets real hot as well.. I think it has to do with charging while using though.
Woow thats amazing. Im guessing that those temperatures can be harmful to the phone right?
I use system info from the market to check my phone status very useful

It could be that and the stock charge pushed a lot of power in to charge quicker... But my input is that my phone hasnt even gotten very hot at all..

My phone was just laying in shotgun of my car with the car charger plugged in and the display on, then all of a sudden I picked it up and it was hella hot! 120° read SetCPU and I got shook, ripped the battery out and threw the phone in front of an AC but then I got worried that the extremities could possibly warp the board, so now Im thinking Im going to return my phone! In no way can this be good for the phone, I don't see how it can not get affect it when reaching 120, 130, 140 degrees!!! Im worried that in a week, a month, a year from now something will go terribly wrong and I really don't want to risk it, so I'm real close to returning this phone and just waiting for the Nexus!
I am amazed that a phone getting hot after heavy use is such a surprise to everyone. See any fans? see any ventilation? Here you are using a dual core 1.5 GZ processor, what were you expecting, ice water?
Ahh... Set CPU. So you can't really find the temp until you're rooted?
Hmm

Who mentioned anything about heavy usage and overclocking? CPU is 1.2Ghz stock buddy and I wasn't doing anything on my phone at the time it overheated...I have a Droid Incredible 2, and I run its CPU OC to 2.035Ghz and its never once gone over 105 degrees, so before you go getting all amazed, get your facts straight!
I have noticed this too.
With the phone simply in my pocket, my leg would feel warm. I could grab the phone and the phone would feel quite hot. Not so hot that it would burn my ear, but warm enough that it would feel like there's some kind of problem. Usually, heat = battery getting drained. When I check to see if there's anything running, there's nothing...
Right now, have been listening to Spotify for over 2 hours, and it's cold as ambient temperature. Will try installing some monitoring program and report if I notice more heat issues. I know the Evo3D used to get "burns my ear" hot when using it as GPS while connected to the car charger. My guess was that if the screen is on, and there's power going to it, it'd always get hot. Maybe it wasn't supposed to and that was just my assumption. However, same thing happens to this one; watching netflix, or playing a game, or anything demanding, and if I'm plugged, it will get really hot, really fast. If not connected, it won't get as hot, but "normally" hot nonetheless.

That you know of, did they ever fix the issue on the Evo3D?
Let me put it another way. I don't see any process or feature that will cool down the phone when in moderate to heavy use. I expect it to get hot. I have always thought, how are they going to disperse the heat?

Mine got hot on day 1 from youtube and general setup but after a full nights charge it has been great for 2 full days, no heating up or anything weird.
But man did it get hot!
Edit: I turned off gps the night this happened. I have been using my phone alot and have not experienced this again.
You need a dose of Penicillin and Cortizone. The burning sensations should clear up. In the mean time, stay away from strange phones and turn off the vibration loop - LOL
Sorry, but I've done quite a bit with my phone (videos, NetFlix, etc...) and it doesn't get warm enough to burn.
An Intel CPU (i7, for example) can run at 200 degrees Fahreneheit. In fact, the roof is about 100 degrees Celsius. To protect the CPU, there are heatsinks, fans, water cooling, etc. Video cards can also go up to 70 degrees celsius before showing artifacts; some can do much better.
We're commenting a heat that is not nearly that much for a phone. IF the SOC gets to 100 degrees celsius, that's one thing; 100 degrees fahrenheit...that is the temperature in many places around here.
These SOC don't need such fans, heatsinks, etc, because they're not supposed to reach temps of 200 degrees. They should be self contained.
On my Evo3D, which I passed on to my father, I could smell like something was burning. It wasn't, but it smelled like if it were, around the battery. Yeah, it still gets hot when in use, and specially if connected.
I believe there's also comments that on all new phones, the first few charges, while the battery adapts, the phone may be hot. Of course it had been over 2 months on my Evo3D and it still gets hot.
The E4gT is doing better today, but I haven't thrown any video/games at it yet; nor has it been in my pocket.
I'd say give it a couple days. I know I've reported my own concern, and I'll be checking it to make sure the "hotness" is within reasonable limits.

