So I want a new phone.
I found one reseller near me that has 1 incredible in stock. Apprently it's the last one in the entire northeast. I like the incredible, I like the screen, like the size, don't like battery life, don't like no keyboard.
The Inc 2 (Vivo) is coming out soon. The only differences are a 4" screen (dislike, I hate big screen phones), 256 more RAM (no difference, Dinc is fas enough for me), and POSSIBLY better battery life (which would be a plus), don't like no keyboard. Inc2 will also have Wireless charging, but I doubt it will be any good, or portable
Another plus for the Dinc is that it's a "solved problem, root exists, it's been around for a while, there is tons of informaiotn on how to solve practically every concievable issue with the phone. Inc2 will be starting fresh, so ther's waiting for root, waiting for common issues to be sorted out, etc.
So which should I get? I hate the whole "whatever I pick, I'm stuck for 2 years" BS.
Personally I like the Incredible better then the Inc 2. I agree the big screen phones don't look good and not to mention require a man-purse to carry. Also agree that the inc has a huge tech base. All kinds of ROMs and themes. Another deal breaker for the inc2 is the screen is SLCD. I prefer AMOLED on my Dinc. Looks way cleaner and crisper.

Incredibles have SLCD now...
I've had an incredible since the day it came out. (4/29/10)
Its rock solid. With tweaking i can make it two days of mild to moderate use.
But if you want to go for a new phone, go for it. The incredible 2 will have 2 cameras, and a second gen processor. However, it looks plasticky, and its resolution is no better than the incredibles, so the screen, stretched out to 4 inches, will look lower quality. Don't expect great battery life either.
You might be wise to take a look at some of the other Verizon phones, like the thunderbolt, the droid bionic, etc...
The thuderbolt is even bigger than the Inc2. 4.3" is just too big for a handheld device. I have no desire to carry around a dinner plate as my phone. On paper the Shift is the best (3.8" with keyboard) bt the build quality and hardware design are quite frankly crap. Slider sucks, terrible button placement, and a crappy screen.
Anyway, turns out the incredible that store thought they had in stock, they didn't. But Wirefly says they still have some for sale (for free, too boot, since this is a new Verizon account for me) so I'll order that tonight.
Since I'm getting the phone for free, think it's worth spending the $70 for the year long proteciton plan? I'm a little concerned that they don't cover "negligent loss", although I suppose if I do lose it I could always just tell them someone broke into my car and took it.
Let me take this chance to also say you guys are a prety awesome community, I've been frustrted and posted a bunch of whiny little ***** comments, and people still help me. You guys rule
Just ordered in an Incredible 1. Was in the same boat as you and decided that I didn't need all the extras that the 2 had to offer. Seriously, at some point, it is just more gadget that I am going to use (two cameras?).
Best protection you can buy, IMHO, is a good case (I prefer Otterbox, but there are a lot of good options). The deductable on some of those insurance plans will wipe out any value the Incredible may have had anyway.
i think its a dillema
in one think, this incredible allready 1 year old, so it's basically left in feature n tech
more ram I think more great
but if you get a reasonable price for this incredible why not ?
I'm also still use my incredible as my multimedia phone, i love it very much.
If you really want a keyboard, wait for the Merge.
I thought you still had some time left to get a 1 year contract.
Why not buy a used Inc or "like new but never used"? I bought mine on evilbay that way, and it was new, just had been activated and shut off.
You could actually make $ this way. Get a new phone, like the 'bolt, or even the Inc 2, at the contract price, sell it for a good profit, and then buy the Inc on eBay for much less than the new gen phones go for. Plenty of newish Incs to be had.

Sounds like the best idea. If you reread your OP, everything points to the incredible anyway.

