Thinking of upgrading to GSM Nexus from iPhone 4s. Some input..

I have been a longtime iPhone and Android user and currently I am using the iPhone 4s. It's a great phone, but I tend to miss Android and all that it offers.
Here is my question.. Does anyone think $690 for the GSM Nexus is worth it? I have been going back and forth on it and I think I would really like it, however I can never seem to keep an Android phone because nothing is really new with it.
Here is an example. I had the Verizon Thunderbolt, it was a nice phone, fast and really allowed Android to shine. I then saw the T-Mobile Sensation come out and it was a dual core with nice specs. Another really nice phone. But again, noting super new with Android. Not to mention T-Moble's network blows around here.
I hoped to ATT and I love the coverage and have tried the iPhone 4, 4s (current) and Skyrocket.
So, will Android 4 on the Nexus be new and improved enough to make the switch?

I should pay attention, I see the subsidized Verizon phone still is $300. Maybe $600+ is an ok price.

Honestly I only think paying full price for the GSM Nexus is worth it if you get the $30 Walmart plan on T-Mobile.

I personally have been using my GNex for about a month now and I bought it from one of the on-line retailers (paid $750BTW) and I would do it again in a heart beat. I personally have TMoUSA and the service is good in my area, everyone's mileage will vary. I had the iPhone and have not looked back after going with android

"Worth it" is completely arbitrary based on the person.
For me, it would be worth it. I hate iOS and all it stands for. I also don't being treated like a criminal for wanting root. I also think the iOS theme is butt-ugly.
I'm running pre-alphas of CM9 and they are working flawlessly. This bodes well for the future of the device.

Depends on your budget . I don't think you'll see too much of a difference in terms of performance though... and the GPU isn't that great compared to the iPhone. The Galaxy Nexus is a really good phone, IMO the best Android out there (but then I'd never again buy a non-Google phone -- these are locked worse than the iPhone).
I love the big screen (came to it from a Nexus S) and ICS is a big improvement in terms of UI.
Having said that, the iPhone 4S still offers a smoother and more consistent user experience, IMO.

You can get an unlocked 16gb Galaxy Nexus from negri electronics for about $625 shipped nowadays.
No one can tell you how "worth it" it is. Everyone has different qualifications. I'd be inclined to say that if you're going to be staying w/ AT&T and paying through the nose for service, its harder to swallow the ~$625 for an unlocked device.
It becomes more worth it when you go to a prepaid plan and cut your service cost in half every month.
So I would definitely recommend you walk into a Verizon store so you can play with it in person and make your assessment on whether or not you think Android 4 is good enough to justify your payment for the unlocked device. Obviously don't pay attention to the network speeds or anything as you'll be using on AT&T, but its a good idea to see it in person first.

I paid $650 ($689 after tax)for a non-subsidized CDMA so I think so.

well coming from the SGS II(epic 4g touch)...........I LOVE THIS PHONE!!!....i got the CDMA(32gb) version with Verizon. Android 4.0 is a HUGE step from gingerbread, you'll love it. I would recommend going with Verizon though

Ye love it too, and the experience is definitely more changed than ever from 2.x to 4.0(eg. better than ever), so by those means, yes it's worth it.
However with an iphone 4s i would probably wait another year before upgrading.

You could watch Swappa if you're interested in trying to save a few hundred and go lightly used. There isn't much on there now, but may be more in the coming months. Beware of people maybe trying to unload their phones due to signal issues (CDMA at least). I've collected very mixed data on CDMA signal issues (I can't speak for GSM). Many people report 0 problems, and some report chronic problems even after phone swaps. I've seen some fixed after a swap, and in my case I had a tech swap my SIM card which helped a lot, and then updating to 4.03 radios *hopefully* fixed the problem.
Assuming my signal issues are fixed now and don't return, this phone is by far the best I've ever owned. A major jump forward coming from a Droid Incredible. CM9 is also amazing.

