So I just bought a new car, and while hooking my dinc up via Bluetooth I noticed that I cant call out from my phone because I have it set to ask every time I make a call if I want to use Google voice...it gets stuck on that screen and fails to make the call.
Is there a way to prevent the Google voice app from asking when calling out via Bluetooth?
Anyone? I could have sworn it worked Thursday when I picked the car up, that's the weird thing...
I'm not sure exactly where it is but there is an option in the settings somewhere that dictates how Google voice handles calls. It can be set to use Google voice, not use it, or ask.

I think that's for international calls. But, you phone might be dialing an international prefix before the number. That normally wouldn't matter, but Gvoice will take notice of it. I set mine to never ask because I never call internationally.
Ah yeah, I think loonatik is right. So if you do have 1+ before the number, GV will probably pick that up and that might be what's giving you troubles. Maybe?
No, I have it set to always ask...but I was hoping there was some way to override it if the call is made via Bluetooth. I could have sworn I had it working Thursday, but now it just fails because it gets stuck on the Google voice screen ...

Or, an alternative would be for me to turn it off (or on) for all calls and have an easy way to bypass it...

Free, but a pain in the butt:
Drop the Google Voice Settings widget on one of your home screens. The third button (the one that looks like a handset inside of a settings button) toggles call modes for GV:
-Use for all calls
-Do not use
-Use for international
-Ask every time

I was about to write out how to do it with Tasker and the Locale Google Voice Settings plug-in. But I just realized that it doesn't have the all/none/ask choice as a plug-in setting: only the online stuff like forwarding phones, etc. Bummer - but maybe you could contact the dev about future integration

I just got an S4 today, and I was hoping that the Google Voice app on the Android would be similar to the iPhone one. It's not.
I use google voice to call/text my friends (I ported my original # over to Google) and the main number for work. But when I tried making a call over bluetooth in the car, got the same problem as you, it got stuck on the "Always Ask" prompt. The problem with making it never ask, is there is no dialer to just go to like there is on an iPhone when you do want to make a call using Google Voice. So you have to keep switching the option on that widget before every call. So annoying.

Just put this on your drive and click on it with the file explorer. When it asks for voicemail setup hit the skip button. You have a google voice number right?

I just did. It asked to set up the voicemail but couldn't so it gave the option to skip it which I did. Google Voice on the 101.
mine just sits there trying to access my voicemail settings??????

I had the same issue with it being stuck on the voicemail setup and never offering a skip option. I used a the 0.4.2.13 version I found on this site and it worked. After getting past that problem now I can't figure out why I can't make calls from the google voice app. Does the dialer try to use a real phone dialer to make calls or why does it start to dial and then disappear? Anyone got a good solution for making calls from your archos using google voice? Sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread. Why does the Voice app not appear in the market either?? Can't even use the QR Code or the link from google.com/voice to install it. Have to find apk and side load. Would be nice to see this app show up in market with the most up to date version from google
I don't think you can use Google voice over work but texting works fine. You could use sipdroid and GV to make calls.
I installed Google Voice from the above apk. After much trial and error, I have texting working perfectly except for one thing. When somebody sends a text to my Google Voice number, the text goes to my cell phone and notifies me by a ringtone. The message also goes to the Google Voice Inbox on my Archos 101 but there is no kind of notification. Is there someway I can get a ringtone notification on my Archos for an incoming text message?

Try checking settings. There probably is an option to choose your Notification ringtone.
Ok guys - I know that this works on my Evo, and I will install it on my 101 when it gets here. But I wanted to put this down to see how it works for you.
This is taken from:
VOIP for Android devices
1. If not already done, install Google Voice on your device using the link already on this thread above.
2. Install Sipdroid from the Market on your device. Alternatively here is a link to it - Sipdroid
3. When you run the Sipdroid app for the first time, you’ll see a touch button at the bottom of the screen. This will setup Sipdroid, a background service at a site pbxes.org (a free virtual PBX site), and activate the VOIP service. You be prompted to enter your Google Account User ID and Password. This info is used to create an account at pbxes.org. This service does background/transparent call management.
4. Sipdroid will auto activate when you turn on wifi and stays active until you disconnect from wifi. There will be a new icon (Round icon which should be green when connected) in the notification area of your device showing if you are connected to the VOIP service. Close out of Sipdroid - I haven't used it again after successfully signing in.
5. Install fring from the Market. You'll use this to initiate GV/SIP calls over wifi.
6. Setup your SIP account on fring - make sure your entire pbxes.org address is used as the login.
7. Make sure that it successfully logs in, and then press menu and open the dialer. Enter in a phone number to dial, and choose "SIP call". I entered in the phone number with area code but no "+1" or "1" in front.
That should be all you have to do. Let me know if it doesn't work and we can troubleshoot. I will be getting my 101 soon and then I will be able to test this.
The method above worked great but when calling its muting the speaker on my 101. Any suggestions?
no issues here, i text with it all the time, now if i could only make phone calls, for the ringtone you need to open settings in google voice, enter the app and hit the menu button and go to settings, make sure notifications are turned on.

