Hello there guys hope everyone is well and having the same great weather as England has (surprisingly! ).
I've been watching as I've been flashing ROM's, and when I am calibrating the battery, I never seem to get a green light UNLESS I pull the lead and connect it again... I can leave it for 4 hours, pull it and it goes green,
I can leave it for 8 hours, not green, pull it and it goes green,
TODAY, I left it for 11 hours, it still wasn't green until I pulled the lead and reconnected.
I know its not a CWM issue, I am on 5.0.2.0 and charge light was fixed in 3.1.X (correct if I am wrong?)
I have just updated to CM 7.2 from CM 7.1.0.1, - hence todays Calibration
using custom MTD, shown below.

I'm running cm7.2 also with cwm 5.0.2.0 and when fully charged my led is green.

I believe the red led charging bug was fixed in 4.1, no?

Offmode charging was fixed in CWM 3.x, but AFAIK, the LED colour is still buggy and doesn't turn green when charging in a switched off state.

But it does go green if I disconnect and re connect?
The off mode charge bug made the red light stay constant, even when charger is unplugged...if I remember correctly.
Updated to the new cwm based recovery 5.0.2.8 as well now.

I had the same issue with the 5.0.2.0 recovery from:

But with 5.0.2.8 is fixed:

Hi,
Yesterday I came across strange issue. In WinMo, when the phone was off it was charging normally untill the battery was fully charged...
After Flashing Android to NAND I can not do that. It seems to be charging (orange LED is on) for about 10 sec. and than the Display blinks with white light and the phone dies completely.
The only thing you can do after that is to pull out the battery and put it back. Than you can turn the phone on and charge as usually.
What is that issues origin? Battery driver? Or another thingie in Firmware? It seems to be quite strange, that it lights the display even with the phone being off...

My Kaiser does the exact same thing, and what it is, is for some reason the phone is booting back up. I came across this the other day, and my phone did the exact same thing described, and not sure what I did, but I managed to turn on the screen and Android was booted up to the lock screen.
It's even done it when I plug the phone into A/C power without the battery even connected.
so here is why it happens, basicly what would happen is in WinMo when the phone would turn off and boot into a charge loop and it would charge and shut off when finished our kernel doesnt have this built into it so it just boots like normal when power is applied

yup... happens to all of us, its not a big deal... there are a lot of worse problems devs are trying to solve... maybe whn they reach a point where the kernel is more stable they should pay attention to the details like this (and the camera driver, camcoder... etc)

Well that answers my question... Yah knew it was something inside the kernel, just didn't know if it was a bug, or something that wasn't implemented yet.
Of course this is low priority task but I just wanted to have that confirmed to know, that my oldie holdie is not broken or what
Quick question:
How old is your kaiser and/or battery ?
About 5 years with original battery
Sent from my Full Android on Kaiser using XDA App
It used to be that if Linux NBH was flashed, the phone wouldn't charge at all when off. Then somebody (dzo I believe) added code to the kernel so that the phone turns on when it is plugged in, so that it will charge. That used to work, with a full complete boot. Now, as you say, the phone tries to wake up but doesn't really make it. Maybe we should look into that, we should be able to fix that, maybe by looking carefully at the git logs for the past six months or so.
There are bigger problems, like data reliability, but if somebody wants a problem in the kernel that they can study and perhaps fix, this is a good one to start with.
To correctly charge the battery system need to be on so i can do this:
start kernel
in initrd:
if it found the power connected then the phone wait for power button (trying the sleep mode)
else
start the system
i need some testing to do it.
Windows do quite the same thing.

If only the real code was as easy as the pseudocode =)
1. When I power my device down and connect the charger ClockWorkMod Recovery pops up, Why is that? Is there a way to turn that feature off so my device is completely turned off while charging???
2. Is it safe to charge in recovery? To leave the fone idle for a number of hours can't be safe especially with the words and icons being displayed don't want those images burned into my screen. . .
3. After powering down at 99% I let my battery charge for a bit and not even a hour later I see the fone rebooted itself and I'm back at my home screen with the battery saying 'charged' is that normal???
Thanks in advance
1. It's a bug. 4EXT Touch Does address this, as well as a plethora of bugs from CWM.
2. Yes - I had also experienced the above bug when I was using CWM. I put my phone to charge, then slept. Next morning, the phone was idling on recovery. But I still strongly suggest you use 4EXT, as it is faster and safer.
3. Never heard of this...Ideally the led will turn green, but the phone won't turn on by itself.

