[Q] Download and Upload speeds swaped !!! - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Did not see any previous treads that mentioned this condition.
Its been going on for a while since I started flashing ICS. Three different builds by different Dev's and I get the same results Slow download speed and CRAZY fast upload speeds, with good 3G and 4G connections, I live in a metro area with tons of anteneas and towers around me. Using control Epic (Wifey's stock Epic) on same networks while running speedtest at the same time on both Epics.
I still get data, but its butt slow while stock Epic just wizzes along with Youtube, play store, Emails, whatever it is concerning data. This time around WiFi is not affected that works fine on both phones, streaming, downloading, both are equal. On on build i had reverse WiFi speeds also, but not this time.
Anyone come across this BUG??? Currently running Calk's E4GT 2 v1.2, FC18 Modem, ICS 4 ICS theme. Great looks fast Rom everything works, (kinda)
Rouge recovery.
When I revert back to stock/rooted EL29 all is normal again. Fast D/L - slow U/L.
Pp.:confused
PS. Second time around with this question.

Common where are those android brains, is this stumping you guys!!!
Give it your best shot, I'll consider any idea or suggestion. Don't just look , post.!!

try changing your modem?

Will try fc22 see how that works. maybe reflash rom too.

did it work?

No. Still the same. Luckely I'm around WiFi most of the time. On FC22 modem. Now.

very strange

I'm having the same problem. I'm also in a metro area (NYC). Fast data on stock/gingerbread ROMs. Slow data on any ICS roms. and i mean slooooooow.
I've flashed multiple ROMS, kernals and modems, no avail.
I actually get decent speeds in Manhattan (but not stellar) but in Brooklyn (a mere 12 miles away) i get .10 Mb speeds, no exaggeration. I find it hard to believe that someone is going to tell me that Brooklyn won't have the towers i need for decent data.
Wifi works perfectly on both ICS and GB.
We can't be the only two having this problem. I've googled it and searched the forum but I can't find an answer. Could it be that ICS isn't officially out for the e4gt yet so the ROMs are having flakey service?
Please help, anyone.
On a side note thought, the ROMs that I have tried have no other major issues for me. great job to those who developed them!

Bump I have this issue in Washington DC and I thought T-Mobile 3g on crack sucked

They are upgrading the towers in Brooklyn. I received a letter a few days ago.

I know sprint is upgrading the LTE towers but a far as 3g/4g speeds is that the reason also?
Why do gingerbread ROMs work but ICS ROMs do not in BK?

Update profile always seems to fix issue temporarily. Sprint is just awful right now

Ive had the same issues. No real giid modems for me either. Ive tried 90 percent of the modems. The one where I get best service is the ff11 modem. Remember to update profile and prl.

[Q] EL30? Bugs!?!?

I know every epic is different. I know your modem deals with 3g speeds and 4g. I know we have different towers. I know this. But what i want to know is some of your opinions about your personal experiences with the new modem. How is going for you? Was it worth the "upgrade" from ei22? Experiencing any bugs? Performance?...I would have to go thru a lot to flash it so b4i go thru it all, i would just like to know what you guys think. Thanks!
On an Airave 2 I get about half the data speeds as I did on EI22 and EC05. YMMV

I was not able to connect to 4g at all after flashin to EL30. Anyone else experience this?
I have wifi jumping on and off w el30 update. Not super happy. Never did it on anything other than el30. Yuck. I used Odin. Anyone else getting same thing?
Edit: after flashing different el30 rom's last night and having wifi issues w all of them I chose to Odin el30 today and much to my surprise...wifi problems. I reset my router and everything is fine. Very odd as no other Tom caused this issue and other phones and devices connected fine. Crisis averted haha
I had that with signal and 4G, my wifi was fine.

