I tried to pre-order the Nokia Lumia 900 by adding a line to an existing family talk plan, however it would not give me the option to transfer over my current number from another service. Anyone else had this problem?
not sure, but it can still be done after the fact as long as you keep you current service active. It will cancel when you actually do the transfer.
Call 800-898-7685 once you receive and activate the phone on the "temporary" number they give you and they will change it to your real number.

thanks, I'll do just that then

I was able to do it. I was asked abut 3 times if I wanted a new number or transfer a line from another service. It was always a really small option but it was at the top of the input information pages.
really? I tried 3 times and I didn't notice any option at all

This is how I usually do it. Especially with a new phone. They make the new number just go away. Its easier in store. But if you have a different phone number to call on, it works just fine.
I just ordered it today at the store, didn't want to deal with the whole calling and getting my number transferred etc. But appreciate the help.
I spent some time on the phone with AT&T reps regarding this same situation. I tried to sign up with Amazon but it would not let me transfer my number. Eventually I ended up speaking to someone in the department that handles the phone number transfers. According to the person that I talked to, because my current number is in a non-AT&T coverage area I would not be able to port my number over. It has something to do with Federal regulations. You may want to check for sure on whether you can transfer yours or not.

I don't know if I ever heard that before. How would they know where your area was. Why would they care. What are the odds, a company that claims to cover 98% of the USA and you fall in that 2%. Your carrier must be Bob's Phone Service or something, for them to not take your money.

I don't think that's the reason, because I have 2 AT&T stores, both <5 mins from my house. I think it has to do more with some website issue.
When I went to the store, the Rep told me he'll have my number transferred the day I pick up my lumia 900. (Ordered the cyan one and I'm excited )

Hello. I had a question regarding how I could get the EVO. I wanted to get on a friends account so it would be cheaper for the both of us. Could I do this while still getting the 200$ pricing ? Thanks!
If one of you is off contract you could move to a family share line and get the discounton the device.
You would get the 200 price if you are adding a new line to your friends account. (Either as a second individual line, or by converting both on to one family plan.)
I am off contract. Currently with Verizon and my mother is taking over my number. So it's easy as that eh ? I will look into that, thank you.
Next question: The person I am going to be getting on a plan with lives in Austin, I live in Houston. How would we go about getting a plan together ? Do we both need to physically be at a store to set it up ?

Okay so I should just send them the money for the phone and get it shipped to me... Simple enough. Thanks.
Or... You could always have your friend call customer service or go into a local store and have him notate that he authorizes you as a user to make changes to the account. Make sure he gives your full name and requests that a manager set it as a priority note. Once he does that make sure that YOU have either the pin number or the answer to the security question and you are set to do whatever you need to do in your own local store or via telesales.
You might want to keep your phone number and port it to Sprint. Sprint has a $100 porting credit that you can get, and it'll cut the price of the phone in half. You can then call up Verizon and have them give you a new number when it's all said and done.
It's worth $100. I'm doing the same for AT&T.
I would do that except my old phone was stolen ( Touch Pro 2 ) and I am still on contract with no intent of canceling my plan yet. I had looked into that but I'd need a lot of money to cancel my Verizon plan. Too poor to do it right now.

Have you seen this in writing? Friend wants to port to Sprint, and I heard rumors about this but can't find the details anywhere.
Also, porting your number over from Verizon, terminates the verizon contract immediately. Then you get your ETF bill.
The details are here...but it says it is for business accounts only...
https://www.sprintportcredit.com/
Just turned up three lines last week, submitted the form for each - may work, may not...regardless, it's worth a shot!
Another question... If I get the phone tomorrow, could me and my friend combine our accounts at a later time and lower the price ?
If you are having an issue getting the Lumia 900 unlocked or trying to set it up on an AT&T MVNO. Please post something here. I started to think about it, when I bought the phone I thought.. ah I will just get it ulocked and bring it to T-Mobile. Then I was told about H2O in the process, even then I hit an AT&T wall. I did not unlock the phone, I am using it on AT&T through a friend so to speak H2O. The network settings app is on the marketplace if you are outside the US, it's not inside the US. I got off the phone with Nokia 2nd tier and he hinted toward AT&T blocking it. Then I started to think about what I was purchasing and how really nothing else we purchase is like this. You buy a car it's yours, you buy a computer it's yours.. why are phones different? I called my class action attorney client and had a discussion with him about it. Nothing may come of it, but if it does I need a list of those in the same boat, you bought the device out right no contract and can't use it outside of AT&T and that includes features like MMS not functional and a simple config utility would fix. Please do not post about how it won't work becuase blah, blah, blah. I just need a list of people so if anything comes of it I can say here is a list of others with the same issue.
Jumping on the bandwagon...

