guYs,
it's official. the Apple ifone is a piece of crap
in Finnland, Europe, many ifones were destroyed because ifones go broken in temperatures below 0° Celsius.
android-user.de magazine reported that ifones were bricked for good just because it got a bit chill outside.
Y phone of course, was never reported to be destroyed by cold weather.

Ever tried to use an iPhone for a long time at -10 °? Does not really! Not so with the Galaxy S II and at other Android phones: They come with temparatures from -20 ° deal still good.
When it gets really cold outside, not only have some finger problems with the operation of the smartphone, and the devices themselves may not Minustemparaturen particularly well. The editors of the Finnish PC magazine MikroPC wanted to know exactly which phone by holding for which temparatures and sent about 25 devices in a refrigeration chamber.
Among the first devices that had problems or the service refused to completely owned the iPhone 4S. Even at -5 ° first problems were encountered and at -10 ° switched to the iPhone 4S in the testers. This is probably the revenge design with metal. Apple is secured in case of damage, but they are the Betriebstemparatur the iPhone officially with 0 ° to 35 °. Even the likes of Nokia N9 cold temperatures, and shows also at -5 ° first mistake already. After all, it is to turn off only at -20 ° Celsius.
Much more room in the cold Samsung admits to his equipment. Officially, the Galaxy II suitable for temparatures between -20 ° and +50 ° Celsius. So it was as well in the tests of MikroPC through and survived significantly longer temparatures up to -35 °. Generally, the testers came to the conclusion that AMOLED displays are better for cold applications, since, in contrast to conventional LCDs, the liquid crystals are virtually frost. In most cases, therefore, in smartphones with AMOLED display, the battery of the sticking point. Is it too cold, they may eventually no longer produce enough voltage.

Just read this:

Fruit Company applied the patent last August 2010, long before ICS was released.
What would happen if this patent granted?
Note that prior art won't save Google, because the change to first to patent :

F*ck, I hate this patent thing especially done by this Fruit Company!

No, Google would have to be copying it exactly the way Apple does it. Apple is talking about 3D stuff.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Chill. Just chill. Its not as serious as you think.
It would be completely ridiculous if the fruit company were awarded that patent since patents are only supposed to be awarded for the non-obvious. This kind of implementation has long been obvious since bio-metric technology has been around for over a decade. This is just one spin / flavor of that.
Patent and copyright law is killing the US... just plain stupid.
face unlock is b.s. anyway. i tried it out and found there were times when it couldn't even register my face & had me enter in the password... that and yeah, it does seem to have difficulty telling if it's actually you in front of the phone or a picture of you.

The man who created it was the one who ran PittPatt and whom Google bought. The patent was approved in 2008 and filed in 2004.

Face Unlock is a pretty old thing. There was computer software doing this already many years befor we had Android or iOS Devices. It's just another weird patent of Apple.
Even the way in the Apple patent to take the ratio of eyes, nose and mouth doesn't look new to me. I mean every crappy Webcam Software is doing this to recognize the parts of the face and do those weird big nose, big eyes, alien head and such effects.

Just FYI, we're holding a contest that may be relevant to your interests:

Good luck!
This IS relevant to my interests. Good looking out.
Cool contest. And its good to know that there is a guy that is printing custom ones. I've had some ideas running through my head that I was wondering if they could get done.
Thanks. Entered!
Can it be done with experiences of other devices too?

The most important part is not the amount of power (or pulse energy) but the pulse duration (you use pulsed lasers for this kind of stuff). If the pulse duration is shorter or almost as short as the heat transfer duration between the atoms/molecules, melting is not a problem any more.
The pulse is "gone" before the heat can effect the nearby matter. You will get really sharp edges.
To win this would be awesome but I've never had any problems flashing anything so "unfortunately" I can't enter the competition, on the other hand I'm fortunate to never had any devices bricked!

Quick update for all who entered...
Just a quick update for all those who entered:
We received over a hundred contest entries, most of which were quite epic (perhaps even of the 4g variety)! Picking just 20 winners (10 GSM, 10 CDMA/LTE) was tough, so I added in 3 bonus winners who forgot to write in what type of Nexus they own, but still provided excellent stories. I will send those three an XDA-Developers T-Shirt instead.
Winners will be announced in an hour, at 11:30a Eastern time. At that point, I will shoot off PMs to the lucky few who had the most entertaining and spine-tingling stories asking for their mailing address.
Thank you to all those who participated in the contest. It's amazing how many crazy tales our mobile devices bring us!

But this technology is possible by capturing ambient light from both manmade sources and the sun and converting it into energy that can be used to recharge a device's central battery unit.

...and furthermore it takes much more energy to manufacture a photovoltaic cell than it will ever reproduce in it's effective working life time. Plus the damage to the environment involved in the processing of the chemicals used to make these cells is something the solar panel industry doesn't want you to know. It's one of the reasons the world isn't solar powered yet.
The other one being that even the high-end (expensive) ones that only drop 1% efficiency per year, will see you wait approx 10 years before they've paid for themselves. Few people take the risk of needing to be in one place for that long just to see a return on their investment.

1) I run google free. The presence of the "assistant" was the part of the google spyware system that finally convinced me that it was time to get rid of it all. You should be very cautious about allowing anyone to spy on you. Read some George Orwell -- what they are ACTUALLY doing now was at that time seen as an unbelievable overstep.
2) I stopped wearing watches when I got my first cell phone. Why do I need to carry two things that do the same thing? The phone is a lot more convenient since it has a much bigger screen.
The whole idea of a "smart watch" is a gimmick. Don't fall into it.
Google might get into the smart watch game to compete with Apple and Samsung. I mean, it is logical. It is a good move to get into that market. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple starts making electric cars.

I wish people could figure out that electric cars are not as "environmentally responsible" as they're made out to be. The reason Musk makes them comes down exclusively to the fact that you can't run an internal combustion engine on Mars. Tesla is a hell of an R&D lab for that.
