[Q] Is this phone good?

Sorry that i'm posting this if there has been other threads like this, Search was down.
Anyway, is the GPU 'PowerVR SGX540' bad for 'HD' games? Such as GTA 3 or Modern combat 3, etc.
I'm wanting to buy this phone between now to december as i have a planned overseas trip in december. This phone appealed to me due to it's sleek-ish design and the curved unusual screen. How great is the camera quality? I've been on gsmarena.com for quality checks however i can't really tell the differences (tested with galaxy s3 and one x cameras).
Also, is the battery life good enough for moderate usage (a bit of gaming, texting, browsing) throughout the day? (I usually charge my phone whenever i go to sleep)
Wanting to switch from Galaxy 551 to Galaxy Nexus. Originally i wanted to go for HTC One S but they do not sell that model in New Zealand.
Is this phone worth buying now? Or should i buy another different phone - similar specs/price would be nice (in NZD)

By Google, XDA, and everyone else.
Look at the dinc. Still has development and has JB.
If you can wait for next month for the next Nexus. But I must warn u.
If you wait.

Development sounds good - My current phone has hardly any development as it's not a popular one.
The Price shouldn't really increase in my country, may stay the same but definitely not increase (If that's what your stating)

I wouldn't recommend you buy this phone. Actually, this is the best phone I've ever had, the hardware is amazing and there is a lot of development for this model, BUT there is a massive manufacturing defect, a lot of Gnex starts having issues with charging and battery drain because a problem with the Micro USB port, this makes the phone unusable and Samsung is not responding about the problem, sometimes they even say that it is not a manufacturing defect so you have to pay for repair...
So, buy another phone, this one is not worth it.

I just looked up some reports about this... It seems like the usb hardware is bent when it happens

Those issues are not as common as they seem.
Like the Death Grip for the iPhone 4. Only 1% complained. Even though it seemed like a global complaint.

Hey galaxy nexus is just great (coming from a Defy) and it got enough power hardware wise to be quite future proof.

I really like One S's hardware but i like Nexus's software... tough choice really (Both similar price online, S4 Krait cpu)

Of the two, nexus, hands down. $350, and top notch development, for a very long foreseeable future. Hardware wins after 2-3 years. Software wins every other time.

sooo i used and tested a lot of phones in my life.about 3 months ago i started to check the top class. my colegues at work had oneX, oneS, S2, S3, iphone4 and 4s and a GNex. OneX was the firmest, the feel of the materials was great i personaly dont like those capacitive buttons on any phone but, whatever, it had NO battery cover so when something happens you're f****d. S2 was and still is a classic but it was getting old. still good but as i said its old. S3 should be the bomb, it was called the best phone yet. yup its big and what not but that ****ty button and the overall feel of it was a disaster. it was so poorly built for my taste. it was too much plastik, too round i dont know. then i tested the nexus!
oh man first of all the feel of it in the hand. the ballance it gets, with that thicker part it made it feel like a part of the hand. the power button is on the right side and on the RIGHT (HTC). The the first thing i notice is there is no physical button. simple thought for me was less **** to get damaged, so great. when i saw the nav buttons it were the same from my transformer and then it came to me that they were integrated in the scren. well not integrated, but the part of the screen. if you watch a movie or a picture the would go back and it would be the movie/picture. like all phones today they get greassy, when i tourned it back i saw the cover. it was ok. nice pattern but a strange way to take it off and back on. everytime i think something would break. i think it's not a phone for people who change SIM cards often. it was awesome.
but still blah blah blah S3 has 4cpu, 2ram bigger screen. oneX is great almost the same as S3. So i wanted finally a S3 cuz of the bigger screen i watch movies on my phone and tablet and a lot of web. but then i thought it was to damn expensive. 4cpu for what??? Photoshop, 3d moddeling, hard core gaming...hm get a pc or something else for games like psp. cuz a game eats battery like crazy. so insted after a lot of thought for half the bucks i had an awesome phone.
dude buy it i don't know any better phone right now not cuz of this forum or something like that it's cuz the price and what u get us phenomenal!!!