Right there with ya. I however went with Straight Talk which of course I cant use my MMS as well until the unlock comes available. I am curious if I can proxy my wifi to an international proxy so that I can access outside the USA market apps? Anyone have any ideas on this?
You can add me to the list of those that bought the phone at full price. I never called AT&T to ask for an unlock code. Do I need to do that first to prove that I'm at a disadvantage caused by AT&T?

Let's see what he says.. I contacted H2O today, as soon as they realized it was WP7, nope can't get MMS. I saw the pics of the network setup out of US and it has all those settings we need. If we need to contact AT&T I will try that tomorrow, but I think this is a bigger issue.

I know people have been saying to give up calling ATT. But I just called for the first time tonight, and thought I'd share some of the interesting bits I got. Well interesting to me because they weren't what I was expecting in comparison to everyone else's. Anyways~,
~I asked about dates and a supervisor told me that on 5/7/2012, this past Monday, that their notes for the Lumia 900 were updated by corporate.
~What it essentially says is that they can't say anything. lol
~When I pushed a bit more she told me that it was updated to say that they have no expected date as of now for the release of unlock codes. That they won't release any now because it's an exclusive and otherwise ineligible (Which everyone has already heard.). And that customer service reps are urged to not even submit requests because they all will instantly be denied on the spot.
~Also they told me I was the first one they've heard of trying to unlock this phone.
EDIT: Also, I know this was just adding to the pile of. "Reps Don't Know Squat"
EDIT: Meant to post this on the other thread. Oh well~ Anyways~ I'm in too I guess.

For this thread, I don't think it matters. The way I look at it, if they are gonna control where I can use a phone I paid full price for (Even if it was on CL) without a contract. Then they should support it to get my MMS working on their MVNO! Could you imagine if other things you buy where like this. You buy that nice new Nissan Fronteir, you can only drive on Nissan roads. Let's say you bought a GTE rotary phone 30 years ago and you could only use GTE as long distance company we would be like FU I am gonna do what I want!

HHAAAAA~! I SAID THE SAME THING OVER THE PHONE. (Except I used Toyota). They also brought up that I didn't buy the phone directly from them, like that it was a point for them. And I go, "Yeah...that kind of just furthers my point. How does AT&T hold exclusive rights to block me from using something the way I want when I didn't even purchase it from them?) And they just repeated "AT&T has exclusivity and the phone is currently ineligible after that.
Too funny!! I love it.. well great minds think alike or it's just the damn truth. ha ha

OP - you're wasting everyone's time. When you buy a branded phone you know full well that it will be locked to a carrier. Buying the device at full retail does not entitle you to take your device elsewhere. AT&T (and all other carriers) spend months and millions in R&D to develop and test the phone before bringing it to the market, so it is completely logical that they wish to get a return on investment in form of service revenue. In case you're wondering, carriers do not make money off hardware, that's not the business they're in.
There is no rule or law that requires carriers to remove SIM lock. They do it as a courtesy when they see fit, but they are not required to do that by any means. How do you think AT&T was able to deny iPhone unlocks for so many years if it was illegal?
Anyone who bought the phone before checking with AT&T about their unlock policy have no one but themselves to blame, simple as that.

