does anyone know where I can find extra kernels for the Skyraider 1.3 rom? /: I see that some people are using a kernel called dres #21 kernel but i have no clue where to find it Thanks, and sorry for spamming the Q&As with Skyraider questions !

Yeah, it's Dress #21 kernel that I use.
Is it really better then the stock kernal with Skyraider? I heard it had major battery problems? And is it as stable as stock kernal?
I don't have any battery problems with drells because it can be undervolted..... Its the best sense kernel there is.

great kernel! highly suggest it!
Does anyone have a preference for the governors in dres #21? I've been running it a few days now and not sure what each governor does. I would like to have great battery life while also keeping the device nice and snappy.

smartass or scary. both give great battery life, but with scary i notice lag when scrolling in "App Manager" with ES File Explorer. it's a worthy trade-off imo, but it may bother some.
this might help too, [Q] SetCPU governors (explained)
Someone that knows how to should pull out the most recent Virtuous kernel and make it flashable. If no one else does it, I'll try to figure it out, but it's probably not going to work if I do it. Lol
governors wont stick
So I tried a decent search for this, but came up fairly empty. I am using the Dres #21 kernal, and set the governor to smartassV2. Things were working well and I just ran the V6 supercharger script. Now every time I reboot, the governor doesn't stick and switches back to the generic skyraider settings of "ondemand" with 245MHz and 1024MHz.
I got one search result back that said to type in Terminal Emulator: "su", " enable smartass". Tried it and didn't work. Should I use SetCPU?
Any suggestions?

so, i get a hair up my butt every couple weeks or so and load up a new rom. there are certainly some good ones out there (thanks to all you coders!). but i always wind up going back to stock. between the features of sense and the stability and the non-fc's, it just seems to work best for me.
but, if i could eek a little more performance out of the stock rom, i wouldn't say no to that. so, can anyone recommend a kernel that runs well on the stock rom (no fc's!) and can get me a little more oomph? there seems to be quite a few, and instead of trial and error, i thought someone here might know...
thx!

i have the same question, i dont want to flash a new rom if i can get good kernel that might extend battery life. ive been looking a while and it looks like i might have to finally try the heyitslou kernel

it means you can use from 3 to 10 fingers simultaneously.

None of Lou's custom kernels are meant to be overclocked, as far as I know.

The most stable kernel and best on battery that I have used is the virtuous custom kernel (v3). It has worked great with several roms I have used.
Im running chads 12/23 kernel for sense and it gives me great battery life (which for me is 16-20 hours) and im running magnolia 1.1.1 rom

+1 ...his kernels rock with sense and battery life!!!
Lou's #9 has given best battery life for me on virtuous, redemptive, and warm 2.2 roms. Quadrants scores are also on par if not better with it
not to take anything away from lou or his work, but that kernel wound up not working well for me; lots of hangs and fc's. went back to the stock kernel today and everything is *****en! thx to all for your input.
Hey guys, I'm just wondering which kernel gets better battery life in CM7. I wanna try SavagedZen but I'm hesitant about the SBC. I know there are non-SBC versions though. How do those stack up?
Also, I'm using the new Destroyer ROM by Magnus, is his stock kernel any good?

Well i think his kernel is the stock CM kernel, I personally use the Tiamat kernel and get nice battery life.

Most likely the sbc version cuz that's all they talk about now. Though when I used the kernel I had great battery life on the non-sbc with cfs and bfs versions.
What are bfs and cfs and what's the difference between the two?
I would try the SBC kernel but I'm using a third-party insurance plan, not sprint's thing, so I'm afraid to ruin the phone using SBC kernels.

well atm i am running an evo 4g with cm7 and i just switched my kernel to savaged zen and it's running great. my phone was rebooting on its own w/ the regular cm7 kernel i think its b/c i was using setcpu and people are saying it messes up cm7.
i was also wondering if anyone knew if i can use setcpu with cm7 and savaged as the kernel or if it's possible to make profiles on the cpu settings on cm7 i saw some1 post somewhere that you can but they never explained how.
Congrats on joining the kernel-flashing world, hope it treats you well.
I run CM7, and have found that SavagedZen tends to be faster than Tiamats... it just depends on your personal opinion, experiment as much as you want (just don't flash a Sense kernel on an AOSP ROM )
If you're using SavagedZen-1.0.1 CFS HAVS noSBC (the most recent SavagedZen kernel) then you don't need to use SetCPU, the HAVS (hybrid adaptive voltage scaling) and SetCPU would work against each other. HAVS works to tone down your CPU as needed and such.
To change your governor (the thing that manages your CPU), go to Settings - CyanogenMod settings - Performance - CPU settings.
Oh, and CFS stands for "Completely Fair Scheduler". It means that it doesn't let one program use up the a huge chunk of the CPU. It is good for an overall system and is supposed to have better battery life. BFS stands for "Brain F*** Scheduler. It gives the priority to foreground tasks. Think about gaming and whatever demanding programs you may use.
I use both, but the most commonly downloaded one is CFS (at least for SavagedZen)
Here's a link to explain kernels, this guy does a great job of explaining: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880

