Anyone using jump to upgrade to the m8? I'm relatively new on using jump, so I'd like to know what I would have to do? And do I have to make a new down payment once I trade in my old phone? (iPhone 5s)
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You can pretty much can get all the answers on T Mobile's website. I'll be honest with you jump is pretty lame now considering you can just sell your iPhone 5s and get much more money in return towards the M8
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
Under the new terms of Jump, if your iPhone isn't completely paid off you'll have to pay at least 50% of what you still owe when you Jump. It doesn't look like the M8 will have a down payment when it debuts April 11, but you'll probably have to pay the tax on the phone's full price.
The "Jump" privilege adds another $10 to your bill. So I'll just make installments on the M8 and sell my old phone myself. I'll get way more for it that way.
Don't have an answer to the OP's question, but I heard people who got onto Jump before T-mobile changed it (in Feb wasn't it?) will remain grandfathered on the old plan until they opt to switch to new version. So the older plan was somewhat better deal because one didn't had to pay half-cost of the phone before switching.

Yes, Jump adds $10 to your bill...but that $10 includes the $7.99 insurance that covers accidental damage.

This is correct. Anyone who got on Jump after Feb 23rd I believe (could be the 25th, but def after the 21st cause thats when i switched), stays on the original plan and can upgrade every 6 months without having to pay off half their phone first.
Okay so you still have to make a new down payment (if any)?

No you are gradnfathered into the old jump. Already jumped and I am still on the old jump.
Also it's not upgrade every 6 months. it's twice a year. You can jump after the first 6 months then after that it's anytime. So it won't reset until after your first jump has expired(1 year).
So if you jumped January 1, 2014 then jumped Febuary 22 you used your two jumps and can't jump again until January 1, 2015.

Crap, I had the wrong idea of how original Jump worked. I thought the clock on the 12-month period started when you initially signed up for Jump, not after your first Jump. This means that if I switch to HTC One M8 like I had planned that I'll have to wait until January 2015 (first Jump was January 2014) instead of July 2014 (sign-up date). Can I really keep myself satisfied with the same phone for 9-10 months? Tough question...
I get a headache trying to figure out how Jump works. I wish they made it simpler.
JUMP2.0 is simpler. Once you have paid off half the device you can JUMP2 to a new one. Which means trade in your old device, balance owed is cleared, pay a new down payment(credit based) and start again....when you get half paid again, you can JUMP2 again....
Which one do you have?
Orig jump is after the initial 6 month cooling period you can JUMP anytime. Trade in, balance wiped, pay down payment and go. You can only have 2 jumps in any 12 consecutive months.
Eazy peazy

If you have to make a down payment jump 2.0 is better. If you don't then 1.0 is better.
I don't see many people jumping more than twice a year.
Sent from my C6916 using Tapatalk
Original jump is way better IMO. Paying off half the phone to jump...not in my cards. Twice a year is fine for me.

Do you guys think they will sell out in stores fast? Did the M7 sell out fast?
I would assume the S5 will take the shine away from the M8 on release day.
I'm going before they open just in case.

I want to get the galaxy nexus but am not up for an upgrade so I was thinking what if I added a line to get get the new phone for $299 and then cancelled that line within the 14 day return period can I keep the phone and cancel the line or would I have to return the phone as well?
I just don't want to pay $600 plus for a phone....

you would have to pay an early termination fee of however much it costs per line, I think it's $200 per line.
But don't they give you 14 days? But even if you have to pay a termination fee of 200 that equals out 500 which is a little better than 649/700

$299 is a subsidized price. If you canceled the line, i'm pretty sure Verizon is going to want the rest of their money.

Add the line, buy the nexus, then switch it on that line with a dumb phone.
Then one you cancel that line, youre not gonna make them want the nexus back.

So just by changing the phone they won't want the nexus back? And is there really a 200 fee for cancelling a line before the 14 trial day?
I know they have a ETF for 350 but that's when you are already stuck with them as a carrier

Just stick it out, if you have your Inc2, keep using it, find a nice custom rom. A lot of progress is being made on an ICS rom. It's a solid phone!

