Try both and see. You should be able to figure it out in 30 minutes or less. No 2 phones are the same. No one can say what's best for you aside from you.

well i live in NYC but i just wanted to hear the opinions you guys had on moth modems.
I am in buffalo and right now am going to try all the modems out to see which ones work best for me. So if you live in the very tip of new york or the neighboring towns you may benefit from my update later.
---------- Post added at 08:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:24 PM ----------
Okay so if you live high up north near the Canadian-Buffalo border this may help.
Blaze4g modem : The download and upload speeds are shot. Not even getting 1mbps in download and the upload is struggling to even reach Edge speeds...Its a no go.
Rogers Skyrocket modem: *I think this should be the best modem because tmobile and rogers share antennas here, sometimes my phone goes automatically into roaming lmaa*--- well, i guess my phone has something in it that does not allow my to use it, or is messing up the phone. I tried to wipe everything and fix perm, and dalvik...nothing. Getting reboots.
Telus: Much better...still not as great as the stock Tmob modem. getting 3mbps back from semi3g speeds.
Tmobile: Back to almost 4g speeds, its buffalo NY...4g is not really here near my school.
i use KID on mine, it's the most reliable of them all
the new one LB7 is not bad either
How are we testing?
Signal strength? Speedtesting?
Something else I missed?
If so, I don't notice much of a difference between the release modem, the newer one, and the blaze extracted one. I was slightly disappointed, but probably because of my test location (In a basement).
For some reason when I load the KID modem, my phone drops calls like crazy. My phone came with the KL1 modem loaded on it and it never gave me any problems.
The sucky part is, every new ROM comes with KID.
When I flash back to KL1, everything is fine again however I lose wifi calling. Is anyone else out there using the KL1 modem with your newer ROMS?

The biggest talk around here has been this EKO2 Modem. Devs have been scrambling to find a way to get back to EG30 so that we can flash the EK02 modem.
Now let me ask the most important question here: How is this EK02 modem?
I have been on EG30 modem w/o seemingly no LOS. I have been on stock rooted, StrongSteve's and now Venum's ROM. I'm yet to encounter any LOS.
For you guys on EG30 who have not really had any problems have you upgraded to EKO2? If so what were your results?
we have a eg30 modem now, a true eg30!
eg30 tar is HERE
But wasn't the big deal about the EG30 Modem the ability to flash the EK02 modem since that couldn't be done from EG31?
Yep. That and the ability to return to full true stock

Yes, but a leak was uploaded last night. The leak is a official tar of EG30 ROM/Firmware Image. This allows us to roll back to EG30 from EG31, or EK02, and EG12.
From the guys coming from EG30 to EK02: do you see any significant differences?

I saw no noticeable difference aside from flaky WiFi connection. The Sprint community forums have people complaining of slower data after the OTA, no data, etc.. It seems to be hit or miss, so I would recommend making sure you've downloaded the EG30 tar in case you decide to go back.
I was on EG30 and moved to EK02 when it leaked about 2 weeks ago. I never had LOS on a EG30 stock kernel, although I did a couple of times on a custom compiled kernel. Still, the areas I frequent around San Diego aren't very LOS prone it seems.
However, after moving to the EK02 modem and stock EK02 kernel, I drove up through central California for the Thanksgiving holiday, through many dead zones and roaming areas. If anyone has ever driven up Interstate 5 from SoCal to NorCal, you know what I'm talking about regarding cell signals. Not one single LOS on the way up or back. If I'm going to get LOS anywhere, it's where every breath I take smells like cow ****.
Otherwise, I've found signal strength and stability to be about the same. My overall take is, there's likely an improvement somewhere in there, but for people like me that didn't experience problems on EG30, it'll be barely noticeable.
What I'm looking forward to however is going back to a custom tweaked kernel now that the EK02 source is available. That'll be the true LOS test ... for me anyways.
Ek02 complete ROM and modem is great. Signal seems more stable (no jumping to no signal to full signal), no LoS, speeds are about the same

Ugh, heres my experience:
Had eg 30 first, los was there, about twice a day. Flashed eg 31, los was horrible but signal was better. Flashed back to eg30 yesterday and flashed the ek02, los is better than eg31 but worse than eg 30. So looks like I'm back to eg 30 and the los script. Gotta say, I think I'm done with samsung after this phone. Between this issue and the basically worthless life my og epic lived, I'm looking at making the switch back to htc.