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed it so far.. when charging the phone, and you do intensive WIFI/3G downloads (like updating apps from Play for example), the back of the phone at the camera area becomes really hot after awhile, and the LED indicator, which normally shows a always-on Orange light, will start to blink orange-green-orange-green...
After a day of experimenting, i think that the orange-green blinking is an indicator to tell us that the phone is running too hot, and needs to cool down before charging can continue..
anyone has similar experience?

do you mean while charging or with normal use itself ?
All smartphones have this problem including SGS2 and Iphone 4s.
If you use max brightness + games for more than 10 mins it will get very warm no matter what's the brand or model you use.
The only treatement is to decrease brightness or downclock the CPU with SetCPU (temp profiles)

Orange green indicator will happen when you are charging the phone (orange) and when you have a notification (missed call, msg, downloaded app). Heating up happens naturally when you do work on your phone while charging. It will happen even if you do nothing while charging.
A Dutch website called Tweakers.net tested the temperature in comparison to other phones, and found it got hotter than other phones when used intensively. See attachment image to see what I mean.
What is says: "toestel" = device. "frontpage" means they let the browser display the frontpage of their website. Shadowgun is an intense 3D game from the market. "Shadowgun + lader" means playing Shadowgun while connected to the charger.
I only experience the high temperature when playing games on my phone for 5 mins onwards. Charging is fine. I think mine is working pretty fine considering I resides in Singapore where everyday is summer.

I forgot to mention they also say that this heat is felt through the entire body of the phone, as where on other handsets the heat is concentrated in one place.
It's perfectly normal dude!
It's the screen that gets hot and because the One X has a 4.7'' screen it's all over the phone

Yes.
It might be only placebo effect, but browsing with Dolphin Browser HD heated less One X than stock browser. It might have been only a coincidence and I haven't tested enough to reach conclusions. Yet, other users might confirm or infirm this impression.
This can’t be the normally operating temperature range. When my battery temp gets to 55 Deg C it reports the battery state as “overheat”. This can’t be good...
Ever since I used a custom rom my phone doesn't get any where near as hot, must be something with stock.

I played Riptide GP for a while and topped at ~38 Degrees. Even a 40 Minute Google Maps Navigation with attached Car Charger topped @ around 36-37 Degrees. Perfectly fine for me, tho other Games (or Demos) like Glowball which REALLY stress the GPU and CPU due to its graphics demo category heat up the phone to like 43 Degrees.
Other than that, I dont have any problems. I only start up Glowball for a couple of seconds to show off graphics power, not to do anything scientific in there.
EDIT: And what should I say. My standby time is around 26 Degrees when not in my pocket. In my pocket it goes up to 31-32 degrees, but thats normal since the casing kind of absorbs the heat of your body at some point.
When I surf the web for like 30 Minutes, my device never gets hotter than 34-35 degrees, even in comfy warm surroundings (like my flat).
The heat discribed in that article seems a little intense... Maybe there is a faulty batch with heat issues? The One X sure gets warm, but so did my old Galaxy S2 and on top of all, the old Motorola Milestone which became a rough ear heater when doing calls for more than 40 Minutes.
I had a 60 Minute call with my bro 2 days ago, and my One X just got up to 29 degrees... Dunno whats going on there. I always have temperature sensor apps running the first few weeks after I bought a new device.
>>>>“If the phone is in normal use without playing games or calling for long time, the temperature should be around 37°C or 38°C. But if you use your phone to play games or surfing internet for a long time, it will be normal that the temperature rises to around 55°C.“, official statement from HTC. <<<<
This is the one major gripe I have about the One X. It should not heat up to 50C no matter what. It may be "normal" for the One X, but it's not normal or good in general. I hope the next firmware update addresses this. I've gone through god knows how many phones and the heating issue is by far the worst with this phone. Some surfing and apps running for about 10 minutes should not warrant a jump to 40+ degrees in my opinion...

You should go replace it now, I get no overheating even when using overclocked kernels for fun. I have used mine for heavy gaming and have had no real heat to speak of... maybe the slightest warming of the back up on the top after long gaming session but not much certainly not "overheating"
Make sure your superuser is updated, including binary (launch supersu). It probably wouldn't hurt to go back to full, unrooted stock. You have modified it from stock after all...

Yeah that is not normal. I game heavy on mine and it doesn't over heat.
I was chatting with a friend on Hangouts for nearly two hours yesterday and it just barely warm after we got done, i'd go exchange it!
My old Nexus 7's CPU reaches up to 75 degrees celsius under overclocked benchmarking and sunlight without shutting down because there is built in thermal throttling.

I have no logical explanation for it but mine had terrible battery life at first and got hot when I first bought it as well. After several discharges it calmed down to a reasonable, though still somewhat disappointing, battery life and a normal temperature. Battery's often perform slightly better after a few discharge cycles but I have never owned another device that made so drastic a change before. let me know if you experience the same thing.
I have the LTE version and have exactly the same issue. I've noticed that when the tab is downloading something it gets very hot, and when I put the SD card in (I've been putting it in other devices to get data on it) it hats up for a while, presumably indexing.
All the times I've noticed it hot, I've also noticed the battery drain real fast, so I'm guessing it's just CPU intense (very intense) activity. The hot spot is on the left hand bezel halfway up - where I imagine the CPU is. I'm still trying to lock down the exactusage patterns that cause heading other than those two I mentioned.
And a quick word about battery, I'm about five cycles in and battery life had become truely excellent. After moderate-light use yesterday I went to bed with 73% left!!