If this worked, i would think they would figure it out pretty quick and knipp it in the bud
Otherwise, VZ wont let you keep the phone if you cancel the service. They will require the remainder of the cost. I guarantee it.
If you get the nexus (299) you have 14 days to RETURN the phone for no etf cancellation fee, so either you buy the phone for 300 then cancel the line AFTEr 14 days and pay 350 on top of that, best idea... if u already have a family plan you can add an extra line for $10 a month and put some old crappy phone u have laying around on that line, then use that upgrade to get yourself a nexus for 300 and just let that line run for 2 years
Cancel option: 650
Full retail: 650/700
Ghost line: 540 (300 upfront and 10 a month for 2 years)

Just a heads up when a line is canceled within the FIRST 6 months from Verizon one of the first calls made is to the store owner where the phone was purchased. If the owner states that the phone was not returned then Verizon has rights to charge you full retail for the phone in question.
If said phone was purchased through an indirect agent then store owner has right to charge you full retail for the phone. Which will more than likely be sent straight to a collection agency.
The best outcome if you go that route is to buy the phone from Walmart or some where similar. They have so much going on that you could easily get lost in the shuffle.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
I was worried they would charge me full price after switching back to my ghetto flip phone with 75mb data 4 months later but not cancelling my plan. That's different than cancelling a line and was told I wouldn't be charged. Good to know that after 6 months I can cancel .
The reason it is 6 months is because that is how long it takes to get commissions from verizon. Once the store has received commisons on the sale the cost of the phone is covered.
If you switch to a basic phone there are no repercussions.
If you can sweet talk a Rep he or she can place a dummy sku on your account which will in turn void out your early termination fee.

If he wants to be legit and not screw over someone (the carrier or a store by trying to make off with a $650 phone for $300), his best bet would be to add a second line to his plan with the new phone, then cancel his current line.
He didn't state how long remained on his current contract, but the early termination fee is pro-rated, so it'll be reduced by $10 per month X however many months he's been paying on his current contract. If he's been on that contact for a year, the ETF would be in the $200 range.

You can swap numbers between phones, but yea, only being 4 months into a contract would leave you on the hook for the vast majority of the etf. I've come to the conclusion that chasing the latest and greatest is insane - too many phones are being released too quickly to keep up.

Yea, I was all set to but the Nexus One when it was supposed to come to Verizon, and was pretty disappointed when they killed it. Personally though, the Galaxy Nexus is just too damn big for me, and the fact that it's built by Samsung is a turn-off as well, given my experience with the Fascinate. So, I hear 'ya, but for me, it's actually very easy to look away!
The reality is that aside from NFC, which I really have no use for, the Galaxy Nexus doesn't do anything my Inc2 can't. Dual cores are kinda lost on me, I just don't see the point on a phone. There's really nothing I use the phone for that would need that kind of CPU power. To each their own though.
Currently rocking a sensation and sold it on ebay for 370(lol) but still haven't shipped it yet, though will do it on Monday or when the guy pays me. Anyway I was wondering if the Gnex is still worth it. I was thinking of GS3 or OneX but they are really expensive I think the Gnex is still par with both
Don't you guys think?
Thanks

You can get the verizon nexus free under contract right now at amazon. The ETF is 350 so it costs the same as the gsm nexus without a contract.

What?? Yeah, if you don't figure in the $1,700 you'll lose from a 2 year contract while spending around $70 a month. That's around $1900-$2000 if you wanted to pay the ETF to cancel early. The most you'd spend with a Gnex and (for example) the T-Mo $30/month plan? $1100. My advice? Get the Gnex. I am receiving mine Monday, switching over to it from an iPhone and I couldn't be more happy to not only go back to Android but also go back to an unlocked phone. Being contract free is exhilarating. It'll be worth it, then whenever the new Nexus comes out, you don't have to wait for any contracts to expire or anything like that you just have to wait for the $349 price tag again

The up-front cost of the device is a very small fraction of what you pay in a 2 year contract at Verizon...