I haven't tried the texting but I was able to make calls last night using the posted method. Once I dial I hear the ringing on the 101 speaker but the instant I pick up the line I am calling the Archos volume icon on the top right shows with the X (muted). This happens automatically. When I try to do volume control the volume description says "in-call volume" and is at the first level but I can't raise or lower it. As soon as I end the call the volume icon goes back to normal. If we can resolve this we can make calls over wifi using the method posted by jerdog.

It has got to have something to do with not having the Phone.apk or TelephonyProvider.apk. It seems that it doesn't know how to route audio input.... It works on my HTC Evo phone....
Does Archos have a tablet that has a cell radio in it that we could extract those apk's and try adding them in even though we know it wouldn't work as a phone?
And has anyone tried using a Bluetooth or a wired headset to see if audio works in that?

I tried the wired headset but no luck, the system turns the sound off. Not sure if there is a cell radio in the Archos. I will try to play around some more today but I am still learning about Android.
I will also give a bluetooth headset a shot
Yeah That happens .... the only way now to solve the Speaker problem is by pressing the power Button and then choose Silent Mode and it will activate it

There isn't a radio in the Gen8 as far as I can tell - but I am wondering if any of their other models have one?
It's most likely an instance where we'll have to hack the kernel to include audio input - if the hardware is even capable of it. Or to allow BT audio in
This is for anyone wanting to use Google Voice as their talking system, but didn't like to because it wasn't a VoIP service. The name of the app is GrooVe IP (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gvoip&hl=en). Instead of calling your phone number, according to the instructions, since it's calling your google chat identity, it's free AND it works over wifi! I'm sure others, like myself, who have ****ty reception on the Incredible 2 but love the phone and want to use it like an actual phone, would love to know about this app.
I second this. Also by using this method, you aren't using any of your minutes in your plan.
Too bad that it can't do VoIP for incoming calls& texts.

I'm using this for incoming calls, as well as outgoing. I have -105dbm and my calls are all choppy and often drop while I'm home. This app is different than using google voice. What happens is that everything is routed through google chat and then sent over SIP. I've pulled the back off my phone and made my phone completely lose service and then I made a call using the app and it was 100% over wifi. I then had someone call me, while the back of my phone was still off, to see if I could also receive calls over wifi and it worked. As far as texts goes, I just use the standard google voice app for texting. Too bad there isn't a way to get texts to forward to a certain number lol
How is this different from turning on the option in google voice app? I been using Gvoice since I got my phone and I have it prompt me to use it or my verizon service to call on each call. I also give the Gvoice number out as mine since it works over the data network or wifi? Can someone explain the major differences?

Actually, when you make a call through this app, you are indeed using voip but when someone calls you, there is no way that the app can do anything because google voice can only reroute the call to your phone number. There is no such thing as voip incoming calls with google voice