They don't have to post terms on the box, they are usually on the back of the sales receipt. As long as the phone is fully functional in the environment it was designed for, there is just no basis for complaint. I wouldn't spend a dime on the lawyer if I were you. Just thinking logically here, not trying to start a war
so, i put 150 on my prepaid account today so that i dont have to worry about my bill till September. so about an hour later, i get a call from tmobile asking me a bunch of questions to make sure im the one who made the payment. They seemed legit, since they had all my account info for tmobile and whatnot. They asked my billing address and the last four of my social. at the end of the call they said my payment should show up on my.tmobile in about 30 secs. its now been 30 minutes and it still hasnt shown up.
so my question is, was that a legit call or did i just totally give some strangers enough info to rip off my bank account
nevermind, i just hit #bal# and it shows my account has been given the money, the website is just slow
I still would NEVER give out any information over a call I received! That's just not safe. If you placed the call to the tmobile 800 number, yea sure, but I've never heard of them calling you to verify payments! If I were you I would contact T-Mobile to ask them if it was really them, if that's something they actually do (and why??? thats terrible business practice), and if not change all your information.

Im not happy about this SMS I received earlier today:
Just received a message from Telstra.
From 15th December 2016 this Note 7 will start to have its access to Australian mobile networks withdrawn.
This is part of Samsungs recall of the Note 7.
Once this is complete only emergency calls will be able to be made from this device. please turn off your Note 7 and return it to your nearest Telstra store as soon as possible
anyone know a way around this?

The lack of global coordination and consistency by Samsung is simply STAGGERING.
I note this paragraph, from Samsung Australia:
To apologise for this inconvenience and to thank our loyal customers, customers who
exchange their Note7 for either the Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge, will (in addition
to receiving (for outright purchases) a refund for the difference between the two resale
prices) receive a specific partner offer to the value of $250. This offer will end on December
22.
It is ANY wonder people like me here in the UK are hanging on to their Note7's when (a) no IMEI block is being talked about and (b) we are being offered FECK ALL by way of incentive?
Here in the UK we get this : Would you like to swap your Note7 for an inferior in every respect, and soon to be outdated S7 Edge FOR NO REFUND AND EXACTLY THE SAME COST PER MONTH?
Er, No!

The easiest way, but maybe uncomfortable, is to take an addidional phone (not a Note 7) with you. Can be a simple one, but must offer mobile hotspot feature.
Put your simcard inside, activate mobile hotspot, connect to this hotspot with your Note 7 and you can make and receive calls via any suitable voip app you like. Even for incoming calls, it's possible to route your provider's phone number to your voip number. Depending on your rate it may or may not cause additional costs for this call routing.
The other ways depend on the kind of blocking you from network. If it's just made by getting the information from your build.prop you can root your device and edit your model type, so it claims to be S7edge for example, or what you like. If IMEI blocking is used, there are ways around too, but as they may be not legal in some countries, we don't discuss this here. But it's easy to use google to find out ^^
Bluetooth Sim Adapter?
I am in the same boat but with Optus. Pretty annoyed that Samsung would bother with this type of thing at this point in time. Anyone who has bothered to block the 60% battery OTA is obviously savvy enough to weigh up the pros and cons with the device and is more than happy to keep it.
I read they will use the IMEI to block and unfortunately it seems the relevant authorities take a dim view of IMEIs being changed. Bugger.
The idea to carry a separate phone and hot spot has merit to.
Most interested about the bluetooth or dual sim adapter idea. Would that change the IMEI? Anybody has already tried such devices ?

Afaik the bluetooth sim adapters have no own IMEI. So probably the original one from the phone will be presented to the network. Furthermore, a lot of those adapters only support 2G mode for mobile internet access. Only a few already support 3G/4G. So for acceptable data access you will need wifi connection.

yep the UK got screwed, all I got from O2 was a load of hassle and them trying to make me wait weeks before letting me replace the phone, I phoned them a week and a half after they sent the courier to collect my phone and they were telling me it still hadn't been received and processed, in the end I was forced to take a phone with EE and threaten to take action against O2 to get them to release my contract, honestly it was a total screw up from beginning to end with O2 and all the time them telling me "we don't have to compensate you for anything." including the fact that I couldn't even use the service due to them taking my phone away and trying to refuse to release my contract so I could upgrade or even offering to let me get a replacement phone.
so yeah Samsung screwed the UK and left us to the mercy of money grabbing useless networks who would rather piss off their customers and make money instead of actually helping them. but then what could I expect with O2 the firm who originally told me that 3G was a failed technology and would never catch on.
I'm with Optus. If any one has a written around in all ears. Are we sure it's Imei block In Australia? I might have to go back to my cracked screen note 3 till so is released.

