Qi Induction Mod \ Disassmble the 900 - Nokia Lumia 900

Anyone know how tough it is to disassemble the 900? I assume the screen comes forward. I am interested in modding mine for Qi induction charging.
I know this seems like a shame to some of you but I am kind of bummed that the 900 is thicker and heavier and doesn't have expandable memory compared to the original Samsung Focus. I actually prefer a smaller screen, so even though I am a little excited about the faster processor and front facing camera, since I don't live in an LTE area, what will really get me lit up about a new phone is to get Qi induction charging working on it.

why not give the 800 a try? Its smaller, a touch lighter, and is more balanced than the 900...

I guess for the extra $400 that it costs to get an unlocked Lumia through expansys or Amazon I am inclinded to put up with the extra weight and size. Besides I would be taking the Lumia 800 apart as well.
Incidentally, why did you choose the Kindle Fire over the Nook? Anything to do with the Microsoft Barnes and Noble patent dispute and subsequent lack of Nook on Windows Phone?

I have both and the 900 is by far the better of the two. The screen destroys the screen on the 800, the battery lasts 30% longer (tested). It doesn't have the flimsy usb door, and the screen size is awesome. The only thing better on the 800 is the raised screen.

I chose the kindle fire for one reason, well 2 reasons.
1. I have a tablet now, and will be moving to a windows tablet this fall. I didn't want to spend alot more money.
2. I couldn't sleep last Wednesday night. At 3pm I read an ad about the fire being $90 off, refurbished. So I bought it.
Besides that, yes I am pissed about no nook reader on WP. Also, no Starbucks app either. Darn man, you got me thinking. Now I'm all pissed off again!!!

did you notice the back cover below it has an apple in the middle of it... Just thought it was kinda funny. Im holdin out for powermat to come out with there induction batteries.

Thanks I was actually looking for more information regarding this exact case. I totally overlooked it when I looked through that gallery. I was thinking about holding off for that case but may go with a normal pouch. I liked the fact that it seemed to be an all-in-one. Protects, Charges, Holster, and Kickstand. Based on the mock photo however I prefer the Evo's own kickstand as the clip being used as a stand defeats the point of placing it horizontally and it covers the default one. Also not sure whats going to charge the phone, I'm assuming a powermat though as sprint sells them in store. Guess I'll have to wait for more information on it.
i think its more like a battery case like the one for the iphone

I spoke with Mophie regarding a product for the EVO and they replied they make cases for Apple products exclusively and have no plans to enter other markets.
hey there might actually be a white evo, if you look at the charging case it's whit. not talking about the apple looking one but the one above it.

That was actually the prototype version of the Evo. It originally had a satin silver speaker grill around the camera and rear speaker however in the final release the removed it and went with the solidblack with peaking red backing instead.

What a great business decision. Align yourself with a single company, of course, that company has 4% of the marketshare on a carrier that blows monkey chunks, but hey, those that buy it are about as technologically clueless as most Luddites.
One more reason to never go apple.

As much as I hate it, It's not a completely boneheaded business decision. I mean, the iPhone is the largest single form-factor market. I'm pretty sure there will be plenty of new options soon. This is after all, Sprint's follow up to their last two "iphone killers" the instinct and the Pre. The EVO sold 3x more the first day than those two sold combined in their first weekend. You can't really blame them for taking a "wait and see" approach to preparing accessories.
Now that the EVO is a proven success (and a success with very little packed in the box) I'm sure they will be working quickly to supply the market.
I mean, my last phone, the vogue, came with a case, an AC charger, data cable, headphones, screen protection, dongles galore, extra stylus, etc. The instinct came with all that plus an extra battery.
I was wondering about all the reviews *****ing about no HDMI cable -- the EVO didn't even include headphones! The aftermarket for this phone will be very big. Eventually. Still not iPhone big, but big.
i really really want this case, i hope some info on it comes soon, seems like a wicked good case.