I've seen some threads/posts relating to Galaxy Nexus's screen and how it shows these 'lines' or 'dots'. Is this normal for a pentile screen?

Quite a nice device
When it comes to an Android, the GNex is still at the top IMO. The fact that google supports it directly is very nice, and while it may be a bit behind others in stats, it performs quite admirably. The build quality of the device is on par with other samsung devices such as the S3. The camera is probably its weak point, with only 5mega pixels and run of the mill optics, its not going to win any awards for its pictures. However, it is in line if not better than many other smart phones. The only ones that beat it by a large margin are the s3, iPhone 4s/5, and the OneX. Also, I've noticed that when recording 1080p it can occasionally have the odd stutter. I typically use 720p for space constraints, so it doesnt really bother me, but it is something of a bummer. This is seemingly corrected when using a custom kernel and overclocked a bit, but I typically just run the stock rooted ROM now, as the pure "google" experience is what drew me to the phone in the first place.
it offers a smooth ui with JB that is easily as good as the iPhone 4s, and beyond any other android device i've used, bar none. The battery is *decent*, and by that I mean that I have killed it in less than 10 hours, but I use it quite heavily. 95% of the time it goes from 5:30AM to 11pm-ish and has 25% or so starting at 100.The back speaker that serves as the ringer / notification / speaker phone is not up to snuff IMO, leaving a lot to be desired. In some data centers I am unable to hear it when in my pocket, however the otter box w/ belt clip fixed that pretty quick. The proximity sensor occasionally will allow the screen to come on during a call, but the case interestingly enough solved that too (I think it had to do with adding the bulk to the phone, changing how I hold it.)
The ear buds included are quite satisfactory for both music and phone calls, and are very clear, and have a good range for music, most notably the lower end for bass. As to the USB problem, I do notice that it has a hard time with some of the cheaper car chargers, and acts as if it has a short as it wont stay charging until you wiggle the plug just right. But using a decent car charger fixed that. (Dont buy the 5 dollar wal mart special, I use a motorola cable that came with my Atrix 2 and my car stereo's USB port to charge it and it never screws up)
Thats the only USB related issue I ever had, and it seems to be on the chargers end. The bluetooth radio is quite a bit better when compared to anything else I've used, as typically my ear piece when worn on my right ear with my phone in my left pocket would get a poor quality connection, but this has never been the case with the gnex.
As far as signal strength goes, its antenna is quite decent, however if you are (and it appears you are NOT) in the US and using AT&T, a UG baseband brings it in line with the S3 for signal strength (in dBm) as well as band preference, which with the stock XX baseband 1900 seems to be the preferred band, which in a lot of places wont matter, but in the mountains it can introduce some voice quality / data speed issues when it is clinging to that 1900mhz band like glue when it gets 10x the signal on the 850 bands. The screen is fantastic, and I've never noticed any little dots on it. I've never seen it struggle with any video related app or game, but I have a limited array of games on my phone, not really my thing.
About the only thing it doesn't do (but probably can be made to do) for me is AT&T visual voicemail. I have it on my plan but dont get to use it since the gnex, Also, while it has a pretty good list of APN's, be sure to get the correct one from your current phone if keeping the same carrier, just in case you need to manually create it.
A word on customization: If you plan to do anything with this phone, I recommend doing a fastboot oem unlock right out of the box, THEN set the phone up. unlocking the bootloader requires it to completely wipe itself, which is annoying if you played with the phone for a week and THEN unlock it since at that point you're stock and have no decent tools available yet. Also its really hard to brick the thing, but not impossible: Do some searches, backup the efs, dont use odin and you should be good for all the playing you want to do.

Hi guys. So I have the Nexus S and I'm kind of tempted on buying one of these Galaxy Nexus thingies. My Nexus S is only a year old, and overall it's OK on stock JB, but it can be really annoying. 3D games like Modern Combat 3 are completely unplayable and launcher redraws and system hangups occur quite often with on half a gig of RAM.
What would you do? Stay with the old Nexus and get the next model in a year or get the GNex. Where I live the thing costs roughly 380$. Do you think I could send the NS, if yes, for how much?

