Has any one experienced the phantom dial pad tone sometimes heard during calls on a phone w/ google voice? I have google voice integrated w/ my sprint epic 4g, and every once and a while I hear what sounds like the #4 being pressed.
I have confirmed that my dial pad is not up, and neither is the person's who I am talking to. I have tried disabling, and re-enabling the service, but it always comes back.
I guess I could just not use it, but I prefer it w/ CM9.
Any thoughts, suggestions? I could not find any previous threads on this.

So I just bought a new car, and while hooking my dinc up via Bluetooth I noticed that I cant call out from my phone because I have it set to ask every time I make a call if I want to use Google voice...it gets stuck on that screen and fails to make the call.
Is there a way to prevent the Google voice app from asking when calling out via Bluetooth?
Anyone? I could have sworn it worked Thursday when I picked the car up, that's the weird thing...
I'm not sure exactly where it is but there is an option in the settings somewhere that dictates how Google voice handles calls. It can be set to use Google voice, not use it, or ask.

I think that's for international calls. But, you phone might be dialing an international prefix before the number. That normally wouldn't matter, but Gvoice will take notice of it. I set mine to never ask because I never call internationally.
Ah yeah, I think loonatik is right. So if you do have 1+ before the number, GV will probably pick that up and that might be what's giving you troubles. Maybe?
No, I have it set to always ask...but I was hoping there was some way to override it if the call is made via Bluetooth. I could have sworn I had it working Thursday, but now it just fails because it gets stuck on the Google voice screen ...
Anyone know of any way to override the setting if making a call thru Bluetooth?
Or, an alternative would be for me to turn it off (or on) for all calls and have an easy way to bypass it...
Possible solutions...
Free, but a pain in the butt:
Drop the Google Voice Settings widget on one of your home screens. The third button (the one that looks like a handset inside of a settings button) toggles call modes for GV:
-Use for all calls
-Do not use
-Use for international
-Ask every time
Free, but I have never tried the app so I can't personally comment:
http://www.androidzoom.com/android_applications/communication/google-voice-callback-free_fpin.html
Looks like you could set this up to perhaps side-step the GV behavior of manually answering every time
I was about to write out how to do it with Tasker and the Locale Google Voice Settings plug-in. But I just realized that it doesn't have the all/none/ask choice as a plug-in setting: only the online stuff like forwarding phones, etc. Bummer - but maybe you could contact the dev about future integration
Google Voice always ask and bluetooth
Did you ever find a good work-around or solution for this?
I just got an S4 today, and I was hoping that the Google Voice app on the Android would be similar to the iPhone one. It's not.
I use google voice to call/text my friends (I ported my original # over to Google) and the main number for work. But when I tried making a call over bluetooth in the car, got the same problem as you, it got stuck on the "Always Ask" prompt. The problem with making it never ask, is there is no dialer to just go to like there is on an iPhone when you do want to make a call using Google Voice. So you have to keep switching the option on that widget before every call. So annoying.
Suggestions?
im a little new to the google voice game so this is very new to me. I got the app installed but it seems to not work very well (stock rom).
few things ive noticed:
1) if i tell it to use google voice for ALL calls - i only saw it use google voice once.
2) if i ask it to ask me weather to use google voice or not - it doesn't use google voice
3) my dialer lags with google voice installed
this is just after a few hours of testing.
does it just not work with our phone or is this an ICS problem - i read in google play - the reviews seem to say it does not work well with ICS?
Thanks guys!
I've been using GV for, I don't know...a long time...couple years maybe.
I don't have issue one or two.
I can say that it is a bit annoying that if you have it use GV to make calls, it is a delay. It has to make the call to a land line somewhere (a Google number I presume), then that number calles the number you are calling. That takes a while.
Also, if you have people calling the GV number ( I do) instead of your actual cell number, it rings longer on their end than what you hear it. Same reason...it has to traverse through Google's voice system first. Now, of course in all cell phones, the caller will hear ringing while the connection is being made, and they tend to think your phone is ringing all that time. But it is worse with GV.
In my case, eventually most people who call me know it may take a while for an answer.
After more playing.. If I dial a 7 digit number it skips Google voice.. If I dial with the area code then Google voice will go ahead and work.