WHAT???
Since I've made the jump to EL30, my 3g speed has been as good as 4g speeds(had I had it in my area), GPS is pretty good(alot better with GPS fix), With GPS Status, I got 10/11 locked Sats inside my house. 6/7 before installing that. battery life...considering i'm using the 1800mah from the touch, is great. Haven't tried with the 1500mah cause it's almost 2yrs old.
On another note, there was a issue that I'd like to point out. I checked my Market apps and found 2 weirdly named apps that's been renamed as 2 of the systems' apps...Video player and system updates. Which had a review of 1.5 because they were consider as spyware by 100% of reviewers. I had to use TB to first freeze, then uninstall them both to get them removed from my Market apps list. No other way would even work.
Other than that, Stock, Rooted, Doedexed EL30 Rom is great for me. As they say, YMMV.
I get higher TWS percentage with EL30 than with EI22 modem. I'm averaging between 5-15% TWS on EL30, whereas on EI22 I would average 1-5%.
There are many times when I wake the phone up and i'm at 0 bars, then it takes a good 20-45seconds to get between 1 and full bars. (Depending on my location at the time.)
Hmm...interesting..i just posted about this in another thread. i bricked my phone...brought it back..im rooted...and actually still on stock el30..the battery life is actually good...the signal is better..and im enjoying it actually...for the time being..thanks for everyones input...gotta love our community!!

Modem question....

So I constantly stay up to date with all the ics modems. My only question is are they really that different? It seems to me no matter which one I have speeds are the same, cell connection is the same does it really matter if I just use one and let it go at that?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
if you see no difference, than why do you keep flashing them?
If you don't see a difference go back or stay doesn't matter. For some the modems are night and day. I stay at fc15 because it works the best so far in my area. The later ones were giving me scratchy calls.
Sent from my BAD A$$ EPIC TOUCH 4G
For me, the signal for data up/down improved sometimes, but not consistently enough to say.
But most definitely, without doubt, the GPS was a night and day improvement, after FC18.
Yea I must admit I am not the jump on it because its new type of guy. I mean I was on UnNamed Rom which is EL13 until I flashed Gummy rom, so to me its a what works well for you type of thing. That being said I have only tried 3 of the ICS modems and must admit FC22 got a GPS lock right away. To date its the fastest in that respects so I will stick with it.
I change them in hopes that one will be awesome and my internet goes faster. I don't have 4g in my area. And to everyone else thanks for the input.

Super slow speeds on any ICS ROM

Someone please help. I've been up and down forums looking for the answer.
I've flashed cm9, aokp, Calkulin's, and quite a few more and now with the official release of ICS for e4gt, the STOCK ROM for it as well.
I've also flashed numerous modems (more than half of what is out there now) and to no avail im getting .16Mb DL and .38Mb UL.
It makes the phone nearly unusable on 3g/4g, yet wifi works perfectly.
I've updated Profile AND PRL, I've done a clean wipe, cache partition, and dalvik. I've pretty much followed every rule there is about rooting and ROMs carefully.
I need some major help or at least someone tell me that I'm doomed with GB for the rest of my phones existence, I really need an answer because its driving me nuts.
All help is beyond greatly appreciated.

indeed i have. i am currently running the new OTA stock, equip with FF18.
I was on a custom TSM_Revamped so i had to force the update. i did not receive the OTA automatically, if that matters.
I had the same issues with Ics. I reverted back to GB roms for my speeds. All I can say is wait a bit and see if some devs push out re worked kernels for the ics since source is out and about. I had best luck with the ff11 modem. But when I updated the profile and prl it became worse. So keep your head high. and hopefully the awesome devs do some magic for the kernals

I'll come back to post and I'll let I you know if I come across some worthy mentions
I have been having issues with 4G after upgrading to FF18 and was wondering if you could give me any insight...
Two friends of mine and myself all have the E4GT and have upgraded to FF18 using the One-Click Factory Reset package.
Pretty much what happens is that when I connect to 4G, my upload speeds are now around 150kbps down and 1500kbps up, when they used to hit around 5000kbps up and 1500kbps down. We are all having the same issue and live in NYC.
I've reverted back to EK02 using your One-Click, ran speedtests again and everything worked fine. I then let the OTA of EL29 install and 4G also works fine on that one. I then tried installing FF18 again and 4G speeds were back at 100-150kbps. I've tried the FF18 rooted, FF18 stock, and tried just using the recovery to run the update package from my SDCard while on stock EL29 and they all yield the same result.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for all of your help!

That's what i had thought at first but i heard the same from people in DC as well as a few other big cities. However the problem isn't consistent and appears to be few and far between with the users having this problem (or they're just not commenting). No one has a definitive answer yet. I'm in the "wait and see" stage since the official ICS has dropped for the e4gt and hope that someone fixes the problem along the line.
ICS is just too pretty not to have lol. If i hear or do anything that fixes the problem, i'll be sure to post it up.
p.s. data speeds are decent in Manhattan though but still not "4g" even thought it shows the bars. It's better but not top speeds.
Sorry I couldn't be much help

It wouldn't have mattered. If you stood on FD19 the 4g would had crapped out on you sooner or later. I started off good I had perfectly working 4g on every ICS builds even on FF 18. It just crapped out on me out of nowhere. Reverting to an older ICS leak does not fix it. Only gingerbread will fix it..