Thanks i read your whole paragraph. I have extra cables for charging from previous phones that used micro usb and they havent really broke my devices. Also thanks for all your info, it made me want to get the nexus even more, I'm getting it after my exams next month!

I would believe the GNex would be a great phone, however i do not own one so i cannot say. But by the looks of reviews and comments people have posted - it's a great supported phone by google which will last for a while, maybe until Nexus 2

One S doesn't have as much development and will be left die on 4.1 since the next flagship is coming back up soon.
CM will probably keep it going for a year though.

[Q] Used Note 2 vs new Nexus 4...which one?

Hi folks. I have sold my Galaxy s2 more from an eager impulse to upgrade, and I have been rolling without a phone now because I couldn't simply decide which to get. At some point I even regret I have sold the s2 which was perfectly fine. But now since I did it I said at least to make a substantial upgrade. I have a micro sim with unlimited data until next year in may so I won't upgrade until then, even more, I would like to keep it longer than that.
I narrowed my choices to
S3 (used grade B - 260£),
Nexus 4 (new with 1 year warranty - 288£)
and Note 2 (used grade C - 305£, or 320£ grade B)
the used phones come with 60 days warranty only, no box or other accesories except USB cable (basically phones from recycling websites, so in good condition)
I think I took out s3 out of the list now..because for 20£ more you can get new N4
so it's between n4 and n2
I don't mind about the storage but it is a + obviously
I like to have good battery (when travelling or using google maps I don't want to get in trouble, though there are those mobile chargers available)
I used the n2 in the shop and I could control 85% of the touchscreen with one hand.
I like being able to read kindle, kobo ebooks on the phone, and having a swiss knife like n2 is
I like music and podcasts.
I am worried about N4: back of glass, god knows how many times I dropped s2 or bumped it., although I think aftermarket backcover will be available or could stick a dbrand skin

So other than the obvious tech spec differences for me the Note was the way forward.

I've had 2 note 2's and haven't had a single issue in the months since owning.
I own both a note 2 & a nexus 4, I much prefer the note 2 and use it 95% of the time. It is a brilliant all rounder & don't think any other phone on the market presently beats it for looks or overall performance, IMO.
Get the note 2 you won't regret it at all

I will copy paste here...They are from recycle companies that buy mobiles, it is a bit risky but considering the phone has been on the market for only 4 months a grade c might be in reality grade b. There is also free returns 7 days policy.
What does Grade A mean?
• The phone is used but in excellent condition.
• Cosmetically the phone will show no signs of use, there will be no scratches,
cracks or scuffs to the screen or casing.
• It’s been fully tested*, is in full working order and has been restored to the latest operating system.
What does Grade B mean?
• The phone is used and in good condition.
• Cosmetically the phone will show signs of slight use, including two or three minor scratches to the screen and casing. It wont have cracks on the screen or casing.

Ah in that case I'd settle for the Nexus 4 if i were you., the Note 2 is a great device with much more functionality but reality is there is nothing like getting a phone right out of the box Atleast in my case and that alone would be my deciding factor besides the fact that it uses pure android which Is a plus for me too.
I've had a lot of bad experiences with used phones in the past and since then I've always opted for brand new. However, if you do decide to get the Note2 then I can add that incase the housing is pretty bad, since you've mentioned it's a grade c, then you can easily replace the housing for as cheap as 10bucks from www.cnn.cn. Their products are of high quality standard and very cheap.

Tough one really. It keeps bouncing in my head on and off... I know I can't buy anything better than these with 300£, it is basically a real upgrade mid contract with just a small cost. I also want to use it for more than one year this time.

You should take a look at Panamoz.com.
They specialise in camera lenses but offer really good prices on phones which are imported from Honk Kong and with 1 year warranty. You can get a new LTE S3 for just a bit more than a Nexus, etc.
I know people who have used the site and they all recommend it.

