Hey there. I currently use the iPhone 4 on Verizon. I tried android before and had a Samsung Fascinate for about 10 months before switching to iPhone. The main reasons I switched were speed, efficiency, and a streamlined appearance. I needed a phone that just worked. The fascinate was beautiful, but it was laggy, stuck on 2.1 for FAR too long, and riddled with bloatware (BING, UGH!). I've been looking at the Droid Incredible and Droid 4, but they both seem lackluster. I DON'T want the Galaxy S3, I'm done with Touchwiz and rooting to get rid of it. The Nexus is a bit older now, but only $50 on a contract extension.
So, Nexus owners, do you love your phone? Would you buy it again? And is it worth it to upgrade to one now? I'm a little android-curious and I want to be assured that this phone is a winner!
Also, I'm used to wonderful battery life on my iPhone 4 (light use about 1.5 days). Can the GN compare?

Can definitely get a good day or two with light use out of the Nexus, everyone's idea of light use differs though.
I've previously owned an iPhone 4. Got to say, with Jellybean you get the same snappy OS feel minus the restrictions.
The camera isn't as good indoors, but much faster and outdoors pic quality is about the same.
If you want an Android device, then it is the one to have IMO.

The Nexus is without question the best android experience you can get currently. The only problem I had with Ice Cream Sandwich was the lag when using live wallpapers but Jellybean fixed that problem. Honestly smoothness of the Nexus with Jellybean is on par or slightly worse than the iPhone. If I was to get a phone right now I would definitely pick up the Nexus especially at 50 dollars, that said however I would personally wait a few months for the new Nexus phone/s to be announced.

I get a days worth out of the phone with maybe a short charge in the middle of the day. /rant begins: Plus why would anyone want over a days worth of charging?!?!?! I love the Galaxy Nexus. The biggest downside is the radio--it blows. It is close to seven months since release and none of the software radios have improved the signal quality significantly.
I was at a backyard BBQ this weekend and I couldn't get enough signal to access the internet with the phone. Right next to me was someone with the Bionic and another with the Thunderbolt, both on Verizon. They were both able to get enough bars (one) to access the internet. Here I am running JB and a nice custom kernel but unable to do anything meaningful with the phone in that backyard. GN fails all the time to grab signal where it should. I spent a lot of time inside of restaurants inside bars, clubs, people's houses without signal. What's the point of having the phone?
As for battery life, you have to change the mindset coming from iPhone with a sealed case. Batteries cost $4 each from China. I keep a few in my pocket when I go out. I typically do one or two battery swaps when I go out for the evening.
I'm wedded to this phone for now. I were in the market for a new phone, I would get the nicest Android phone with a replaceable battery that can be unlocked with a strong developer community. Whether the SIII or One X fits that bill, I don't know.

no native T9 dialer, using ex dialer donate and plugins to fix the issue and looks
volume of the external speakers sucks, listening youtube videos is hell. (no solutions yet)

For the price its a great device. I enjoyed it a lot. I upgraded to the GS3. The GS3 has all kinds of hardware upgrades over my GN but it also cost more. The camera upgrade is big. 2GB RAM is nice too. But for the price the Galaxy Nexus has some nice things going for it.

Well as someone who had the iPhone 4s and then moved to the Galaxy Nexus I can say without a doubt that the gnex is the best phone I've ever owned. This phone is a tinkerers dream.
I easily can get a days use with juicy defender (7am-11pm 35%). I will say that the iPhone 4 has better battery than the gnex or the 4s for that matter but then you're buying outdated hardware that will get a watered down version of iOS6 when it gets released while with the gnex you get the latest unrestricted OS.
If you're only experience with Android is the Fascinate, you'll love the GNex or S3. If possible, get the GSM Nexus.
You mentioned you didn't like rooting and such on your original Fascinate...honestly if you aren't about taking advantage of the massive development available on the GN, there isn't anything to recommend it over a GS3. Touchwiz is better these days (I'd still toss it for straight google experience, though). But all indications are that samsung is taking care of it's baby now, and trying not to be the bad mother of the GS1 days.
I have a 4s and its back in its box for now... the nexus with jelly bean feels like a brand new phone no joke. I loooove it!