Apples and oranges.. One is a fancy phone that runs apps, the other is a mini computer.
If you like customizing your phone past wallpapers and folders then it should be a clear and obvious answer

jk im not queer, but anyways i have the gnex and i love it. i hate ios and apple entirely and when i see all these kids at my school with iphones i just get heated. anyways..if you have the money to use on a gsm version by all means do so

The trouble with asking this kind of question in a galaxy nexus forum is your going to get a very biast opinion as everyone here, well mostly everyone here owns one and android users love android and apple love apple products.
Really the best advice is go and use one in a store and make up your own mind and of course watch some youtube videos about ics and gnex vs iPhone 4s. Then you be armed with the knowledge to make the right decisiin for you and your needs.

I'd suggest going to your local Verizon store and play around with their Galaxy Nexus demo for a bit. I waited and cried about this phone not being released then when it finally was and I picked up I found myself questioning why and what about the phone was I going so crazy for and at the moment I'm a little regretful for not playing with the phone first and just ordering it online.
It's a nice phone and I know I'm a picky person but there was imo more bad than good and the stuff I think is bad may not necessarily be bad but just not as good as it should or could have been for the price and usually when I upgrade, which is once every few years when Verizon grants me a discount, I like to get the best I can get to last me those few years and the Galaxy Nexus isn't the best for me.
To be specific on the things I personally didn't care for were the camera, the battery life which is common in 4G phones but was a little worse in this phone than other 4G phones I've used. The screen was a let down, the colors and grainy banding in low light levels just looked horrible and the whole 4.65" largest screen thing was misleading to me as you hardly ever use the full screen because of the softkeys and worst of all for me was no USB Mass Storage which I used allot in my previous phone but that last one was my fault for not researching the phone more thoroughly prior to purchase.
I've always been an android user so I can't say anything bad about iOS devices although I have and use an iPad 2 and iPod touch 4 I can't imagine them being any worse as a phone.

If you can wait until the Samsung Galaxy S3, it's a beast. IMO, the Galaxy Nexus is already an outdated phone, and it will be more apparent when new phones start rolling out ICS.
Of course, there's a slew of other phones coming out in the next few months, so you'll have lots of options. That's just my opinion.

Only if you promise not to make threads about multi tasking or battery life if you end up not liking it. Which I am very sure you will like it.

I've never owned an iPhone so maybe I'm not qualified to give my opinion, but I have handled various iPhones through the years. My buddy who's owned a couple summed it up best. The iPhone is a beautiful phone with an environment where everything "works." It's a device with a very closed, simple OS but amazing apps, where android is a very powerful, open (if you get something from the nexus line anyway) OS with decent apps. The apps make iPhone and the OS make Android.
If you crave freedom and are a power user, this is the phone for you. I've only owned android devices but I think apple makes a good phone. The problem lies in that if you want it do something that apple hasn't envisioned for the phone, then you are out of luck. Also, the iPhone 4 and up have great screens... but having owned 4inch screen and up phones for the last 2 years, it's pretty much impossible for me personally to go down to something under 4 inches. The thing just feels utterly tiny and limited with that little screen real estate.
As an aside, where Android has caught up with the UI on ICS, they really need to step up the game with their tablets. This is an area the iPad has every Android tablet beat, not even including the horsepower under the hood... device layout! I'm talking about the 4:3 format the iPad uses. Every powerful android tablet is in 16:9, and if you aren't watching movies it's a terrible aspect ratio. It's harder to hold and you give up a lot of usable area in portrait and in landscape. It works for computers with a dedicated keyboard and mouse, but on a huge touchscreen device, it's just awkward.
Edit: Biggest reason I will never own an iPhone is iTunes. Hate the program... huge bloatware on the computer and Apple forces you to use it if you want any sync with your computer. iCloud alleviates it somewhat, but it's just another way to trap you into the Apple ecosystem.

What phone would you get?