Okay disregard that.
It seems to have jumped up over £200!
Must have been a long discount they had over the holiday period when I last checked.

Note 2:

+more storage
+bigger battery (but also higher energy consumption through display)
+SPEN extremly useful in combination with FreeNote at University | AND try out Swype, swiping is perfect for SPEN
Nexus 4:
+newest firmware
+feels noble/high quality (unibody and glass front + back)
+more custom ROMs

I would prefer the NII mainly beacause of the big screen with AMOLED technology. I tested both devices and felt in love with the NII.

THE Note 2 came yesterday. Unfortunately it is mint on the case, but has 3 scratched, visible with the screen off, visible on white background, one 1 inch long, and 2 small, and then there are 4 more small scratches, the ones that I don't mind....quite a good condition for a grade C, I would say others would sell this as very good condition.
I think I will try to exchange it with a C or chuck 15£ more for a B; Or shouldn't I? If i put a screen protector will it make me forget about those? Does a scratched screen weaken the gorilla glass 2?
Bad about it is that the back panel creacks and flexes making sounds.
Oh..and the titanium color is beautiful.
It is true how everybody said, at first I was shocked about the size of it, and felt intimadet a bit. I am quite tall, 6.3. my hands are regular size but I have very thin fingers, but after one day I am sold, I was ready to run for a s3 or n4 because of the size, but now it doesn't feel like that anymore. The money are well spent I think, could keep this for 2 years no doubt, only badpart is I need to buy an mp3 player for running.
Battery is a WOW factor, 20h 22m on battery (8 hours from the night losing 1%/hour) screen time 4h 39m and still got 29% left. A 1hour movie episode on bbc iplayer (wifi stream) took 9% of the battery!

Yea just get a good quality anti glare screen protector and it should hide the scratches well. I hope.you get to enjoy it the way it's meant to be.

The ONLY reason you would choose N4 over Note 2 is you can't handle the screen size.
Like you want one hand operation at all time or you put your phone in your pants pocket but your pants are all has incredibly small pockets.
This is the only reason I can think of people would choose N4 over Note 2.
Other than this, I think Note 2 superior to N4 on every aspect.

Thanks, it was more about the budget. But as you can see, even a used note 2 is dearer than n4.

What was and was NOT needed?

Feel free to add your suggestions/preferences, I am certainly no Engineer, but from what we gather there was a problem with too much crammed into such a tiny package. …My main focus is what was and was NOT necessary in the original Galaxy Note 7. What was there in way of Feature that was not at all necessary in such away to take away the fact the Note 7 "had it all".
1) Headphone Jack
I have never owned an iPhone by the way, only ever Samsung Galaxy S2, Note 2 and Note 4, but the Headphone Jack is Ancient Tech. For the past 3 years I have only ever used Bluetooth Headphones (Bluedio brand) with Power Amp and Neutron for 64Bit 'Audiophile' quality sound. These headphones are a fraction of the price of Dr. Dre Beats and yet don't entail a spaghetti junction type deal with long dangling cable wire.
Lose the Headphone Jack. Not necessary. Free up space.
2) IRIS Scanner.
No one asked for it to be implemented. Was it a gimmick/novelty or something more sinister. Regardless, it certainly was NOT needed on such a device, the Note 7 without blows away all competition bar none on it's own. Without IRIS Scanner.
3) Removable Battery - 'Water Resistant'
Again, something sinister, or genuinely a practical convenience?
I am OK either way, I dig water resistance, yet just feel less "Big Brother'ed" with the ability to remove, and if necessary, replace Battery.
Yet I DO love the all-glass design, and would be OK if Battery remained locked in (not sure how many glass panels would have broken if it was a removable plate?)
On a technical side, would Removable Battery actually be "safer"? Again, experts, please chime in.
Well that's it for now. A serious topic, yet fun, what do we "NEED", what do we want and what is not necessary yet still allowing the reputation of the Note 7 (in hindsight) being still "the best Phone available by far"