This isn't about using google voice or not. It is about google voice over voip, not over your mobile provider's network. Let's say you are at a underground 5 floors below. You will not be able to make any calls with the regular GV app because the app only uses the provider's network and no, it doesn't use your provider's mobile data. What it does is it calls GV server and the server re-calls to your target. You do not see this on your phone because GV app changes the number for you but the real number it's calling is something very different. Something like this 219827419875018725101250.
Anyway, with this app, you can make calls over the internet, hence the name Voice Over Internet Protocol, voip. Also since you are using your data instead of your precious minutes, you can opt for the lower minutes plan.
Right, and from my understanding, when you use just regular google voice, you're still using your minutes. I still get disconnected from calls because I have horrible reception and service out here, but using the GrooVe IP app, I'm able to pull my back off and make it say I'm completely out of service and I can make a call using the wifi.
As far as what you stated about routing it to your phone number deaf, the app tells you to deselect your phone number and to select your google chat identity which is supposed to solve the issue of it dialing through to your phone when you receive a call. It just forwards it to the google chat and the app is sort of like a mediator between google chat and your phone, and the internet recognizes it as a google chat session. At least that's the way I understood it. I'm probably completely wrong because I'm just getting this app, but I'm doing more research. I thought it went through SIP because there are options in the troubleshooting thing in the app to override the STUN server which is based off of a sipgate address.
Edit: I was just thinking of this. You said it's not working right or w/e for when incoming calls come in. Have you completely logged out of google chat online and on your phone? If you're logged into GC from anything else other than the app, it will inadvertently try to call that device. So let's say your PC is logged into GC. I call your number and the app tries to forward it to the account, but GC picks up the call before your phone can and interferes with how the app is supposed to work.
You CAN make and RECEIVE calls with this app. All you have to do is setup a google voice phone number. Then from the google voice website, you route all incoming calls to go to your google chat, not your cell phone number. Then call your google voice number and it will ring on your phone through grooveip.
For all you guys using this, what settings have you used with this app? I found that I get choppy or laggy voice that makes this app difficult to use. I think it has to do in part to how our phone manages wifi power and sleep. Any tips or tweaks that you guys have found to work best?

Go into your troubleshooting and check off to always keep your screen on. If your screen turns off, it messes with the audio for some reason. As soon as I make a call, I quickly hit my power button twice so that it goes to the lockscreen so that I don't have to worry about accidentally dialing someone else or starting an app

The standard Google Voice by itself does not. What it does is just act as a go-between for your number and your GV number. Essentially all it is, is just a dummy number that people can use to call you without actually calling your actual phone number. Using this app I suggested, the number being called when someone calls your GV number is actually being caught by Google Chat and this program is the mediator between your phone and GC, thus meaning that you're using 100% data and nothing else.
Sorry for the triple post, lol. I just figured out how to use multi-quote the right way haha. I've been using these boards for almost a month now and I JUST now figured it out.

Currently there are none that I know of that don't involve intensive setting up, such as having multiple accounts to log into, setting up multiple forwarding numbers, etc. You can try getting the APK from apktop (google apktop groove ip 1.2.9 and it's the first link) and seeing if it works, but I'm not sure if it requires cracking to be able to use. This way is probably the simplest and 100% foolproof way. The only thing I dislike about this app is that my screen has to stay on to use this app or else I have severe issues of the sound cutting in and out, so I just press home and then my power button twice to get to the lockscreen so that i don't have any apps starting up unwanted. Personally I think it's well worth the $3.99, but then again, I've started supporting all the devs of the apps I really like. It was stated on facebook, by him, that he offers an extended refund period for those people unhappy with his app. How much longer? No idea. But it is guaranteed that you can try this app for 24 hours and if you don't like it you can always get a refund from the market.
So I just got my GN, and it's pretty freakin awesome! One thing I noticed though is that if I swipe calls to the left to ignore, it sends them to my new voicemail on verizon as opposed to my GV. If I let it ring all the way through though, then it routes to GV. It's not a super big deal because I can just push the power button and ignore calls that way, but still...
Also, the messaging sends through regular texts, and not GV...this last part I had heard before, but in case anyone else didn't know that.
Here's hoping they update the GV app to take care of these things.
My voicemail routing works correctly, however you're right on the auto-reply texts. Even with Google Voice set as the default action for messaging, they still send via the stock app.

Are you on verizon?
I went through a hassle to get Google Voice setup correctly on this phone. Had to upgrade my Voice account to a full Google Voice number, instead of just a voicemail number. Doesn't really matter, since I'm only using the voicemail functionality of it, but still.
Go to the phone and call *71 and your number (so *718001112222 if your GV number was 800-111-2222) and it'll set the call forwarding up correctly. Just have to make sure it's a *FULL* Google Voice number (can be done on the website - voice.google.com)

Yes, I am on Verizon. I use a full Google Voice account for calls, voicemails, and texts, and have call screening services turned off. I now use it on Galaxy Nexus and a Galaxy Tab 10.1; it's a wonderful setup.
On a side note, I did not have to call the routing number to set up my Voicemail forwarding. I simply selected "ok" both times during the Android setup process, ignoring the warnings about "incompatibility."