Man, I recently ditched my atrix 4G about a month ago for the gnexus and I'm so glad I did. I had bought my gf the 4s for her birthday, and I'm not gonna lie- after playing around with her phone then going back to my buggy/laggy atrix, I started considering switching to the iPhone for stability. Most android phones at the time were the 'new phone of the month' crap, and although I love the functionality of android, I ultimately wanted a stable phone that would be updated to the newest OS whenever there was a release.
Before throwing in the towel, I gave the galaxy nexus a shot. This thing rocks. No lag, great dev community, first to be upgraded when there is a new os upgrade, great camera and screen size/resolution.. etc etc. This phone will not let you down, trust me man. Coming from a guy who also would turn down the Galaxy s3 for the same reason, I advise you to go android. Go android, and go whatever Google's flagship phone is. If possible, I'd hold out until Google releases their new Nexus device(s?) so you can have the latest and greatest.

I agree the GNex is the best android phone, and it is best for customization, especially when coming from iPhones.
However you also mentioned you want something that just works. Unfortunately nothing beats the iphone in this category. GNex is a high maintenance phone. From day to day task (getting find my phone to work, typing in different languages), to managing an os update. I am still struggling with issues after jellybean upgrade.
Also, Google now sucks compare to siri. It doesn't extract info from contact, ie. does not know who I am or who is my wife, her phone number. Finally I really missed imessage. Most of my friends are on ios, almost no one use Google+.
In my opinion, stay with your iPhone if you want it to just work. But get a GNex if you are bored of ios and want to tinker your phone.

The nexus is a great phone, 4.1 is very very smooth, however I'm going to go against the grain here, because of your comment "It just needs to work". The nexus is on the bleeding edge of android and sometimes problems DO crop up and can take a while to fix and in rare cases be pretty crippling (Nexus S search bug on the i9020a for example). If you can live with little quirks or willing to get your hands dirty and try to fix them yourself, then by all means get this phone, if you want something 100% trouble free, you might be better to stay with the iPhone.
The nexus however does provide you with a bloat free experience, and if you like to tinker, then it's the best choice available. I'm never sure if the verizon variant is properly supported in AOSP, if you have the option, get a GSM version (yes this means going with someone other the version) and get the phone from the play store to make sure you don't have a samsung regional variant (yakju/takju)

I spent quite a while playing with my friends iPhones and when I walked into Verizon I was pretty much set on getting one because they do just work. They dont bug up, they dont lag, they just do as you ask. But I also realized how no matter whos phone I was using I felt like I was using just anyones phone. They all kind of felt the same even though people had different wallpapers and what not. I just did not get the feeling everyone had their own unique device and I like having the ability to stand out. When I went into Verizon, they never even brought the I phone out. They put the Droid 4 (which I also asked for) the GNX and the LG Enligten. As soon as they took the Nexus out of the box I was impressed. It was the right size, the screen was fantastic (I thought I wouldnt mind the screen size difference from iPhone to Nexus but I do and I cant stand to use the small iPhone screen now) I got double my data, double the memory, faster cpu. Everyone in the store said they wished it was out when they were considering their next phone so I jumped on it. At first I was a bit annoyed with ICS and its laggyness. Do yourself a huge favor, get JB and load a good kernel and from an interface perspective it dusts the iPhone for me. The only thing I wish worked better is the reception. And that is a huge core feature. I just cant tell if its a radio software issue or a antenna issue. It seems some people have fixed their phones with flashing new radios but it may just be a patch on an underlying problem. Even with that I still have no regets passing on the iPhone.

I really don't know why you think you'd be downgrading. This is an awesome android phone and ICS is slick as hell. I'm also very happy I'm on Verizon now as Sprint's 3G speeds in my area are horrendous.
1.2 dual core TI processor,hd screen that's absolutely gorgeous,ics to top it off. The phone is nothing but smooth. LOVE it. Probably saved me from completely ditching android.
I'm completely done with HTC and sense. It's a resource hog.

Just picked mine up and its amazing. The screen is absolutly beautiful. I came from the droid charge and that had a nice screen too, but nothing like this
I just played with it in the store for like 20 minutes. It's really fast and slick. I want this phone. My renew date is the 12/28 and they won't let me upgrade now but the rep at the store said maybe if I call verizon custom service they might let me???
I'm going to try the store I usually buy stuff at and see if it makes a difference.

I am in the UK and had the choice of the Nexus or the Note. After trying both, I went for the Note. Faster processor, better camera, larger screen, FM radio, bigger battery, better GPS, MicroSD card slot plus the stylus. Can live without ICS for a while till the bugs are sorted and tweaks made. It's a shame you don't have the choice in some parts of the world.

