No it just locks your phone to regular 1x roaming.

I also noticed when i used this, that if i do a whatismyip i am actually still on sprint

Even if we use custom PRL like 11115? I had 1.70 installed, just updated/downgraded to this one. Good thing for Titanium BackUp!
EDIT...on the 11115 PRL you can still roam 3G. 11115 PRL is a Sprint PRL for Business lines that allow roaming on 3G.

You are incorrect.
Roam Control does not decide whether you roam 1x or 3g. Your roaming data speed is governed by your PRL and/or the roaming agreements Sprint has with other carriers.
For example, in northern Wisconsin, Sprint has a full 3G roaming agreement with Alltel which was maintained because Verizon was forced to divest those towers to Cellcom. This is available to all Sprint customers. In southern Wisconsin, you are able to get a "corporate" PRL (like 11115), which enables 3g roaming.
In other states, where roaming is on Verizon, Sprint forces 1x roaming, and the only way around it is to use a hacked Verizon PRL.
Roam Control is a fantastic program that works perfectly for me, but I'm fortunate to be in a valid 3G roaming zone!

I've never heard of anyone roaming naturally (when sprint signal is nonexistent) on anything higher than 1x and without a hacked verizon prl. I only use Roam Control at work, where Sprint signal is so low, the radio drains the battery 10 times faster than normal. And it works great.
But sure, here.
I'll rephrase:
Unless you are already able to roam on 3G w/o Roam Control, Roam Control will let roam at 1x only. It is not a substitute for using a hacked/business PRL which allows 3G roaming.

nvm..........

Ok, I have poor signal at one of my workplaces and am interested in this program. Do you set it on "Roam only" when you get to work? And what's the difference between "Automatic" mode on Roam Control vs. just letting your phone decide whether it will roam or not?

on automatic you will stay on sprint even registering zero bars but having "1/2" bars worth of sprint... even if you have 5 on VZ other. roam only is exactly what it says, and im not sure theres anywhere there would be an advantage to sprint only... a joke maybe? MrGreg has a thread somewhere on xda too... hes really good w responsing to questions/issues. best app ive ever had.

If your Sprint signal is low and this drains your battery (which is almost always the case), you have a choice to roam on a different network, whose signal is usually much stronger. You lose the bandwidth (from 3g to 1x - 2.5mbps to 128kbps), but you will improve the battery life (compared to losing something like 10% battery an hour in idle).
I usually only lose about 1% battery per hour with 3+ Sprint bars of signal. But at work, my signal is 0-1 bars, and the battery loss is close to 10% per hour.
By using Roam Control and setting it to roam only, I can have normal battery drain - 1% an hour.

I personally have never got this dang thing to work. When I select Roam Only, it just chills on Sprint's network still. I can be roaming (just by chance), then try 'Sprint Only' and nothing... stays in roaming.
I would love it if this worked though because I am on PRL 11115 and should be able to get 3G + I get better VZ signal in my apt. anyways.
Anyone have suggestions on what I may be doing wrong? I select Samsung in the options.

Purchased the new version (updated server) off his website and with PRL 11115 this works like a charm with 3G roaming. Works great where the network is so saturated it is unusable with speeds on VZW ~1000kbps.

I am on Calk's 2.8, EL26 modem I get nothing. Does it automatically switch for you pretty quick? God, my Sprint signal blows balls here. Plus, when I do get my phone to roam, i get almost full bars and fast vzw 3g speeds. So, I know the PRL and all allows it, but missing something here.

All I can say is when I was running the stock PRL that came with the phone, I indeed had 3G roaming in northern Wisconsin (although it was rev A, not rev 0) and was fast enough to comfortably use Netflix.

I've noticed on Calk's ROMs that after selecting a new state (automatic to Roam Only, or Roam Only to Automatic), about half the time the change won't take until I reboot the phone. Usually, when this happens, I'll get force closes for the phone process.
Try rebooting after changing the state and see if that works for you.

Calk's 2.7 EL26. Radio responds instantly (LOS ==> VZW) and 3G is indicated within 8 seconds usually. I have seen information in other threads about Samsung not roaming in 3G due to a lack of PCS band. However if it is not switching at all that probably does not apply.

Actually, I was on the phone with Sprint a couple weeks ago and I inquired about data roaming. They confirmed what others have said in regards to data roaming cap---->300mb
Some have stated that they haven't been charged for anything in excess of that 300mb cap but sooner or later it's bound to catch up with them. My advice would be to lobby for a free Airave from Sprint if you live in a low signal area...
I cannot for the life of me get the 3G working with no roaming signal (using VERIZON mnvo service).
Is it possible to flash a radio from a similar phone (if any exist?) from Verizon to the EVO4G to make it all work out?