My send to Google voicemail is working correctly when I dismiss a call, but the text messaging option still tries to use the built in messaging app even though I disabled it.
Anyone know a way to force it to use Google Voice for text messaging?

Not sure what you mean by full gv account... I use it for everything, so I'm assuming I am on full.
I also pushed OK and ignored the incompatible warning, but that didn't work last night... Maybe because of 4.0.2? Either way, hopefully im fixed now.

My gf's phone has been having some issues with google voice for awhile now. She's always wanted the stock incredible VVM back, but no one's ever been able to find it on other forums. If anyone has the stock VVM for the phone, I think she would like that better.
If not...
Her issue is that whenever someone calls her phone it always has different responses. Some people call and say the number is unavailable, others say it asks for her subscriber number. I've called three times now and i've had those two errors along with one that actually got through. The problem is that she isn't receiving all her calls, which anyone on this forum can attest that this is a MAJOR issue, especially while she hunts for jobs. If ANYONE can figure out a solution to this problem it would be awesome. I've searched the web for weeks trying to find a solution or even an alternate VVM, but I haven't had any luck.
I just need to figure out one of the following:
- how to get back stock Incredible VVM
- how to fix or permanently get rid of google voice
- find an alternative VVM that works decently and can get past this google voice issue.
Any help would be appreciated...

What are her Google Voice settings set to? Open GV and navigate to: Menu/More/Making Calls? This setting should be set to "Do not use GV to make calls." I've been using it for about a year and across different roms with absolutely no problem, so this is a surprise to me.
To remove Google Voice (no don't do it, stop...aight I'm done):
If you want to remove GV, sign into her Google account from a computer, along the black Google title bar click on "More" then select GV from the list of Google services. Now, click the gear icon below your account name and there is a "deactivate Google Voicemail on this phone" link in blue. Once you deactivate Google Voice, your Verizon voicemail should be working. I haven't personally done this, cuz I actively use GV. I believe your Verizon voicemail is *86 if you want to access it over the phone. If you want, call Verizon to ensure the second phone (the GV account) number is disconnected from the account as well. Last step requires you to call and test her voicemail to make sure they come through.
P.s. Doesn't every rom include Voicemail Settings under Settings/Call? Does changing your settings there fail as well?

thanks that got rid of it. i also found how to set it back to the carrier voicemail like you said. i like google voice, but that problem not being able to receive calls 50% of the time just kills the functionality of a phone almost. i wish i knew the deeper problem of it so i could make it fully functional. thanks though, this fix will work for now.

I did a search on the forums and didn't find any relevant threads, so I'm creating this one.
I have my Google Voice app set to show a prompt asking which number I want to use before each call. However, I've noticed that on occasion the call will go through using my carrier line before I even make a selection on the prompt. I tested this further and set Google Voice to always use Google Voice line to make calls, then I made calls to another number I have access to. After several test calls, I found that about half the time, the call still goes through my carrier line. There wasn't any indication on my phone that it was using the carrier line or Google Voice line.
If I use the Google Voice app to make a call, it will always use my Google Voice line, even though it's going through the phone's stock dialer app.
I'm wondering if anyone else has similar issues and what solutions there might be to fix this. I wanted to replace the stock dialer with Google's dialer app and Google Contact app, but it seems that Google's dialer app is not compatible with the Mate SE/7x.
Can anyone think of a solution? I think that by somehow making the stock dialer delay for 2-3 seconds before each call, it would give enough time for Google Voice prompt to show up and freeze the dialer until I make a choice. I'm not sure how to do this, though.
Alternatively, are there any good dialers to replace the stock one?
I am having a similar issue on my Honor 7X and my wife's 6X. GV has been working great for months on both phones. Now (I think we noticed it in late April) when someone calls our Primary Phone # it doesn't get routed to GV Voice Mail, it goes to the Carrier's VM. For my wife, when someone calls her GV # it doesn't ring on her phone and is routed to her carrier VM. When she sets removes her "Linked Number" then calls to her GV # are routed to GVM but do not ring on her phone.
I have tried installing an older version of GV, no luck, and I have since been updated to EMUI 8 (Android 8.0) and I still have the same problem. I'm wondering if it's a carrier issue/change? We use Consumer Cellular (ATT network). When I go into Call Forwarding in Call Options it will not let me set a Call Forwarding number and tells me "Unexpected Network Response."
Hopefully someone will fix this soon. My wife uses her GV# for work.
