[Q] Is There a way to get a verizon prl to get better 3g radio signal - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Where i work all my co-workers have verizon and they get a signal no problem is there a way i can improve my Epic Touch 4G signal by changing the prl to use verizons radio just for the calls ? Thanks

Yes, I have the Sprint PRL 11115 on my phone now that allows me to toggle between Sprint and Verizon.
OR you could go with the 00001 which is Verizon only.

My friend claims he used 00001 to get his service terminated so he could go to AT&T without paying the ETF fee. *Shrug*

What exactly do you mean "Toggle between verizon and sprint"?

Meaning he uses the app roam control (not available in the market) to force roam on Verizon's network when he so chooses.

Correct. And I'll be honest and say I find himself just staying on Verizon lately. I'm so sick of the SLOW Sprint data. What is the freaking point of "Unlimited" if it never works?
I'd rather have 3 or 5GB of data on AT&T that actually WORKS fast then Sprint's so called false advertising slow crap network. It's a shame too, I'm a 10+ year customer. The speed was good at one point then all the sudden it went to crap. I'm so sorry I renewed. Verizon is a little better though. I just leave Roam Control set to Roam Only until I figure out what I wanna do.

[Q] HTC Evo 4g

First I am curious as I did not see the Evo 4g listed as a phone in the forum column titles. I saw the shift and the 3d. Are they the same?
My question was this. I have an Evo 4g that I used with sprint. I have switched to Verizon and I am wondering it the phone can be formatted to use on the verizon network? What is involved?
Any help greatly appreciated.
It's there, its called HTC Supersonic:Evo 4g.

You cannot activate an evo on verizon's network. Not possible. You can however, run the Verizon PRL. You will still have to pay Sprint for service, but your phone will run off of verizon's towers. Keep in mind though, if you are roaming more than 50% of the time, sprint will likely kick you off their network, and force you to pay the etf. It's not really meant to be run full-time. I run it once in a while when I'm in places where sprint doesnt get service, but verizon does.
Wow! I did not know. And sprint coverage sucks bad. Still I was on a corporate plan w/wife and the airtime charges were adding up so I had to switch. I went with Iphone 4 but wondering if I should switch. So I was just trying to figure out how to keep the Iphone and have a 4g option also...
There is so much information here. Good site.
I did think they were the same type CDMA network though. Am I misinformed?

A must have app that's no longer in the market.

Roam Control. Here is the link if anyone was looking for this great app

It currently supports HTC and Samsung phones, and it is geared towards Sprint users.

LOL so true. You have to roam to get any kind of usable data on Sprint.

No it just locks your phone to regular 1x roaming.
I also noticed when i used this, that if i do a whatismyip i am actually still on sprint
Even if we use custom PRL like 11115? I had 1.70 installed, just updated/downgraded to this one. Good thing for Titanium BackUp!
EDIT...on the 11115 PRL you can still roam 3G. 11115 PRL is a Sprint PRL for Business lines that allow roaming on 3G.

You are incorrect.
Roam Control does not decide whether you roam 1x or 3g. Your roaming data speed is governed by your PRL and/or the roaming agreements Sprint has with other carriers.
For example, in northern Wisconsin, Sprint has a full 3G roaming agreement with Alltel which was maintained because Verizon was forced to divest those towers to Cellcom. This is available to all Sprint customers. In southern Wisconsin, you are able to get a "corporate" PRL (like 11115), which enables 3g roaming.
In other states, where roaming is on Verizon, Sprint forces 1x roaming, and the only way around it is to use a hacked Verizon PRL.
Roam Control is a fantastic program that works perfectly for me, but I'm fortunate to be in a valid 3G roaming zone!

I've never heard of anyone roaming naturally (when sprint signal is nonexistent) on anything higher than 1x and without a hacked verizon prl. I only use Roam Control at work, where Sprint signal is so low, the radio drains the battery 10 times faster than normal. And it works great.
But sure, here.
I'll rephrase:
Unless you are already able to roam on 3G w/o Roam Control, Roam Control will let roam at 1x only. It is not a substitute for using a hacked/business PRL which allows 3G roaming.
nvm..........

Ok, I have poor signal at one of my workplaces and am interested in this program. Do you set it on "Roam only" when you get to work? And what's the difference between "Automatic" mode on Roam Control vs. just letting your phone decide whether it will roam or not?

on automatic you will stay on sprint even registering zero bars but having "1/2" bars worth of sprint... even if you have 5 on VZ other. roam only is exactly what it says, and im not sure theres anywhere there would be an advantage to sprint only... a joke maybe? MrGreg has a thread somewhere on xda too... hes really good w responsing to questions/issues. best app ive ever had.
i am not sure what this does. so if my signal is non existant on 3g or 1x then this will allow me to jump to a different carrier? running blazer with el26 modem and the rouge el29kernal.

If your Sprint signal is low and this drains your battery (which is almost always the case), you have a choice to roam on a different network, whose signal is usually much stronger. You lose the bandwidth (from 3g to 1x - 2.5mbps to 128kbps), but you will improve the battery life (compared to losing something like 10% battery an hour in idle).
I usually only lose about 1% battery per hour with 3+ Sprint bars of signal. But at work, my signal is 0-1 bars, and the battery loss is close to 10% per hour.
By using Roam Control and setting it to roam only, I can have normal battery drain - 1% an hour.
I personally have never got this dang thing to work. When I select Roam Only, it just chills on Sprint's network still. I can be roaming (just by chance), then try 'Sprint Only' and nothing... stays in roaming.
I would love it if this worked though because I am on PRL 11115 and should be able to get 3G + I get better VZ signal in my apt. anyways.
Anyone have suggestions on what I may be doing wrong? I select Samsung in the options.