the Iris scanner was great, I picked up my phone looked at it and it was ready to use, so much faster and more reliable than the fingerprint scanner, in truth that is the feature I will miss most leaving the Note.
as for waterproofing, again it is a nice useful feature for the type of work I do (mostly outside) where the device is likely to get wet quite often.
as for the headphone jack they don't take up a lot of space in truth, Apple offing it is more of a gimmick than anything you listed here, as all it was designed to do was to get people to rebuy headsets, the same as every time they change the port on the phone making every docking/charging product obsolete, this is just a way to force people to go out and buy new accessories as if you let people use the same dock for loads of devices they will never pay again into the accessory market. so while they could have went to a USB-C headset in truth it would have made little difference as the Note was already smaller than the Iphone 7+ with the stylus taking up internal space.

OP, you are clueless. You honestly think you have any CLUE of what happened with these phones when Samsung themselves can't even figure it out? Get your head checked.

I don't care for the iris scanner, I didn't use it nor think I will. As for waterproofing, I'll take a replaceable battery over it anytime. As for the headphone jack, if they remove it, I'm removing myself from their brand as well, I use it far too often and pick wire over wireless (I'm surprised the OP doesn't do this, considering the conspiracy theories posted elsewhere). I didn't upgrade from the Note 4 to Note 5 for the very reason that they removed the ability to change a battery and removal of the SD card. I went with the Note 7, but did so hesitating, and only because they added the SD card back and because they offered a free 256 GB SD card along with it. If they remove the headphone jack, sorry, but it'll be the last straw.

There's some, but surely the majority of people have a case of some sort and often also a screen protector. What's the point? If they need to remove anything, let it be the glass design in favor of a removable battery. Go back to what it used to be in terms of design, like the Note 4 or 5. I've went naked since the Z1, the curved screen was the thing they could lose for me as it stopped me getting a good quality glass screen protector letting me protect the screen while keeping the form of the phone intact but still protecting the screen without the peeling corners all note 7 protectors got, if I could have a note 7 with any one feature removed it would be the curved screen, even if it meant the phone would be slightly larger.

Agreed 100 percent! OP should go will Apple products if he really believes this. I stopped reading after OP stated headphone jack is not necessary, I for one and many others still use the headphone jack intensely as Bluetooth quality is piss poor compared to my Shure SE846, Westone 4, AKG 550, AudioTechnica ATH-M70X...etc

I think the note 7 is a formidable device, all its features made it stand out

What I don't need: headphone jack, curve screen, iris scanner
What I need: Stylus! Screen size and water resistance
What I want: Hologram projection (3D)from phone... lol
What is not neccesary:non removable battery (will only increase my cost if I need to change the battery. If I want more juice, I'll get another battery.

If the Note 7 successor won't be waterproof, I won't buy it. It is a must for me.

I don't need the Edge screen. If there actually was a Note 7 without the Edge screen, I'd have definitely gone for that.
Iris scanner was not necessary. But it's a great benchmark to know that it can be done.
Headphone jack is still a must. We still need time to adjust to a fully digital, or wireless audio entertainment. And this will take quite a long time.
Water resistance is fine, I don't need waterproof. Just enough to resist a quick splash or a dunk. Not for a swim or underwater photography.
When I had my original unit, the phone started bootlooping. I didn't mind too much because I was about to have it replaced by the exchange programme. But I had a seriously hard time shutting it off. Couple that with reports of batteries blowing up, I was very worried the phone would blow up with the infinite bootlooping. I had to wait for the damn thing to drain out its battery. So yes, having removable battery in case something like this happens will be a relief at times.
That's all the top off my head for now.

Question Galaxy z fold 3 worth it?

Hey this question mostly guess for the people that have had their phone since launch Has it been worth the money? I was wondering how do u like it? and Is the battery as terrible as every YouTuber makes it seem? I just ordered and I'm so excited

Yes it's worth it!
Biggest downer for me is no e-sim.
Battery life is fine.
And most importantly the camera is FAR better than youtube reviewers are saying.
Again in my experience.

