Games laggier on 4.0.4 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

am i the only one experiencing more lag and slowdowns in gaming after the update?
not sure if it's a kernel or rom problem.

Dito.

some stuff are messed up, maybe they are related due to the compatibility.

I get a bit of lag on fruit ninja paid

No issues with Angry birds space or Wind up Knight, haven't tried any others yet.

no lag here, what games? its most likely app compatibility.

I don't really play much and OPs claim is very vague but I quickly installed Temple Run and it runs flawless. Also the not very demanding games like Cut the Rope and Where is my water run without problems so far. I recently bought Shadowgun for my Tablet. Maybe I'll try that later but I have no comparison to 4.0.2/3 with this game.

I used to play temple run on my 4.0.3 very smoothly without any lag. But after upgrading to 4.0.4 bugless beast it has become very choppy and almost unplayable when there are many coins.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA

actually. what kernel is OP using? are you using a OC'D GPU kernel? switch back to a kernel with stock GPU (384mhz)
i have NO lag on temple run.

Stock GPU is 307mhz.
That said, there is no lag here either.

I am using stock kernel. It lags when running over the red coins or using power ups at high speed. What CPU governor are u using?

Temple run lag

Has anyone noticed lag while playing temple run on cm9 or aokp? When on android revolution hd theres no lag at all. I really like the extra features on cm9 and aokp, but the speed and fluidity of android revolution forces me to come back.

Change governor and choose Interactive. Then the result would be smooth as silk.

Slowdown
Yes, I have the same problem too.
Is not just lag, is slowdowns during gameplay. And the swipe problems I have it too, but I think is related with the slowdown, it takes more time to react so you loose.
If you have play on an iPhone you can notice the difference, is smoother.
I have friends that can do 10 million points on iPhone but on my Galaxy Nexus they cannot surpass 1.5 million.
I'm running stock.

I have crossed 5.5 million. But I can't go on anymore. I would suggest to try a different kernel and use Interactive governer for your kernel.

1.5 is pretty darn easy to pass on this phone...conversely, I get nowhere near that on my daughter's ipod...so thats not really scientific evidence. It just so happens they are used to one device, rather than another.

[Q] Roms and gaming

Hi all!
I wanna ask you something about gaming with this powerful smartphone: all of us are trying many roms, MIUI roms, CM9 roms, Sense-based Roms, Leedroid, ARHD etc with a lot of kernels, EP kernel, Franco Kernel, Bricked Kernel...
Which couple Rom- Kernel is the best for gaming? In all the Sense- based Rom I've seen that Shadowgun v1.1.2 [ tegra3 effects ] have some lags while firing at the enemies... Or fruit ninja lags when I put a finger for cutting fruits...
Can you answer this? Remember, battery life is important, but this Tegra3 is meant for gaming... Go to see what is coming: Renaissance Blood, an example.
Thanks in advance.
I am using ARHD 6.0.0 and with stock rom all games are running perfectly.

ARHD? What kernel are you using?
Don't think the rom makes a big difference. Saw an article yesterday on the xda portal where a person has a way to optimize the gpu. It was called v6 supercharger.

V6 supercharger doesn't do anything to the graphics processing unit(gpu)... It is a script that changes the oom(out of memory) values and optimizes them for better e.g. Multitasking .. By the way editing oom values is useful only in low ram devices...

Maybe the rom cannot make a lot of difference, but now I'm on Insertcoin and games are not flawless as I was thinking. Before that, I was on Miui release, and seems to be best for gaming. Must try all of that, now try ARHD. Thanks, forumhookerdotcom

I know it doesn't do anything to the gpu, but it allows you to use a higher processing power. It sets the minimum values to 1ghz. Apparently some games which don't optimize tegra 3 is sometimes jumping around with the amount of cpu it uses. For example from 1.2ghz to 600mhz. That is apparently causing the game to lag/stutter. Some games only use 1 - 2 cores.

You're right they do make a difference. I think in General the small/lite roms do work best for games. Will also try ARHD sometime, waiting for latest Leedroid first. Want to upgrade and restore later to Lee's rom.

The phone only uses one or two cores because it only needs one or two cores. What the problem probably is is the switching of CPU frequency slots

Amazing Spiderman lagging for anyone?

The game seems to be lagging quite badly on my Nexus 7 whereas its pretty smooth on my Galaxy Nexus. Running motley's kernel with GPU at 484Mhz and no OC

Yes Ive been wondering the same thing tried it last night and it wasn't necessarily laggy but more choppy in parts .... Im going to try batman today and see if its the same
Im running stock, with trinity kernel OC to 1500, no GPU OC my scores were 6900+ so it maybe is the game in some parts?
Did you guys check the force gpu option in the developer settings menu?

yes, lots of people hitting over 7 k
I keep it at 1500 myself, but tried at 1640 with fsync faster, cpu online and force gpu rendering with trinity kernel and stock rom gets you past the 7 k mark, try it
back on topic, seems like batman ran fine not the type of choppiness that was in spiderman, seems like its a game issue.
It's very laggy. Batman runs great but for whatever reason spiderman runs horribly for me.

yeah, same here, the game seems to lag a lot when spidey is swinging and when too much action happens. I am glad it's not just me then, I was so surprised, thinking if a quad core nexus tab can't handle it, what can?

Bst gaming optimized kernel?

I know each kernel works different but they also are optimized for different things. Which kernels are best optimjzed for intense gaming. Such as playing deadtrigger with the tegra3 graphics settings on.

Now this is just me.. the nexus runs fine either way with you try to play, what makes me say this is the no lag in N64roid when playing Zelda.
But for the best way to avoid lag? Most kernels are the same and I don't know much about the kernels.. well the advanced stuff.
But from my understanding Performance plus Overclocking usually 1800* will pretty much avoid the lag, I've played Dead Trigger with full detail and haven't lagged at 1036*.

It lags with glados with me. But nit with regular "high" settings. Also glados lags with most games for me. All the kernels are diff tho. Most are optimized for battery as ppl complain about that the most. So its hard finding the opposite. Im trying ti find one to play the Tegra3 "ultra high" settings without such high lag

The galaxy nexus should be able to play any games out there besides the tegra 3 optimized ones of course lol. Emulators work great as well. Honestly, no apps use the superpower of the S3 yet so I'd still consider this high end.