Honestly for you then I think you just answered your own question. Myself I think 3.7 is a bit too small. I'd like between 4 and 4.3. So the inc 2 will be mine one day...
I just got a Thunderbolt coming from an Incredible (coming from a Fascinate). I don't think say that you can't go wrong with the Incredible. It is solid in almost all areas. I used Juice Defender and then used Green Power while using a stock EVO battery and I didn't have any isssues with battery life. The Incredible has basically the same processor and is very snappy even when compared to any of the newest phones. I bought the Thunderbolt for the 4G speed and the front facing camera. I hardly use the front camera and the 4G speed is fast but I never have a strong signal to really take advantage of it. I use wifi 90% when I need internet so 3g on the Incredible is hardly noticed (3g isn't that bad for most things anyway) The larger screen is really nice and, to the contrary of what others say, doesn't require a man purse- fits in my pocket fine without a problem. However, in sum, I can honestly say that upgrading to a Thunderbolt isn't all that I thought it would be and I would be just fine with the Incredible.
I don't know why you would buy old technology at this point - the incredible is almost a year old. After having the incredible and using it more and more for browsing the net, I wish I had a little bit bigger screen. Maybe not the size of the Thunderbolt but tthe incredible 2 size would be perfect. Also, I upgraded to the extended battery on my incredible because the battery life is unbearable IMO even with root and custom roms. I haven't looked but I'd hope the Incredible 2 will have better battery life.
Finally found someone who had one in stock, wirefly.com had them, and it was free with a new line of service, which I needed (I'm coming from Sprint). So I sprung for the year long protection plan. Phone should be here Wed or Thu. I got 2 weeks to back out if something comes up.
meh... Incredible 2.
Id would go for the Incredible 2. It has a superior processor and more ram. Also bigger screens are not that cumbersome. If my friend who is 4'9" 90lbs and always wears tight pants with small pockets can lug around his Galaxy S all day I don't think its a problem. Also the DInc is being discontinued, after the gingerbread ota don't count on it getting newer versions of android except through custom roms, which will also die down when the devs get their upgrades. Not to mention all the other under the hood things HTC may have overhauled such as the motherbaord.
The 2 is a world phone you might want to get the thunderbolt that has the new sense UI and it'll get 2.3 update before the incredible. I'm on my incredible bow and love it but figure I would give you q little info if your planning on getting a new phone.

I just got my Inc about a month ago so I'm stuck with it for a while, so far it's worth it to me, it gets the job done.
Incredible 2
I'd wait for the inc2 because of the front facing camera 768mb ram newer 1ghz snapdragon processor and 4 inch display which is a perfect size not to big or small and because it is a world phone and because it will get more updates than the original incredible THE INCREDIBLE 2 might even get the rumored Android Ice Cream Sandwhich which the incredible one will not get and the incredible one might not even get sense 2.0

I bought my DInc off of CL for 200 back in December, so Im not stuck on a stupid Verizon contract. If you dont care about those things, then wait for a DInc2. My only fear about DInc2 and the Thunderbolt is that it may be severely locked down, which could hamper ROM development.
Thy have their pros and cons but if it is between the Incredible and Incredible 2 I say stick with the original. I2 has some cool extra's (2 camera's) but because the screen is larger and the resolution isn't any higher it won't look as sharp as D1.
If you want a newer phone I suggest the Thunderbolt or the Droid Bionic (that thing looks like it could be awesome!) but if you are fine with the incredible for a cheaper price it is a wise choice.
Hey so I have received an upgrade for a free 4G LTE phone from Verizon. I wanted to take any suggestions as to getting a Galaxy Nexus or a Droid Razr Maxx(for battery life). I root my phones so stock software is not an issue for me. I would also like to wait for the galaxy SIII but seeing as I am low on money might just have to take the free phone. Thanks for the suggestions also any other phone ideas would be welcome must be 4g LTE though.
P.S. will donate my Dinc to a developer when I get a new phone. Seeing as the developers have been great to me with AMAZING rom support.

Go with the rezound its only $50 bucks I believe to upgrade to
Rezound also has great devs that used to have the Inc.
I'm waiting for the Dinc 4g and it's S4 processor rumored to be released next week..
I love Galaxy Nexus and it has great devs from multiple phones so you get such a variety and a huge ROM community.
Razr Maxx may be a while before true root is obtained as Motorola loves to lockdown their bootloaders.