Purchased the new version (updated server) off his website and with PRL 11115 this works like a charm with 3G roaming. Works great where the network is so saturated it is unusable with speeds on VZW ~1000kbps.

May I ask your setup?
I am on Calk's 2.8, EL26 modem I get nothing. Does it automatically switch for you pretty quick? God, my Sprint signal blows balls here. Plus, when I do get my phone to roam, i get almost full bars and fast vzw 3g speeds. So, I know the PRL and all allows it, but missing something here.

All I can say is when I was running the stock PRL that came with the phone, I indeed had 3G roaming in northern Wisconsin (although it was rev A, not rev 0) and was fast enough to comfortably use Netflix.

I've noticed on Calk's ROMs that after selecting a new state (automatic to Roam Only, or Roam Only to Automatic), about half the time the change won't take until I reboot the phone. Usually, when this happens, I'll get force closes for the phone process.
Try rebooting after changing the state and see if that works for you.

Calk's 2.7 EL26. Radio responds instantly (LOS ==> VZW) and 3G is indicated within 8 seconds usually. I have seen information in other threads about Samsung not roaming in 3G due to a lack of PCS band. However if it is not switching at all that probably does not apply.

[Q] What Exactly is data roaming?

I know im going to sound like a noob right now but oh well. I Never understood what roaming really is, Can someone explain it to me? I saw some threads about people hacking the prl to verizon and people getting faster speeds?. I have the unlimited plan. Will sprint charge me for roaming? My sprint 3g is crap and we don't have 4g here where i live. I'm running CM9 alpha 2. How can i hack the prl to verizon on this rom.

Data roaming is using data from another cellular network, when outside of your service providers network area. Sprint allows unlimited roaming (as far as I know) with a catch, when a certain amount of data is exceeded they can terminate your account. A prl is a preferred roaming list, it chooses what towers your phone will connect to first which will determine speeds and service. If you install a custom prl to your phone, you may get much better service, but depending on the prl you may be roaming (some prl's your phone will alert you for roaming, others may not) if you are, and you use data a lot, you may get terminated.
Thank you so much. I went ahead and hacked the prl. if i get terminated will i have to pay a termination fee or what ?

I don't think so but to be honest with you I'm not completely sure what they do, as far as I know they just terminate your contract which is good if you don't like Sprint but you may not be able to ever sign up with them again. Are you getting better speeds now?

[Q] PRL

I am waiting to get this phone because I need to be able to roam off Verizons 3G in my area. Therefore I need a proven method that allows me to switch my PRL to a corporate PRL. Anyone figure out a working way for this yet?

Oh and the3rd's link is still fantastic for the "how to" part.
Just be careful not to roam on verizon too much. You dont want sprint canceling your service.

Thinking of going to Sprint from Verizon.

Sprint now offers 4g lte in my area and really would like to have unlimited data again. Verizon put me on 4gb data plan on which I now pay more and go through the data in no time. The largest and most reliable network is useless when you can't use it. So I'm going the Sprint unlimited data plan. Is there anything I should know about before switching our a reason as to why I would regret the switch? Im bringing my unlocked note 2.

If 4g is available in your area, I would say go for it! Sprint is actually a great provider.
Unless you have issue with VZ in your area and using more than the standard data cap, I would not suggest go to sprint at this ponit. (long time sprint user).
They are currently in the network transition and got so many crazy call-drop, data drop signal.
If no compelling reason, no need to switch.
Go for it. I did the same thing as u. Left Verizon wjen sprint got LTE in my area. Speeds are great and the devices have unlocked bootloader unlike Verizon that locks everything.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I would see how other sprint users like the service in your area. I'm in an area with LTE. I don't see nothing like Verzion's speeds, but it's still pretty good to get the highest bandrates for the services. You'll want to see if there are dead signal pockets in the area you frequent and so forth.
The service can be frustrating when they're working on the network. You'll see anything from really good bandwidth to can't get a connection. There was a good month where LTE was slower than 3G.
I like Sprint and have been with them for over ten years. They're not perfect, but still the quirks of Sprint, usually, don't bother me.
I had Verizon 4G then they did away with unlimited, now I have Sprint 3G
I'd rather have Sprint 3G unlimited than Verizon 4G limited.
I'm done with verizon and their phone lockdown policies as well. It's my phone I paid for I should be able to do with it as I will.
Verizon is the best service I have had to date; that's customer, call, and data. Only problem is that all that comes at a premium price. But if you have a good deal, a grandfathered plan, or can afford it, by all means stay with the best.
As for Sprint, they have been the very worse for me. Only good thing about them is unlimited data but even considering that, their data suck in my area. Customer service reps arent that bad but the company will gouge you at every opportinity. For me, they extended my contract without notifying me and when I went to change providers they told me I had to pay etf. Worse part about it, they said id have to get a court order to see where I agreed to contract extension. STAY AWAY FROM SPRINT!
Your unlocked Verizon Note 2 can't be activated on Sprint. If you can verify that Sprint has good 3G & LTE service where you live then I'd say definetely go for it because Sprint will not have unlimited data forever. If you wanr to save a lot of $$$ each month and you can tolerate the data problems in some places, then go for it. But you might want to wait till the Note 3 is released. That would be the time to switch.
Why can't my unlock note 2 be activated on Sprint?
CDMA phones are not locked in the same way GSM phones are. Sprint and Verizon limit the phones carrier use by their ESN. Your Verizon phone's ESN is not listed in the Sprint database. Therefore it cannot be activated on Sprint.
