Hi everyone,
so i'm new in all the rooting stuff and have a couple of questions before i try it for the first time.
i learned that after using the unrevoked u get rooted phone + ClockworkMod. now what about that recovery? is it better than AmonRA ? which one should i choose? and is it possible to use unrevoked and get AmonRA instead of ClockworkMod ?
and if i flash official RUU does it give me stock ROM + no-root + no custom recovery ?
plzz help :c
Unrevoked can flash amonra for you.
I would suggest use clockwork for a while until you feel more comfortable with the whole process of rooting, flashing, modding etc
Clockwork is a perfectly fine recovery to use at first until you later require the extra benefits provided by amonra.
You can go back to stock by running an RUU, first NB!! check the rom your phone is running before you root and see if you can find that rom on shipped roms and download it. Also to consider: is your phone branded or network locked, if so and your exact rom that your phone is currently running isnt available on shipped roms i would suggest creating a gold card then.

You can try both recoveries, they equally function well. Yes, you can use Amon-Ra recovery instead of ClockworkMod with unrEVOked.
To flash back to stock, you will need a Gold Card and you will lose root and therefore not be able to use any custom recoveries.
1)my phone is non-branded and not network locked. do i still need to create a goldcard in case if i wanted to install a RUU and go back to stock ? (if this helps to answer i have an SLCD and this is exactly my ROM right now, found here ofc - RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release)
2)how do i make unrevoked install AmonRA (what i mean here is it fairly easy e.g. just pasting amonra.img instead of clockwork.img somwhere during the process or does it involves some fancy commands) and what 'advanced functions' can it give me that clockworkmod cant ? [maybe some tutorial that i didnt see ?]
3)which new htc sense rom would u recommned ?
4)after i install custom ROM the regular apps will update normally (i mean in market just like on stock), right ?

1) If you're sure you have always been unbranded, use the following RUU found here and execute it to revert back to stock
Note: HTC Sync must be installed too...
2) Make sure USB Debugging is on and then start UnrEVOked WITHOUT connecting your phone. (Right click > Run as Admin if on Windows Vista or 7) Then in UnrEVOked go to File > Custom Recovery and open the AmonRA recovery image file you downloaded. Then connect your phone and let UnrEVOked do it's stuff.
You can flash an alternative recovery with the latest versions of ROM Manager too: place the Amon-Ra recovery image to the root of your SD card, then open ROM Manager and select 'Flash Alternate Recovery'.
3) There are many great Sense ROMs, try them out for yourself and see what suits your needs the most (Hint: the most popular ROMs are normally shown on the first page of the Android Development section of the forum).
4) Yep, also, you will most likely get the newer Marketplace v2.26/v2.27 already incorporated into some of the custom ROMs too. You can also select an option within each app page within the Marketplace to have apps automatically update in the background when you connect to the Internet (although, some apps will still need to be updated manually).
And how do i check if my SDcard is good enough to be an ext partition for Apps2SD+ ?
You can use any standard/class of micro sd card for A2SD+
Simply create an ext partition (i use an ext3 partition) in ROM Manager of 512 MB and the remainder of the space will be dedicated to the FAT32 partition.
If you need to create an ext partition larger than 512 MB, use a Windows based partitioning tool or a Gparted live CD with Ububtu, for example.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yes, when u run stock ruu, you will be unroot and also ur recovery will be converted to stock
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
ok, that would be about everything i had doubts about
thanks to everyone
Hi,
I have done some extensive reading.. but still remain confused.. All i want to do is be able to install a custom rom and a new radio if reqd. Warning: I am coming from WinMo.
So as I understand it correctly, my steps would be (in the order):
1. Perm root it using Visionary+ << is this like an HSPL?
2. Use Easy S-OFF tool << What does this do?
3. Download ROM manager from the market and install it completely << Is this the Rom Update Utility
What is clockwork recovery?
Is this all?
Another question, is my phone still bootable after 1st step? and then after the 2nd step?
Can I just flash another custom rom on top of a ROM?
I read somewhere about a Wipe tool.. is this like a task 29?
Does flashing a stock removes all the permroots and s-off or is this like an HSPL that stays no matter what one flashes?
Is there somewhere in this jungle of thread a step by step procedure to hack into the DHD to install custom roms..