Right now I am on calk's 2.0.1a with the EK02 and the EK02 modem. The interface has been pretty glitchy but it might have to do with me running the new adw launcher ex update.
I went to disneyland tonight and I had the strangest thing happen... it showed no bars with a 3g signal, then it went down to an edge signal, back up to normal 3g with bars. It would continue this cycle even though I was sitting in the same spot. I restarted with no changes. Starting to doubt this ek02.
On eg31modem with the stock eg30 kernel it was running like butter.

I wouldn't switch if I were you. This is honestly a great phone. I just left the best HTC sprint has at the moment and I am a lot more happy. The fact is the more stuff they cram in it the more stuff can and does go wrong. Do you think someone's electric window motor went out in their car 50 years ago? The only phone your going to find with zero problems is a tin can and string. Samsung has the most solid hardware out now, period. The software is subject to human error. Give it time. I am running stock everything rooted and I have much much better signal. My wifi has and still sucks but it works. But, if jump ship I would just have another phone with different issues. Do what you want, but you will never be content.

This will be my last Samsung phone as well. But I wont say too much cause I knew what I was getting into from the start.
Im locked in roaming and on the EG31 radio, I haven't had a LOS in weeks. Im bout to do the PRL hack next. Its definitely a sprint tower issue.

Make sure to check network.sprint.com to see if they are performing upgrades in your area. If they are, give it a bit of time, then make a decision.

I did and there wont be any, well see what happens and how long they'll allow me to roam. I can get an obscene discount with T-mobile through my job anyway if Sprint drops me.
I went from stock EG30 in the Chicagoland area where I would get LOS multiple times a day, to the leaked EK02 and in several days time I have yet to have one reception issue or LOS.
Seems to be good to go. 4G seems to be able to kick on and connect faster as well.
Did not see any previous treads that mentioned this condition.
Its been going on for a while since I started flashing ICS. Three different builds by different Dev's and I get the same results Slow download speed and CRAZY fast upload speeds, with good 3G and 4G connections, I live in a metro area with tons of anteneas and towers around me. Using control Epic (Wifey's stock Epic) on same networks while running speedtest at the same time on both Epics.
I still get data, but its butt slow while stock Epic just wizzes along with Youtube, play store, Emails, whatever it is concerning data. This time around WiFi is not affected that works fine on both phones, streaming, downloading, both are equal. On on build i had reverse WiFi speeds also, but not this time.
Anyone come across this BUG??? Currently running Calk's E4GT 2 v1.2, FC18 Modem, ICS 4 ICS theme. Great looks fast Rom everything works, (kinda)
Rouge recovery.
When I revert back to stock/rooted EL29 all is normal again. Fast D/L - slow U/L.
Pp.:confused
PS. Second time around with this question.
Common where are those android brains, is this stumping you guys!!!
Give it your best shot, I'll consider any idea or suggestion. Don't just look , post.!!
try changing your modem?
Will try fc22 see how that works. maybe reflash rom too.
did it work?
No. Still the same. Luckely I'm around WiFi most of the time. On FC22 modem. Now.

I'm having the same problem. I'm also in a metro area (NYC). Fast data on stock/gingerbread ROMs. Slow data on any ICS roms. and i mean slooooooow.
I've flashed multiple ROMS, kernals and modems, no avail.
I actually get decent speeds in Manhattan (but not stellar) but in Brooklyn (a mere 12 miles away) i get .10 Mb speeds, no exaggeration. I find it hard to believe that someone is going to tell me that Brooklyn won't have the towers i need for decent data.
Wifi works perfectly on both ICS and GB.
We can't be the only two having this problem. I've googled it and searched the forum but I can't find an answer. Could it be that ICS isn't officially out for the e4gt yet so the ROMs are having flakey service?
Please help, anyone.
On a side note thought, the ROMs that I have tried have no other major issues for me. great job to those who developed them!

