None.
Sim-free all the way, in the past I have done 12 & 18 month contracts, but i'd rather be in total control.
If I want a new phone, I just get one & keep my sim & number without hassle.

At the moment I have 2 contracts.
I have one contract already for like 8 years.
And I took another one almost 2 years ago.
I will end my second one in September

I've taken out a second 12 month contract for the One X. My other contract runs out this Coming November, just in time for the SIII?

Just one.
Which my employer pays for.
When I worked for Orange I tended to have 2 or 3 at any given moment, but it just ends up being a huge waste of money!

Just the one, they only last 6 months which is the perfect length imo

Just ordered my Desire :D

After 18 months in contract with T-mobile (UK), with my awesome G1, the contract has ran out.
I have now upgraded to a htc desire, but with a 24 month contract :/ (but i survived with the G1 for 18 months, so 24 with a desire should be a piece of cake ).
Its on pre-order, again, but i have priority and I was told I will get a text within 7 days telling me my desire has shipped .
Hope you enjoy it like the rest of us are

I came from a touch plus (which broke) before I got my Desire, they tried the 24 month contact BS with me too so I went out of contract for a month or two (with a discount on my line rental) and got my phone for free on an 18 month contract with reduced line rental. Also T-Mobile didn't have any desire's in stock but told me if I could source one from a T-Mobile store I could go and collect it from there. 10 minutes with a list of local stores and I had my phone waiting to be collected.
Moral of the story, NEVER accept your phone companies first offer!
P.s is it too late for you to do something similar? I'm pretty sure you haven't accepted your new contract until receipt of the new handset. If you can handle another month or so of your G1.

I would not get your hopes up, I ordered an upgrade (through retentions) one week ago, was told I would have the phone wednesday, phoned and they said they had no stock and did not know when more would come in!

Moved upgrade date?

To make a medium story short, I dropped my phone onto the concrete w/ no cover and it popped front bezel halfway off and ever so slightly chipped a corner of the screen. Using a case that I had holds the phone together. Phone works fine but I figured this was a good enough excuse to buy a new phone, problem was that my upgrade is up Dec 28. So I gave Verizon a call and asked about the free 4g smartphone regional promotion for long time customers that was on the news blog sites. I asked if I had qualified but she said that people that qualified got the email and that my upgrade was too far off to move. After being put on hold, she came back and asked what phone I was considering and said that she was able to move my upgrade date to today! This took me by surprise and she told me that I would have to order right now while I was on the phone with her so I ordered the Nexus over the Maxx.
I just wanted to share my experience and wondered if anyone else had a similar story.
FYI, when they do this your contract extends two years from when it was supposed to end. So if it ended Dec. 28 2012 than your next contract will end Dec. 28, 2014 not from the day you bought the GNex.
I'v had them do this for me before except mine was somewhere in the 2-3 month range not 10. I'm wondering if you were grandfathered into the previous program they had for family plans. They used to allow the primary account holder on family plans to upgrade after 18 months, not the 22-24 month time frame of normal lines.
I thought about seeing if I could pull this off when they were running the 100 off promotion this past wednesday but honestly after seeing the One series phones I really want to see if one of them ends up at Verizon. I was not blown away enough when I tried ICS to instantly jump for a Gnex.
My extension was moved to 2 years after I bought the phone, March 2 2014. I'm not on a family plan, just me. I'm on the 450 min, unlimited text/data plan.
That's a pretty sweet deal then. Kudos for pulling it off.
So much is pure luck when dealing with Verizon - just who you happen to get on the phone. I've had reps outright refuse to budge a single dollar on a network extender (we're in the middle of a black hole in their network), and on another occasion I got a rep to give us one totally free. I had reps refuse to replace my Fascinate with anything but another despite all the known problems that phone had, and then one readily offered to replace both mine and my wife's with Inc2s.
Makes you wonder what policies the reps really need to adhere to.
Good job getting a good one. Like the other poster, the HTC One series looks pretty interesting, and they should come (or not come) to verizon by the time my contract is up.