Title basically says it all. If you are eligible for an upgrade, what phone would you get and why?

The new samsung galaxy s3 because i think the performance of the new exynos quad core processor would be great......like the old exynos on the galaxy s2

Galaxy Nexus for me. Hackability, perfect size, Nexus!

Owning a rebound I can tell you it is a great device. But the battery life is not the best, about 9 hrs moderate use ( the extended battery helps a lot but is bulky). The American version of the galaxy S3 will not have a quad core so I would recommend the rezound or nexus. Both great devices obviously the rezound has sense which I love but if your not into then the nexus would be your best bet.

I actually agree with what you say. The next phone I'm getting is most likely a Nexus (assuming Samsung is making it of course) unless Verizon screws us over and ditches the next Nexus. Otherwise I'm going with a GSIII or the iPhone.

radios are a bit iffy (most samsung devices are)
would get bored of swapping just between aokp and miui4

rezound:
no working aosp, nor any aosp devs that (i think) can get ril worked out anytime soon

Nit you pretty much summed up my thoughts on the Inc4G. I'd like to see what official cost is and if it's not too bad I may try and score one off contract. I was finding Nexus and Rezounds going for 200-300 on ebay barely used.
I'd skip the Nexus because honestly it seems like it's been pretty lackluster compared to expectations people had for it. I also am not a fan of the whole ICS Holo theme which is why I'm so drawn to Sense4.
SGIII did absolutely nothing for me. The press conference was boring and it looks like just another run of the mill Galaxy phone. Touchwiz is also horrid and really ugly.

100% agree here.
I have an upgrade, I'll either, use my upgrade on the inc4g, and/or sell the Rez/trade for inc4g.
(this is assuming it has htc-dev unlock).

well I saw the announcement of the inc 4g..it cought my attention for sure. the OG inc was my first android phone, then I filed insurance claim nd got an inc2. Love em both. I didn't root until recently (2 months ago) and its really extended the life of the device in my eyes. So, I will probably wait to see what can be cooked up with the new inc with roms, ect.
Having worked at verizon stores and dealing with all the phones, I can honestly say that I would never own a samsung device....their phones just feel like cheap pieces of plastic.
The moto razr is a very nice looking phone, but having a sealed battery compartment kills it for me. Hopefully the new inc doesn't have that.
Also, in my experience, everthing lG makes is pretty much garbage...
So HTC and moto in a distant second for me personally.
I'm eligible now, and before I rooted I was ready to jump on the rezound...but I really like the 4" screen, and could care less about beats audio.
Since I rooted I realize that I can wait a little bit longer. I Would really like to see vzw get the one series here, but it sounds like those quad cores aren't playing nice with the LTE radio.

Is the Rez not that good? I'm sitting on an upgrade as well. But I'm in no hurry to part with my Inc2. was looking at the Rezound a little though.

The OG Incredible was my first Android too! It was the perfect intro to Android. I had the original Samsung AMOLED screen, which was much nicer than the SLCD version (imho) so it was gorgeous, and was easy to root. I flashed so many roms on that phone. I'm really surprised I didn't wear out the nand chip. I traded that phone for a Fascinate, with which I had a love-hate relationship. That's where I really learned how to use ADB. I won an LG Revolution from Phone Arena a couple months later, which was okay, but the way that phone was coded together, it was impossible to do anything with it. Plus, is was LTE, so it didn't have working AOSP. No devs ever got the phone, so its development situation was a little lacking. I traded it for my DInc2 about a month after I got it and I've had this phone since August. I've been so much happier having an HTC again. After Sammy and LG, I've been confirmed in my OEM of choice. It's not like Moto is going to sway me. Haha
I pre-ordered the Evo LTE yesterday, as I'm jumping to Sprint. I got bumped off my contract by family because they wouldn't give me the billing account password after they changed it, so I couldn't pay my bill over the phone anymore. They told me I had to drive down 45 minutes every month to pay them, which I couldn't do because I had lost my car in an accident that wasn't even my fault. It sucked. I lost my unlimited data plan.
If I were still on Verizon, I'd be jumping for joy that the Inc4G is a One S variant. The One S outperforms the S4 version of the One X a bit because it's qHD, not 720p. Plus, 4" is the perfect screen size. I don't think I'm gonna like the 4.7" screen on the Evo LTE at first. I'll get used to it, but damn that's a huge phone.