Well I say **** 'em. I'm going to use my Note7 until I decide to change it and when I do decide I am going to get a full refund off them, via the courts if necessary.
This entire farce has been **** all to do with concerns about safety (how can it be when there have been ZERO problems in the UK, and yet tumble driers can burn your house down and no-one gives a ****). It's been ENTIRELY about Samsung wanting to protect its image and its stock price, and to hell with its customers. The whole thing stinks.
I am going to go the hotspot route ... until I can be bothered to spend the time to circumvent the blocked IMEI.
So does anyone have a favourite VOIP app that also transfers phone calls from the hotspotted device to the VOIP app on the Note 7 ?

What about skype? You can get a phone number from then, put your sim card in the device using as hotspot, and then make a permanent call redirection to your skype number with the skype app installed on the note.
Depending on your rate it may or may not have additional costs for the redirection. With a full flat rate it should be free of charge.
Thanks Wolf-pack. I have gone Skype (and bought their number) to get voice calls and for texts I have set up Mysms on my hotspot phone and the mysms mirror app on my Note 7.
A pain to carry a 2nd phone but it will do until I sort the IMEI
So my note 7 stopped working yesterday. Went to put the sim in my other phone and the sim was fried. They did not block the phone but they zapped my sim. Now I am without a phone until a new sim ships Tuesday. Isn't this illegal? It is not like they blocked the IMEI, but actually shut down an account in good standing

IT IS ILLEGAL. Verizon is not allowed to do what they're doing.

They are not blocking the phone. I could not even switch phones. The completely blocked my account... In good standing. Really? At that point they are charging for service I cannot use no matter what phone I have.

Not without going into dpp
They zapped your line. The line that your phone was attached to. They did it to me. And they told me that the only way to get my calls text and data back for that line was to return the phone. I returned the phone and I got back everything except text. Can't send text or receive text. Now they can't figure out why. So now I have an s7 edge without text. But I pushed the rep into giving me 100 dollar bill credit. And they said would resolve my problem withing 48 hours. So far it's been 24 hours.
Just crazy. Not sure how they can do that....seems very illegal
They did something similar to my phone line as well. Turns out that they basically flipped the switch on my phone line as if I had not paid my cell phone bill. I was a loyal customer with them for 12 years. Never have I talked to so many customer service reps that treated me like I was a piece of dirt. I made them go through the headache of fixing my phone line, left the Verizon store and drove a block down the street to the Sprint store. Now I am paying half as much for unlimited everything. It will be a long time before I do business with Verizon after how I was treated with them.
I realize that I am just a number to them and my personal account was only worth $2500 a year. But what they failed to realize is that I manage a business account that is currently with AT&T and we are in our renewal year. I was looking at switching that account to Verizon, but not anymore. That account is worth around $65,000 a year. Oh well, it is their loss. But I do hope that a Verizon clown is reading this.

I hope Sprint has stepped up their game for your sake. I was with Sprint for over 12 years and even though they have the lowest price they also had the slowest speed and spotty reception that only worked 50% of the time in rural America. I will never go back regardless of the price.
I have a very interesting workaround which I discovered by accident -- after my Note 7 got "disabled" I put my sim into an iPhone 6 I already had and noticed it still wasn't working.. So I called Verizon and asked them to whitelist my sim again, and they did. Even though it still wasn't functioning in my iPhone, I popped the sim back in my Note 7 while I waited to get a new sim, and lo and behold, my N7 is fully functional once more!!
