I do apologize if this has been addressed before, I just haven't found an answer while searching.
I've had my DINC2 for a few months now.
I actually want to do the OTA updates to take care of an MS Exchange issue I'm having.
The phone is not rooted.
It seems that not matter what I do, when I check for Software Updates nothing is out there.
I have gone into RECOVERY and:
Wipe cache partition
Wipe data/factory reset
Also, I've also done a Factory Data Reset.
My current version is: 2.3.3
Sense Version: 2.1
Software Number: 2.18.605.3
Holding Power/Volume Down I see the following information:
VIDO_W_XB SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.97.0000
RADIO-1-09-01-0622

Am I missing something. Verizon & HTC Tech Support have been nice (but useless).

Hi there,
So I've been using my Vodafone branded DHD for 9 months or so on stock Froyo and then decided to root my phone. After a bit of reading, it seemed Radio S-off was the way to go so I did that on software version 1.32 using Advanced Multi Tools and got Radio S-off and SuperCID. All was working fine however I had to upgrade as I had some Exchange 2010 issues which was fixed in Gingerbread so did the OTA updates which took me to software version 2.50 and now I'm no longer rooted.
So a few questions I have that I couldn't really find an answer to:
How do I get root back on 2.50 considering I've already got Radio S-off?
Do I need the goldcard since it's branded or not? Or just the PD98IMG.zip approach?
How do I get temproot first so I can back up all my data, apps, etc first before wiping or downgrading it? I tried the Temp Root option here but it didn't seem to work.
Here is all the details
Branded on Vodafone - CID was (and maybe is again as I cant check in the bootloader): VODAP021

Would really appreciate some guidance on how to proceed...
You can try using gingerbrick if not use an RUU to downgrade to version 1.32 then use one click root to root your DHD
Yeah you will need a goldcard
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA App
I am not sure you will need to do all that as you already have s-off. That is the most important part. The new hack kit doesn't even require you to downgrade anymore or cause you to lose data. I have been putting my foot in my mouth lately with not so correct advice so I won't say too much more. But I sure wouldn't start over till someone responds that has more knowledge of this. Especially with all the updated tools available at this point.
As Agoattamer mentioned you already have S-OFF and presumably Radio S-OFF too.
The only beast holding you back is attaining root.
I believe fre3vo will root 2.50.xxx.x builds.
From THIS thread, grab the Downgrade.zip from the end of the first post.
Then follow this adapted guide.
Connect Desire HD to a computer. Charge only, USB Debugging enabled!
Open up a cmd and go to Downgrade folder, execute commands:
Code:
adb push fre3vo /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/fre3vo
adb shell
./data/local/tmp/fre3vo -debug -start FBB00000 -end FFFFFFFF

That should root your handset. Now just install SuperUser from the market. You'll probably need busybox too, again grab that from the market after SuperUser.
Let us know if that works.
Credits to jkoljo for the original guide.
@4tifjaved, thanks for your response. Gingerbreak unfortunately didn't seem to work.
@Agoattamer, thanks for your suggestion. I tried what @andyharney suggested but it doesn't seem to have become rooted - e.g. Root Checker still says it's not rooted and I can't use a screenshot application as an example.
It scanned through various regions but in the middle of all the text that it showed, it had:
Code:
Potential exploit area found at address fbb6cc00:1400.
Payload verification failed.
...if that means something?
Any further guidance would be appreciated.
Any further suggestions?
I've searched through the forums but am not sure what to try...
Have you tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821
After reading abit of the advanced ace hack tool it says not to do it if you have s-off but also says it wont brick but you might have some problems. But if it gives your root then you can flash a new rom, etc via recovery.
Ace Advanced Hack Kit worked

Thanks for your suggestion to try the Ace Advanced Hack Kit. I had seen that kit previously but was a bit concerned with the 'Please do NOT run the hack step if you are already S-OFF' note it had. I think the warning is mainly for if it's S-off and a custom rom.
So I went ahead and used it to root - followed the instructions and within 5 minutes was rooted! It's a great kit, worked well and preserved all data.
Thanks for your help!

I've had an Inc-2 since October, rooted since new, no problems until now.
Screwed-up the phone somehow today - honestly can't remember "exactly" what I did to cause this, I was flashing a new ROM downloaded through ClockworkMod. I unrooted the phone hoping to receive the latest OTA update (dumb, I know).
Some (possibly) relevant info:
1) have a backup made through ClockworkMod just a few days ago
2) have access to my wife's totally stock (but OTA updated) Inc-2
3) have the "RUU_Vivo_W_VERIZON_WWE_1.34.605.4_Radio_0.99.01.0225_2_NV_VZW1.92_release_182876_signed.exe" downloaded from Verizon in November.
Here's what the phone "reads" when powered on:

I would just run the GB RUU again first.
Thanks for the quick help!
Tried that, and got a message "battery less than 30%"...
I guess that's a good thing, right? Does it mean RUU "sees" the phone?
-BowRat
I would give this a shot. It SHOULD remove the security warning, if I understand correctly.