Lol naw, you're just experimenting. Trying not to get bored right now cuz I don't have my evo >>.
I've mainly used Tiamat. Running the current version right now...3.3.3 no SBC. It seems responsive and I'm getting pretty good battery life. I will have to try SavagedZen sooner or later to see how it stacks up.
BFS kernels theoretically are supposed to give you better battery life, I used the cfs sbc savage zen and it was pretty good for speed; the bfs sbc savage zen gave me the better battery life. The only thing I can say I definitely noticed about bfs/cfs is that scrolling on bfs seems to be VERY choppy compared to cfs. No matter what profile you use on bfs the scrolling was still super choppy. So to confirm this I got back on cfs and scrolling overall was smooth as butter in cfs. Just to put this out there, I recently switched to the tiamat kernel and I'm seeing about a 15% battery increase (sounds like a little but that's a big deal) lol.

Backup
Clear cache/data
Flash Savage
But I was under the assumption that it'd only change the kernel, not the rom? So when it booted it was a stock/default flash. I restored to my backedup rom. Did I just negate the kernel flash?

I flashed CM 7 a while back and love it, but as always I feel as though I'm not getting the best battery life. With moderate use I'm lucky not to have to plug it in halfway through the day.
Any good kernel recommendations for good battery life? I'm testing SavagedZen's kernel and using it's governor currently. I find it to have excellent life while the phones asleep, but it's a battery hog when I'm using the phone.
GoDm0dE has done wonders for my battery life! Your mileage may vary as all EVO's seem to be slightly different.
Im having a great exp with SZ 2.1.0. Try using the BFS version of the latest savagezen; As to me it seems the savagezen governor works best with their rom versus cm7(if that's what ur using). I personally run conservative or ondemand with a max of 1113 and 245 min. You could also try the new toast godmode kernel! Here's some general info I think you might find helpful.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880
I've tried a million different kernals and personally I think CM7 just still has some battery issues to work out.
What has become a frustration of mine is that I continually get different results with the same items. In other words. Some days I'll be using the same kernal and ROM release and even the same programs and my battery will disolve right before my eyes while sudden then I'll get great battery life for a day or two.
Personaly I think it has something to do with 3g and wifi issues, because I seem to have random issues with those as well . . . but I don't know enough about all this to back that up with anything more than anecdotal observation.
CM7 + Timat Kernel = EPIC WIN.
If you flash, only use version 3.3.7 or 3.3.8 as 4.0.0 is breaking some cameras.
Toastcfh's GoDm0dE Kernel gets my vote, and that's coming from Tiamat 3.3.8 with the -100mv script from Viperboy. The Godmode kernel is by FAR much smoother and has gotten me better battery life. Toastcfh works on Cyanogenmod so you know it'll run well with CM7

Governors are not mods that you can download. They're inherently built into the kernel that you're using. Eugene has smartass built into his streamline kernel, as does synergy. Although I definitely do not recommend using smartass, it doesn't play well with our chipset. Usually after locking and unlocking the screen, it'll stick at max frequency
yes, you are correct, the black edition remake rom came with the synergy kernel, I saw the smartass governor when I open the setcpu app.
But I don't know what happened the smartass governor is now gone! I reinstalled the black edition rom, Hoping to get the smartass back, unfortunately,I still do not get back the smartass governor that came with the synergy kernel. I don't know how to get it back.
I instead flashed the darksideX kernel, it is much smoother, do you know if the darkside X kernel has an update?

The reason the smartass governor disappeared is because black edition has been updated to ics and currently there is only one kernel that is compatible with ics and it's the leaked at&t kernel which does not support smartass. If you're on a gingerbread ROM you can just install the synergy kernel to get it back. But like I said, smartass doesn't work for our phones so I don't know why you're so determined to try it

for undervolt if it is sysfs HAVS enabled you need to get vipermod. If it just says undervolt then it may have a pre-set undervolt determined by the dev.

i just recently started using mason. its pretty awesome. before that i used tiamat sbc also no problems. just try which ever ones you think you may like every couple days to see which one works best for you. i also give the kernel about 10 minutes to bake in every time before i unlock it. i dont know if thats been proven to help but it cant hurt and seems to work well for me.
I've been running mason sbc for about a week now. I had to use a combination of vipermod and smurfed out scripts to get the kernel set where I wanted it. I noticed the kernel was set for BFS by default, which I've never been a big fan of, due to its power consumption....so smurfed out let me set the scheduler to CFS, which is much more conservative and doesn't sacrifice any i/o speed, imho. Then I used vipermod to uv -25MHz so it wasn't such a battery-hog. Underclocked, undervolted, and set to CFS seems to be my winning combo!!! I get no less than 3 hours of constant screen time (streaming video, browsing the web, etc.) and enough standby to last me all day so I don't have to carry my charger with me anymore.
With every other android I've ever owned, setcpu does everything I've mentioned changing in this post...so when it wasn't working, I had no idea what to do.
Thanks so much guys!!! I couldn't have done it without all your help....HTC is in a world all its own in the android scene since they use so many different things that no other manufacturers do. It made me want to pull my hair out until you guys came along to help me out