Hi there.
I am new to android as well. You seam to have the basics
1- No this roots your device, so you can gain accsess to protected system files. Dont forget to temproot before permroot.
2 - There are two versions of this. ENG hboot and radio s-off. ENG Hboot is a engineering hboot that gives the ability to flash custom roms and see some system properties, this is removed by flashing a stock ruu. Radio s-off (security off) also allows the flashing of custom roms and is not removed by flashing stock ruu, this can be removed by re-running the tool.
3- Rom manager installs the clockwork mod for recovery, it is also able to flash and manage roms.
Your phone will be fine after step one and two.
My knowledge is limited, but i hope that helps.
Happy flashing
Many thanks man... so i guess Soff is a better tool, as I may want to flash a stock once in a while and that means with S-off i will still have the hack in place..
I will wait for some more ppl to give me some inputs
Merry Christmas & welcome to Android,
Coming from WinMo (HTC Kaiser) to Android (HTC Hero) many moons ago I had the same questions.
original_ganjaman has pretty much hit the nail on the head with his post.
1. Perm root it using Visionary+ << is this like an HSPL?
Click to collapse
By default & for users protection root access to the Android system is not enabled, Visionary+ enables this. No HSPL is more like S-OFF (from memory) HSPL allows users to flash custom/unsigned ROM's.
2. Use Easy S-OFF tool << What does this do?
Click to collapse
The DHD employs a system of protection to protect the System Files & Recovery Partition from being overwritten. With this protection enabled a device is known as S-ON (Security On). To write to the system files & recovery partition we need S-OFF. The Easy S-OFF tool simply runs a set of commands to turn Security Off (S-OFF).
3. Download ROM manager from the market and install it completely << Is this the Rom Update Utility

ROM Manager allows you to install Clockwork Mod Recovery, this is essential to flashing custom ROM's. Some users report that it doesn't work on first attempt, so you may need to flash recovery twice. Its very simple as its the first selection within ROM Manager. RUU's are standalone installers that can be installed simply by connecting your DHD to your computer (ensure all drivers are installed) and running the RUU.exe.
What is clockwork recovery?
Click to collapse
Clockwork Recovery is the system used to install new ROMs. It also allows you to do other things such as backup & restore your DHD to the "Exact" state it was when you made the backup. Also partition your SD Card, Mount USB storage, Wipe your entire DHD, Battery stats & Cache. Some of these functions can be used from within ROM Manager. To navigate within Clockwork Recovery use the volume buttons to move up and down and the power button to press ok.
Another question, is my phone still bootable after 1st step? and then after the 2nd step?
Click to collapse
Your DHD is bootable at every step. Nothing is removed from your DHD by following these steps. Simply permissions and settings are changed within the Android (root) & DHD (S-OFF) system.
Can I just flash another custom rom on top of a ROM?
Click to collapse
You can, but not unless its advised by the Dev who created the ROM. Different ROM's use different bases AOSP (Stock Android) or HTC Sense. Switching between these will certainly need a wipe.
I read somewhere about a Wipe tool.. is this like a task 29?
Click to collapse
I'm unfamiliar with task 29? The Wipe Tool is a flashable tool, much like a ROM that will remove everything from your DHD prior to you flashing a ROM.
Does flashing a stock removes all the permroots and s-off or is this like an HSPL that stays no matter what one flashes?
Click to collapse
Flashing a Stock HTC RUU will overwrite everything that is covered here and return your DHD to stock. There is an exception to this, Radio S-OFF. You only need to do this to flash a new Radio. If you achieve Radio S-OFF then that remains even after running a RUU.
I am unable to link to guide's at the moment but I will add them later. Sorry if I am teaching you to suck eggs here!
If you need anymore answers feel free to ask.
Dude Andy... you are my santa... LOL.. in a very very very non gay way
So now I understand more.. and just to re-cap
Get the DHD.. play around a bit
1. Use visionary to Temp then permroot
2. S-off tool to be used
3. Download rom manager and install with clockwork recovery.
I will read a bit more about the wipe tool.. i think if you say that it removes everything.. like a factory reset or like every thing...? that means technically after a wipe my device would not be able to boot? How would i then install the custom rom?
And also as i understood.. if I flash a stock and with the S-off in step two already, i wouldnt need to worry about anything? and can go to flashing a custom rom easily.. or Radio S off and S off are two different things?
Anyway.. you guys have been much help..

