Hey guys, so I did a review for the Galaxy Nexus, you can find it here, and a small comparison to the Samsung Galaxy S2, you can watch the video here.
You can ask me questions and I'll try and reply as well as I can.
Also, check another review made by a colleague of mine, see his thread here.
Cheers,
Alex.
How did u get one already lol

Hmmm. Decent review. But I'm still waiting for a review for the final software and hardware. And you missed on a lot of things too.
Could you possibly make a short video demonstrating the notification light of the Nexus? Here are some things that you could include in it:
-Breathing rate
-Colours available
-Colours used for different applications (mail, messaging etc)
-Whether the notification light resumes after waking the phone up and not looking at the new notification?
Thanks.
tks for your review
is it the 2nd mic for noise cancelling in the top of the back?

BIG QUESTION! Please answer this ...
Also which screen is better? does the plus make a difference?
Very nice review. Thanks for posting.
You said you were disappointed by the battery life, but earlier in the review you said it could last a day with intense use. Sounds pretty average to above average to me for todays android phone. What specifically disappointed you?

Colors available - so far I've noticed only white (for standard notifications - missed call, new message, new e-mail) and green (for certain apps - for instance, a new message on Facebook messenger will make it flash green) being used.
If you wake the phone up and then lock it again, no, the light won't flash anymore.
@peacekeeper05 - Thanks for the appreciation! If you have any suggestions, feel free to share It's my first review, so I'm kinda... experimenting. Suggesting new things that I might use in the next reviews will only help me
@veper & jameslfc - I'll get back to you on this tomorrow, I don't have my SGS 2 with me today, so I can't compare. Will try this tomorrow.
@rlsroufe - yes, the battery will stay up to one day of using . Given the fact that the display is bigger then the one on the S2, but the battery is also a bit bigger, I thought it will even and it will last at least the same as the S2... but the ICS drains it pretty fast. Hope that will be solved with an official update or with some custom kernels.
@royalsuen - I noticed that small "hole" at the top of the cover, but I'm not entirely sure what it is.
@jameslfc - check my colleague's review, he did a pretty good comparison for the displays. From my point of view, this one is better, even though it's not plus.
Could you please do comparison shots with the cameras? Same scene, same lighting, without playing around with the settings. I want to know which one does better out of the pocket. Plus, could you do the same with HD video capturing?
@qwer Yup, I'll do that tomorrow as well, hope I won't forget the S2 this time

Does it have a native FM radio app?
@ankushkatari - nope. And no stopwatch / timer native either.
Damn... thats not good! I read that the TWL chip inside does have the radio feature. Hopefully the dev's can do something

Thanks mate, really appreciate this thread
Can't decide whether to upgrade :/ what is the maximum you would pay to "upgrade" from the sgs2 to the galaxy nexus, £50? £100?
I am asking this because I could sell my S2 and buy a nexus simfree
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Also would you mind photographing the contents of the nexus box, I see you mentioned the headphones but haven't shown them so this would be interesting
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Yup, that's pretty much what I'd pay. Wouldn't pay a huge amount of money, because the differences aren't worth that much... however, you could consider that the Nexus will bring a new display standard, resolution speaking, so... might not be bad to have that. And the fact that it's the first with ICS means that it'll be the first to receive any updates.
Regarding the box contents, sorry, can't help you there. I got mine in a nice, white box, not the retail package, along with a microusb cable, the socket adapter and the headphones. The headphones seem just like the ones on the S2, but I didn't try them, to be honest.
Would you like to sell it?

A Google Lead PM acknowledged the issue and quote:
"This is work in progress guys. We are fixing it "
https://plus.google.com/u/0/109941711245243963357/posts/YBMTuysqm3B
A great step forward IMHO as we haven't seen any reaction from Google on this issue in years even on the official support forums.
Oldest dated bug seems to be Issue 4147 from 2009 on Android 1.5...damn.
Wow, finally!
This is the only embarrassing thing about Android when I show people my phone. I personally use Haxsync or find other ways to get high quality images for my contacts, but it should be a native function. It's a no brainer. I'm glad they're pulling their **** together and FINALLY addressing this!!
Right, it's irritating that I can save high resolution contacts, but upon wipe/resync they degrade.

I look forward to the update. However, 256x256 is still not high resolution enough. The screen is 720p for Christ's sake. Even when I try to use 21mp portraits directly from my gallery, the images are downsized to 256x256. It's embarrassing.
256x256 is fine considering the size of the caller ID screen.
Few days? Yet this is still not fixed...

