Anyone know how this app works?
If you select Automatic, how's does it work?
Does the app remain in the background monitoring stuff?
What's the difference between this app and the built-in roaming switch for the phone?
Do I need to manually select Roam within the app everytime I'm in a low signal area?
Is there a guide or manual for this app?
It seems like I can do the same things by simply going to the Roaming options in Settings. I really don't get this app and feel like I just wasted 5 bucks on it.

This app gives you the ability to only roam. The selection when you pick roaming through settings is inferior to this app because your phone still searches for sprint signal and usually gives you 1x data . When you want to roam just go to options select manufacturer and then go to main and select roam only. When you want to switch back just select automatic or home only. It's very simple. This app plus the 11115 prl gives me great service at work and 3g data as well.

Ok, I selected Samsung for the manufacturer and then I selected Roam Only. The signal bar then had the small triangle above it and the 3g icon disappeared. I cannot access data, the market, browser and Tapatalk doesn't connect to the Internet. What am I missing? How can I roam with this app and also roam on data?
BTW, I am in Virginia.

You can't roam if the roaming signal being broadcast is on PCS and not cellular. This varies depending on where you are. Now you can "roam" by making the phone think it's not roaming with another carriers PRL

If that doesn't work you may be out of luck cuz you are in a a pcs area more than likely. I'm in michigan in an urban area at work so I'm basically roaming off Verizon network.

Besides the benefit of 3G roaming, from my understanding 11115 is an open PRL, this means that if it can't find a system on its list it will still connect you to another signal if its present even if its not on the preferred list.

So it is confirmed that E4GT inherited this radio bug from earlier Samsung models? or is that just going by the FAQ for the app?
One would think Samsung would have fixed that problem by now. The phone clearly can get PCS signal or you wouldn't get Sprint service, so not being able to roam with PCS signal (vs CLR signal) is likely a radio problem.

Well heres how I confirmed. The lab I work in is a very low signal area (basement of big concrete building). When my OG Evo roams it jumps back and forth between PCS and Cellular. When my ET4G roams it only roams on cellular, never switches to PCS. This is using the same 11115 PRL on both phones. Given this and the previous presence of the bug, it was enough for me.
You would think they would fix it, but I'm guessing Sprint doesn't want them to. Less money they have to pay roaming partners.

@Rip,
I just tried with both 00001.prl and 11115.prl... Both show NO DIFFERENCE for me on the SGSII. Speedtests from Speakeasy.net show no difference in speeds (300kbps/300kpbs) for each prl in both roaming and non-roaming via Roam Control. This truly sucks because I feel this phone can't even use Verizon's signal for data in my area.

If your using 00001 then you shouldn't need roam control you'd be on verizon or another cdma carrier by default. But that doesn't always mean that verizon is faster, sprints 3g speeds are actually better in my area than verizon 3g. But verizon has lte here. If you want to confirm whose network your on dialing *2 will usually (but not always) connect you to verizon if your roaming on their towers, also there's an app called netmonitor which will list the system id your on

Well, yes if thats what you want. You'll always be on Verizon.
However...
If you haven't heard, even though Sprint says free roaming, they can still terminate your contract for excessive voice and/or data roaming.
IIRC the "limit" that makes sprint take a second look is over 50% of your minutes for voice or 300mb+ roaming data.
This is a very YMMV situation. Some people have 4gb roaming data and sprint doesn't say anything, others get termination letters; some have used this trick to get out ETF free.
I like 11115 + RC because I can switch back and forth at will, you unfortunately don't have that option because it seems they don't transmit data on the cellular band in your area. If these were HTC phones we could switch PRLs on the phone itself without having to connect to a PC.
I made sure data was being broadcast on the cellular band in my area before buying this phone, but I knew about this before hand (well thought it would probably not be fixed yet).
I absolutely love this phone but if I lived in your area I wouldn't have it. Getting a signal is my number one priority.

You are incorrect.
Roam Control does not decide whether you roam 1x or 3g. Your roaming data speed is governed by your PRL and/or the roaming agreements Sprint has with other carriers.
For example, in northern Wisconsin, Sprint has a full 3G roaming agreement with Alltel which was maintained because Verizon was forced to divest those towers to Cellcom. This is available to all Sprint customers. In southern Wisconsin, you are able to get a "corporate" PRL (like 11115), which enables 3g roaming.
In other states, where roaming is on Verizon, Sprint forces 1x roaming, and the only way around it is to use a hacked Verizon PRL.
Roam Control is a fantastic program that works perfectly for me, but I'm fortunate to be in a valid 3G roaming zone!

I've never heard of anyone roaming naturally (when sprint signal is nonexistent) on anything higher than 1x and without a hacked verizon prl. I only use Roam Control at work, where Sprint signal is so low, the radio drains the battery 10 times faster than normal. And it works great.
But sure, here.
I'll rephrase:
Unless you are already able to roam on 3G w/o Roam Control, Roam Control will let roam at 1x only. It is not a substitute for using a hacked/business PRL which allows 3G roaming.
nvm..........