I'm waiting for the Incredible 4G, but if you're strapped for cash then the Rezound should serve you well. Keep in mind, Verizon will be instituting an extra $30 charge to upgrade (regardless of the price of the phone) starting on 4/22 so you better act quick if you want the Rezound for $50. That said, if you can scrounge up the dough, the Incredible 4G will be a much nicer phone (as long as you're OK with the screen size).
I just replaced my Incredible with one of the $50 Rezounds and I'm loving it. The Devs are kicking out some awesome ROMs for it.
The Incredible 4G doesn't seem like it would be a massive upgrade from the Rezound. From everything I could find on expected specs:
Dual Core 1.5ghz S3 -> Dual Core 1.2ghz S4
16gb internal storage -> 8gb
720p 1280x720 screen -> qHD 960x540 screen
GB w/ Sense 3.5 -> ICS w/ Sense 4.0 (of course, the stock ROM is only relevant for the first 20 minutes or so of ownership )
I can't comment on the performance difference between the two chips, but after spending a week or so with the Rezound's 720p screen, I'm not too excited about giving it up. Am I missing something here?
Maybe I'm stuck in the past, but I like having 4 soft buttons too. I use all four frequently.

I have to disagree... the Inc 4G is a massive upgrade over the Rezound (again, unless the 4" screen is a non starter).
The difference performance-wise from the S3 to the S4 should be like night and day.
The S4 will also greatly improve battery life, so it's a double plus.
The camera on the Incredible 4G should be amazing. Initial reports from the people who have supplied the leaked photos suggest that it will likely have the same caliber camera as on the One X/S series.
In addition to the performance, features, and battery gains, it will also be thinner and lighter than the Rezound (which IMHO is a bit brick-ish)
The Inc 4G also has NFC and Bluetooth 4.0. These may not be important for someone today, but they may be good to have if you plan on keeping your phone for the full 2 year contract (as I imagine most people do)
I think the ICS/Sense 4 without having to root is a big plus too. It may not be as important for folks here on xda, but as far as recommending phones to others goes... that is big. Even here on XDA, I imagine I'm probably not the only person who waits for the warranty to expire before messing around with rooting and such.
Yes, the Rezound does have bigger internal storage, but microSD cards are super cheap so it's not really a factor. Most phones that support microSD (the Incr 4G does too) support up to 32GB on the card, so you can get up to 40GB on the Inc 4G. Sure, that means you can get 48 with the Rezound, but I'm guessing only a small percentage of people fall into the 40GB isn't enough, but 48GB is camp.
Really, the only reason why anyone should get the Rezound is for the screen or the price. Price is the only reason I even mentioned it in the first place (because the OP wanted to save some money). FWIW though, rumors on the price of the Inc 4G put it perhaps at $150, which even after Verizon's new $30 upgrade charge would be less than the original Inc cost.
Not trying to hate on the Rezound... it's a great phone. I'm just taking issue with the "doesn't seem like it would be a massive upgrade " part of the comment. As long as you're OK with the 4" screen (which a lot of people are, and a lot of people have been begging for) then the Rezound doesn't even compare.
EDIT: I'm with you on the 4 buttons though. I don't really care about menu that much, since most devs are starting to get with the program and include the menu option on screen (via action bar overflow, or some other method). The loss of the search button, though, is devastating. It essentially killed Google Voice Actions for me. I would've rather seen on-screen buttons than the cap buttons. That way, devs could add my search button back in for me.
Yes the Rezound was on my list of possibilites... I wanted to wait and see the Galaxy SIII if Verizon gets it and the Inc 4G, but the issue was the voucher I got didn't have an expiration date and I didn't want it to expire and wind up having to pay full price for a phone. So since Verizon loved me eating up all their 3G data they gave me a $300 dollar Razr Maxx FO FREE!

My previous post and the line you quoted wasn't intending to diminish the Incredible 4G, more to ask what I was missing. A lot of the items you listed like performance gains, battery life, size and feel are hard to get a feel for "how much" from reading the quick previews on Engadget and the like, especially given my perspective of feeling the Rezound is so much faster with such a nicer screen compared to the original Incredible I just replaced.
I mostly questioned how much of an upgrade it would be when I read about the screen resolution, being one of the things that impresses me most about the Rezound. There is obviously more to the story.
Thank you for the insight.

Yea, coming from the original Incredible even the S3 in the Rezound is pretty mind-blowing. The S4 should give a little bit of future-proofing though, which is good when you're locked into a two year contract.