Same plan as you there.. grandfathered in with the 450 and unlimited. Wife wanted to change and saw we were unlimited and changed her mind. Especially since I haven't used less than 6 gigs a month recently

I'm kinda surprised that I was able to keep the promotional plan. I think it was Jan 2011 Verizon was running a promo to include unlimited texting if you had unlimited data. I was able to to jump on that bandwagon but was told it would only last one year, then my plan would revert to the one I had before it and paid the regular amount for texts. Two months after it should have changed, I'm still on that plan. Even asked the rep about it.
I've heard tale of reps being phone nazis and scrooges but I've been with them since 2004 and have never had a single issue with either my phones or billing go unresolved and not in my best interest.
Ive had this plan for over 3 years now.. coming in my new contract in June.. I just stay with the same one.. do not want to lose my data... I still have half a month left this billing cycle and I'm already over 4 gigs
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
As long as you're not changing anything specific with the plan (minutes, txt, data, etc) they wont require you to change the plan. It's only when you go to adjust something with the plan will they say "We can only do X if we change Y".

Anyone else patient enough to wait until after general release?

Or is it just me?
Now don't get me wrong, as I've been waiting for a decent upgrade option since my trusty HD2 and would love the phone on the release date because my HD2 is very close to dying and my stupid new workplace haven't sorted me out with a phone despite me being there for nearly 2 months now (a massive and very well-known global IT company, believe it or not!).
But when I called Vodafone, my current network (yes, that's right "network", not "carrier" - I'm not American!) to try to get the phone on a cheaper deal (read "free" for £30 a month for 18 months), they said they couldn't be flexible on any of the tariffs on pre-orders. So I have the wait. I don't mind, but what really winds me up is the angst in this forum: "oh no, mine won't be delivered til 11th April!" Yes? And?
Well if you pre ordered a phone which costs about 800 pound in total on an average contract and the release day is the 5th and some are delievering then, and others on the 11th. I can see their point.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
I think if the phone had already been released and you had to wait 6 days for it then they might have a point. For pre-orders, not so much as HTC have, as far as I'm aware, never specified a release date.
I take it you're one of those who has to wait?

Yes they can, but you need to speak to retentions and not upgrades
Just do what I do and go through phones4u or similar 3rd party company for your upgrade. Orange, who I've been with for 6 years will not budge on upgrades for me, despite me being on their highest banding, so I upgrade thru phones4u now who will sell you the contract and (usually unlocked and unbranded phone) for a lot less than the stupidly strict network providers. I got the One X on an 18 month contract, 600 minutes, 3000 texts and 750mb internet for only 28.50 a month and they have thrown in the medialink for free too. Give them a try

same problem... whats really bugs me is that I don't know when or how much will it be when it hits the markets in my country
I`ll be a month behind everyone....due an upgrade on May 6th.At least by then the devs should be in full swing
tough question, simple answer.. will get my hands on it, if I get it a bit lower than the MRP, however can't wait 6 months for the price to come down, then something newer will come and I won't be ever able to buy a phone in this cycle.
Btw, I will also upgrade from HD2,
I will be one week behind than everyone else since im getting paid next week i can't wait any longer..i will be making a black&cyan theme for sense 4.0 when i get it
Well the One X should be out by mid-april in my country, but I will wait till second week of May because it's my birthday and because htc phone prices usually decrease about 100-150$ after 3 weeks
I'm waiting for t mobile UK to start displaying contracts so think it will be a couple of days after release before I take the plunge, but as my contract is up on the 31st I should be in a decent position to keep my current contract sign up for another 18 months and get the phone for free