Read everything you can, once you grasp the basics of Android you'll be flying in no time. You would only run/flash the Wipe Tool before flashing a custom ROM. You run/flash the Wipe Tool from within Clockwork Recovery, this is not wiped and will remain after flashing ROM's. It will be overwritten if you run a HTC RUU. You flash ROM's from within Clockwork Recovery. You only reboot once you have wiped and then flashed a new ROM.

Yes S-OFF & Radio S-OFF are different beast's, both are simple to attain but Radio S-ON is not restored after running a HTC RUU.

Thanks again mate!!!
For the wipe tool.. so the ROM is removed.. i was thinking correctly... will need to be in "bootloader" to flash the ROM... I think flashing a stock does pretty much the same..
for Radio S Off.. i guess i should only do this if i need to install a new radio...
Great... Thanks again.. and Merry Christmas to you as well
Hi once again.
You need to be in "Recovery" to wipe & flash a new ROM. Bootloader is used to flash files that cannot be flashed via Clockwork Recovery.
Running a Stock HTC RUU will automatically put your DHD into bootloader, no user input should normally be needed.
You are correct with the Radio S-OFF, there has been a new Radio released so you may want to update to that at some point. Do be careful though, The latest HTC RUU & OTA Update will prevent you from attaining root & S-OFF.
Great mate! Thanks.. I guess I will play around with my DHD in any case for a week or so before I do the rooting etc
I wonder where is the thank button that svetius was mentioning in the forum announcement.. would like to click one for you

I would recommended just using your DHD as it is for a week or so. You may get notifications of updates to your DHD, not Market updates.
Remember the latest HTC Update will prevent you from doing everything we have been discussing.

FAQ
Notes
1. This FAQ is applicable mostly to LeeDroid ROMS. Some of the parts can be explored on other ROMs (Stock or Custom).
2. PLease read the forums linked to this FAQ for much detailed information.
3. This FAQ has been created by taking into the suggestions of many other members who are tirelessly helping each other on this thread and XDA. Credits where due are mentioned. I have merely put it all together. (Ofcourse with some input from my side )
4. Please PM me if you would like to add something to the FAQ.
5. This FAQ is in no specific order other than what came first as a problem to me and was then sorted by troubleshooting.
6. Flashing means installing a new ROM/Radio on to your DHD.
7. Stock ROM: is the official ROM from HTC.
8. About Kernels: Pls note that there no custom kernal for base ROM 1.72. So DONOT Install a custom Kernel.
9. Please note that this is the first version of the FAQ, a lot of things will be done - Open to suggestions!
So we Begin
Q: How do I flash this ROM?
A: To flash this ROM, you will first need to ROOT your DHD, then apply the Radio S-OFF, S-OFF
---Root> Radio S OFF> S OFF (This is the preferred order)
It is highly recommended that you root your device before upgrading from 1.32 base to 1.72 as currently there is no root available for the 1.72
Q: How do I install Clockwork Recovery?
A: The easiest way is to root your phone as above and download Rom Manager from the Market, which has an option to install C'Work Recovery
Q: I have problems in signal and wifi strength.
A: It is recommended that you flash radio 26.04.02.17_M2 to work the LeeDroid base 1.72 Roms effectively.
Q: How do I flash a radio?
A: Flashing Radio - Guide (Thanks to leith51)
Q. I am getting SuperUser error on the LeeDroid 1.3.
A: Please flash the 1.3a file over the 1.3 ROM. Donot Wipe. Or Flash the 1.3b or higher ROM (usual flash process)
Q: I want to run a software/hardware check on my DHD.
A: Dial *#*#3424#*#*
Q: I put the .apk on my SD card but how do I now Install?
A: You will need a file explorer, use Astro (in LeeDroid ROM) or download one from the Market. Using it, go to the location on the SD Card where you have put the .apk and click to install.
Q: I am unable to copy anything from the PC to the DHD.
A: Check that USB debugging is on. Settings> Applications> Development > now turn on Usb debugging.
Q: Can I format my SD card? How?
A: Yes, you can! Be sure to back up the app data folders, otehrwise you may experience some problems with some applications. Connect the phone to the PC in disk drive mode. From MY computer on your PC, locate the phone drive, and format.
Q: I am unable to assign a ringtone to contact!
A: This is a typical HTC issue. The alternative is to open the Music app from all programs, select the song, click on the capacitive menu button and select set as ringtone.. follow further. (Thanks to LeeDroid)
Q: What do you mean by capacitive buttons?
A: These are the four buttons below the screen on your DHD.
Q: I cannot adjust the pic size while assigning it to a contact, the pinch to zoom doesnt work.
A: If you press and hold the corner of the box that appears on the pic while doing the above, ou can actually adjust the size of the pic to be shown. This is the only was known at the moment. (Discovered by prateekgujral.)
Q: How do I get rid of the vibration feedback
A: Setting> Sounds> (Scroll down) to Vibrate feedback << un-check
(Note: If you uncheck this you will loose vibration everywhere, even on the capacitive buttons.)
Q: The sounds on my DHD are quite low.
A: Check in Settings> Sounds> Volume
Q: I need ringtones/ notification tones on the system.
A: The best way to do so is before flashing open the zip (donot extract). Go to /system/media/audio - Drop your .mp3 into the respective folders.
Remember > You have not extracted the .zip, so once you drop it and close the zip, it will be there. Now flash as normal.
Q: Some programs are not responding, DHD is getting slow.
A.
1. Try rebooting (Normal).
2. Check the third party installations and compatibility.
3. Second last resort: Factory re-set and reflash the LeeDroid Rom.
4. Last resort: Full Wipe and flash the LeeDroid ROM.
Q: My Mobile data is not working.
A: Check the settings in Settings> Wireless and Networks> Mobile Networks
If there are no settings, contact your carrier provider to get the settings.
Q: How do I stop the screen from auto rotating?
A: Settings> > Display > Uncheck Auto Rotate
Q: I am playing Teeter but the caliberation is out.
A: Settings> Display> G Sensor Caliberation (Follow instructions).
I'm using a GSM HTC Desire I bought a year ago. Its currently running froyo 2.2. I've used unrevoked to root my phone and did the s-off produce using alpharev a while ago. I'm now trying to flash a custom rom onto it. I read through a couple of tutorials and found out 2 ways to do it. One is to install ROM manager but I have to do a "flash ClockworkMod Recovery" in the software which I don't know if I should do. Another is to download the custom rom and install it through recovery mode by holding on power and volume down.... Is there a difference?
Also reading CyanongenMod installation procedures "3. Update your radio! New radio from HTC 2.2+ roms is required (Desire Radio Thread)." came up and I don't if I need to do this.
Thanks in advance.