I just exchanged my Rezound for the Galaxy Nexus. No regrets whatsoever. The Rezound IS a very good phone, but the Nexus is just on another level. It's no downgrade over the Rezound!

This is just my simple opinion on what I have experienced.
I'm going to compare it to the RAZR which is the phone I used for 3 days waiting on the Nexus:
- The RAZR has better radio (signal strength). with the RAZR I always had 4g at work, now I get 4g from time to time.
- I have noticed some really minor lags, I saw no lag with the RAZR at all.
- I found browser experience of the RAZR superior.
- RAZR has a laughter speaker but the call quality (on the other end) sucked, Nexus is better.
-Some minor FC here and there but that will go away soon.
Even with all this, I will never change it for the RAZR or any other phone I have seen. It is nice and a little of getting used to ICS.
definitely NOT a downgrade, you won't regret it.

Picked mine up at Radioshack this morning at open. There was a lot of frustration with their system, then with Verizon's system, then they had to manually enter my information over the phone and the whole process took about an hour just to sell the phone.
Then I opened it up and activated it. Worth every frustrating second. This phone is amazing.
Totally happy with mine. For an android fan stuck on Big Red, it is definitely the best option. ICS is rockin'! :thumbup:

Upgraded from a Droid Charge as well. That was never a phone I absolutely loved, but I was trying to get on unlimited 4G before it went tiered. Really my only complaint at this point is the speaker is definitely quieter. The sound from the headset also is lower.
But better screen? Check. Speedy dual core (compared to Charge)? Check. No camera lag? Check. Huge modding community? Sure to come. ICS? Awesome.
I don't see myself regretting the decision to buy this phone.

So i'm getting fed up with sprint atm since i use my phone alot and while originally my service was great the 3g speed now are unbearable due to how often i need to access files from my servers and just general usage, I'm contemplating on waiting to get an iphone 5 or Grab the Galaxy s3 right now. I've used an iphone 2g before i upgrade to the HTC evo 4g and i say i like both operating system. But i do like how integrated everything is in iOS. =( oh decisions decision.

The iphone 5 is already out. It's called the 4s. Orig Iphone, Iphone 3g, 3gs, 4, 4S = 5. I wouldn't get the 4S I would def go with the GSIII. I am getting a new iphone when they come out to sell on Ebay to the people who are willing to pay way too much for overnight shipping, but I'll be keeping my GSIII for me to use.

Hahahahaha! Okay, now that that is out of the way, GS3 for sure. I too used to use iPhones.. 3/4. Then my buddy showed me a GS2 rooted w/ custom rom. Sold. Got the GS3 the day it was released and gave my iPhone 4 to my girlfriend. Obviously, I hate her. I digress though, I love my GS3 and I do not regret the switch. Running custom ICS AOKP rom and I love it!
That is a no brainer imo. I used to have an iPhone and they don't even come close to the SGSIII. If you like to customize your phone you have to go with the SIII or another Android phone but the SIII is the best on the market I think.

I went through a similar thought process recently, coming from 4+ years with an iPhone (3G & 4). Made the switch because a) I was bored (not necessarily rational, but always fun to try something new, plus girlfriend needed a new phone), and b) I wanted a bigger screen. I can tell you now that the iPhone 4 feels far too small in my hands and I couldn't go back. Keep in mind that there is a 0% chance the iPhone 5 will have anything larger than a 4" screen, so that may make your decision easier if that is something that is important to you.
I do not regret my decision. At first I found Android side of things to be less "polished", but the customization couldn't be beat. But frankly, now that I've discovered CM10, I feel that I finally gave the phone I've always wanted. While some of the TouchWiz features were neat, I feel that Samsung's theming, etc. really cluttered and complicated things, and that vanilla Android is much more on par with the iPhone in terms of polish and ease of use. I really question some of their design decisions.

I had that exact same question... i decided on the sgs3 with att because I expected cyanogen to be developed for it, and I knew it could be rooted easily. Plus it is a really badass chunk of hardware...