The RUU***.exe from Verizon seemed to work to a point, then I received:
ERROR 140: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR
I'll try the RUU mentioned above - could it be that the ClockworkMod recovery needs to be overwritten with "stock", and is it possible with S-ON?
Thank you!

Can I undo the ClockworkMod bootloader to stock without having S-Off? If so, help in the right direction is appreciated.
Fc127 - it worked!!!
Thanks to both of you for your help and support. Back in business and saved me some big $$$ for a replacement.
Glad you got it going. You are now back in stock?

Completely back to stock. Actually re-rooted and kept having issues with updating SU (couldn't find the directory or something like that).
So...ran stock update, loaded ADW Launcher EX and some Beautiful Widgets while I wait for the official Ice Cream truck to arrive.
Thanks again for the help...much appreciated.

your phone is already S-OFF, so you don't need to do run anything at all. Go to the play store, install Superuser and update the binary. Reboot and Voilá...you are done.
Thanks @glevitan.
One question, does it affect me when i upgrade to Android 4 and sense 3.6?
Then i have installed superuser but dont know how to update the binary. Any help?

The binary would be the files that are updated from the superuser app.
If you do the OTA update, I believe you lose root, not too sure with that one.

Yeah, the binary is updated from the app. find it in the options menu. It is not suggested to run the OTA update, you will lose root and if the update comes with a bootloader you will lose S-OFF as well. As far as I know, the ICS OTA will patch all known exploits, so you won´t be able to be S-OFF until a new method is found. Just flash the ICS update as a custom rom and you will be fine.
Thanks you guys for ur response. But lets go back a bit.
In my initial post, i put the info i got from the phone. Now, what does ***Locked (OOW) *** and "IMAGE CRC" mean?
Secondly, is the phone rooted?
Thirdly, i have installed the superuser and read a bit on it and what i seem to understand is that with the superuser app, i can grant root access to apps i want to install that needs root access permission.
But the thing is, i do not see the apps already installed on the phone in the superusers list. Which still brings me to my question which is how do i remove the apps that came bundled with orange that i do not need?
One thing i think i should mention is that when i got the phone, it was using an older android version. and by then i did not know anything on rooting os s-off. I saw that a friend of mine, who also got the same model of the phone, had upgraded to the version 2.3.5. So i also upgraded.
but i think that meant that the phone was already s-off before the upgrade and it still remained s-off after the upgrade. I dont know if it was rooted or not. And if it was rooted before the upgrade, is it still rooted?
I have issues with the navigation after the app was updated with the 3D thing. The app keeps launching on its own and drains my battery. Is this as a result of the whole s-off rooting thing?

Have u rebooted the phone? make sure that after updating the binary you reboot the phone. If SU is not working, then try using SuperSU from play store...to check root access or u open an app that requires that or install terminal emulator and type there.....it will prompt u if you were granted SU access or not.
As far as I can tell, I successfully downgraded and successfully rooted and achieved S-Off. Now, however, when I was going through the initial setup of my phone, there was no signal, just empty bars with an x over them. The phone has no idea who my carrier is, what my phone number is, or anything. When I used Revolutionary it asked if I wanted to let it install Cyanogen recovery and I said yes, then after that is when the problems came. I can get to the boot menu, but the only two choices I have are "Would you like to run the update, yes or no"? If I choose yes, it runs an upgrade and boots up. If I choose no, it only allows me to boot up. I can do nothing else. Here's the info on my phone:
Android Version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version: 2.1
Software Number: 2.18.605.3
PRI Version: 1.94_002
PRL Version: 58008

Please help me! I am totally regretting ever trying to root my phone

I really feel like I just have the wrong radio installed, but I have no idea how to fix it. Also, I could be completely wrong about that anyway.
Well are you currently on VZW? If so, try flashing this updated radio

this may sound silly, but i'm being completely serious. you did remember to put the back case on all the way right?
Hey XDA,
If anyone would be willing to help me out with what I thought would be a simple update, I'd be very thankful...
My carrier is Sprint. Currently on the latest CM11 snapshot and I have been having all kinds of weird issues.. including:
Launcher icons moving / reconfiguring
Loud Beep or Buzz at random times, eg. switching to speaker phone, opening contacts, etc
Phone was uploading at 6mb/s maxing out my wifi upstream bandwidth without any sign of what was doing the data transfer...
Needless to say I'd like to wipe everything and start fresh with CM12.
My recovery screen has the following info:

OS-
eMMC-boot 2048MB
I am on TWRP V2.7.1.0
I've browsed the guides and how-to's and still am not certain what the proper procedure is to update from where I currently am (or where to find the latest trusted source for Sprint M8 firmware)
I'd like to do it manually so I actually learn and know what I'm doing in the end.
Any help? Should my first step be using Fastboot to update TWRP?
If you have S-off I would take a look through the Sprint M8 forum for the latest firmware or start with an recent RUU. Then update TWRP through fastboot and install CM 12 since it is not likely to run well on the older firmware.