[Q] Remove roam tower from list on phone?

When I force roaming on my phone, it is connecting to a Cellular South tower instead of a Verizon tower, which would have a stronger signal. Is it possible to remove that Cellular South tower from the list of known towers on my phone so that it will connect to Verizon?
That'll require a prl edit I believe, which is above my head. But you could swap prls and find the one that works best for you. Check my Sig for a great thread on prl swapping.
What prl are you on now?
Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!
I'm on 60671 right now I believe. Do the Verizon PRLs in your signature only contain Verizon towers or is it Sprint towers plus Verizon towers?
Some are hybrid and some are just Verizon. I normally run 01337, and that puts me on Verizon 100%, but that just because there is barely a Sprint signal where I am. IMO, you can't go wrong with 00001 or 01337, just check to see what towers ur on mostly, if ur roaming too much, you can go back.
Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!
Oh, also, if you try those prl's, disable data roaming and pick Sprint only.
Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!
Once I load one of those PRLs on the phone, so I need to force the phone to roam to use a Verizon tower or does it trick the phone into thinking that the Verizon towers are part of the Home network? Also, should I enable or disable data roaming?
EDIT: Ha, you posted right before me and answered my questions. Thanks!

It's a trick, smoke and mirrors. Ur phone thinks ur on Sprint, but ur using whatever tower has the best signal for you. Instead of using the tower that's cheaper for Sprint. It's awesome as long as it works, some people have issues with lost connections, really depends on ur location.

PRL 11114

How do I use this to roam on to verizon's 3g network?
Anyone? I was under the impression that roaming onto verizon's 3g was the only benefit of 11114. Should I just switch to a normal prl?

What state r u in?
There are a few ( I can't remember which ones) that Sprint doesn't broadcast on a band that would allow for Roam Control to work. I know Florida is one of those states because I live there and NO Roam Control for me .
Edit:
From Roam Control; developers website:
Q: When I select "roam only", why does the phone have no signal?
A: Chances are you have a Samsung phone, right? Samsung phones have different behavior - when in "roam only", they only roam on the 800mhz frequency band. There are areas in the US that are 1900mhz only, which means that Samsung phones will not get a signal in those areas.
Most if not all of Florida falls under 1900mhz only. I believe parts of Texas is as well.
I live in Houston, TX the prl 11114 does not work for me. I use the normal prl 60890 or something like that from sprint.
Modded EVO 4G sending you this from the dark side of the moon.
I live in connecticut; regular roaming works just fine with roam control, I'm just unable to roam on 3g.

yeah well the best Sprint 3G I can get in my neighborhood is about .25 Mbps. And it's true for many parts of Manhattan, you can't crack .5 Mbps.

Actually in many areas, the PRL entry for Verizon is defined to search for Verizon 1x signal while also searching for Sprint EV signal. So you could actually be roaming on Verizon for voice, have the EV/3G indicator, but still be using Sprint for EV/3G data.
This can lead to even more confusion.

My Moment (August, anyway) was able to roam on 3G in northern Wisconsin. Of course, I believe that that part of AllTel went to Cellular One, not Verizon. That's probably the difference.
In fact, I often got better data speeds in the middle of the forest up north than I do at home in Milwaukee. I usually got 150-200kBs (bytes, not bits) whereas at home, I get 15-20kBs.

speed heavily depends on time and location
can be anywhere from 500kbs-1.5mbs but as slow as 200 if the tower is super hogged.

Damn I would kill for those speeds. In midtown manhattan and on 4G I can only get around 5mbps download (standing next to a window) and 350kbps download.
I can't even get 4G signal in my house downtown. I get only 1 or 2 bars for 3G unless I am standing next to a window.
I need to test the speed of the 3G next time I roam.
this is fps test. hope the pic works this time
From what I understand Verizon does not support 3G roaming with Sprint phones you will only get 1x service. 3G roaming was a deal with Alltel, who got bought out by Verizon and ATT. You are going to get crappy speeds if you are roaming on Verizon.

Two possibilities:
1) 11115 is not going to guarantee 3G roaming in all markets. Sprint only has 3G roaming for certain accounts in certain markets. No Sprint PRL will help you in those locations. You may just be in a location that Sprint does not have a 3G roaming agreement with anyone.
2) 11115 is a rather OLD PRL... It may be referring to 3G towers, but those towers may no longer be in service or have been reclassified in a roaming agreement to be 1x only.
That being said... 11115 provides 3G roaming in Milwaukee on my SG2, but 1x on my SG3. My SG3 gives me great 3G speeds on 12121.

If US Cellular isn't available at all, THEN is goes to Verizon.