I got it a few days before launch day and have loved it every day since. The big screen is totally worth it! I almost never use the outer screen, just occasionally for things like telling the med reminder app I took my med if my phone is already folded, or camera preview so I can take a more quality selfie with the back cameras (phone open), etc. Battery life is good for me. Speed and storage (larger version) are great, screen quality (on natural not vivid) is great, etc. The T-mobile connection issues suck and I hope they are fixed soon, but not all T-mobile customers have the issue (my friend in another state doesn't). But, the temporary fix helps - I just need them to fix it so it can roam so I'm not worried when traveling anywhere. Finding a good case isn't fun, though. I like the one I have now, but I don't think it would protect it very much from a drop/fall.

I've had it since launch..............believe it or not, I use the outer screen more than the inner one. I have taken it on vacation a couple of times. The most recent trip was to Hawaii back in December. Just before we left, I found a case that had a built-in kickstand and actually added more bulk to the phone than I realized..........well, that made the device cumbersome carrying it around on hikes and to the beach. Sometimes, depending on what shorts I was wearing, I would carry the phone in my left hand while walking around Waikiki just so it wouldn't "weigh" me down. I went back to the slimmer case after I got home. Phone has been out since August, and haven't seen anybody else with the same phone. I thought I would on vacation, but trips to busy airports, shopping malls, etc...........didn't see another person with the ZFold. I know it's expensive but you see big iphones everywhere and those aren't cheap either. I do miss the width of my Note-10+ instead of this slimmer one. Was tempted to do the trade-in for the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but will probably wait to see if the ZFold4 is any better and might upgrade to that. Only problem is, the trade-in value of the ZFold3 will drop by then. I hear the next Fold will have the S-pen and a 5000mah battery, not sure if that is enough to upgrade. Currently, you can get $900 trade-in through Samsung, T-Mobile chat person said I can get $1000 through them..............but will probably hold on to mine for now. I don't do any multiple apps tasks, but probably should try to do more to maximize its use and justify why I got it. The 5G on it, for the most part, isn't great. I was getting the 5G UC symbol a couple of weeks ago and not anymore. There was a software update last week and I think it was a T-mobile update to get rid of that symbol, didn't include the Feb security patch. Currently with the Speedtest app, getting 20.9 download, and 6.57 upload. It was way better than that prior to the update.............thanks T-mobile!

I need to shut up, as I picked up my phone today and it jumped out of my hands. I tried to catch it, but couldn't quite get it as it bounced off my fingers and onto the hardwood floor inner screen face-down. I thought it was a goner when I picked it up and the touch sensors were not working on the inner screen (tried to get to the notification I needed to respond to as I took my med), but I turned the screen off and back on again and it was working fine again. Tested most of the diagnostics in the Samsung Members app and everything was fine. Phew!
The front screen side of the case did slide off a bit in the fall, but it didn't break and slid back on when I picked it up. I do use double-sided tape so it doesn't slide every time I open the phone (don't want to scratch the front screen), but it wasn't enough for the fall.

Nice to hear that it didn't break. I think I dropped mine (folded) about a month or two after I got it and nothing happened, case protected it.....seems to be very durable device.

For me personally. Its worthed it. I upgraded from my 1 year old iPhone 12 Pro Max. Now i can freely buy accessories without worrying that it wouldn't work(because not all accessories are MFI certified in Indonesia).
And not to forget that the Z Fold 3 when closed is not that wide, thus making it easier for 1 handed use.

I have it since the launch. I have also a Iphone 13 pro. I have tried meanwhile s21 and Pixel 6 and Mi11 Ultra. So now a couple of months of using I can only say: Once Fold and forever Fold. Yes it's heavy and bulky. But Yes is the only one TABLET that is good for one hand operation and phone calls and can you carry in pants pocket. And the camera is not super duper but is top, and the battery (SOC Snapdragon) is far better than any other Exynos on the market and on the planet.

So am I! I'll be paying for this phone for the next 2.5 years, so it needs to stay in one piece for a long time to come. My previous phone I had for 5-6 years, but of all it wasn't a folding phone. A friend of mine dropped his Fold 3 on tile and had to get a new front screen protector, but it otherwise survived the fall.

