All,
I have a big problem. When I try to start my phone I get the black screen with google and the unlocked padloack, after which the screen goes dark and nothing happens anymore.
What I did before this are two things. I had been mukking around with the screen resolution (I had it set at 240 and 280, as some apps did not show up in the market) also downloaded LCD density to solve the market issue.
I then rebooted the device and entered CWM to do a backup which as far as I knew succeeded. unfortunately after rebooting, see the above.
I have tried a couple of reboots, tried restoring the nandroid (the above was the only one I had). that didn't work, so tried to connect to the PC to load a new ICS rom (original 4.0.4 by google), unfortunately my device can not go into USB mode in CMW (it comes up with UMS lunfile missing....)
so I am woring in circles. can't start the device to download a rom, can't open USM to load a ROM to start the device again.....
any help would be appriciated
thanks
Patrick
hey
flash a new ROM via fastboot then, there are enough guides
-Syn
Edit: Alternatively, flash the stock Google ROM via GNex toolkit and go from scratch.
as mentioned, I can't get a rom on the phone so that I can flash it.
I can't start the phone to donwload one, and can't connect it to usb to get one on the storage....
sorry, you mentioned fastboot.... not USB.
so connect it to usb cable. I then entered fastboot devices, no number came up, as was also the case with ADB. thinkin I might not have the correct USB drivers for my windows machine. any idea where to get teh correct one?

To flash stock images the files are on your PC, not the phone.
If you can get the phone to boot into fastboot (via vol up + vol dn + power) and get your PC to recognize it you're good to go.
thats the issue. pc cannot recognize the phone, so cannot get any files from the PC to the phone (ie. cannot get a rom file to the phone...)

Either directly from Samsung or download the GNex Toolkit (You might want to use it anyways to flash the stock image), the drivers come with it.
After you installed the drivers and have you phone plugged in, go to the device manager to check if it is connected properly.

For the drivers, I would recommend you remove all old drivers and install these. If you don't know how to install them, or are having issues, look here.

I had a similar issue with regard to my PC recognizing the drivers. I googled around and found that people were having success with installing the PdaNet drivers, so maybe you can try that too. I had installed the Android SDK as well as the PdaNet drivers, and I eventually got mine to work.
I would probably follow Efrant's links first though - if that doesn't work for you, then maybe you can try PdaNet drivers and/or installing the SDK.
Good luck.
Why not just do a factory reset from within recovery?

the factory reset didn't help, the phone just wouldn't go past the black lockscreen. So in the end I used the galaxy nexus toolkit. installed the drivers for the PC, was able to go through fastboot and push files and flash a new rom.
Al is now solved, just need to do a lot of work to bring the phone back to where it was and make a backup asap.
thansk all for the help!

To enable USB debugging, go to settings>about phone>tap on the build number 7 times. It will tell you "you are now a developer" and your will have USB debugging back
As far as your driver issues go, it sounds like you only installed fastboot drivers and not the regular drivers. Or somehow the regular drivers got deleted. If it was me, I would try rebooting my computer and phone. If that doesn't work, run the driver setup wizard in the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit. The first part of that process is deleting old drivers. It does a very thorough walkthrough on how to do that.

Try connecting your GNex to PC while in recovery mode then use ADB to push any ROM from PC to your /sdcard/ of your GNex in order to flash it.
At worst case, I think you can use a fastboot image to flash your GNex via fastboot.

Now i running nothing, pratically i formatted all internal data because i would use the 4.2.1 version that is on my pc, after the format the computer does not recognize my cellular phone, so atm i don't have any rom on my phone and now i don't know how i can solve that, it could be easy if i can browse the phone on computer

Ok I think my samsung galaxy nexus maguro is soft bricked. I can get to the odin screen, I can get to the TWRP screen, and I can get to the bootloader screen, but for the life of me I can not get it to talk over the usb. I have downloaded the Samsung USB Drivers, Ive tried Kies, I ve tried them both separately installed, I've tried them installed toether. I've even tried running it on another computer. I've tried the Universal Nexus Linux Toolkit on Ubuntu. I've gone through 6 different cables, and although I do not have the actual cable that came with this phone, I have tried an actual samsung mobile phone data cable and I can not get the computer to recognize the device.
Does anyone have any ideas?:fingers-crossed:
I'd even be willing to hear off the wall ideas at this point. It is not useable in the state that its in.