Tablet

Does anyone think they might make a tablet dock?
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
I've talked quite a bit about that with my friends. That would be awesome, but it would require 2 full Android OS on the phone (well, if you want a Honeycomb tablet, that is). Still, it's probably doable. I already have a powerful laptop and, being a developer, I need the extra power and RAM for software like Eclipse and VS.NET, so the laptop dock is not for me (really, it's seems to be just an "internet laptop"). A tablet, though? That would be great. I'd save quite a few bucks, since I'm eyeing the Xoom at the moment
I'm not a developer or a techie, just an avid consumer. A BT or other "wireless" connection would be great. Just slip the phone in you pocket and carry on. Almost as good, probably better from the do-ability point of view would be a dock for the phone that would allow you to use the phone as a grip for a ten inch touch screen. I would love to have one I could draw on but that is probably asking too much.
But as an architect, this capability, enterprise remote desktop and a pixel qi or mirasol type screen, I can get a lot of work done out of the office.
Couldn't it just be the lappy dock without the keyboard to begin with?
I'm no fan of AT&T but for a variety of reasons me and my N1 reside there, so at a subsidized price, this looking pretty attractive for out of office capabilities.
I am not so sure that a "Tablet Dock" would really work. The only way to dock the atrix to something like that would be
A) On the back side adding an odd bulge to the device making it hardly feasible
B)Dock to the side or the bottom which would cause the tablet to be too long or too wide
C) Dock it inside the "Tablet" which would probably make the "tablet" too thick for consumer tastes
My bet is that we will NOT see a tablet dock, though if they could find a way do it right without any of the above mentioned scenarios occurring it would be a hell of a concept.

I tried it with my Nexus 1, holding an ipad on top of it,even with the trackball, it was comfortable in the hand, although it would get heavy. If it were just the screen and dock a few ounces would be spared. With the accelerometer it is either left handed or right handed in portrait. A screen with a "j" at the center of the long side could be quite compelling. It does need a way of making sure the phone was secure.
edit. I rigged up my phone so it was stuck to the ipad and it was actually more comfortable walking around with it that way than the way I usually hold it -- but it did get heavy.
I was thinking of the C) option (dock the phone INSIDE the tablet). Yes, that would mean a thickier tablet, but to me that's the only viable way to do it. Otherwise it loses a lot of the convenience of a tablet. Remember that you don't need CPU/RAM/Storage or even battery (ok, maybe battery) in the tablet, it would be just a bigger touchscreen that would load Honeycomb and use the phone's processing power, so it doesn't have to be that much thicker than the phone (and I've played with the Galaxy Tab a bit, it is already quite thicker than a phone).
Yes but the reason I doubt we will see a tablet dock is because it will eat into Zoom sales.

Not necessarily because the Atrix 4G is an AT&T device while the Xoom is a Verizon Wireless device. A tablet dock whould just make the Atrix into a "AT&T Xoom"

Actually, now that I think about it...
What separates the Atrix and the Xoom (besides the obvious things like screen size, battery size, etc)?
How different, if at all, are the processors?
How much RAM does the Xoom have?
Does the Xoom have a different graphics processor? (a non-integrated one)
If there isn't much of a difference between the two, I don't see why a slot-loading (LOL nostalgia) 10-in screen with a nice battery packed in there can't work as a tablet.
well, a tablet accessory would change the possibility that I buy this phone in the near future from most likely to definately Now if anyone could make a stable version of qemu for android...
If they do make one I'm sure it will be five thousand dollars.

Well that's not realistic at all...the zoom is 800, a shell with a 10" touch screen and a battery wouldn't be that expensive probably less than the laptop dock as the laptop has a keyboard and a slightly bigger display