I'm currently limping along on my LG G2X (worst... phone... ever,) that has been rooted and loaded with various custom ROMS (both GB and ICS.) However, the bugginess, inconsistency and missing functionality are quickly making it unusable as my daily driver.
My question is, any other TMobile G2X users made the switch to the GNex? How has it been for you? Stability? 4G Speeds? Functionality?
I'm seriously considering taking the plunge, but would like to be REALLY SURE before I "convince" my wife that it is "only" option
Thanks in advance, I know these types of questions are a dime a dozen (though strangely I didn't see any pop up for G2X to GNex in my search... though that could be because the G2X SUCKS SO FREAKING BAD THAT PEOPLE REFUSED TO BUY IT OR SIMPLY CONVERTED THEIR OLD ONES TO BROAD-BASED GOLF TEES OR POORLY DESIGNED THROWING STARS... sigh.)
- Jeff
I have both an LG Optimus 2x P999 (G2X) and the Galaxy Nexus. I actually like the LG, theres custom roms for it and a whole section on it here (if you look). The LG has the Tegra 2, a good screen, and everything seems to work fine on mine. Its one of the better phones that works on Wind (canada). For a budget android, its great.
That being said it's no Galaxy Nexus. The galaxy nexus is a whole generation ahead of the 2X. I don't need to sell the specs and features on you. You have to justify your own purchase. You can sell the G2 for a decent buck and put it towards the new Gnex I guess.
This is the exact move I made.
Only I did it alot sooner, meaning I paid 700 for the Gnex in November... eased the pain a bit by seling the G2x for 300 to some poor sap
Now that the Gnex is 400 off contract direct from google, I would jump on it.
I enjoyed my G2x despite all its nonsense, but the Gnex is 100x a better experience.
I switched from the G2x to the Galaxy Nexus. It was one of the best moves I have done. The 4g speeds are about the same as I was getting on the G2x in my area. I have not traveled since I switched so I do not know about other areas. I am getting 5-6 on downloads and about 1-2 on uploads. The voice quality is great and both the voice and data connections are stable unlike the G2x.
I am running CM9 on my Nexus. It is extremely stable compared to G2x. Everything just works unlike the G2x. I have no problem getting a full day with moderately heavy use.
Well worth the investment. It is also contract free, depending on your plan and needs you can reduce how much you pay t-mobile monthly. I am on the value plan so I do not get the discounts on phones from T-Mobile. $400 is cheep for a unlocked phone contract free.
I switched from G2x and never had any problems with that phone (dual-core, fast, great battery, IPS panel). I like Nexus, but "newspaper" white is just killing it. G2x had very good colors.
I switched from G2x to One S and then Nexus because it was free for me. actually i gained like 20-30 bucks in process....
Unless you hate Sense or wanna flash CM9 or AOKP right away, I would get One S instead. Its better then Nexus in every way but development.
I switched from the G2x back in november!! Paid ~$700 for the european Nexus and had to sell the G2x for a pathetic $200. There is no market for the G2x here in Chicago, even Samsung Vibrants were selling for ~$300 at the time! Lol the G2x just never caught on and was left on the back burner, most unpopular android phone EVAR!
Anyways, to answer your question, GET IT!!!! It's the best phone I have ever had. Period. And I've gone through my share of android phones starting with the Nexus One, then the Vibrant, G2, G2x, and finally the GNex. The GNex has everything I could have ever wanted from a phone
I gave my G2x to my bro-in-law after "Sensation scam" happened on him.
GNex is better than G2x in every aspect EXCEPT:
1. memory card support
2. mass storage (MTP is painfully slow and wifi explorer can't transfer folders)
I can find plenty for cheap. I've been deployed and have a 4s and 4g came to our area so just curious if the nexus still stacks up good to new phones?
Also I should mention I had a galaxy nexus before the 4s so I know what it's capable of.