This One is going to be a worthy replacement for my HD2!
im counting the days....
If you pre-order you get the Media Link Box for free and the plan I've pre-ordered on makes it a steal. 12 Month contract with Vodafone with HTC One X black, HTC Media Link, 300mins, 500mb, unlimited texts total cost £542. Sure as hell beats paying £490 outright from Amazon which was what I was going to do!
Sadly Voda/Orange/O2 were out of the question for me as unlimited data is a necessity.
I was severely hamstrung with 500mb of data on my Dz on Vodafone, and since moving to three two weeks ago I've downloaded over 2gb data.
In terms of pre-ordering, the trick is to get your employer to pay for your phone, then it doesnt matter how much the contract costs
My upgrade date is April 15th, so I've got to wait until release!

I haven't paid for a phone for about 10 years and I've had about 10 in that time!
Unfortunately, the One X isn't likely to be one of the phones on the list of devices my employer will issue. I asked for an HTC and they offered me a Wildfire S or a Desire S!! I declined and they've given me an SGS2 instead. Fortunately, they will allow me to get my own device and stick their sim in it
i'm probably waiting until 4/25, but only so i don't spend all of my money. i want so many records i've just bought around 30, so that cost a big chunk. i will manage a few weeks without a phone. i put my ATT account on vacation. they said it would cost $10 for the time it was suspended, then resume normal billing when i call to have it restored. i didn't say it was because i sold my GS2, though. i said i was going out of the country.

Anyone using Jump!

Anyone using jump to upgrade to the m8? I'm relatively new on using jump, so I'd like to know what I would have to do? And do I have to make a new down payment once I trade in my old phone? (iPhone 5s)
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You can pretty much can get all the answers on T Mobile's website. I'll be honest with you jump is pretty lame now considering you can just sell your iPhone 5s and get much more money in return towards the M8
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
Under the new terms of Jump, if your iPhone isn't completely paid off you'll have to pay at least 50% of what you still owe when you Jump. It doesn't look like the M8 will have a down payment when it debuts April 11, but you'll probably have to pay the tax on the phone's full price.
The "Jump" privilege adds another $10 to your bill. So I'll just make installments on the M8 and sell my old phone myself. I'll get way more for it that way.
Don't have an answer to the OP's question, but I heard people who got onto Jump before T-mobile changed it (in Feb wasn't it?) will remain grandfathered on the old plan until they opt to switch to new version. So the older plan was somewhat better deal because one didn't had to pay half-cost of the phone before switching.

Yes, Jump adds $10 to your bill...but that $10 includes the $7.99 insurance that covers accidental damage.

This is correct. Anyone who got on Jump after Feb 23rd I believe (could be the 25th, but def after the 21st cause thats when i switched), stays on the original plan and can upgrade every 6 months without having to pay off half their phone first.
Okay so you still have to make a new down payment (if any)?

No you are gradnfathered into the old jump. Already jumped and I am still on the old jump.
Also it's not upgrade every 6 months. it's twice a year. You can jump after the first 6 months then after that it's anytime. So it won't reset until after your first jump has expired(1 year).
So if you jumped January 1, 2014 then jumped Febuary 22 you used your two jumps and can't jump again until January 1, 2015.

Crap, I had the wrong idea of how original Jump worked. I thought the clock on the 12-month period started when you initially signed up for Jump, not after your first Jump. This means that if I switch to HTC One M8 like I had planned that I'll have to wait until January 2015 (first Jump was January 2014) instead of July 2014 (sign-up date). Can I really keep myself satisfied with the same phone for 9-10 months? Tough question...
I get a headache trying to figure out how Jump works. I wish they made it simpler.
JUMP2.0 is simpler. Once you have paid off half the device you can JUMP2 to a new one. Which means trade in your old device, balance owed is cleared, pay a new down payment(credit based) and start again....when you get half paid again, you can JUMP2 again....
Which one do you have?
Orig jump is after the initial 6 month cooling period you can JUMP anytime. Trade in, balance wiped, pay down payment and go. You can only have 2 jumps in any 12 consecutive months.
Eazy peazy

If you have to make a down payment jump 2.0 is better. If you don't then 1.0 is better.
I don't see many people jumping more than twice a year.