If your Sprint signal is low and this drains your battery (which is almost always the case), you have a choice to roam on a different network, whose signal is usually much stronger. You lose the bandwidth (from 3g to 1x - 2.5mbps to 128kbps), but you will improve the battery life (compared to losing something like 10% battery an hour in idle).
I usually only lose about 1% battery per hour with 3+ Sprint bars of signal. But at work, my signal is 0-1 bars, and the battery loss is close to 10% per hour.
By using Roam Control and setting it to roam only, I can have normal battery drain - 1% an hour.
I personally have never got this dang thing to work. When I select Roam Only, it just chills on Sprint's network still. I can be roaming (just by chance), then try 'Sprint Only' and nothing... stays in roaming.
I would love it if this worked though because I am on PRL 11115 and should be able to get 3G + I get better VZ signal in my apt. anyways.
Anyone have suggestions on what I may be doing wrong? I select Samsung in the options.

I've noticed on Calk's ROMs that after selecting a new state (automatic to Roam Only, or Roam Only to Automatic), about half the time the change won't take until I reboot the phone. Usually, when this happens, I'll get force closes for the phone process.
Try rebooting after changing the state and see if that works for you.

Calk's 2.7 EL26. Radio responds instantly (LOS ==> VZW) and 3G is indicated within 8 seconds usually. I have seen information in other threads about Samsung not roaming in 3G due to a lack of PCS band. However if it is not switching at all that probably does not apply.

Not sure where else to put this, quick question specifically regarding our phones. I've read that Samsung has a radio bug making it so we cannot roam on the PCS band. After using roam control and a bunch of PRLs, I've been unable to roam on 3G data in my area. How can I check if verizon broadcasts on PCS in my area? or does anyone know off the bat if it's possible to roam on verizon's 3G in southern california (minus san diego)?

Riding the bus in Los Angeles listening to music and surfing the web on my phone when LTE pops up. Now as you can see I have PRL 1 which forces roaming on Verizon towers. I checked my speeds to see if this was indeed true and I was hitting 16mbps+.
This lasted about a minute until I moved out of the area and signal went back to 3G.
Anyone can explain?

Sure, you rode by a Sprint tower that was broadcasting LTE. You can't connect to Verizon LTE as you don't have the proper hardware (VZW LTE: 700 mhz, Sprint LTE: 1900 mhz)

That doesn't explain why I don't get LTE signal on the Verizon PRL on spots I know to have Sprint LTE though. For example at home I get a steady LTE signal -although at joke speeds. sometimes I'll be hitting 4mbps other times I'll get lucky if i even hit 1mbps- but I'll still use PRL 1 and not get Sprint LTE.
So was this a glitch that made me jump on Sprint tower although I was on forced roaming?

This has been explained numerous times... when you are roaming (on Verizon) but you have an LTE connection, it is two different signals. You are getting EVDO/1xRTT coverage from Verizon and LTE coverage from Sprint... no one on Sprint is roaming Verizon's LTE. Two different frequency spectrums of throughput.

Actually, I think the OP meant it's impossible to grab Sprint's LTE 1900 on a Verizon only PRL. Due to common belief, it's said you must be on a Sprint PRL that has LTE enabled to connect to it. The OP's situation is a rare one.
I wonder if Digiblur can enlighten us here, since I've always believed you needed a Sprint-Only LTE capable PRL to connect to Sprint's LTE network.

Can't you just check your assigned LTE IP address to see if it was issued by Verizon or not?
I bet if you look at the LTE engineering screens it shows a Sprint PCS G block connection. From what I have seen in the past, you do need a PRL with the MCC/MNC records for that Geo. I have seen the Nexus not need this, probably because it doesn't have a qualcomm chipset.

From what I know.. ..there isn't. He could use roam control to see what carrier he is on.
PRL version 1?

So this was strange.

Will someone please link me to the file for PRL version 1? (assuming this is still the best option) I am in a rural area where Verizon has 4Glte but sprint data sucks. I've searched but can't find it. Also, if I switch to s stock rooted rom, flash it, and then recover my current rom (Eclipse), will the PRL stick or revert back to what it was?
Thanks,

I don't believe that is possible. Verizon and sprint use different frequencies for lte. They only share 3g and 2g frequency.

I found 1,2,3 and a couple others but none of them will give me 3g but I know it's here. I wasn't trying to get 4g, as nice as it would be.

I have a samsung s3 and here in Eastern Canada, I'm with FIDO (use Rogers towers) and the coverage is not as good as Bell's. New rules allow each of them access to all the towers. This means me as a customer can now freely roam from one carrier's tower to the another. The only problem is that FIDO has setup the phone so that its network has priority even if it has one bar on 2g it won't switch over to Bell's towers unless I lose the signal completely. Is there a was to force the phone to switch over faster? Or is there a way to disable 2g and allow only 3G 4G and LTE?