In case anyone in here hasn't heard, there are some new leaks, which fix the 4G issue. I'm on FI03 right now. Check it out here and give props to the devs!
These are leaks btw, so you will need to flash your odin skills.

Help with E4GT radios needed

I had the Evo 4g for about 1.5 years and it was a great phone. It started having problems so I decided to upgrade to the Samsung S2 on Sprint. Ever since I got it I have low signal most everywhere, can't connect to 4g unless I'm out under open sky, and my phone flips to roaming a lot. I have updated everything but still no fix. I'm rooted but on stock ATM. Please I need some suggestions for fixing this with tweaks or a better rom. Specs below.

All I can suggest is try all the modems,at most I get 4 bars,4g cuts out alot for me

Ignore the low signal stuff. Our phone is just really accurate. Nothing wrong with our radios. You'll still be fine if its low signal usually

A lot of times when I am roaming or have really low bars I can't make or receive calls at all. I seem to remember having similar problems with a Samsung device on T-Mobile. Is the hardware side of Samsung's weaker than HTC? If it was just low signal but I could still use the device as a phone I wouldn't care, but it is just an expensive toy a decent portion of my day as it is right now.
Try clearing your nvram and reactivating.

Part of my point in all this is that I am in an area that has good Sprint coverage, the only difference between my usage is the phone. I was consistently on 4G with my Evo now I very rarely can connect or stay connected, I always had cell service on my Evo, now lots of dropped calls and static and unable to send/recieve texts unless under open sky.

Your best bet might be to try a bunch of different modems. [modems here = radios on other devices like HTC]
You'll have to root and add CWM to flash them. Modems are build 'independant'. Meaing you could be on EL29 and use an FG20 modem if you'd like. By far the best reception (both 3g an 4g) has been on the FG20.
If you want to keep your phone on EL29 stock use sfhub's 'Autoroot' and add EL29+CWM-Rogue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
Hit up the 'Modem repository by rwilco12 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662295
After each modem flash I suggest updating the PRL and Profile too.
Find one that gives you the best signal for your area.
There are also '3g/4g speed tweak' posts in this forum That will work on GB and ICS builds.
Good luck.

You would think they would've mellowed this out of the all the phones by now, but you may be experiencing the infamous Loss of Service (LOS) issue this phone wrought when it was first released.

You can either use odin or a dialer code + your MSL.
There are new PRL out and I get a better signal now and better 3g speeds. Update prl and profile first. Next try different modems, I like FE22
Thank you everyone. I just updated the PRL and Profile again. I'll see if that makes any difference and if not I will start running through the modems. If I find something that works I'll post back.

Edge speeds.... No matter what rom

Hello all
I usually don't seek help like this but I'm at my wits end.
In the past month I've tried four roms, aokp ics, cm9, Jedi mind trick, and eugenes latest rom (can't remember the name) and no matter what, despite following instructions down to the letter, after a few days my data speeds drop to edge without fail. A reboot usually clears it up for a few hours, but inevitably I end up rebooting several times throughout the day to keep from doing back down. I live and work in downtown Houston so signal is not a problem, my wife usually pokes fun at me because her non rooted gs2 gets 4g all day without a hitch.
Is there ANY rom out there that is known for fast and consistent data speeds?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
If you have met your data limit it may be your service provider cutting back the speeds. I'd check that first unless you know that isn't the case. Your best bet may be to try flashing just the radio. I have read that they are area, or location sensitive, so you may have to try a few to get the one that works the best. I am in the South East US and I have been using the T879UGLV3 (comes with Jedi Mind Trick v9) radio for best results for a while now...There is a thread here that has all the radios compatible with the T989. Go to settings, about phone, and under baseband version you should see the radio version you are currently running. It won't hurt to try another - and if it does you should be able to find the radio you are currently using in that list to flash back to "stock". I hope that is of some help. Good Luck.
Thanks for the reply!
I will definitely try out some different radios.