Personally IMO i would never use ROM manager. I would upgrade your recovery to '4EXT recovery touch' first, search the forum for the guide, its simple enough.
You should also partition your memory card so it has an EXT partition on it. I would recommend using Gparted to partition the sd.
IMO i would leave the radio update for now.
Search for a suitable ROM to flash, download it, put it on your SD card, go into recovery and flash.
There are loads of guides in the forum just look and follow step by step, if you do everything completely to the guides you will not have a problem.

Hi! The easiest way to install a new ROM it's by ROM manager. You can use the recovery mode also, but it's more complicated.
You can flash your recovery whitout any problem.
ALWAYS remember to make a nandroid backup before installing a ROM in case anything goes wrong.
You should also wipe data, cache and dalvik.
After installing a new ROM, use ROM managers or recovery to make à sd-ext partitions (more space for apps)

Take your advice and go somewhere else. ROM Manager both sucks and blows and just causes problems. The only "good" use it does have is the ability to download ROM's straight to your phone. Otherwise steer clear.

Do not use ROM manager to make backups. Can just cause problems as already stated. Don't be lazy and do it yourself via recovery, now with 4EXT touch it's easier and simpler than ever.
Yes. Go and flash manually. Rom manager is just a middle man that screws up the process. Dont ever use it at least for Desire coz it really doesnt play well with it. Even after you successfully flashed cyanogenmod.