Definitely. A lot of people are comparing it to newer phones that have better specs, but in the end the Nexus still wins. I switched to a note a month ago to try it out and I cannot wait to get rid of it and get another nexus...
the nexus is not lacking in hardware, the camera works GREAT if you learn how to use it and aosp with quick/real updates is what makes it the better device. I can't even explain how much of a disappointment it is having something so good as the nexus and then downgrading to a phone you think would have been better... besides, owning a nexus supports the true android experience

How did you get it sold for so much?!?! I am planning on doing the same as you, But the prices on ebay are mostly all bellow 200 anything above that has no bids :/ Mine has a 32 gb SD card. two cases all original accessories an extra anker battery and is in mint condition. My only doubt was that the phone is already over 6 months old and specs are decent but nothing compared to the One x or S3. I wonder how many more full versions of android it will see after jellybean. I thought about waiting for the next Nexus but I highly doubt it will carry the same price tag.

I dunno why I'm going to be the one pointing this out, but that poster mentioned the ETF because there is a practice of buying phones on contract and then paying the ETF which is usually half of the price of an off-contract version. You don't pay anything monthly for the Verizon because you cancel.

Huh never thought of doing that. However my ETF is still $150 and there is only 2months left on my ATT contract. My wife has a year left and her ETF is $275. I know over the course of 2 years you'd make it up by going prepaid either way though.
I guess if for some reason I don't like my Nexus I can use my upgrade to get the SGS3 and just ETF right away.

I think its amazing!
My trusty Gnex was recently stolen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863863, and I am currently facing a troubling dilemma. I realize there are something like 5 "Nexus" devices being released this fall/winter. I also realize that isnt "all" that long from now. However, it is a few months away and a lot will be going on. I have a little one at home and they grow so fast at this age. These next few months have Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years which are all key photo/video opportunities. The phone I am currently using is an old Gingerbread device that is "ok", but certainly not able to take the quality pics and videos like the Gnex.
So my dilemma is do I drop $350 (directly from Google) and pick up a new phone or wait? To be honest, if I could get the Gnex for like $150 or $200 I would be happy to sign a service contract. I am currently on Tmobile and they have told me I am upgrade eligible since I havent had a contract in many years, but they dont sell the Gnex! Due to the fact that all CDMA providers SUCK (and are so expensive) I cant consider moving away from Tmobile, so changing carriers is not an option. I checked around and I cant even find a 3rd party retailer that sells the Gnex AND can provide me with a new Tmobile plan. The biggest problem is I know the minute the new Gnex drops I am going to want it, but I dont know if I can justify spending $350 now plus another $500 (or whatever) in a few months.....

Don't know why you're even considering this, considering that service contracts cost way more than the $150-$200 that you'd save.
Not going to kid, it does suck that you lost the phone at this particular time. There aren't very good options when the next big thing you want isn't out quite yet; they all cost money. Buying a new Nexus will be $350ish, a new contract will cost $1400ish (depending on the upfront price of the phone and your opportunity costs); that comes out to $800 even if you resell the phone for full price (an unrealistic scenario) when the next Nexus comes out. If I could stand it, I'd just keep using your gingerbread and pray it comes out soon.
Getting a used GN if you want to pay around $200 (as Jason suggests) is also another option. Hell, you might even be able to resell it for a similar price (though naturally there will be a price decrease when the new one comes out).
Used has a corner crack but everything still functional do still a great device

The OP mentioned he/she is already with T-Mobile and eligible for an upgrade.

That does not reduce the opportunity cost of a new contract in any way.

Don't know why you're even considering this, considering that service contracts cost way more than the $150-$200 that you'd save.