i wouldnt use an upgrade on a 6/7 month old phone running an older s3 processor...but thats me

Does the S3 processor have that much of a huge difference then a S4 processor. Does it even matter since in about 3 months a S5 processor will come out. I remember when the S3 processor came out everyone was so hyped about how amazing it was, and now look at the way people talk about it...

well thats point, i wont buy something thats already older and tie myself for 20 months to it
and the thing with sense devices is that they historically a wasteland for dev support when another huge one comes out...so id bet you ll loose most of the rezound developers come the fall if verizon launches something that much better
now thats not to say other (new) devs wont step in, like the og inc and evo 4g saw...but stll

I've been looking at the Droid Incredible and Droid 4, but they both seem lackluster. I DON'T want the Galaxy S3, I'm done with Touchwiz and rooting to get rid of it. The Nexus is a bit older now, but only $50 on a contract extension.
So, Nexus owners, do you love your phone? Would you buy it again? And is it worth it to upgrade to one now? I'm a little android-curious and I want to be assured that this phone is a winner!
Also, I'm used to wonderful battery life on my iPhone 4 (light use about 1.5 days). Can the GN compare?

Can definitely get a good day or two with light use out of the Nexus, everyone's idea of light use differs though.
I've previously owned an iPhone 4. Got to say, with Jellybean you get the same snappy OS feel minus the restrictions.
The camera isn't as good indoors, but much faster and outdoors pic quality is about the same.
If you want an Android device, then it is the one to have IMO.

The Nexus is without question the best android experience you can get currently. The only problem I had with Ice Cream Sandwich was the lag when using live wallpapers but Jellybean fixed that problem. Honestly smoothness of the Nexus with Jellybean is on par or slightly worse than the iPhone. If I was to get a phone right now I would definitely pick up the Nexus especially at 50 dollars, that said however I would personally wait a few months for the new Nexus phone/s to be announced.

I love the Galaxy Nexus. The biggest downside is the radio--it blows. It is close to seven months since release and none of the software radios have improved the signal quality significantly.
I was at a backyard BBQ this weekend and I couldn't get enough signal to access the internet with the phone. Right next to me was someone with the Bionic and another with the Thunderbolt, both on Verizon. They were both able to get enough bars (one) to access the internet. Here I am running JB and a nice custom kernel but unable to do anything meaningful with the phone in that backyard. GN fails all the time to grab signal where it should. I spent a lot of time inside of restaurants inside bars, clubs, people's houses without signal. What's the point of having the phone?
As for battery life, you have to change the mindset coming from iPhone with a sealed case. Batteries cost $4 each from China. I keep a few in my pocket when I go out. I typically do one or two battery swaps when I go out for the evening.
I'm wedded to this phone for now. I were in the market for a new phone, I would get the nicest Android phone with a replaceable battery that can be unlocked with a strong developer community. Whether the SIII or One X fits that bill, I don't know.

no native T9 dialer, using ex dialer donate and plugins to fix the issue and looks
volume of the external speakers sucks, listening youtube videos is hell. (no solutions yet)
i like stock only so custom roms are out of question

For the price its a great device. I enjoyed it a lot. I upgraded to the GS3. The GS3 has all kinds of hardware upgrades over my GN but it also cost more. The camera upgrade is big. 2GB RAM is nice too. But for the price the Galaxy Nexus has some nice things going for it.