Hmmm....interesting...I don't think I am experiencing that. I'll have to watch closer. If I was, I think I'd have people complaining about different numbers for me (ie. actual cell and the GV).
JFYI...the main reason I use GV is for the messaging. I don't pay for messaging form the carrier, due to using GV. One drawback to that is not being able to send pictures, but I don't really care about that.
Hi all, sorry for another question so soon. Anyway, with my old rooted re-rommed Evo 4 I was able to integrate with Google Voice and actually send text messages using Google Voice on the PC or on my tablet. I seem to have been able to get Google Voice "integrated" on the Optimus G, but I don't have the ability to send text messages from PC or tablet. Does anyone know anything at all about this? Any ideas? Thanks!
Aaron
Not sure why you are having that problem. My Google voice is working right. I was just on the PC yesterday sending texts.

Might have to remove your phone from Google voice and re add it?
I've had issues with Goggle Voice also that once I Integrate my sprint number with google voice, anybody that tries to calls me gets a busy signal. Don't even know how to fix this.
I've also had problems with google voice, whenever someone calls me and I answer, it goes straight to voicemail and I can even hear google voice talking.

Try uninstalling the GV app in the Play store then download it again. It should bring you through the settings again to confirm carrier integration. If that doesn't work go to voice.google.com on the computer, click the little gear on the top right, click settings and check the phone settings. You should see the little sprint logo next to your phone number.

This is not a "problem" but a feature... They call it call screening. Press 1 to accept the call, even after the person has started leaving a message. I turned off this feature. Go to voice.google.com on the computer, click the little gear on the top right, click settings, then click the tab for "Calls". Call screening is the first option, turn it off.
I only know all this because I have used GV since it first came out, then integrated immediately when Sprint made it an option.
Thanks all for the replies. I did as suggested and uninstalled google voice then reinstalled. It still wouldn't let me send texts from PC or tablet, but I guess I wasn't patient enough, because a short while later those features became available. So I guess for whatever reason there was a delay but I'm in business now.

I think there might also have been a slow-down on GV's end the past couple of days; I just received a voicemail from last night and a text from earlier this AM, so there might've been some general strangeness afoot as well.
If so, should I expect Hangouts to now ring when it bounces to that?
When I was on my S3, I never heard hangouts ring at all. Now on Note 4, not only does it take a while for the person calling to get the voicemail prompt, my computer will ring as well since I have the hangouts extension installed.
Is there a way to set it so it doesn't ring Google Voice? I followed the instructions on the Google Voice website which seems a little different than what it used to be.

the setting for if it rings hangouts is in your hangouts app.
I actually uninstalled dialer and disabled those settings but hangouts on my desktop and phone would still ring. I switched to at&t's visual voicemail as I got annoyed with it

has anyone been able to setup google voice to handle voicemail on their verizon LG G4? I tried setting it up but it could not configure and I poked around online and found a thread on the verizon forums where people were talking about the same issues.
You have to call and have Verizon activate it. I use it all the time with Verizon and my G4. I used it on my LG G2 also. It is not something that just works out of the box. It is a (paid?) feature.
I know because when I switched from the G2 to the G4, my Visual VM app wasn't working. I had to call Verizon and have them reactivate it before the app would start working.
so i would just tell them i want to use google voice as my VM provider instead of them?
You don't have to call Verizon at all. Simply dial the forwarding numbers.

Usually just the *71 plus your Google Voice number is all you have to do.

isnt this actually forwarding the call to my GV number rather than using my verizon number and setting up google voice as the VM service?

That's how you set it up. After your phone rings enough times, it will swap over to your Google Voice for voicemail. In your Google Voice settings just have it set to not do anything regarding calls.

so if i have my gv number ringing on my phone now, this method will not work, as it would ring twice right?
I have Google Voice voicemail fully set up. Confirmed working in Hangouts.
Follow the instructions and make sure you expand the section specifically for Verizon subscribers. When you dial each of the three numbers, you'll get a confirmation window on your phone about call forwarding.
As an added bonus, I disabled the visual voicemail app (VVM.apk) using the debloater tool. This way, I don't have to deal with visual voicemail , the standard VZW voicemail, or OTA updates ever again.
Google Voice is working completely for me as well and has been since I received my G4. If you follow the directions that have been posted several times, you'll set it up without issue.
One additional thing I will note is that Google Voice and VoLTE (Advanced Calling) on Verizon don't always play well together. If you're experiencing problems getting Google Voice to stick as your voicemail, turn Advanced Calling off and try setting it up again.