I actually like the bulk of the phone when closed because it makes it easier to hold and carry without dropping it (when I dropped it, it was open to the inner screen), and I'm saying this as a woman with small hands (medium glove size).

Took a look at the fold3 in an at&t store the other day. Looks like they have the first generation bugs squished. By the time I'm ready to buy a new one, I'll probably get the fold 4 or 5.

Love the phone. Love it so much I have a second as a backup in case this one breaks (truth!). I love the ability to use the front screen one handed. I love having that big inner screen when multitasking or reviewing/editing large documents. The only thing I also wish I had was a zoom/macro lens. It doesn't even have to be a nice one, just a passable one. But I don't take many pictures so I usually let that slide.

I've had mine since October 2021 and it's been one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had with a gadget. The display is amazing, it's fast, camera is decent enough, I love tablet mode, like really, really love it. I definitely can't wait for the next generation of foldables because it's just going to get better. It's definitely worth buying now however, if your still having doubts.

I bought the Oppo Find N (foldable) as my backup. It's actually a really awesome phone, with features and design choices that I find better than my Z Fold 3. One thing is it's size, it's fantastic, definitely the better choice on Oppo's side to choose such a wide design. It's even better when you use it in tablet mode as it's aspect ratio is 16:9, which means more apps support it better.

for me i like having the 2 phone factor one big one small, so I am never really bored looking and using it. I find when I am home and chilled i use the big screen more but when i am out and about the small screen, If only they can cut away some of the weight it would be perfect.

It’s just an incredible experience. I have been a loyal Note fan since the first Note, but after owning the Fold 3 I can safely tell you that I won’t go back to a slab phone, even to a Note

I've had a z Fold 3 since the 1st month it came out. Great phone but I ended up pre-ordering the S22 Ultra just to test the waters. Been a note fan since the early days. Just received the S22 ultra this week and it's also a great phone. The integrated s pen and bigger battery has definitely tipped the scales in favor of the S22 ultra so I'll be returning the Fold. I will miss that huge screen though!

Had the phone since february, dropped it once and although the front body dented a little bit, the phone is still working well. Been using the bigger screen for media and the smaller screen for calls and short messages. IDK why some doesn't have e-sim but mine does.

I've had the Fold 3 for around a month now, as I had to replace my Note 9 N960N. I can honestly say that it is the best purchase I have made this year. It is such a good device, I can use it for everything from gaming to media consumption for work. It is truly a very versatile device.
The fact that you can use it as a normal phone and open it up to a tablet for a more completely experience blows my mind every time I use it.

Question Upgrading to Fold 5.

I will first have a look at the new Pixel Fold, compare it with the Fold 5 and decide then.
Fold 5 could be the choice, if the pen is integrated in the device and battery capacity is improved.
There's no hurry ...

Only reading the rumours (and I totally appreciate they are only rumours) that it is going to be a be a very similar device to the fold 4 with only a hinge change I'm not going to bother. To me, it's not worth paying the premium again.
I'm still really enjoying my fold 3 and it serves me very well. I've not noticed any slow down or battery drop off.
The pixel fold was tempting but I occasionally use the s pen, which I think I would miss. And given Samsung haven't failed the Fold3 with software or security updates I'm not too bothered.
I will miss their camera though!

Yeah, the Fold 5 is gonna have a similar footprint as the Fold 4. However the crease on the Fold 5 will be less noticable and it will have no gap when closed.