Well as someone who had the iPhone 4s and then moved to the Galaxy Nexus I can say without a doubt that the gnex is the best phone I've ever owned. This phone is a tinkerers dream.
I easily can get a days use with juicy defender (7am-11pm 35%). I will say that the iPhone 4 has better battery than the gnex or the 4s for that matter but then you're buying outdated hardware that will get a watered down version of iOS6 when it gets released while with the gnex you get the latest unrestricted OS.

If you're only experience with Android is the Fascinate, you'll love the GNex or S3. If possible, get the GSM Nexus.

You mentioned you didn't like rooting and such on your original Fascinate...honestly if you aren't about taking advantage of the massive development available on the GN, there isn't anything to recommend it over a GS3. Touchwiz is better these days (I'd still toss it for straight google experience, though). But all indications are that samsung is taking care of it's baby now, and trying not to be the bad mother of the GS1 days.

I have a 4s and its back in its box for now... the nexus with jelly bean feels like a brand new phone no joke. I loooove it!

Man, I recently ditched my atrix 4G about a month ago for the gnexus and I'm so glad I did. I had bought my gf the 4s for her birthday, and I'm not gonna lie- after playing around with her phone then going back to my buggy/laggy atrix, I started considering switching to the iPhone for stability. Most android phones at the time were the 'new phone of the month' crap, and although I love the functionality of android, I ultimately wanted a stable phone that would be updated to the newest OS whenever there was a release.
Before throwing in the towel, I gave the galaxy nexus a shot. This thing rocks. No lag, great dev community, first to be upgraded when there is a new os upgrade, great camera and screen size/resolution.. etc etc. This phone will not let you down, trust me man. Coming from a guy who also would turn down the Galaxy s3 for the same reason, I advise you to go android. Go android, and go whatever Google's flagship phone is. If possible, I'd hold out until Google releases their new Nexus device(s?) so you can have the latest and greatest.

I agree the GNex is the best android phone, and it is best for customization, especially when coming from iPhones.
However you also mentioned you want something that just works. Unfortunately nothing beats the iphone in this category. GNex is a high maintenance phone. From day to day task (getting find my phone to work, typing in different languages), to managing an os update. I am still struggling with issues after jellybean upgrade.
Also, Google now sucks compare to siri. It doesn't extract info from contact, ie. does not know who I am or who is my wife, her phone number. Finally I really missed imessage. Most of my friends are on ios, almost no one use Google+.
In my opinion, stay with your iPhone if you want it to just work. But get a GNex if you are bored of ios and want to tinker your phone.

Definitely get the nexus. I got mine three days ago and love it. I also bought the wife an iPhone Friday. Side by side the nexus wins hands down...without even turning them on lmao.

The nexus is a great phone, 4.1 is very very smooth, however I'm going to go against the grain here, because of your comment "It just needs to work". The nexus is on the bleeding edge of android and sometimes problems DO crop up and can take a while to fix and in rare cases be pretty crippling (Nexus S search bug on the i9020a for example). If you can live with little quirks or willing to get your hands dirty and try to fix them yourself, then by all means get this phone, if you want something 100% trouble free, you might be better to stay with the iPhone.
The nexus however does provide you with a bloat free experience, and if you like to tinker, then it's the best choice available. I'm never sure if the verizon variant is properly supported in AOSP, if you have the option, get a GSM version (yes this means going with someone other the version) and get the phone from the play store to make sure you don't have a samsung regional variant (yakju/takju)