Use this fine guide?
I used this very fine guide when I wanted to go further than HTC would let me. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
And it is maintained on XDA, which is nice.
hello, i just got my first android phone so I'm new to this sort of stuff, though I love being able to unlock hidden potential of different devices, so naturally I discovered the ability to root smart phones and all that good stuff.
The model I have is the Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660M. It's running 2.3.4. Gingerbread version.
I've been reading a lot of guides and for the most part rooting and adding additional utilities like flash, etc. seems pretty simple. However, I have not yet been able to find out how to create a back of up of my stock firmware when I bought the phone in case I end up bricking it, or decide I want to return to stock.
I've read many guides that claim to show how to create back ups and recovery points, but I'm still having trouble understanding it.
To be more specific, I would like to create as opposed to download, a back up of the phone in it's current state which is, as I said earlier, stock. I did a factory reset since I had some stuff installed while I was fiddling with it for the first time.
thx
You have to root it before you can back up stock rom so, firstly you root it (you can find guides here on xda)
Then install clockworkmod recovery: warning: DON'T EVER USE ROM MANAGER TO INSTALL CLOCKWORKMOD ON YOUR GIO, IT WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE!! use one of the recoveries found in xda, you will also find guides to install them there.
Then third; backup in clockworkmod using "backup and restore"

so first of all, what I'm looking for is called a ROM right?
what I don't get though is how come I need to modify the device before creating the backup. Isn't the phone modified at that point? Or is the stock configuration being stored somewhere on the phone that I can't see without clockwork?
You cannot create a backup without the recovery mod CWM Clockwork Recovery Mod. But to install this you need your device rooted (modified so you can modify and view system files)

1 - you don't need to search for a rom to backup your stock rom
2 - you need to root your phone in order to be able to backup your rom
3 - you need to install a more advanced recovery (program "similar" to pc BIOS) in order to do a nandroid backup
4 - after you flash that more advanced recovery (aka CWM -> ClockWorkMod), you backup your rom in "backup and restore" menu, backup. It will then store your rom in a folder.
5 - you should strongly consider after that, to install a custom rom made by many of the devs here on XDA in order to have a better experience with your phone...

+1 That was what I wanted to say
I've already uploaded a stock ROM backup last fall of the same Gingerbread ROM you're running, along with instructions on how to make one yourself or flash mine.
The best advice I can give you is: research, research, and more research.
Good luck,
Darkshado

I use px-cwm-v2.zip recovery.
You flash it using stock recovery.
thx for the replies. I will give it a try.
Darkshadow, whats the thread's name where you posted the ROM and instructions? I'd like to check that out too.
Also, whats a good rom to consider upgrading to? Something that has the ability to play flash videos.
EDIT:
If I understand correctly, roms are basically whole operating systems that have been customized by the developer. So a rom can be already rooted and have clockwork as well as other custom stuff, and I just need to flash it. The alternative to this is to do everything manualy... root the current OS, add clockwork and whatever else. Correct?
Also, I'm not sure yet if a rooted phone has any extra options on it's own, or if it's only a set up that's sole purpose is to allow other applications to be installed who then will give the user better control over his device.
I've run into a little problem.
I'm following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16963172&postcount=1
I've got Odin and the tar downloaded, but when I go into download mode with my phone and connect it to the PC, it says that the device driver was not successfuly installed, and I get no confirmation in Odin that a connection has been made between the phone and the program.
What am I missing?
Thx.
EDIT:
Nevermind, I needed to install Kies. Don't even need to run it. Apparently it has the driver that's needed.
Okay, I've rooted my phone successfully. Now the next step is to install Clockwork and create a back up.
Now that I understand a little bit the way Odin and flashing ROM works, I think it would be better to just download a stock ROM and in case something goes wrong, I can just flash it the way I flashed the rooted one.
(I think I saw a completely stock ROM somewhere for my model but I don't remember where. A link would be appreciated if it exists.)
Correct me if I'm wrong pls.
Also, if I do that, then is there any reason to install Clockwork since I've read that many ppl have issues with installing it and it's riskier than rooting or installing other software.
Right now I think what I'm most interested in is installing Adobe Flash Player 11 or something of the sort that can play flash videos and streams.

taken from the sticky
i'm also thinking of installing cwm
looking at the sticky, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20397988&postcount=8
how outdated is this cwm?
I'm using Opera as my browser so from what I've learned, flash doesn't work with it period. Is skyfire a good alternative?
Also, like I said, I don't think I need the clockwork if I can get a clean stock ROM that I can just flash if something goes wrong. As I don't intend to download many apps or add many phone numbers (memorized instead), a backup isn't really needed.
nvmd, i just went ahead and installed the cwm in that link, there's a 5.0.2.7 though if that is even the newest one
now, i cant seem to backup my phone
it says it cannot mount /system
try dolphin browser

Did you pick the ext4 + rfs version?