Yes, and if you can get it around 250 dollars, it will be a steal. It will last you at least 2 more major android releases and still be generations ahead of the apple phones.
Nope. Move along sir.
I got mine off of ebay in November after having an iPhone for 2 years. I was worried at first because I was stuck on 4.1.1 (I have the verizon version), which ran very smooth, but i bought a nexus to get the latest updates. After rooting and upgrading to MMuzzy ROM with Tiny kernal, I have yet to see a smoother phone. I was really only going to use this phone for about 6 months before I upgraded to something else, but I decided that this phone is more then enough for me. I love the stock android and the power is enough.
The only thing I hate is how bad the battery life is though.
I've found quite a few used for under 250$ lol one in excellent condition for 75$. Before I deployed my area didn't have 4g but now it does I'm not due for a upgrade till later this year so figured I go back to the nexus and get 4g for cheap. Battery life doesn't concern me just bring a charger every where I go.
*facepalm*
If you had one yourself before, why are you even asking?
sent from my Google Galaxy Nexus
Although it might not be the best comparison, I messed with all the hottest brand new phones at Verizon a few months ago and they are no where near as smooth as my galaxy nexus. The reason it might not be fair is I've been running roms and kernels since I got it. Stock for stock... I dunno. I wasn't all that impressed with the gs3, least not like I thought I would.
Well I'm asking because it was a year ago that I had the phone and wanted to know how it stacked up against the newer phones. I'm not currently in the states so figure it was a question worth asking until I got back.
No!!!
Battery sucks.
Camera sucks.
and so on..
We all know it is pure Android. But S3 is a way better. At least the hardware.
I still love my phone and will have to live with it at least one year
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I will say its a pretty solid phone even in 2013, it might start to feel a bit dated by Q3 but as of right now I think its fine. I bought 2 GNex for my mom and sister during Christmas. Sadly over paid for one @ $200 and the screen had scratches on it (night deal didn't see the scratches). The second one I bought was much cheaper @ $170 and came with a case and dock with an extra battery, but badly damaged housing. Only reason i bought that one was because the screen was perfect and replaced the housing for $15 bucks. Still cheaper then the first one I bought and now looks mint.
Dad got the hTC One S and although I love the build and design of the phone and the hardware is better. I still think i may trade that for a GNex or at least put CM/AOKP on it, coz hTC won't support it past 4.2 if it even gets 4.2 and as it currently stands its much slower then the GNex thanks to bloated Sense.
For my family members they use it as a phone more then anything else and maybe some browsing so I think it will last them another 3 years or so. Don't think Google will support it past Android 5 though.
These were major upgrades for them, coming from 1GHz, 512MB RAM and ****ty camera. The camera not the best but decent so can't really complain.
PS I love the AOSP look which is why i run AOKP on my S3 but Sense over touchwiz and hTC build quality over Samsung any day. hTC just gets cheap on the hardware mainly camera/screen and RAM.
Gnex is a good option because it will always have the latest updates and more roms than other phones but if you don't have a tight budget then go for htc one x+ or note 2 (if you don't mind the size), Nexus 4 would be a good choice but it's rare. I would not recommend s3 as s4 is going to come out soon or you can get an s3 after the launch of s4 as it'll be much cheaper by then.
Please discuss other devices besides the S3 here.
Thanks
FNM
Good place to start, because you know the "what do you think about the s4" is coming.
Re: Off-topic other device and upgrading phone discussion
I will hopefully get the ball rolling. I personally will wait with upgrading. Reason being is when I upgraded to the s3 when it was at preorders and rumors of other more powerful phones came out. Then the note 2 appeared. I was upset. I will personally wait for the next stage of the new and hopefully octa core processors that the note 2 or the next google phone comes out with.

+1 I absolutely agree with you Bruce Lee. There's really no need for the S IV. The S III does everything I need it to do and more. The last thing I need a phone to do is take over my life.
The only reason to upgrade from the S III to S IV would be bragging rights... How much are they really worth?

S3 doesn't have a 1080p screen with a 400+ ppi. It is as substantial upgrade as any these days. That being said, I'm going to skip over it. It's pretty much one step above or a half step above the s3 in many ways but I am under contract until December so I can't justify paying outright 500$ mostly for the screen overhaul. If anything I'll wait to see the Motorola X phone since it is supposed to be as low as 200$ from what I've read and wait for the s5 or whatever the new hotness is next year.

I found the Samsung IV release presentation extremely cheesy---I'm not sure what they were thinking.
I am disappointed at all the hype that preceded the release. What happened to the flexible, unbreakable screen? What happened to the very innovative Big-Little Exynos octocore that the US will not be receiving? And a pentile screen again!
I am pleased with the slightly bigger screen, the +400 ppi, and the bump in battery capacity. IMO, Samsung would have hit a home run if they would have built the Galaxy 4 with similar construction like the HTC One (instead of all the plastic). I hear the speakers on the One are amazing and I hope the Galaxy's are at least on par. My contract renews in January and so I will wait to see what the Motorola X and the new Galaxy Note will provide (if it doesn't go up to a 6 in. screen).
I'm completely happy with my s3, not planning on upgrading any time soon!
I don't understand the hype for 1080p displays... Playing any type of game is going to murder your battery, and you're waisting CPU cycles on pixels you can't see. I personally would've rather had a 720p samoled plus display. No more screen burn in, dark pixels, and battery effiecent.