I don't think you caught his sarcasm there.
If I assume right, he's just making fun of the ridiculous mindset that ATT has with pricing their most innovating products, and screwing/ripping the joy straight from their customers.
I agree that the tablet will be about five thousand dollars had ATT come out with one. Oh, and add that a new tethering plan called tethering+ would be introduced to complement that tablet. It would be an addition 100bucks added to the original tether plan that you should have already bought.
I think that would be awesome. As was already pointed out, it would just have to be a touchscreen and a battery. Not too complicated. It seems like having it slot into the back would make the most sense. Then there would just be a bulge on one side. That is, unless the whole tablet was that thick, but I think it would make more sense to have a slight bulge on one side than an über thick tablet (unless all that space is battery!).
My Nook color cost $250 and has a 7" IPS panel at 1024x600. I don't see any reason that a 10" screen with similar/slightly better resolution, paired with a battery couldn't be produced for $200 or so. No CPU, RAM, etc, heck it wouldn't even have to have speakers. The only extra thing I could see being of use would possibly be some space for a Honeycomb ROM that the Atrix could boot up for use with the tablet.
Hopefully Motorola does this, or somebody in China does.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I don't think the pricing is AT&T's fault here. The Xoom is a VZW device, yet is selling for a ridiculous $800+ +one month data. Motorola is getting greedy, IMO. Hopefully a soon-to-be crowded Android tablet market will knock the Xoom down a few hundred.

Wireless charging stands

We need more options for wireless charging stands. The Tylt Vu is nice but for $70+ it's stuck at one angle and the lip on the bottom is much bigger then it needs to be. http://www.tylt.com/vu/
There's also a Nokia model with a more "watchable" angle but it costs over $100.

Wireless Charger Sale! $25

Hi All,

I will admit its not that fastest charger out their, but by no means it is a bad wireless charger what so ever. Takes under 3 hours to get a full charge from 0%.
I had a Tylt Wireless Charger on order and had to cancel the order after reading about their over heating issues. While N5 users using the DT900 have nothing but good things to say about it, a simple search here on XDA will prove you that.
The Nokia DT-900 is a quality wireless charger, especially when compared to any cheap eBay wireless charger you can buy, I would never set my phone on a cheap eBay wireless charger.

If you generalize about the quality of a product strictly based on price and where you buy it from, you'll miss out on great products sorry to say. And I have done quite a bit of reading, both here on xda and elsewhere about the DT-900, and it's a mixed bag. Most of the high praise was due to the price when they had a fire sale, the performance is just average, many saying on the slow side. Also with issues of having to perfectly find the sweet spot, despite it having 3 coils.
While I agree the Tylt Vu is not my cup of tea, if you search for posts I've done about cheap Qi chargers. I've got ones that we're under $12, charge fantastically, and have no problems with detection. And yup, dirt cheap from ebay, the place where you would never set your phone down.

What I meant by the cheap eBay products is that they aren't name brands, meaning they are cheaply made by god knows who...
I don't think their sale price has anything to do with it, look at Tylts they had a 50% off sale on them, and it has just exposed the overheating issue with the N5 even more because more people bought them and were affected by the issue. Whereas Nokia's also had them on sale and has gotten good reviews, barely any complaints on the N5 forums.
But we are all entitled to our own opinions, so I respect yours.
I will happily read those posts,
Thanks.

Okay, but that's your mistake. You're assuming everything name brand is somehow better, and everything no name is cheap. In other words, you are the exact target audience for advertising, branding, marketing, and labels.
A Nike symbol on a shoe, doesn't somehow make it higher quality than the exact shoe without the swoosh stitching. They're still made at the same $1.50 hour sweat shops overseas. Only that little check mark allows a store to mark it up hundreds of dollars more.
Have you seen how a bread factory works? It's the same production line, at the very end it splits off in multiple directions for multiple brands. Wonderbread, walmart, house brand, no name. Same production line, same product, different branding, vastly different prices. Your breakfast cereal works the exact same way, same factories, different boxes and branding. No name/generic, skips the advertising and branding, so they charge less, and I save money.
But if you want to keep the opinion that generic = cheap garbage, go for it. I'll happily spend less money for a product that is the same or better, even if it doesn't have a few extra letters associated with a giant corporation.
Here's an example I did about the Nexus 5 quicksand cases. Name brand vs Generic ebay. One is $20, the other $0.99
You tell me if the 20x increase in price is worth it.

I never said that generic brands in totality are garbage. That's why in a post above I said depends.
You can't always compare cheap no name brands to high end brand names. Sometimes you can sometimes you can't.
But this is really worthless, this thread was simply about someone wanting to buy a $25 no name cheap wireless charger and I pointed out that for $24.50 they could buy something that is better in terms of quality and brand.
BTW nice find with the cases, in that case the generic brand was of very similar quality when compared to the name brand.