I'm using a new 1520mah battery from the EVO 4G Design maybe that's why the device rebooted? not too long before this I left the phone charging for say 4 to 6 hrs and the led never turned green it stayed at orange.
When I rebooted the battery info said 'charged'
Highly unlikely. My guess is it's another issue with CWM. For all we know it could be a random tap of the power button, after all that's all it takes to power it up.

Charging my DZ almost every night and never had this issue.
You should consider using 4ext instead of CWM.
Older version of cwm had that problem, but was fixed a long time ago

The issues still present, I'm using the latest version of cwm.
For me, i always charge my phone only when it runs out. When i plug my charger in, it boots to recovery, but if i leave it for a while, it just shuts off. It seems that CWM doesn't stay on when my phone is on low battery or something.

Charge when it reaches 10 - 5% then tap the power button as soon as you see the recovery menu pop up, it'll bring up a screensaver that should stop it from shutting off.
Don't know why anyone would day 4EXT is "safer", though I'm happy to be educated.
If you leave it for a minute in that state with CWM started, the screen will turn off again so it's no problem, just a slightly irritating bug.
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
Well, from experience with CWM5 I had a lot of issues with backups. Either MD5 checks would fail or booting after restore would have me stuck at the htc screen. So from that aspect of view, 4EXT is somewhat safer. On second thought, reliable would be a more fitting attribute. Just my 2 cents.

Hey guys.
So recently, my phone ran out of battery on me. I plugged into my charger, waited an our or so, and turned it on, but when I turned it on, it no longer loaded ROM and got stuck at the boot logo. Not sure what I've done wrong here, was hoping some of you could help me figure it out. I'm running ARHD 6.0.0 with the repacked franco kernel, as well as the following mods:
- 3 dot removal
- Dim auto brightness
- Smooth 60 fps sense launcher.
Any help would be appreciated guys.

That usually happens when you're still low in battery. There is a series of posts on this here including a .bat script to see your battery's voltage level and charge it.

If I'm not mistaken, in the latest CWM update, you can charge your phone while it's off right? If so, I'll give it a shot and report back in a few hours.

Hey guys just wanted to tell you that I've solved the problem. I just went into recovery and did a wipe/factory reset. Hopefully that helps other people in the same position as me.
I flashed my One V to the Rhythmic Rom last night, using the steps listed on the roms page. I noticed though that even right after flashing, when you reboot back into Fastboot to fastboot flash the img, my orange charging light wasnt on. And after completing all the updates and steps, still doesnt come on.
I came from a stock rom, phone was unlocked, rooted, and kerneled (to oc ;] ) I will say that after I applied the kernel (sick kernel) the battery icon didnt show charging, but the hardware light did. And they knew that bug in the kernel.
Now I have no indication of charging except the battery icon % meter counting up. and the green "charged" light does come on when at 100%.
Also, the "never sleep while plugged in" from developer options works when I'm plugged in...
is this a known thing? or have I really borked something up? and if so, is there a fix, or do I just need to live w it?
Thanks in advance,
-Matt
I also have this same problem, now using Rhythmic Rom V1.4. It's really not that big of a deal, but the light is useful.
Recently flashed Revolutionary HD ROM, HBoot 1.73, everything was working fine, its a awesome ROM, but last night Battery level dropped zero, I wasn't able to charge during this time. Now its not charging, as I connect it to PC red light is blinking from last four hours and when I connect it to HTC socket charger charging screen appears with blinking red notification light, but its turns off in 30 seconds and remains off for 30 seconds and again charging screen appears with blinking red light and then it keep repeating.
I don't understand why this is happening. I had keep trying to turn it on, once it turned on and showed low battery notification 3% battery and it turned off.
I really appreciate help, its my first post in XDA Developer. I tried to explain the scenario but ignore my poor English.
Thanks.

mmmhhh... so i fear that if you can't even get into bootloader you should send it to repair service
Solved
I connected the phone and let it charger for whole day, after a day I switched it on and battery was 10% and it started charging normally when phone was on.
I am going to change Rom, Revolutionary HD drains battery very fast. battery level was 100% last night, and whole night phone was on standby, in morning battery level dropped to 9%! and battery details says android system used 85% of battery.
Lukes can you please tell me which recovery you used to flash Viper 4.0.7? I had tried four recoveries but not working. cw recovery says bad package and twrp recovery is not working nor touch neither buttons working.
Thanks