I moved from sprint to at&t like 2 weeks ago. Costs the same. Better data speed , coverage, phones and customer care. Only regret is not switching along time ago. AT&T for the win!
I had a 4s and a gs2 on sprint. Now I have a hox and a gs3. Never going back to an iPhone. Restrictive OS. Boring and dull UI. ITunes. No Widgets! No I'm good on all that.only good thing iPhone had going for it was great camera and battery life. IMO maybe android wasn't better in like GB form (even though I think it was), ICS and JB are wwwwaaaayyy better than OSX.

as a phone Samsung was always better than iPhone. Battery is replaceable and memory is expandable. AMOLED screen.
iPhone 5 is a big unknown. Remember antenna issues? Or yellow tint screens? Or sudden cracks on the case? Wanna be Apple beta tester?
iPhone 4S got great battery life, smooth OS and tons of apps going for it.
I say wait for the "iPhone 5" if you can and then see what the Samsung response to that phone is =)

If you want to play with your phone, and have as much control over how it behaves as possible then get an android phone hands down.
The reason I chose the S III was because I enjoyed my S I, and because I know there is a huge community around this phone that is working around the clock customizing third party ROMS. If you want to hack your phone, the S III community is the best.

I decided no more iPhones until they actually make a killer device. This hasn't been done since the iPhone 4. The iPhones are slower and do less. I say gs3 all the way until apple throws in 2gb of ram and a killer processor and graphics chip. I dislike lag and that's what the iPhone will ultimately get you (even the new one).

As has been stated, this might not be the most neutral place to ask this question... still, here's my story:
I work in an office where *everyone* has an iPhone except me, with my faithful GS3. Previously I had an HTC Desire, which is a nice enough phone but doesn't compare all that well with the iPhone 4S... ever since I got my GS3, people are actually jealous of my phone (people that know nothing about cell phones) and are asking the IT guy why they can't have an awesome phone like me... lol
So long story short, the GS3 is superior to the iPhone 4S in pretty much every respect. Unless you want to wait to see what Apple cooks up for the next generation (and you can bet at this point in the game Samsung/HTC will stay ahead of them, they are already ahead), get yourself a GS3 - hands down the best smartphone on the market right now.
Gargamel has a point.. Wrong place to ask since this is a S3 spot. Though my input is basically the same. I had iphone lovers but once they saw my customization and showing them what the phone can really do they got on android. I also went through all iphones and also currently have an iphone 4 along side my S3. Let me say LTE on AT&T is great.... Iphone got 4.xx MB/S while my S3 got 60 MB/S. I use my S3 more than the iphone lets say that lol. I run into so many iphones with problems it isn't even funny. I do repairs on them on the side for fun.
My wife got her first smartphone about 8 months ago. got the samsung stratosphere. had it for about 2 months until I got the samsung galaxy S3 at which point she wanted my rooted thunderbolt. The thunderbolt has gotten very laggy no matter which Rom I throw on there. CleanRom worked well for about a week and then it started its usual lack of performance. When I first got it, it was snappy, quick and smooth. Now it just isn't and i dont know why since I'm doing a clean factory wipe with CWM. She is getting tired of me tinkering around with it trying to get it to perform well. Wants a new phone and is thinking the incredible 4g, razr M or the samsung galaxy nexus.
wanted to see what people thought, who have the galaxy nexus. Would you recommend it again or would you rather go with a newer phone like the Dinc 4g or razr m?
No regrets here. You can never go wrong with Pure Google, and with third-party ROMs you always have the latest Android version before, well especially before the Dinc 4G or RAZR M.
I wouldn't say there's much difference between 5MP and 8MP, and the only reason I'd go for either of the other two phones is for SD storage, which even now I'm losing interest in, but it's nice to have that stuff somewhere separate from the phone.
Plus, I am pretty sure the GalNex is the cheapest, on or off contract..
As far as famous issues go, no inductive charging (come on even the Thunderbolt had that), Micro USB port tends to fail, but that's kind of an all-phone sort of thing IMO, and of course AMOLED screen burn-in. All are nominal issues considering they happen typically after at least a year of use.

I had the g2 then the g2x and now the gnex. I personally think this is still one of the best phone around, hands down. Direct Google updates, unlocked (can use any gsm carrier prepaid or postpaid), great screen and decent pics. The developer support will be continuous until the hardware can no longer support the os. Money wise, its the cheapest high end smart phone you can get, period (and I don't think this phone is "cheap", its hardware is great and handles everything I throw at it).