My signal strength is jumping around like crazy...from -106dBm then back up to -64dBm...and everything in between, in a matter of seconds. This has been happening since FD24.
I have been using Sfhub's stock rooted nodata roms. I tried the FD02 kernel repack with rougue recovery on FD26 rom & modem, and it seemed to jump around alot less.
Could the kernels be the issue? Or the modem? or the Rom itself?
Update for FF02:
FF02 seems to be better for now...will do some tests later. I had it jump around only once yesterday.
Try throwing your phone at the wall, fixed mine

If it is jumping fro -106 to -64 and back, it is probably scanning because it lost signal. When you first boot your phone, often it exhibits the same scanning behavior.

That's what I figured...and that fact is absolutely murdering my battery life.
You think a data reset will help?
I wouldn't say there is a great chance, but the possibility exists.
The "cleanest" install possible is the following:
1) install Full ODIN OneClick
2) remove external sdcard, if any
3) from android, format internal sdcard
4) from android, perform ##786# reset (providing your MSL, which can be retrieved via "getprop ril.MSL" from terminal or adb shell)
If you format your sdcard, make sure you move your backups to your PC or other external storage.
What does the ##786# reset do exactly?
Rinzler said:

It resets NVRAM as well as your Android user data.
You dial ##786# in the dialer on a stock rom.
It will reset stuff like your phone #, your data login, and other values stored in nvram.
It will cause your phone to perform hands free activation at the next boot, which will populate that information again as well as update profile and prl.
Hands free activation only works on Sprint's native network so don't do it in a place where you can't reliably get signal.

happened to me right after i flashed fe07 modem. i moved back to fd26 to see if its the towers or modem. all seems fine, but i will be keeping an eye over the next day.
FE07 had absolutely abysmal 3G data speeds. It took so long to download the Facebook app update that I immediately flashed an older modem to check against it - FC24 runs like a CHAMP.
I tested fe07 for a day or so. I didn't notice much other than it would drop to 1x often. I ran a speed test 3/4g between fd26 and fe07. Fd26 clearly performed better for me. I went back.

I got the "you roamed too much call" yesterday. I don't force roam ever because I'm in FL and force roam doesn't work here with sammy phones.
I was running several of the recent modems last month and used 5GB of data roaming. Almost 100% of my data. Was the first and only month this has ever happened....in 8-9 years. I reverted back to older modem and roaming stopped. This was on top of the fact that I keep wifi on at all tines at home because my house is a dead spot. I also have an air rave (whatever its called).
I only listen to music, email and surf web. Quite surprised by the call.
I explained to rep that I only go to work and home. That for whatever reason home and work are dead zones. Of course he checks and tells me coverage is great in my city. Then he says sprint can boot me, or I can ask to switch for free. Told him I didn't want either. His solution was for me to put setting for roaming sprint only. I asked him how I would use my phone if I only roamed sprint? No answer.
Very frustrating since I wasn't force roaming, have 6 lines and can't afford other carrier and I actually like sprint.
Sent from home How do I turn my phone on?
My phone came with El29, and after seeing loss of signal often I started experimenting with modems. Tried fd19, fd24, fd26, and fe07, and I still get bouts of loss signal. It's not an issue of bad reception, because my OG epic has no signal problems.
Hows the signal on FE10?
Can anyone tell me if you can run the same ROMs for these two phones. I will be getting the SGH-T999V on Wind Mobile in Canada. But I'm a little concerned for developer support for this phone, in which case I may get the SGH-T999 instead. But it would be much cheaper and easier to get it from my own carrier. So if anyone can let me know typically if the Canadian version of T-Mobile Galaxy S series phones are able to run the same ROMs, it would be much appreciated.
Hey. I just got my s3 from Videotron, it is also the v model. Personally, I would wait until the Canadian versions are out. Just this noob's opinion.
I'm also wondering this, but I've seen some posts saying how the modems of the SGH-T999 and the SGH-T999V are incompatible which means that a lot of ROMs won't be shared from the T-Mobile version to the Videotron version
Does anyone know the answer to this? pls and thanks.

