[Q] VoIP - HTC One X

Does anyone know if the HOX has VoIP enabled in ICS?
You can check it in phone settings.

Yes, it has!
In the phone settings you can insert your voip account. Didn't tried yet.

Good to see it stock being enabled in 4.x. Let's hope the quality is good.

ATT Voice and Data together Problem

Since I installed a custom ROM, I have not been able to use data and voice at the same time when on 3G. I made sure that my settings was set for ATT and have not changed from the stock radio.
any ideas?

You need one of the dialers that will allow this, either the ATT dialer ( have not seen a cab for it) or the 2g leo dialer.

huh, that's interesting. can anyone clarify why the rom needs a seperate dialer to accomplish this? I don't understand the mechanism or restriction. either way, i'll search for att dialer but in the meantime, anyone care to post?
thanks!

The reason being that the other networks do not allow voice and data at the same time so the dialers are set to cancel the data connection when a call comes in so you dont miss calls

i see...that simple huh....so if i install the dialer you mentioned, will it'll work in 3g right? because i thought you couldn't do both in edge. and is the dialer just working in the background or will it change anything noticable? thanks for your help!

Yes you need 3g to do both. The reason it is called a 2g dialer is due to no video calling in the dialer. it will change the look of the dialer due to being a different one. no prob
I'm also in ATT network, using NRG Phoenix Rom (Jan 15, Standard, v.21889) and using 4.49.25.88 radio. Did a quick test yesterday by starting a download from mediafire and then calling my own number from another line, and had no problem finishing the download. I couldn't notice if downloading was interrupted during the phone call, but I don't think Mediafire supports pausing a download.
So maybe the issue is something different than the dialer.

The easiest way to test this is to make a call to say your voice mail and then try to connect to the internet or receive email

can you please try and post what happens when you dial someone, connect the call, then try and initiate a data connection such as opera? I think initiating is a problem. I've also had opera open, received a call, then been unable to use data. So in that case, the phone was already connected to data then added voice, and then lost data...so maybe still the dialer?
I'm going to likely flash to a new version of energy this weekend so maybe that'll take well and get rid of the issue. In the meantime, i'll try the dialer and post back if that helped.

does this dialer function the same, that is, does it still allow >2 party conference call feature? that's probably the most important feature of this for me as a business phone....i've got a 4 way conference call this evening and don't want to install the dialer today if I risk losing that function.

[Q] Skype Video

Funny how the blogs posted a article today saying the skype app was updated to include video calling on many phones including the incredible S. however, I didn't see the 2. I thought thye were nearly the same phones? does it make sense why they would release it on the S and not the dinc2?
From the app description in the market:
Some notes:
If you're using Android 2.2 (Froyo) or greater on a device not listed in the What's New section, you should still be able to enable video calling in Skype settings. Please note that video call quality may not be as good as on a certified device.
On Android 2.2 (Froyo), only the back camera will work. This is because only devices running Android OS 2.3 or higher allow apps to access the front facing camera.
If the setting to enable video calling is not available in the Skype Settings on your device that means video calling is not yet supported on your phone.

I tested this on my own inc 2 and it worked with no real issues whatsoever.

i have 2.3.3 on my phone, GB OTA update. no root. my phone has skype 2.1.0.46 on it right now, and i'm not seeing anywhere for video. When you got it working, is it just mobile to mobile video, or can you do a mobile to desktop video?

I tested with mobile-to-desktop.
Make sure you're using the Skype from the market and not the pre-loaded one named Skype for Verizon. Go into the settings and the last section is labeled "Video calls." There should be an option that says "Enable video calling." I had to manually enable it.

well IMAGINE that... i just had to go to settings to enable the video call. it gave me some warnign message, but let me enable it. i did just try my dinc2 to my macbook, didn't work, but im going to try with another mobile. when chatting with the macbook, on the dinc2 it lets me click the video button, but it goes to a black screen for a second, then comes back to the menu, so its probably crashing the program on the phone... probably cause its chatting with a mac

VOIP/SIP calls with native ICS client

we recently found out that ics allows native voip calling, which is awesome if you want to save craploads of money. but did anyone here ever manage to get it working? the problem is that i hear nothing, the receiver can hear me just fine.
it's so weird because all third party clients i tried work flawlessly, csipsimple for instance. this app in particular is really, really nice, but it muddles ics with that gingerbread look, i'd prefer the native client if it only worked. so there must be something im doing wrong. but what?
It could be a lot of things that have been setup wrongly or your voip provider doesn't allow it.
For me, I have it working perfectly on gnex. The provider I am using is poivy (poivy.com).
They provide details of how to setup their service in voip capable devices. I simply copied the values from the info page they provided and was able to make it work after some failed attempts.
I found that there is a tricky part in process where you have to setup the Optional Settings in the SIP Account Details. I had to enter the Authentication username. Its simply your user name as you entered it in the Username field in the same settings page above the Optional Settings. Its seems odd to have the user name entered twice but that did for me.
If all fails, try setting up an account at poivy.com, they give you free calls to US numbers. That would iron out that your provider doesn't allow you to setup a voip on something other than the software they provide.
Let me know if u need more details or help...