For something that "just works" with minimal effort the iDerp is the way to go.
Android can be laggy when "external" SD Card memory size is full, e.g. if 16GB SD Card have only 1GB free memory. makes Android slower..
by doing full Wipe, data factory reset then it should be much faster..
Galaxy Nexus's battery life is not so good so it's better to use older Android phone if wants phone with good battery life...
I'll put it like this. i have had several phones of all brands and companies i just had the nexus 4 sold it. i have the s3.it sits on my desk. The note 2 is hooked to a TV in the guest room for streaming. all the phones I have and have i come back to the nexus. i chose to make it my main driver. i don't even swap sims anymore. Galaxy nexus just works. and we have great devs that make things work even better. and help out. do that on a iPhone. also as
Sd storage is a thing of the past. cloud storage is here.. and it's fast. Anyway nexus gsm with a year straight talk plan works fine for me.. well great actually.. even with Verizon i wouldn't get any other phone. especially since i seen in my area Verizon offering then free or 50 bucks on contract.. roll with it.

The op asked, i gave my answer. Ya give her an iphone and then nobody here will be tempted to screw with it and mess it up. All her friends will say "Oh it's an iphone, how nice!". Otherwise let her shop for an android phone and pick out what she wants, all the top phones are pretty solid. Obviously the s3 is the hot phone now, but for some it's a little large.
She has the Thunderbolt? Good god, man. You're just asking for all kinds of trouble there. You don't give a woman a Thunderbolt. Even men can't stand that phone.
For a woman, you need a trouble-free phone like the:
-Galaxy S3
-Galaxy Note 2 (women actually like it a lot and have more reason to use it because they carry a purse or bag)
-iPhone 5
-Nokia Lumia 920
Seriously. These are the only phones women actually enjoy using. The Nexus is great but its more for geeks than ladies.
Get her a white Gnex, turn it into a takju with a clean flash of the 4.2.1 factory image and you're good to go. Hassle free stock software from then on...

She's going to complain about the battery life. He should NOT get the Nexus for a woman. I'm being serious here. The other phones I suggested are much better for a woman. You guys keep assuming that women will like what you like. They don't. They're very different. You don't give a woman a phone with any big flaws, and the big flaw with the Galaxy Nexus is battery life.
I say get her the Galaxy Note2 my wife saw it the other day and was like damn I should've waited and got that instead of the iPhone(she got her iPhone a week before note 2 came out)

Yep. Women love the Galaxy Note 2 more than men do, seemingly. It's like the size of a paperback book or personal organizer that women carry around in their purse. If they can do everything on a device like that, they're happy, and the battery life on it is amazing.
Hell, I'm probably going to get the Galaxy Note 3 next year if Google screws up again and makes yet another glass-backed Nexus phone.

The other thing I needed to mention is that she does NOT want to spend much. I would love her to have the S3 like I do but she wont spend the money to get it. This is why she was looking into the incredible 4g or moto razr m. both are $49 currently.
If money eliminates the note2, go with the nexus. I got it cheap and got the Samsung extended battery. I have no problem getting almost a full day with moderate usage. If I am at work, it goes in airplane mode between breaks. After work I still have almost a full charge. And the phone charges FAST! I have no complaints. With 2 GS2's and a GS3 in the family, my gnex still has the best performance and least issues of all.

On the subject of battery life I'm going to add that my stock battery gsm gnex gets better battery life than any android phone I've previously owned or handled.
But based on the reports of battery life with lte I would possibly agree with cadude the Verizon nexus might not be the best choice. I don't know though, maybe it's no different than any other lte equipped phone. I've always used gsm.

I bought GNex for my girlfriend and she loves it. Stock Android is rock stable and super fast. She won't change it for any other phone. Until I get her Nexus 4, maybe?
If you hated the battery life on the Bolt you will hate the VZW Galaxy Nexus more. I went from one to the other last year and u was surprised, I though the bolt had the worst battery of them all.
Otherwise here's my .02 -
If you want to extend/new contract - you cannot go wrong with an S3. Great battery life, expandable memory and Touchwiz 's no tinkering to get great features aspect are great selling points to people who don't want to tinker with the phone.. My wife is a perfect example Lol. Not to mention the camera is 2nd to none on android devices now.
If you don't want a contract I would get a used VZW Nexus. Deal with the battery for a great price.
If your wife wants a smaller device - get the RAZR M. Its quite an amazing little device. All the power/specs of the S3 in a handy little package. I've heard it has great battery too

Ok so you're on Verizon. Trust me, a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon is TERRIBLE. You simply do NOT want that phone. She will definitely complain about the battery because the LTE drains even more on a Verizon Gnex than a GSM Gnex.
Good news for you though! You can upgrade on your Verizon account with Amazon Wireless, and they'll give you another Samsung Galaxy S3 for $99.99 which isn't much more than 50 bucks and the same price as the Verizon Gnex from the Verizon store.