I spent quite a while playing with my friends iPhones and when I walked into Verizon I was pretty much set on getting one because they do just work. They dont bug up, they dont lag, they just do as you ask. But I also realized how no matter whos phone I was using I felt like I was using just anyones phone. They all kind of felt the same even though people had different wallpapers and what not. I just did not get the feeling everyone had their own unique device and I like having the ability to stand out. When I went into Verizon, they never even brought the I phone out. They put the Droid 4 (which I also asked for) the GNX and the LG Enligten. As soon as they took the Nexus out of the box I was impressed. It was the right size, the screen was fantastic (I thought I wouldnt mind the screen size difference from iPhone to Nexus but I do and I cant stand to use the small iPhone screen now) I got double my data, double the memory, faster cpu. Everyone in the store said they wished it was out when they were considering their next phone so I jumped on it. At first I was a bit annoyed with ICS and its laggyness. Do yourself a huge favor, get JB and load a good kernel and from an interface perspective it dusts the iPhone for me. The only thing I wish worked better is the reception. And that is a huge core feature. I just cant tell if its a radio software issue or a antenna issue. It seems some people have fixed their phones with flashing new radios but it may just be a patch on an underlying problem. Even with that I still have no regets passing on the iPhone.

I can find plenty for cheap. I've been deployed and have a 4s and 4g came to our area so just curious if the nexus still stacks up good to new phones?
Also I should mention I had a galaxy nexus before the 4s so I know what it's capable of.

Yes, and if you can get it around 250 dollars, it will be a steal. It will last you at least 2 more major android releases and still be generations ahead of the apple phones.

I got mine off of ebay in November after having an iPhone for 2 years. I was worried at first because I was stuck on 4.1.1 (I have the verizon version), which ran very smooth, but i bought a nexus to get the latest updates. After rooting and upgrading to MMuzzy ROM with Tiny kernal, I have yet to see a smoother phone. I was really only going to use this phone for about 6 months before I upgraded to something else, but I decided that this phone is more then enough for me. I love the stock android and the power is enough.
The only thing I hate is how bad the battery life is though.

I've found quite a few used for under 250$ lol one in excellent condition for 75$. Before I deployed my area didn't have 4g but now it does I'm not due for a upgrade till later this year so figured I go back to the nexus and get 4g for cheap. Battery life doesn't concern me just bring a charger every where I go.

Although it might not be the best comparison, I messed with all the hottest brand new phones at Verizon a few months ago and they are no where near as smooth as my galaxy nexus. The reason it might not be fair is I've been running roms and kernels since I got it. Stock for stock... I dunno. I wasn't all that impressed with the gs3, least not like I thought I would.

Well I'm asking because it was a year ago that I had the phone and wanted to know how it stacked up against the newer phones. I'm not currently in the states so figure it was a question worth asking until I got back.

We all know it is pure Android. But S3 is a way better. At least the hardware.

I will say its a pretty solid phone even in 2013, it might start to feel a bit dated by Q3 but as of right now I think its fine. I bought 2 GNex for my mom and sister during Christmas. Sadly over paid for one @ $200 and the screen had scratches on it (night deal didn't see the scratches). The second one I bought was much cheaper @ $170 and came with a case and dock with an extra battery, but badly damaged housing. Only reason i bought that one was because the screen was perfect and replaced the housing for $15 bucks. Still cheaper then the first one I bought and now looks mint.
Dad got the hTC One S and although I love the build and design of the phone and the hardware is better. I still think i may trade that for a GNex or at least put CM/AOKP on it, coz hTC won't support it past 4.2 if it even gets 4.2 and as it currently stands its much slower then the GNex thanks to bloated Sense.
For my family members they use it as a phone more then anything else and maybe some browsing so I think it will last them another 3 years or so. Don't think Google will support it past Android 5 though.
These were major upgrades for them, coming from 1GHz, 512MB RAM and ****ty camera. The camera not the best but decent so can't really complain.
PS I love the AOSP look which is why i run AOKP on my S3 but Sense over touchwiz and hTC build quality over Samsung any day. hTC just gets cheap on the hardware mainly camera/screen and RAM.

Gnex is a good option because it will always have the latest updates and more roms than other phones but if you don't have a tight budget then go for htc one x+ or note 2 (if you don't mind the size), Nexus 4 would be a good choice but it's rare. I would not recommend s3 as s4 is going to come out soon or you can get an s3 after the launch of s4 as it'll be much cheaper by then.