im mostly using wifi so the provider can go screw itself, but i tested it outside the building with csipsimple and luckily it works, phew. its only this google thing that i could never get to work ... i mean the data is fine, it finds my account and the call goes through, but its of no use since the receiver does not hear a thing, i hear him though. i researched before and overread something about "it uses the wrong mic" and there was talk about a fix, but i couldn't find something concrete.
I use this and it works, but it’s a very bare-bones SIP client and doesn’t implement the SIP standards as well as other SIP clients. I hope Google pays attention to this feature and makes it more robust going forward.
I see, at least its not totally broken lol. Which version of ICS you are running? I am on 4.03 (Custom rom, Roman's AOKP M4) and have tested it with two sip accounts and it works just fine...
let me know if you need anything else.
cheers
im on aokp b28. i tried it with two handsets, nexus & s2. speaking works, the call receiver hears, but i get nothing back, i hear nothing. i tried it with intervoip and voipcheap.

Try speaker mode, screen off could be trimming back your throughput
well, as it turns out nothing works anymore from today on, not even csipsimple, which always did work fine. in my frustration i downloaded a crappy looking client from the providers webpage that gives me forceclosures every now and then, but that one does the job somehow. maybe they changed something in the protocol or something, who knows. still, thank you all so much!
I just purchased the VoIP service from VoIP.ms and it works flawlessly with the built-in sip feature on my galaxy nexus.
If Dell Voice worked with my Bluetooth headset, I would have stuck with it, but VoIP.ms is working so well, a few bucks a month is worth the extra features and built-in stability.
maybe it has somthing to do with how my wifi is configured but whatever i tried i couldnt get it to work. very strange.

Sometimes firewalls will block the ports needed for voip. Have you tried on a different wireless network or your data plan?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
it works with 3rd party apps, well, one worked, the app from the provider itself. i think i blew a couple of bucks already with all the trying, i'll just pass on this. it would be nice to use the native ics feature but i don't see what im doing wrong there. the account-data is right, the connection is made, i hear the receiver but he cant hear me. i tried it with two phones under two wifi configs and it never changed. im starting to think maybe its the voip provider wanting to push its own app, maybe they made something to prevent other apps from working properly. not even csipsimple worked although i never had problems with it on other providers. but this one is so damn good for mobile connections, calls here cost normaly 20-25 cent/min, now im paying 2 ... so i'll take the ugly gingerbread plugin for now.
Is there a difference when using the Native ICS VOIP or something like GrooveIP?
I use my Inc 2 as pseudo landline with SIP calling. Google Voice and PBXes is how I did it. Really simple actually since you can have sipdroid make a gtalk truck with your Google voice. Everything else that needs to be done is the trunk password needs to be your Google password and you need to setup inbound and outbound routing to the proper extension. Then setup internet calling to point to your pbxes account and make sure it connects. And inbound and outbound calling to and from your Google voice number works just as if it were an activated phone.

Just wondering. I have been using native SIP function on my SGS2 with voip.ms service as well. I am running a modded AOSP version of ICS and I noticed if I set to keep alive I find the battery drains heavy. Like 8%/hour with no use. This is the only way to ensure I have no missed calls. In battery stats it shows that Android OS is the culprit.
Are you finding that your battery drains faster also?
When I use Dell Voice I have no battery drain issues at all.

I don’t have this issue using the stock ROM on the GN—and I always send keep-alives 24/7. That said, I tend to be near Wi-Fi most of this day, so I don’t know if this has something to do with it.

When I use Dell Voice or any other sip client like csip this does not happen.

Use an app like betterbatterystats and see if you have any rogue wakelocks.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
all voip services that ive tried on my galaxy s3 with "receive calls" enabled will prevent the phone from going into deep sleep. Makes sense because the SIP client needs to contact the SIP server every 30 seconds or so otherwise the SIP server will drop the client. (as i understand it)
Groove IP doesnt wakelock the phone, but I dont like the backend. That is, you can only have one client logged into google chat (which is how groove ip works) at a time. Also it does not support 911 services. both huge issues for any serious investment
SIP is much more flexible aside from the wakelock requirement

So I'm noticing that I am not able to receive incoming calls. When someone calls me it rings and goes to voicemail but doesn't show anything on my end. I'm on Verizon with a nano sim card and have BL unlocked with root and pure nexus ROM. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance

Maybe you have recently installed any apps that would cause the issue. I am with T-Mobile and don't know if some of the settings are the same, but you can check under cellular>access point names. Once you tap on the one that is selected, scroll down to "APN protocol:" and play with settings by setting it to IPv4, iPv6 or both IPv4/IPv6, saving after each change, calling your phone. If won't work, then try to reset network settings - could be under "backup and restore"
Still didn't help. Any other ideas? Could I get or download google voice and could that solve this issue?