When I went to leave early from to Verizon from sprint in early december (long story not my choice) I was coming from a nexus s. So in my mind it was like no brainer, Galaxy nexus. Went into Best Buy mobile told them I wanted a Galaxy Nexus, they gave me ****. "It's not reliable, we always have returns, it's overrated, not worth the money, we'd have to backorder it, look at something else." These are people I know on a first name basis who I'm comfortable with so they wouldn't shaft me. I told them I wanted it because custom software and freedom excites me. Long story short I ended up with a RAZR M. Great phone I love it amazing build and formfactor. But it's like dating a girl who's slightly younger the more I'm with it the more little flaws I see. Virtually no dev support, no google wallet even sideloading, small internal memory ( 8 gigs). So it always leaves me wondering; I know the verizon GNEX is botched, but is it bad enough to pass on and look elsewhere? Share your opinion.
I love my nexus I've never had issues with it since i bought it last February. Just recently i had issues with the screen. Took it to best buy mobile they ordered me a new one and i got a good phone again. No issues at all. I don't know what people keep saying its a bad phone cuz its not.

Agreed, it is a good phone and I too don't understand what everyone keeps whining about. If people really hate the phone that much then just shutup and get something else. But personally the only thing I've noticed is that it doesn't get as good of a signal as my friends do who have Motorola phones. Other than that I really have no complaints.
I love mine too. Last August had to get a new a few days later due a signal issue, but after that its the best android I've had. What bugs me is the lack of info from Verizon and Samsung about software. Both are quit like clams

Overall my experience with my GNex has been pleasant. I replaced the earpiece speaker.... But everything else has been OK.
Now, Verizon is always gonna be a Verizon. They are gonna do the same stuff no matter what phone you have ( slow updates, tiered plans, no customer loyalty, uninhibited greed....the usual stuff)
But this is a solid phone. The dev community is strong. No complaints here!

Like everyone says, it's an awesome phone. You'll fall in love customizing it. Only thing about the CDMA version is that the battery life is terrible. 1-1.5 screen time and roughly 10-12 hours of life. I'm a moderate user.
Idk i have never had a problem with my nexus and its one of the better phones i owned.

I love the phone too. I got rid of my ****ty DROID Charge due to lack of dev support and the outdated internals. But overall, it's been a good phone to own. Antennas suck, being a Samsung. Battery life for LTE isn't very good. And camera isn't that great. But it's got plenty of Roms to keep interesting.

I've had the galaxy nexus for about 3 months now. My previous phones were the HTC G1, the thunderbolt and the rezound. As far as the android experience goes this is the best phone I've had. As far as a "phone" goes this is the worst phone I had. Sometimes I lose signal but the phones shows full bars and reports a good signal. I can't make or receive calls or get internet. I thought the solution was to have it on 3g only but even though its more reliable as a phone it still loses signal without any warning. And that is a bit dangerous. From researching I am not the only one, and some people say they have to go thru 6 to get 1 good one. I bought mine on eBay so that's not an option for me. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it or get a different phone.
BTW I have flashed multiple combination of radios, kernels, and ROMs. No dice.

I've been very happy with my VZW Gnex. In fact, I have now owned it longer than any other phone before, and that includes my OG droid.
I am unhappy with Verizon themselves tho, and will be leaving when my contract expires in a few weeks.
I made the move from Sprint to VZW in August 2012, and this is the first and only phone I've had since being on the network. Additionally, this is the first phone I've had since the old WinMo days that I haven't had an incessant itch to switch to something new. I even got my flashing addiction down to 1x/month on average!
Good phone, good network, good experience thus far.
I get lots of reception issues with this phone. It isn't about bars or anything. It often disappoints even running Speedtest,net app. My XOOM has LTE also but gets significantly faster download and upload speeds. The 4.1.2 update makes it smoother, but it's performance as a phone is pretty weak. My Droid 1 is the best experience I've had with a smartphone. The Droid 2 was OK but had too much crap on it. This is a significant interface and capability improvement over those phones but it's performance is so lackluster, I might have been better off with another LTE model.
The clean stock experience is nice but I'd rather have it perform better as a phone. My husband's Galaxy Nexus acts the same way. It's not a bad phone if you can get it cheap.