Original jump is way better IMO. Paying off half the phone to jump...not in my cards. Twice a year is fine for me.

AT&T Next Upgrade After 4 Payments

i already posted this on the galaxy s5 at&t forum, i thought it would be relevant here also for anyone interested.
i went into at&t store today and pre-ordered my note 4. the 4 month policy of having at least 4 monthly installments paid is 100% true. they changed this policy 2 months ago to be more competitive with other carriers upgrade policies. as long as you've paid 4 installments on your phone you can bring in your phone every 4 months and upgrade to a new one as long as the phone is in good condition. they use the trade in to wipe out your remaining installments and start you on a new one. the phone you're trading in has to currently be on an at&t next plan. so basically you can upgrade every 4 months now with at&t. that's a pretty awesome deal if you're into always having new phones a couple times a year. that is better than t-mobiles every 6 months. they also reimburse you $25/line to take away the normal subsidy that the regular 2yr contracts have. so you arent paying an extra subsidy for having an at&t next plan. i have confirmed it multiple times with customer support and also at my local at&t store.
just wanted to give a heads up to let everyone know this news is indeed true.

Yeah, I'm not buying it either. AT&T would be flipped on the value of the device at that time. At the 12 or 18 month period they can still turn a good profit on the device. Would be nice to know though. I'm always selling mine and paying the contract off. Always costs a little out of pocket.

IMO you didn't lead us wrong. It was the dumb jerks at AT&T. AT&T people are horrible and they will likely never be on the same page.
That's not the way it works. I'll use myself as an example. I'm on Next 18 (you pay 12 installments) with a Note 3. When the Note 4 pre-order page went up I had paid 11 months on the Note 3 and had 1 installment left. I was given the option to either pay the remaining $35 installment early or pay the full pay-off for the phone which was $350ish to move to a Note 4. I chose to wait until my next bill when my last installment would be included so I'll have completed all 12 installments.
So OP's probably right about trading your phone in ever four months. He's almost definitely wrong about it not costing anything. My guess is if he's on Next 18 where you have to pay 12 installments to walk away with a new phone he'd end up with this:
He'll owe AT&T $420 for the Next 18 agreement on his four-month old Note 3 ($35 x 12 = $420). He'd get $140 credit for making four payments ($35x4=$140). So he'd have to pay $280 ($35x8=$280) and give them a four-month old N3 to start the Next clock again on a new Note 4.
Whether trading a four-month old phone for a new one for $280 is a good deal or not is probably in the eye of the beholder.
So you are saying if I pay 12 months. And I decided to pay off the balance of the phone. Can I keep the phone or sell it? Or do I still need to always trade in phone with the next program?

You can keep the phone. You can pay the balance off at anytime and grab a new device. Just can't trade it in until you've met the 12 or 18 month term. I honestly would never trade my phone in at that point. Could sell it for much more.
So if I sign up for AT&T 18. I can only upgrade when 18 months are up?

You can only trade in your device to AT&T at 18 months. You can elect to payoff your contract at any time and upgrade. The payoff has to be made in a corp store and upgrade eligibility is reset instantly.

So basically if I pay 12 months and I have 6 months left on my 18 months program. If the phone is worth 450 on eBay or Craig's list. I can use that money pay off phone then start a new next program with a new phone. I won't need to trade in phone. Correct.

If you make 18 or 24 (Next 18/24) payments the phone is yours. Or at 12 or 18 (Next 18/24) months swap it and begin a fresh Next cycle.
You either trade in the phone with the Next plan or you can just pay if off and keep the phone. I just use the Next plan because it's 0% financing and I can pay it off whenever I want. You are always still better to go with a 2 year contract because you aren't paying that much for the phone.