Thanks, but on technicalities, it's not "similar quality" to the name brand case. It is the SAME case, minus some ink for 1/20 the price.
Also, it isn't worthless to bring this topic up, because despite talking about it, you continue to keep making ignorant generalizations, in this case, ones with no factual basis.
For instance, why do you automatically assume his charger of choice is a "no name cheap wireless charger?" You know absolutely nothing about it. Sure there are ones out there that cost less, but why would you assume his is bad? Just because it isn't Nokia, Sony, Samsung, or whatever other billion dollar conglomerate, doesn't make the product no name or cheap.
Then you list a Nokia, saying it's better in terms of quality and brand, yet you have no basis for comparison other than what you're imagining.
Your recommendation, other than the word Nokia molded in the plastic in worse in every way than almost all other standard Qi chargers.
1) It uses proprietary inputs, almost every other manufacturer uses the standard micro USB adapter.
2) Most reviews say it requires finding the sweet spot to charge, or the phone doesn't recognize it.
3) It's output is 750mA while almost all others are 1000mA.
So again, how is the Nokia better in terms of quality and brand when in all actuality, the product is worse in every way?
This is going to be my last post as it isn't adding much to the topic.
Its like comparing a a Mercedes Benz to a Kia. Which one is better my friend? The Benz or the Kia. We all know the high end brand is going to be better.
If you tell me the Kia then we all know who is actually being ignorant.
Remember I earlier said it is my opinion, and that I respected yours. I'm not going to lower myself to getting into some stupid fight with you over this. Like I said and will say again it is my opinion. If you don't respect another people opinions the one who shouldn't be recommending products is yourself.

Whos's returning their Samsung Note 7?

After playing with the Note 7 for about a week, just came to the conclusion that it's not for me at the present time. Reasons below :
1: Size. I do not like the size. Was hoping it was a little bigger. At least the size on the Note 4 or Nexus SP.
2: Battery sucks for me. Constantly charging.
3: Speaker. Cannot hear it some time if I am in another room.
4: Still no IR Blaster
5: This should maybe be #1 PRICE POINT. $879.00 + high taxes just not worth it. No phone is perfect but "Them Prices way to high Samsung need to CUT IT"!
6: The screen scratches too easily. Fingerprints!
7: Fingerprint Sensor. You have to press the button. Plus, I have gotten use to it being on the back.
8: Touchwiz still lags.
Great phone in every other way. But the "wow" factor is missing for me at this price. The Note is really the best built phone out right now. This is a really hard decision. But with other phones coming out, I will take a wait and see attitude. By October when everything is out, if nothing better is out maybe I will revisit the NOTE 7.

Some valid points but some are just nonsense....
You purchased the phone knowing the price and that it has no IR blaster so why does it now affect your purchase?
The finger print sensor has nothing wrong with it. Due to your preferences and what you are used to, you are creating this problem.

in a way that when you pay almost 1000 EUR for a device, you expect much more.
and the test period has demonstrated that the device is not up to the expectations.
in other words, the device is overpriced; the price is grossly inflated.
that is evident to most users of previous Note models, even without purchasing it.

- The screen is the same size so why would you want the body to be bigger? Doesn't make sense.
2: Battery sucks for me. Constantly charging.
- Depends on many many factors and there is always a bedding in period.
3: Speaker. Cannot hear it some time if I am in another room.
- It is down to the water proofing, but I read in many places it is still louder than some previous models.
4: Still no IR Blaster
- You knew this before you bought it.
5: This should maybe be #1 PRICE POINT. $879.00 + high taxes just not worth it. No phone is perfect but "Them Prices way to high Samsung need to CUT IT"!

- Glass = fingerprints, that's not unique to this phone. Put it in a premium case that still protects but still shows the look of the phone
7: Fingerprint Sensor. You have to press the button. Plus, I have gotten use to it being on the back.
- No you don't need to press it every time, just rest your finger on it when it asks for it.
8: Touchwiz still lags.
- Cannot be confirmed by everyone.

The speaker works great for things like giving easily-heard directions while driving in a noisy car. I've never tried listening to a phone from another room. I find they're easy to take with me--fit right in my pocket! For music, I use BT headphones.