Clockwork is not riskier than other things you do. Just follow steps and you see no problems.

its an older version, its 5.0.2.7, theres also 5.0.2.8 but these give some problems after installing/wiping, so some people still use the older version.
Hello guys,
I'm new here. I have the same problem as anonxlg. It says can't mount system. I also used the version from the big thread for new users. Can anyone enlighten me on what to do? I've been searching the forum and google, but can't make it work. I feel like a compleet noob now, and I don't feel special about it.
RJ88
Edit: I kept searching, and finally found a working 5.0.2.7 version. First I had another 5.0.2.7 version, but when I tried to install it didn't work. I finally found "signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4+rfs.zip (Flash from Recovery)" on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421650 (through google actually. I have to get used to this site), and I'm making my backup now.
thanks RJA88, backup worked
edit/update
i used the cwm linked and backup worked, i tried installing cm9 beta8 (galaxyics), and it would get stuck after samsung bootscreen (it flashes a white pick or soemthing before full back screen)
i tried restoring backup i made, and it didnt work, some mount error again
i reverted back to 5.0.2.6 and did the restore backup again, and this time it goes up the the galaxy gio gt5660m screen and just stop..
note that i do not know what the rfs/ext4 is for for the gio if that is what is causing problems
I am wondering what's next after S Off to install Custom Roms, How do I go about doing that?
I am rooted with beaups s-off method.

Go into the original android development section find twrp touch recovery and follow those instructions there.

Since you are a new user I will help you with a little more depth, I hate seeing new users mess up their device. Give me a second to get it together and I will edit this post with some helpful info.
(EDIT)
OK so Follow the instructions on this page ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2416431 ) to get a custom recovery. It's TWRP, and I like it a lot. I love that it's touch, because I remember using amon ra on the HTC Evo and you had to use the volume up & down + power button to navigate the menus and it was sometimes very easy to make a mistake. This touch recovery eliminates that.
Next, go to either the original android development OR the android development section of the Verizon HTC One and choose either an AOSP rom or sense based rom. So far I've used the Google Play Edition rom and now I'm on andy's bonestock and have really liked them both. Make sure any rom you ever flash is compatible with your phone, very, very important. if you don't know, just ask. MOST users on here are friendly and will say yes or no and not give you a hard time.
Roms are very easy to install. Just download the .zip, I download it straight from my phone, but you can also download on your computer and then transfer it to your phones storage. (thanks to andybones advice, I have started checking the MD5 of the rom. Devs include it in thread of the info of the rom here on xda, and once you have the .zip on your phone, use a file manager to view the MD5 and compare it to what the dev has put in their thread. If it matches, you're good. Then boot into recovery and DO A BACKUP OF YOUR STOCK AND KEEP IT!! Everything you need to backup is already checked with TWRP so that's helpful. Once you're done with the backup, then do a wipe. I wipe SYSTEM, DATA, CACHE, & DALVIK CACHE. Then, go back to the TWRP main screen and select install. Find the .zip you want to install and flash it. Some roms have aroma installer so it will bring you to a special screen that allows you to select options you want to have in the rom. check the boxes of the apps/options you want in the rom and follow the 'next' prompts until the rom installs. After you're done, reboot, set up your new rom and enjoy it!
If anyone more experienced than me has any info to add to this, feel free.
Okay so I am kind of stuck, I have tried on Ubuntu, Windows, and Mac, but I cannot get my device to show up under fastboot command. Why wont it? I rebooted into fastboot from the bootloader.
EDIT: Nevermind fixed, I didn't realize it couldn't be booted into the OS.

Just to make sure I have the steps correct:
1) S-Off the phone
2) Unlock bootloader via htcdev or other methods posted on this forum
3) ???
4) Flash a recovery
5) Flash a rom
Are we supposed to do anything between unlocking and flashing a recovery?

Before flashing any rom, you should make a backup, so that you can revert to a prior iworking state, in case the rom doesn't run or doesn't please you.
Can Someone Sticky This, or Create a Thread to Stick This? Then people can be pointed to it.

just went s-off
I just successfully ran Rumrunner on my HTC One GSM and now I am leery about flashing Roms on my device. I'm currently using Twrp 2.6.3.3, and is wiping SYSTEM, DATA, CACHE, & DALVIK CACHE really safe? Cause before I would do a advance wipe for every new install..
And, is there a way to revert back S-on without locking bootloader? Cause every method I've looked up restores to stock..
Thanks in advance!