To be honest Samsung has put me off of folding anything, as well as Samsung Products. I waited to get a folder until I thought the tech was mature enough, as someone else said , I'm not buying a gen 1 device. I had the S21 Ultra and it was rad. We switched Carriers and I thought the ZFold 3 would be neat, and it was for the first couple of weeks. After showing it off to everyone that wanted to see it and settling in to normal use, I quickly figured out that I had downgraded while spending way more on the device. The folding quickly became a rarely used gimmick, I would say I used it once or twice a week, that's not Samsung's fault, I should have thought more about my own needs and habits. As a bar phone it fell short of the older s21 ultra in every metric that I cared about, that is on Samsung and Me, I should have done more due diligence. What Put me off of Samsung though is how they handled the Warranty. 3 days before my warranty expired the seam in the fold went and the inner screen was done for. Samsung told me to take it to the Asurion repair shop and they informed me that no mater what it was going to be considered external damage, even though I had never dropped it or over used the fold. I had to replace it, even though it was known issue. I have been with Samsung since the Behold 2, I have had so many of their phones and products over the years and its just a bummer. I almost sold our bespoke fridge over it, but its just so pretty. So nah, I dont think Im gonna buy it. Sorry, that rant came out of no where.

I have been put off folding phones because of how I have to really take care when the phone is opened. I had the bubbling issue with the factory screen protector and after visiting a samsung store to see if I could get it replaced they declined, I like my fold 3 and will use it a little longer but think my next phone will be the s24 ultra when that comes out.

That is not always the case. I had the issue with my inner screen protector and Samsung Repair Center in Zurich replaced it at no charge.
They mentioned, it's done for free only once, the next time, I have to pay 50 bucks to get it replaced.

Wow, how do you NOT use the inner screen on this phone?! I very rarely use the outer screen, and am on the inner one all day. Only times I use the outer one is in the car (it is in a wireless charging arm that comes down from the dashboard next to my Android car unit screen), for the stopwatch while using mouthwash (takes up less counter space folded), and if I'm doing something quick (like turning on a Vibe on my Apollo Neuro device) while it is folded for being in my purse or on a wireless charger. I'm glad the outer screen is there, especially for the Always-On screen to see the time, calendar, and notifications, but the inner one is so much better and more useful for everything. A lot easier to type on, too.
I replaced the inner screen protector with the White-whatever one once (there was a bubble creeping along the fold and it no longer had the anti-fingerprint feature) and it was pretty easy to do. Have had this since a few days before launch day. Another year and some months to finish paying it off, so we'll see what's out then for folding phones, but I usually don't upgrade often.

Especially when it has older hardware, like the Pixel Fold. I might forgo the Pixel 8P and go straight for the Fold 2. That's the only way I can justify spending for two phones.

Rather upgrade to Fold 5 versus pixel fold 1.

Im actually considering to upgrade. I soo far love the Fold 3 as it is and its been a wonderful experience soo far. And seeing news and leaked images of the Fold 5 is making me want to upgrade. There is also the Pixel Fold being launched soon to the market and I also heard that Oneplus is working on one already. I thought Ill wait until all these releases and then opt the best out of the lot!

How good are the Fold devices from Samsung? Do you recommend me getting once cause Im really intrigued by them and I want them to be performing well enough too. Are they optimized enough and do they get slow over time? How is the battery performance? Ive also heard about multiple applications not being well optimized to the Aspect Ratio of the phone since the Main has a big screen, how does this affect the UX and what about the gaming compatibilities?
I would love to know about the requested queries!

The best thing for you to do is go into a store and play around with a demo unit to see if it is good for you. As everybodys opinon of the device is different and it is all based on user preference

How good are the Fold devices from Samsung? Do you recommend me getting once cause Im really intrigued by them and I want them to be performing well enough too. Are they optimized enough and do they get slow over time? How is the battery performance? Ive also heard about multiple applications not being well optimized to the Aspect Ratio of the phone since the Main has a big screen, how does this affect the UX and what about the gaming compatibilities?

They are pretty good in my opinion. Ive been using the Fold 3 for a while now and there is no major complaints as such. Like @iceepyon mentioned, its always good to check it hands-on for a better understanding of the device and your liking towards it.

Okay I get that! Nothing beats a hands-on experience on the device itself so yes, I think I will check the device out in real to truly understand if its for me or not.
But since ya'll have been using the Fold on a daily basis for a while, I wanted to know how good it is on a long term and as a daily driver for daily usage and stuff.