I agree with the apprentice. This is exactly what I am saying about this thread as half of the things mentions are already known before purchasing or just common sense....it isn't a valid reason to then say the phone is a flop and you will be returning it.
Its fair enough to say that the battery is a let down or that the phone is scratching badly because we don't know this prior to having the handset. But to say that the glass gets fingerprints? I'm sure all glass gets finger prints unless it specifically says oleo-phobic and that its finger print proof then you don't have a case. Also to say the phone is expensive? yes it is we all know that but for some like myself i managed to get a very cheap sim only tariff and bought the phone outright. Over the course of 2 years it works out at around £35 per month which is the average for a decent handset and tariff.
It's just really number 5 - buyers remorse.
Nice burn apprentice.

Why not? You can hand over $879 + tax expecting something more than you eventually got. Then the lack of IR for instance could be offset by other advantages.
Isn't the screen smaller due to 0,1" going AWOL at the edges? So you have 5,5" flat estate and the rest is in the curves? It makes the phone smaller, but there are many 5,5" flat phones out there.
Advising a case to hide your glorious new phone in, is bad imo. It is just Samsung chose one of the worst materials to build a phone. A fragile front is more than enough. Having a backside that is slippery and accident prone is another.

I agree it would be nice to have 0.2" more of usable screen but that would make the phone much wider and harder to handle.
We all know full well that Samsung were pushed into making their phones better looking and innovative. Journalists, bloggers and even guys like us moaned like hell about plastic or faux leather materials and boring designs. They were losing market shares and they needed to act. So they introduce glass and aluminium, they slim down the whole phone and do an amazing and well received job of making the phone look very sexy, and very different to all the other flat slabs out there. We all say yes! Good job! Samsung is now back on the ball, they sell very well and everyone is happy.... But as is always the case of impossible to please everyone... we get those complaining that they lost the removable batteries and the phone is all slippery and fragile and "I will never buy Samsung again... yada yada" But curved screens, glass and aluminium are here to stay for now because they sell and that is what Samsung is in this game for.
If you want to buy into all that and a lot of us do, then yes, a case is pretty much necessary. And to be fair the cases that Samsung offer really do ensure the phone still looks amazing. And if you need to have better protection there are alternatives.
Im returning mine due to some pink spots on the right side of the screen but not for a refund but for 1 to 1 exchange
Returning mine because its much slower then my note 5. Installs literally take twice as long. It makes no sense.

Oh, yes I do agree Samsung was led astray when all the reviewers were whining about plastic phones and the Hansaplast S5 wasn't the best design they could make. Yet plastic is one of the best materials for a phone. It is light, scratch resistant, doesn't block signals or wireless charging and can be made in all colors and shapes. They got it wrong with the yucky feeling S3/S4/Note 2. After the S4 slipped out of my hand again, I got the Note 3 almost as soon as it was available. The faux leather stitching on it is bad, but the back cover gets the job done. After almost three years of use it has zero scratches and it is very grippy. Same as the N4. It survives my wifes handbag for almost two years now, which is no small feat for a phone. I was waiting for the N5, but if I wanted it, it needed parallel importing. That was too much hassle for a slippery phone with no SD-card, small, non-replaceble battery and glass everywhere.
The N7 is better than the N5, but I'll need to think long and hard if and when I'm going to buy it.
I'm definitely returning mine
#1. no Root
#2. Fast charging is fake, not fast at all
#3. Advertized very long battery life, also fake, it drains just as fast as it did in the past phones when playing games, with WiFi On, GPS On, and Bluetooth On.
#4. I'm seeing a lot of scary cracked glass for normal day to day operations (pocket) that is why I never went with Apple phones
#5. The wireless charging doesn't work well with Generic off brand wireless chargers.
#6. SIM card / SD card slot requires pin to pop out, if you push to hard to eject the button breaks off, and you are stuck with the SIM / SD card inside.
This is a Major No No for me, I swap SD card regularly,
in older models it was as easy as 1, 2, 3. (Pop the real case open, eject SD card, insert SD card, done)
I'm not happy at all with the Note 7 mainly due the lack of root, I could have overlooked some of the transgression listed above, but not having root, makes the phone useless to me.