Sammy has some new tech that's supposed to reduce battery used by the screen, forgot where I read that but I believe it said Nokia has used it as well before. I haven't used the s4 obviously, but the DROID dna has a 1080p screen and I at least can see a huge difference between that screen and my s3 or my girlys one X which is more comparable given that both the HTCs are lcd. Especially in plain text.

No I will not upgrade, this is something that I learned the hard and expensive way. There is always gonna be something better.
My thoughts exactly on the stupid Galaxy IV event:

So I'm coming from a Samsung Infuse, and honestly, this phone cannot piss me off even more than I already am. I'm talking about constant resets (stuck power button), terrible GPS reception, UNBEARABLE LAG even with the latest paranoid android, and finally, messed up APN settings which bares the phone useless since I can't have any service on it! So now you understand of my struggles with my current phone. I'm in search for something that I can rely on and won't have even the slightest bit of lag after 2+ years of owning it.
Now, I've been doing some research on some phones (gs3, htc one x, htc one, gs4) And I come here to find out your honest opinion on the GS3 since the time you've owned it. Should I save some cash buying a GS3 or a One X, or are there some sort of problems with these phones that have ticked you off that I should consider paying the extra buck and looking at the 2013 flagships instead?

I have had the blackberry storm WOW I literally through that against the wall it was stupid, I got an xperia arc, liked it got bored with it... then I got the Sony XPERIA ION enjoyed the 12MP camera but again it got boring. I can honestly say since I have gotten the S3 I have not thought about owning another phone, the ease of customization all the support for it and it works. I rely on it and there seems to be always something new to try out on it and I am still not bored with it. I am on the i747m.

I went from the Infuse to the GS3 and haven't looked back. I had a small crack in the corner of my Infuse and also the camera would not focus so I called up to see what my options were to get it replaced through the insurance plan. They told me my replacement was going to be a GS3 but that a $200 deductable would be charged to my next bill. It was a no brainer, especially since I am not eligable for an upgrade for another year. The GS3 is head and shoulders above the Infuse. It's a flagship phone with tons of support. I got it and rooted it that night. There are tons of great roms on XDA and have tried most of them. This phone is amazing. Can't really see why I'd get the S4. Perhaps when the Note 3 comes out, I would consider upgrading. An even larger screen would be very welcome.
Re: Off-topic other device and upgrading phone discussion
An upgrade is really dependant on what you use a device for. The s3 does pretty much what I need it to do for work and for personnel uses.
It's plenty fast still. I ran my iPhone 4 to end of contract and still think it could what I need from a phone.

why would they release another of the same version?
It would be nexus 5 or some other name, they wouldn't reuse the same name
Just moved from my trusty Nexus S to the Canadian Galaxy S3. Love it. Finally I have free ram even when doing intensive tasks. Honestly, this is what Android should feel like.
Still learning the thing, installed TWRP, flashed latest cm10.1 nightly and put back my titanium backup. This thing feels like home, but twice as fast.
It's a bit of a shame there's so many S3 variants, really spreads out the development for it, whereas on the Nexus S there were very few versions (like 4, which all shared similar internals minus modems), making things very simple.
I'll see you guys around!

Wow, Samsung 4 is $250 at AT&T and I can only assume that Verizon and possibly Sprint will follow suit:
http://www.phonearena.com/news/AT-T-Galaxy-S4-price-will-be-249-pre-orders-start-on-April-16_id41309
This is a mistake and will cost them some sales numbers. I'm sure HTC, Motorola/Google, and LG are licking their chops.
Tmobile no contract $99 Galaxy S IV is really tempting. Too bad their service sucks in this area. I'll be at 18 months come January and ready to upgrade and am currently tempted by the LG Optimus G Pro and am awaiting the details on the Google X. It sounds like the Note 3 screen will be too big for my liking.