You are wrong. I got my T999V from Wind canada, wiped and flashed TMOUS stock ROM right over it. Its been working solid so far.
Tried a couple of other TMO ROMs also but am a stock ROM kind of guy.
Average speed of 8Mbs download and 2.25Mbs Upload in the DC area.
I intend to flash TMOUS stock modem this weekend and see if the speed would crawl into the upper 2 digits.
IMO it is essentially the same phone w/ same internals. Only reason for getting was to stick with my grandfathered $5.99 T-Zones which works PERFECTLY with the thing.

How do I sound like one? Saying one "is wrong" Take it easy cowboy. All I stated was my experience with the phone. No need for name calling.
On a lighter note, it seems the modem are totally different thus a Tmobile modem baseband would definitely not work on a wind or Mobility variant and would render the phone unusable. In conclusion Roms could be shared but modem/radio files can't be shared. Again I am stating my experience, "no need for anyone to wet their pants"

You could've stated your experience without starting the post with "You are wrong", period and all. Try responding to someone else stating his/her experience in a real life conversation with those three words before anything else and let's see how many people would think you sound like a douche. Not wetting my pants here or anything man, just sayin' that you came off sounding like a real total douche right off the bat.
But back on topic here, as soon as someone pulls the modem files off the T999V model, I'm sure a lot of the devs will update their ROMs to be completely compatible with the WIND/Videotron variant.
The majority of roms you run into will not include a radio. So when you flash the rom your radio will remain untouched.
It will be noted in the OP for the rom if the radio is included. If its not mentioned its generally safe to assume its not included.

i tried different modems and i found the number one for my galaxy s3 that is L10VPBLIF,,so for 3g is very fast and keep my signal vey strenght ,,,what about u?....
The optimal modem will be different from person to person based on location. LIF might be best for you, but it might not be as good as LIH(for example) for someone somewhere else.
I personally don't notice enough of a difference to care, I try to download large things on wifi anyways, because it always seems faster than 4g
It's mostly placebo anyways.

And best is what is best for you. It is different for everybody.
I can tell you with CQI, RSRP, and RSRQ numbers to back it up that LIx basebands are better than LJ7 for LTE. Why Sprint went with whatever they did in LJ7, while being FAR better than ICS basebands, disappointed me. I know this because I have mapped 63,839 data points in Sensorly in the past month for a realistic LTE coverage map versus Sprint's flat-out lies they show on their own map.
Mutiny,
Do you publish that information anywhere? I'd like to see what you've mapped in KC.

I too would be grateful to see what you've compiled...

I have been trying a variety of ROMs and Modem. For instance, tried the LJ7 modem yesterday and that just didn't work. I couldn't get a decent data connection on 3G or 4G. Then I went back to the LI3, which I had been using for a while and I had a great 4G connection for a while. Then it dropped out and no matter what I have done thus far I can't get it back, even when I step outside where I can usually get a signal. I mentioned to someone yesterday it's like the Sprint LTE service is operating like a rotating airport light (the green and white lights that I recall from my youth I watched race across the night sky). The beam of service sweeps by and you get it for a flash. I'm really missing the consistency of WiMax on my EVO.
I have been a Sprint customer since late 1997 and to date I can't recall a more frustrating episode with a system roll-out.
I ran across this DSLReports article too and thought it was interesting. http: // goo.gl / ntXCC
Thanks for your post and if you share your research count me among the highly interested.