Hi, Learn, if you listen to the naysayers on any forum you would never leave the house and certainly never make another purchase, not even have a hair cut. The Note 7 is a bloody good mobile. Buy it, experience it, if you don't like it you have 14 days to return it so someone else waiting for it can enjoy it. :highfive:
I have to say this Note 7 forum is getting silly. There are dedicated haters here who just post in nearly every thread criticising something they don't even own. Its turning to the point of hysteria on some threads. :silly:
Buy and enjoy.

I have to disagree with a lot of things you have listed here. Especially as you claim fast charging is fake! Even if it wasn't as fast as you liked you can't simply dismiss it as fake. Before buying the phone you must have known about the SD card slot - where else could it go and still retain good water resistance?
But the whole thing about rooting is premature. How many new high end devices are rootable in the first couple of weeks of release? We have hit dead ends before regarding rooting but then someone finds a way through. But if you want it rooted today then I guess that's your reason for dismissing this phone. It makes me wonder why you bought it before looking into this particular issue.
May seem strange to most of you guys but the lack of IR blaster kills it for me. I use it on my note 3 all day everyday. Air-conditioning at work and at home. My TV and set top box. My fan. It's such a small piece of tech with so much use. Kind of annoys me that they took it away.

I bought into the hype after watching the live unveil in New York.
I was actually checking out the Nexus 6p, as I wanted a new phone with Root.
in the past Samsung phones used to be a safe bet to get root, but seems like since the S7 the game has changed.
Fast charging is as you said not fast enough, 1 hour charge to only get 60% to 70% is not much improvement over the Note 3 / Note 4 charging, somehow the way I use my phones they can drain the battery faster than it can recharge itself.
So battery packs has always been my friend, as I keep several charged battery packs ready to swap in/out.
Reason why I skipped Note 5, due the lack of battery swap. I decided to give Note 7 a try thinking it should have improved, but nope it's just exactly as I guestimated it would perform, and the educated guess was spot on.
I was not really surprised by the charge speed lack of performance, just the Advertisements, and the Unveil event made it such a huge deal that is was like WOW... but in reality it does not really deliver as advertised.
The charge speed performance is no different than previous generation, phone batteries like Note 3 and Note 4, using a normal 2A charger and a battery charger, my batteries pack are full in about 2 hours aprox same time it takes for the Note 7 using the "fast charge" to reach 100%
The so called fast charge to 50% in 30 min is bogus, I was clocking it, it was more like 45min to an Hour depending if the phone was Off or On... which is pretty much the same rate why it takes aprox 2 hours for 100% charge.
The old Notes 3/4, charges at about the same rate as Note 7, so they are just advertising the same old as new, I don't really see any real improvement over previous model.
With the removal of the option to swap battery packs since Note 5, it makes it even less appealing knowing you'll be stuck without battery until you find a plug.
In Note 3 and Note 4, you simply pop out the drained battery and pop in the 100% charged battery, downtime 60 sec at most to open back cover swap the battery and replace the back cover.
The Note 5 and Note 7 downtime ranges until you find a plug, or you carry one of those external battery top up dongles, not very appealing. I know those are very common with Apple users, and I don't like carrying those bulky USB dongles with me.
Battery life If I'm being conservative and turn off GPS, turn off Bluetooth, and turn off WiFi, I can get aprox 3 hours with Note 7, which is again about the same time I get with previous Note 3 and Note 4.
So the claim for an improved battery life is also bogus advertisement.
I still have about 7 days to keep it, if nothing changes by then, it's going back to the store.
The only nice feature I like on the Note 7 is the Iris scanner, and the 4x MIMO, actually that's the only reason the Note 7 picked my interest, I wanted to see if the 4x MIMO would improve signal quality, in poor reception areas, and it did.
so, of all the hyped propagandas during the live unveil and Ads, only the Iris scanner and 4x mimo actually performs as advertised, everything else, not so much, like the "free" game pack that is not available to people in North America >.< ...like really, advertised live during a new york event, and then they said, or sorry that's not for you.