use adb sideload or flash from recovery.
set up correctly adb & fastboot in pc. boot to recovery first, command ~ adb devices * to check your devices is connected or not.
should be no problem if u still have custom recovery installed.
are u using ubuntu or window??
or use odin here~

You can factory reset your phone and if this does not solve your problem the use wugfresh nexus root toolkit
a) If you can still get the device into fastboot mode try to flash the partitions with fastboot (grab the stock images from the google developers page and flash them partition by partition). You can also flash the recovery with fastboot.
b) There is an open source odin implementation called heimdall. But you should be extremly cautious before trying that one. You may also find original odin copies. But YMMV and those tools come with some risk.
Make sure you've got a reliable usb connection to your phone. Charge your phone if possible (or charge the battery with a working phone / external charger first).
Hello, I'm the new guy, kind of (I'm new to this forum but somewhat a technological handyman, so to speak).
I had recently obtained a Samsung Galaxy Ace II, everything was going good on the phone, hell, it's what? Two years old now? Anyway, I noticed the immense trouble I've been having trying to get several Windows PCs/laptops to detect anything from the phone, no driver updates, installations, not even from the trustworthy SAMSUNG Kies application. It is becoming a real problem as I really want to keep this phone, root it, installing several ROMs as I go along, but no, the computers won't even allow me to access the contents of my SD card through USB.
(Note: I have manually downloaded and installed SAMSUNG USB drivers and pooft, still nothing!)
I have tried quite a few methods to allow the PCs to establish a connection with the phone e.g. Dialing "*#7284#*, accessing "PhoneUtil", choosing "PDA" as the good mode, even switching to "MODEM" then back to "PDA"; Uninstalling/Reinstalling drivers; Attempting Kies.
I guess I am on the look out for a new-ish phone to replace this, which saddens me as I love being able to root, install various ROMs, Kernels etc, personally I like this phone too, more than my Spica running ICS (couldn't be too hard though, it wasn't stable whatsoever).
If anyone on this board could find a solution to this problem for me, I would be ever so grateful, I don't doubt it though, I love the work of XDA. Thank you.
Turn off the phone with no cable attached, press volume down, home and power at the same time and then volume up to put it in ODIN mode and connect it to the PC (use windows vista or newer so it auto installs the driver) It should install something like Samsung USB serial device. Tell if it works
Do I have to load it into ODIN mode whilst Odin is running on my PC?

For this test you dont need ODIN on the PC. Its only to see if the PC recognizes the phone

I just tested this and it appears not to be working, whatsoever. Is it necessary to have all SAMSUNG USB drivers installed on the PC?
Thank you for the idea, though. I just really want to root/mod my phone, ugh.

Windows should auto install the drivers. Connect the phone to the PC and see in device manager if there is something like an unknoen device or Samsung USB device

Thank you for the help, although my problem is not dealt with still. I have completed the steps that you had suggested, thoroughly and repeatedly, yet there is no hope for a permanent, or even temporary fix for my mobile.
Windows isn't displaying any correlation between my PC and phone, no driver software auto-installs and no sign of the device being located in the Device Manager, not even under an "Unknown device".
Is this a problem for most Ace II devices? Or am I missing something that is too obvious to consider so seriously?
Porobu once told me something like:
1. Uninstall kies and sammy usb drivers
2. Install kies again, it should promt to install USB drivers.
3. Plug in phone to pc in DL mode.
I'm not sure what you mean in your 1st post so im assuming you have yet to try this. Works for me
When do I plug the USB into the phone and boot my phone into download mode? As soon as the drivers are installed via Kies?