Just chiming in here.... I'm kinda new to the GNexus on Verizon... As you see my daily driver is still the razr maxx... And I'm comparing the two... Motorola bugs me so much. If it wasn't for the 24hr battery life is would easily jump ship. I just rooted the nexus, put Google wallet on it and can't wait to go to McDonalds to buy a cup of coffee lol.. But I had the incD before and loved roming.. I still do but I hate locked boot loader and low dev. Community.

Its not a bad phone at all. Most people's biggest gripe is that its not a "true nexus device" because updates have to go through Verizon first and don't come directly from Google.
I've had the toro / VzW Galaxy Nexus since it was first released by Verizon -- must be about 13 or 14 months now. A bit flakey on initial release, but updates came quickly, and since I unlocked and rooted I've tried several ROMs. Overall - it's been the best phone I've used since buying my first cell phone about 21 years ago. Sure, there are a few points I'd like to see improved, but that doesn't stop this being a spectacular device overall. Since using ROMs like XenonHD, Codename Android and Nexus Evolution, the phone has been generally spectacular, with my only annoyance being battery life. For the past year I sported a 2000 mah OEM "extended" battery, but as GNex owners know, these don't go that far. I finally opted for a 3800 mah battery from Hyperion a couple of days ago, along with a couple of matching cases that I can switch between -- a one piece TPU case, and a Seidio convert combo. With a full charge, battery life is excellent now -- I've been on battery for about 10 hours today with 2 hours screen time so far, and still have 70% left -- and this should improve after I've fully cycled the battery a few times. At this point - the phone is immaculate, looks like new, works beautifully and is just about 100% customizable with a big selection of ROMs, mods and themes. All in all, this is a fantastic phone.
The phone itself is great as long as you get one without any of the hardware flaws. The battery life is sub-par, especially compared to the GSM version, but if you can keep a charger nearby it lasts well enough you don't really have too much to worry about.
Verizon is really the only problem I have with it. They really treat their customers like trash. Their prices are astronomical and they want to figure out how to charge more. Flagrant anti-consumerism with the blocking Google Wallet because it competes with ISIS. The big kicker is that their coverage isn't really much better than others these days. Blahblah I could ramble on all day about why I'm leaving VZW when my contract is up, I'll shut up now.
Sounds like a mixed bag so far. But the positives outway the negatives. I like my Razr M alot, but I do miss nexus customization a lot. I feel like if Verizon weren't so ridiculous with their policies I wouldn't be as bothered by my choice. Hardware wise I'm liking the RAZR m a bit more but the software freedom is a bit of a letdown. Having Stock is a plus though. I was set if it wasn't a nexus it would be flashable or stock.O yea, and as far as I'm concerned LTE is nullified and a big marketing ploy as long as caps are around.

If the salemen you spoke to aren't related to you by blood, then they lied to you. Aren't you curious why you ended up with a Razr as opposed to the well supported GNex? It's not a coincidence that every corporate Verizon store has a dedicated Razr section. They are pushing for sales of Razrs, because they have better control over their software. You won't find any Verizon bloatware on a Gnex (b/c Google won't allow it), thus they lose on advertising and endorsement dollars.
Personally, I've had a pleasant experience with my Verizon GNex. Sure, I don't get phenomenal battery life, but I still have access to a charger throughout most of my day (as most people would). Reception could be improved, but I don't have high expectations when it comes to Samsung's radio hardware. The camera though... isn't something I would show off. And you can't beat the dev scene; this phone will be up to date even when the next Nexus comes out.
I see more less and less interaction everyday.
Where is everyone flocking to? Nexus 4? Are they staying true to the nexus brand?

I sold it for 200€ and got a N4 from German Play Store for 265€ with shipping. New nexus doesn't intrigue me, specially because it seems it's going to be bigger from those Google videos.
I still use my GN, but it is an aging platform (by smartphone standards) and I've been eyeballing the Note 2 more and more. I'll likely make the jump to the 2 after the 3 is released and the price drops...I still can't justify a $350+ price tag for even a used Note 2. Luckily, Beanstalk 4.3 and Lean Kernel make the GN a nearly flawless performer and much easier to stick with.