I'm a Samsung fan boy, I've liked Samsung as long as I can remember and it was a shame I was never able to get a Samsung phone, I wanted the sgs1 but got the Evo instead, wanted to upgrade to the sgs2 but samsung wouldn't announce when it would come out and ended up getting a Motorola phone, and when the sgs3 came out I was broke... now come the SGS4 around, I bought it on launch day and it came to me the 30th I was really really happy... I'm going to get every reiteration of the phone as long as my pockets allow it...

I've been using iphones since it first released. Iphone2g, iphone 3g, iphone 3gs, iphone 4 then iphone 4s.
Over the years, I've grown tired of apple locking their firmwares to limit user customization; and the only way around was to jailbreak- a major pain in the behind. So the first reason is ease of personal customization.
Second, the screen size and ppi.
Third, the option to expand memory and switch battery.
And lastly, the popularity of S3.

a few reasons actually :
1) expandable storage
2) removable battery
3) community/developer support
a) why I picked Snapdragon > Exynos
4) Generally positive experience from past Samsung purchases. I've owned a few HTC devices and felt really burned in the past by how poorly they support their products in the long-term, haven't heard many good things about LG (other than the Nexus 4). Although I like Apple's stuff, and own an iPod I like Android's openness and flexibility to switch between Stock and AOSP

This was my very first smartphone purchase, so I had to weigh all the factors. In the end, I went with the S4 because....
-It has removable/expandable memory. I plan on using my phone for a LOT of media consumption, and depending on the cloud to store all my stuff won't do it for me since I'm going to use T-Mobile on a 5GB/month data plan. Spotty coverage and limited data means cutting down on cloud usage.
-Removable battery. I figure carrying a spare battery ensures I can go a whole day of heavily using all these awesome phone features and apps without worrying about getting tied back down to a wall outlet.

-I prefer AMOLED/OLED to LCD on my TV's. All the issues not withstanding, I love the contrast ratios, the rich colors, and the saturation. It makes watching movies a blast. So I'll naturally prefer the same on the phone.
-From all the video reviews and articles I read, I think I'll end up preferring TouchWiz to sense. Once I use the fixes people have posted here and elsewhere to clear up the lag, the phone should be snappy. It will probably feel really snappy to me anyway since I've never owned a smartphone before.
Overall, as someone who is just entering the big boy league of the mobile phone market, it seems I couldn't have arrived at a better time. The S4 seems like the device for me to start with. If it turns out to be all that and more, I could see myself getting an S5 or whatever is the big kahuna next year.

And I actually just got my S4 today and I'm completely blown away. I've been busy downloading apps on my home wi-fi and playing with the device most of the day. I feel like a caveman who just discovered my first computer.

I've had HTC phones up until now and I've been pretty happy with them.
I've had to replace the battery in my EVO 3D, as well as my wife's Mytouch 4G. So, for me, a removable battery is a really important feature. Also, I wanted to have expandable storage and put large apps and pics on the SD card, so the S4 won easily over the HTC One.
The aluminum body of the One does nothing for me...I put a case on every phone I own anyway. But the One's speakers seem nice.
For my next smartphone, I think I'll still look for the same things.

I switch to the s4 because T Mobile gave it to me absolutely free no $20 a month fee completely free. I had to complain to retention quite a bit because I was having issues with my galaxy s2 and they caved in and said I'll go ahead and give you one for having so many issues with your phone and I don't want to lose your business.

got mine s4 just because i wanted to get a new phone, and i wanted to switch to unlimited data plan.. i was thinking first of getting xperia Z (about $525 cash) but there was some complaints about earpiece volume from users, so i decided to get a contract tmobile with S4
Basically the loudness of earpiece of Xperia Z made me choose the S4.. (i had an Xperia ION and earpiece on this phone was horrible, i could not hear anyone in loud places... )

Basically I got sick of HTC and sense.