Trust me, I am very aware of how annoying contracts are and that is why I have been without one for so many years. However, I currently get a decent discount from a company I used to work at (6 years ago!!) which makes my bill comparatively low. If I switch to the new Tmobile unlimited plan I will be all in (taxes, and everything) for just over $60 per month. I do see that Straight Talk offers "unlimited" everything for $45, but I don't know if that includes taxes or if it is truly unlimited. I have given thought to going to prepaid however, so you do raise a valid point. In either case though, I still need a new GNEX!!
Buy a good older model canon camera. Problem solved. $100

If you don't mind buying something other than a Galaxy Nexus, why get yourself a GS III once it gets cheaper. Its actually going for $99.99 online right now! Sale ends at 11:59pm today!

The S III seems like a nice enough phone, but its really just not for me. I swore I would never purchase another non-Nexus phone again as I do not care for the horrible "tweaks" these companies do to core Android OS. I would end up rooting it and then installing a vanilla JB ROM on the thing, and then being frustrated that it wasnt actually a Nexus device!

I already have a decent digital camera, but using it feels like a throwback to 2002. It far thicker than my (any?) phone, requires I carry two devices, and can't record in proper HD. Yes, it does take nicer pictures but the "cons" of constantly needing to remember to carry it make it frustrating. I also must say that I got used to the convenience of my photos automatically syncing to Dropbox!
Regarding the suggestion for a used GNex, I do like the idea and I am currently searching for one. The problem is that Craigslist is so full of scammers these days. Even the people that DO actually have it will tell you its a "9.5 out of 10" in terms of condition and then when you go meet them the thing looks like it went through a cement mixer.
I definitely would never get a non nexus android phone again including the S3, I would rather go back to using an iPhone than do that.
I am due for an upgrade with Sprint. I am currently on the Evo 4g. There seems to be some good holiday deals on the S3 right now. I was thinking about jumping on one of these. However, after doing some reading it looks like the S4 may not be too far around the corner. Any thoughts on waiting it out or even waiting for the first of the year for some of the new HTC line? I know waiting with a subsidized carrier like Sprint means you're basically losing money, so I'm trying to decide the best course of action.
I would say just get the s3 its an amazing phone I'm running cm10 on it right now and its super fast stable and the battery life is amazing! The s4 most likely won't be out until next summer if you want a major upgrade I would say wait for the galaxy note3 or the nexus5!

I got mine on black friday so it was impossible to turn down. I had the evo, but it just wasn't cutting it. Rooted and everything stripped out of it, I still couldn't have facebook, google music, google maps, and skype installed at the same time because of storage issues. I really like the s3, and if you can get a good deal on it, you might as well. My gf still has the evo, and she's now eyeing my s3. If you want to wait for the s4, you might as well wait for the s5 or s6, or whatever... My philosophy with tech has always been, what will benefit me the most now, because if you always have in the back of your head that you plan to upgrade, you never will. Do it now, or do it never lol
I'm currently leaning toward the upgrade, but I may have just been dealt a blow. I checked with Amazon and they said I'm not eligible for the $50 price because I'm a current customer (despite that I'm up for a two year contract extension). Does anyone else have any experience with this? Is this true?

That doesn't make sense. Could you print out price from Amazon and go to best buy for price match?
I could see if they still had premier upgrades after first year but you have fulfilled your 2 year obligation to sprint. You're a free agent now.

That's what I figured as well. I haven't really found any information on the internet about people upgrading after a 2-year contract either. Has anyone successfully done so through Amazon or any other retailer? Perhaps I was mistaken when I thought the discounted price applied to me?
Also, will it matter that I am on a SERO plan? Don't want to lose that guy!

Best buy is supposed to be having a sale on the Galaxy S3 this Sunday....it'll be $50 in store.
Got mine for $30 through Amazon about 3 weeks ago. But I was a new sprint customer.