I switched from my Galaxy S3 to my Galaxy Nexus after my S3 died. It was very inexpensive to get a used 32GB Verizon model.
I have to say the Galaxy Nexus feels dated and incredibly slow compared to a modern phone like the S3.
After the next Nexus device is announced, I'll likely buy out of my Verizon contract and switch to a T-Mobile month-to-month plan and grab the Nexus phone.
CDMA is suffering.

My GN more-or-less abandoned me...the cell radio stopped working. I thought about sending it to Samsung for repair but decided it was probably better to put the money toward a new phone. I went with the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition. I'd have rather stayed with the Nexus line, but I really wanted to have a removable battery and microSD card support, which the S4 has. And the Google Edition version is the next best thing to a Nexus in terms of promised OS updates. So far, it's been a great phone. But, if my Galaxy Nexus hadn't given up the ghost, I'd still be using it. It's a great phone.
id wait if your looking at the N4, it sucks compared to the Galaxy Nexus. the Galaxy was a beautiful thing. wait to see what the next nexus is like
How exactly does the Nexus 4 "suck"?
One of the few legitimate criticisms I hear about it is that it has no removable battery compared to the Galaxy Nexus.
I'm guessing the response will be something like "it's made by LG and therefore I will dismiss it as being a bad phone."
Got the N4 today and it's a jewel compared to the GN, specially the screen and extra RAM is awesome.

Try customizing first
I bought my GNexus a year ago. I felt this device very good in my hands. The moment in which I started to think about some other devices I started to customize my GNexus first. So I unlocked bootloader, I rooted it and then tryed many kernels and ROMs. The result was that I had a better devices at zero cost.
So this is what I'd like to recommend to anybody who's willing to change GNexus.

I'll be sticking with mine another year. I bought the wife an N4 a couple days ago and love it. We've moved to using VZW as our sole source of internet so the GNexus is really just a hotspot. With 4.3 the phone runs better than it ever has and without another unlocked phone on VZW everything else is garbage.
I still use my GNex, I don't have much issue with it. I have preordered an Omate Truesmart watch though, which I'll replace my GNex with in October when it ships. I'll most likely buy the new Nexus 7 for movies and such. Then I can use the watch as a hotspot for it should I need to.
I got the N4 as a freebie upgrade on contract then sold it for $300 wasn't impressed at all with n4 , still on gnex until nexus 5 comes.
Sadly I still have mine. I hate the battery life and it's really slow. My next upgrade is in May and if the rumors are true about the S5 being aluminum instead of plastic I'll probably get that.

Weakest part of the GN for me has always been the GPU, it was already a year old when the phone was launched. The CPU is good still good enough now for what it has to do, for a 2 year old phone. Shame Ti bailed out of the market.
I probably would have upgraded ages ago, but apart from regular phone stuff the only other thing I really need it to do is be a music player. And thanks to nexus louder mod, I haven't felt the need to change it.

I personally think the omap 4 laggs worse than the old single core scorpion processors, I have a gnex and I find on stock 4.2/3 I have constant freezes, lag and such, had an old galaxy exhibit 8 months ago as well and it ran 4.2 better than the gnex in my opinion

From my own personal experience, I think the Galaxy Nexus's horrible lag issues (which people here like to deny the existence of) are due to the I/O stack being terrible.
On every Galaxy Nexus I have tested, doing anything that puts even mild stress on the I/O stack causes the entire system to jank around. Putting enough stress on it can cause it to lock up entirely.
I agree that earlier single core Android devices I own will handle better than the Galaxy Nexus in certain situations, because they don't jank up after mild I/O taxation.
I have a launch day GNex, and being on verizon, i have yet to find a phone worth changing to.
I've learned to deal with the lag and bad battery, but Roms BAMF, PA, Purity, and now CM 10.2 has made this phone usable.
The GalNex is slow as hell on really any version of Android.... I mean it's best IMO on 4.3, I can type and the keyboard generally keeps up... For once.
I would have had to trash the GalNex because of the battery, but instead I was able to buy a new one... I think an important part of having a phone last is being able to replace the battery.
Then again, if I switch to the GSM Nexus line, $350 every year or other year isn't so bad, and the battery situation would more or less be remedied since I'd be getting a new phone often.
Hell maybe I'll just go iPhone