After kies installation complete(dont have to open), boot phone to download mode, connect to cable and plug to pc
It sounds like a broken microusb port but try something first.
Download ubuntu or any other live cd linux distro
Boot it on your pc. You dont need to install anything.
Open a terminal
*Plug the phone while it is turned on to the PC
Write in the terminal 'lsusb' without the quotes and press enter
Something like Samsung android device or MTP device should appear.
If it doesnt appear power off the phone and go to odin mode and repeat from the * the steps
my oneplus 3 does not connect to my pc. I have tried turning on and off developer options, turn off and on oem unlocking and usb debugging. I change the usb connection to mtp from charging but does not change. Also does not recognize it when i connect to pc. Also does not pop up on status bar and i checked portable devices. I also tried installing the oneplus drivers. i am on Android 7.0 freedomos-2.5. Any way to fix this issue? i might try to update freedomos because im on a old version of it.:crying:
Windows? If, yes windows drivers are the problem.
Try to other pc, to see if it works., first.

i have also done some research that you should update your drivers from device manager. I dont see anything related to my device. i went to portable devices nothing and i dont have a other devices section in device manager. Any help?
What recovery?
Try to flash latest twrp. I use blu-spark by eng-stk. You can fla**** thru recovery or Flashify app.

ive also found out theres no kedcom driver when i go to fastboot. i even reinstalled adb drivers to insure its there but it does not pop up.
You'll need to remove drivers reboot, install correct drivers, reboot and then be nice to everyone you ever meet and it'll show up. It's a real pain but you can get there. XDA tutorial all the way there!
I once have kind of youre problem connecting to my laptop (win.10). But, at work, on that laptop, connection was ok (win.7).
I reinstal windows 10 and connection works fine, since.
I allways use latest TWRP & version of rom. I can't tell for sure what it's goin on with youre phone.
If i was in youre situation i format my phone (this will erase ALL in youre phone). And if PC still does not see the phone reinstall windows.
Also: Try a different cable.
A cheap cable could have a charging pin layout but lack data pins connections.
9 out of 10 issues with connecting to PC and getting odd behaviours is due to a bad/wrong cable.

Driver issues win 10
Find the excellent tutorial here on drivers.
For some reason my phone didn't show up but was able to receive commands. It was frustrating because I wanted to use the all in one XDA product but couldn't.
Even if you installed drivers they can be broken!
Do drivers from scratch per xda tutorial. Don't forget reboot!
Try different cables and usb ports! My front ones never seem to work!
Don't just try fastboot commands also try adb. Like I said mine wasn't seen properly yet it took the commands.
Unless your windows is a years old install it shouldn't require reinstall.
Factory phone reset might help.
Best of luck!
This may be a huge one. Someone accidently resetted my phone. Now i had to start from the start menu. When I connect the wifi after it gets stuck on "checking for updates." So then I wanted to reinstall the rom from via twrp. Now I find out im stuck on this because I have no back up and no extra roms to flash. So I tried to connect to my pc but my phone has issues with connecting on pc. It does not even show up on device manager. No unknown devices no exclamation point. Only way I know it connected is when I disconnect it makes a disconnect sound. Any help? I tried fastboot its a no go, adb sideload just loops on loading, and just recovery and it does not work. Any help please I need this fixed asap.
try to connect on usb2 port. I have similar problems when connected to usb 3 port on laptop or desktop.

Delete all the installed drivers relating to the phone and then connect the phone. Necessary drivers will be installed. If not solved, try another PC, cable, USB port etc.
usbdeview from nirsoft might help you to clean your driver.
When you connect your phone to your computer, is it on fastboot or on recovery ?
You should grab adb and fastboot driver (i'll upload them if needed), go to fastboot and plug your phone.
If you type from command line fastboot devices you should see your devices. If not, driver issue.
If you see it, then flash the official recovery : fastboot flash PathToRecovery\name_of_recovery.img, then sideload latest OB through OP recovery.
I don't know if its the faster option, but its easy as f*ck with that way to come back nearly stock. After that, you could flash twrp and the rom you want.

Get back to stock and don't use mod, or use a stable ROM. Nitrogen 9.0 ROM havn't got issue with sound.