Easy call, if you see an outstanding deal on the S3 ($50 or under) then snag one. If a deal doesn't come your way then hold off. I'm on the SGS3 right now and it is a pretty amazing device. I was able to get it for $50 through Sprint on the Black Friday stuff, my wife's SGS3 on the other hand we shelled out $250 for, and we just wish we had waited the extra couple of months *Grin*.. Of course if you are like some and Money isn't an issue Get Both !
Just got mines Today at Best Buy for $49.99. One day sale!!!
Got mine black friday, price matched from sams at walmart. Got a $100 gifrcard too. Freakin sweet! Id say get this phone, its gonna be one people still want a year from now. Promise.

I also had the original Evo 4G for two years wating on the SIII to come out.
At this point, you might as well wait for the SIV to use your upgrade option. Shop around for deals on SIII online and you might just be able to snag both phones.
It is an amazing phone though. I can say with confidence that i'll keep it until I get a good deal on a SIV, after the first few months after the launch date.
Well after talking with Sprint Employee Account (I'm on a SERO-P plan), they offered me $75 off my bill for the next two months to effectively make the S3 $50. I went ahead and took the plunge! I should have the phone tomorrow.

I think you made the right choice! You will be really happy with this phone. I rooted mine the first day I had it
I will not buy it because its size.. Im comfortable with my S2

Just get the s3. Still a strong selling phone. Stay away from HTC. They tend to stop updates to there phones after they have been out for a short time. I don't think the note3 will be out anytime soon since the note2 just came out. S4 won't be out until sometime next year probably.

I decided to go ahead and take the plunge for the S3. I was eligible for the early upgrade and I had the Buy Back program from Best Buy. If I waited for the "next" phone I would have lost the Buy Back. Turned out the S3 was $99 and the Buy Back gave me $130 on my old Epic 4G, so I made out pretty well. Got the phone and had some left over cash to use on a case.
I bought an s4 than added jump a few weeks later when it came out. If I buy a note 3 now for full price and use the jump upgrade on the nexus 5 in November or December will I have to turn in the note 3? Or can I turn in the s4?
Probably best to call and ask tmobile imo.

I'm guessing it's gona have to be the s4.. The jump program most likely sticks to the phone that the program was put in

My question is.. Why would you get a note 3 if you have a s4.. Not really much of an upgrade

The JUMP is tied to the phone you had when you activated the program. So it's tied to your S4.

It's a completely different phone. The features offered by the S-Pen put both devices in different categories. But even based on specs it is an upgrade. Bigger screen, bigger battery, fastest processor and it has the S-Pen.

Yes, when you JUMP to a new phone you have to give them back your current phone. You won't be able to JUMP to a new device in November or December because when you initially sign up you have to wait 6 months before you use your first JUMP, after that you can do it whenever you want (probably within reason).

Honestly, the S4 was a downgrade compared to the Note 2. I wish I didn't have to get rid of my Note 2. (Was on Sprint so it's self explanatory).
Plus.
S4 has 4.2, Note 3 has 4.3
Which is nice seeing as though our S4's havent had a firmware update.

The way it has been explained to me is that the JUMP program is just an enhanced insurance. It is to cover the remaining balance of the cost of the current phone you have bought from TMobile under this new insurance plan (JUMP). If you pay off the phone, you can keep that phone and get a new one in 6 month. If you don't pay off the phone, the JUMP will kick in and pay off the balance (thus turning in the phone as an asset since they are paying for the balance). Same as if you loose your phone, you'll still have to pay a deductible as per regular insurance program and then you can JUMP to a new phone there after (every 6 months).

That's exactly what it is..
& as for the earlier comment about the s4 being a downgrade from the note 2.. it's all personal preference, i use to have one so i guess i could have some say.. but i saw it as a small upgrade. look at it this way, you had a bigger screen, that's unconfortable to use for long periods of time with one hand even if you have huge gorilla hands like myself, takes up alot of room in your pocket. & you know darn well you almost never use that darn s pen except to show off to others... i could go on and on but that'll call for another thread.

If you pay off the phone couldn't you just jump at any time even if your within the first 6 months? Since you don't have an installment plan.