Another person with totally different phone, had an issue few months ago and we found an issue which was google voice, but in your case, it seems something else. Did you get any OTA update recently? Also do you have Wi-Fi calling on?
Haven't had any update since the beginning of November for security update and do not have WiFi calling on
have you tried rebooting the phone? are you able to make any outbound calls?
I have tried rebooting. Removing sim and reinstalling sim. Everything works as for as text messages incoming and outgoing. I can call out just no incoming calls.
Is there an issue with the sim? You don't have "do not disturb" on, do you? Have you dug through the settings of your custom ROM to make sure some sort of call blocking feature isn't enabled?
No problem with my sim its brand new and have not messed with any call settings in my ROM that'd mess with phone setting and do not have the "do not disturb" setting on either. I did a lot of research last night and I was seeing that the nexus 5 also had something similar but was fixed in 4.2 I believe. Possibly could it be that I'm still on 6.0 and not on 6.0.1?
Does anyone else have Verizon and can tell me wat APN theirs is set to?

How about pressing "Reset to Default" on the APN menu? Settings/Cellular Networks/Access Point Name then tap the three dots on the top right.
Also, did you match the bootloader, radio, and everything else with your rom base? 6.0 to 6.0, 6.0.1 to 6.0.1.

All things considered, you may want to flash stock, root, then put on Pure Nexus again and see if that issue is still there. If no one else is having the issue, it's gotta be something that can be easily resolved on your end.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
is it possible that when I flashed it, I also flashed a vendor.img could that have made this happen if it doesn't the right one?
your best best would be to flash to stock then see if the issue persists, if not, flash your rom then check again, if the issue crops up again after flashing your rom you will then know where your problem lies.
Flash back to stock last night issue was still present. Chatted with Verizon this morning and the rep said it was my sim card. Some how it became inactive. So went to Verizon the store got a quick this isn't a Verizon phone told them its a Google phone that will work with Verizon and them activated a new sim and now its working. Thanks to all that tried to help me try and fix it.

Thanks
5g working, and actually the whole phone thing just started working too. I disabled the native dialer, made Google dialer default, and restarted. I'll leave it here in case someone has the same issue.
But also - how do I change apn settings I can't find it on this phone?

BTW, your not getting 5g, its just the icon.
To change the APN settings, you go to Dual Cards and Mobile Networks -> More (Under the active sim card) -> Access Point Names.
That said, I changed dialers, changed my APN settings, and restarted. No luck..

I just paired my wireless earbuds to them and I am able to actually hold a conversation with someone with no problem.
I don't think it's a mic issue either, as I was able to test it successfully through Parrot and Discord with and without the earbuds. I suppose this is what I'll be rolling with for the time being until this can get figured out. :/
EDIT: Made a new observation! After pairing the bluetooth earbuds to the phone and then disconnecting them, I was able to use the phone normally. However, turning the phone off will essentially cause the same issue as before. One step forward, I suppose.

GUYS THE FIX IS COMMON TO DUAL SIM ANDROID 10 DEVICES - insert the SIM card into slot #2 (the bottom one). Reboot. Magic, it's fixed.
Thank me now that your phone works properly please. I'm the ONLY developer on the phone at the moment and that really sucks. If I could get ANY help from anyone in this community I could move mountains...
If you guys having issue with the mic during call, hit the hands free button 2 times that should fix your mic.

Thank you. Made a quick call to MetroPCS and swapped my SIM. It's working successfully now.
Fixed, partially some how
I had the same problem, when i call, i can hear the other person very well but they can't hear me. Sometimes also the call drops automatically. I tried the fix of switching the sim to slot 2, it did not work but it solved another issue where some of my other devices could not connect to 5ghz hotspot although they support 5ghz band. Now back to the mic not working during calls, the problem does not occur if i recieve calls, and it happens with some outgoing calls, not all. My 5g is enabled and working fine. It only happens with iphones. It did not happen with any other phone. I tried with some friends iphones to disable the VOLTE and problem solved. So every time i call someone and the mic dont work, i ask if they r using iphones and the answer is always yes. I tell them to disable the VOLTE everytime. I hope there is a common fix from the Red Magic side as its not practical to keep asking iphone users to disable VOLTE. I hope this helps.