The Caller ID screen takes up the full width of the screen, which is 720 pixels. I can certainly see the pixelation when I get a call, even after using a nice and sharp high-resolution image.
Finally! Great news!
This can't come soon enough.
Finally!!!! What took so long?

i think we better start snapping new photos of our contacts as we bump into them to have them ready for the refresh. i've got some in there from ppl i haven't seen in ages, does this mean i have to meet old friends again?
so we have to sit tight and wait.....unless someone can pull this again

About time. It is embarrassing to show a pixelated contact picture. Its like watching a 700MB avi video on a 50inch 1080p LCD TV....ugh!
FINALLY! Nexus has such a beautiful screen, it looks so weird when someone calls and you see a pixelated picture!
For all those people shouting "Finally!" remember... it hasn't happened yet.

hello, my fellow pure-google lovers...
I got my Galaxy Nexus like 2 months ago, and I was in love with the phone, until I saw what the pictures show. tbh I'm very disapintted in phone quality I guess the screen is really delicate after all. I don't even know what to do, has anyone around here have heard of similar stories and how they went. some advice and sleeping peels may make me feel better.
best regards!
Look on the playstore for "screen test" app, or dead pixel detect...not always it's a matter of dead pixels, sometimes a pixel gets stuck, and can be fixed, anyways, there are several other apps, check them out and do the necessary tests, and hopefully u'll be able to sleep without sleeping PILLS*

Thanks for your quick reply I run many test and I can see the black pixel in pretty much all the colors except for black :S
There is an app called Pixel Fixer or something... have you given that a whirl?

Yeah they are all the same, they show different colors on the screen I can see the dot with all of them except for black
Hey everyone, how's it going? I wanted to know if anyone on here reads ebooks a lot on this device. How's the reading experience mainly with regards to screen size? Do you find the screen too small for comfort or is it good enough? It would be great if anyone out there has also tried to read PDFs (which mostly don't do very well with text wrapping/extraction and hence must be read in their PDF form).
I've ordered the Nexus 7 tablet because I need a hand-held device to read ebooks/PDF on. However, since I have an old HTC Desire, I'm wondering whether getting the Galaxy Nexus and killing two birds with one stone wouldn't be a better choice.
I've looked at a lot of reviews online and I'm satisfied with this phone in every other way. I also know that I'll have to spend $350 instead of $199. However, my primary concern is screen real estate. Is it big enough to provide a satisfactory reading experience? I know I can go look at the phone in a store but I'm looking for feedback from people who've done some reading on it for a reasonable amount of time. Just a glance or spending 5 minutes with the phone in a shop is not enough to make a good decision, IMO.
Thanks for your help.

the screen is superb for doing just that, the colors really stand out.
of course the only draw back is that natively you dont get the whole 4.65 because of the navbar, but you can fix that with a couple of mods and even without the mods, its great!
you can't really get much of a bigger sized screen unless you go with One X or galaxy S3.
hope i helpped
Hey, thanks for replying. I'm not worried about the navbar too much because most ebook reader programs allow you to hide it. How's the 4.65" screen for reading for extended amounts of time? Did you ever think it was too small? Also, have you tried reading PDFs on it?

I really love it both for ebooks and for reading PDFs. I'm frustrated that Google Play Books still doesn't let you highlight or take notes on Android when that feature has been on iOS for months. But hopefully it's coming. And, in the mean time, the Kindle app lets you do all of that.

I want y'all to convince me as to why I should get a note 2. I like to hear from the one's who owned a s3 and went to that note 2 also the one's who skipped the s3 and just went for the note 2. I'm thinking about selling my s3 on eBay for this phone. Just like to know of it's really worth it.
Anyone wants to make a Harlem shake video with me?
Nobody needs to convince you. Go to the sprint store and play with their demo for 15-20 mins, use the stylus the whole time.
You'll get your answer better that way because it IS a sizable size difference to hold and that's the biggest issue I've found so far. But I'm getting use to it darn quickly. ha

very easily, this.
just to reiterate, my 2 cents:
the size was only weird for about 2 days, now it feels mostly normal.
but the battery, the CPU, the screen? all big points to win with.
runs All day with Heavy use (games, chat, SMS/MMS, music, +plus all the other stuff), and some to spare for when i get home
(the only exception to this would be using Nav, but you should be powering your phone when doing that anyway...)
never stutters, never lags, runs every damn thing i throw at it, and sometimes two things at once. aaaaaaa. mazing.
movies/youtube look fan-freaking-tastic on it. pictures look fantastic. games look fantastic. reading feeds/pages/docs/anything at all, fantastic.
again, as far as the size goes?
got in a little tete-a-tete with some iFan on gizmodo about it:
Me said:
every single iPhone user that sees my Note2 wants it. not one exception yet.
even the 2 guys helping me in the Apple store wanted it.
not only do I get the envy of every single iPhone user, I also get the personal satisfaction of knowing my device is hands-down the top of the line in tech specs.
you can pretend to laugh at the size all you like, but Apple has not "innovated" crap in two years.

but. no one is laughing when I'm watching a movie/YouTube, playing a game, taking/editing a picture/video, editing a document, using integrated Google Maps, texting a friend, reading a website/article/book, using speaker-phone, using my calender.... and sometimes two at once.

People laughing at the Note was short lived. Everyone, and I mean everyone that cares about smartphones in even the most cursory way, that sees my Note II is more than a little impressed.
Don't hesitate.
well i came from the s3 to the note 2. at first it felt really big in my hands but after like 2 days i use use my wifes s3 and im like dang this screen is too small lol! anyways pull the trigger you wont regret it. the s pen makes this device better than the s3 by itself but you will notice the faster processor and netflix is really enjoyable on this thing. i was going to get a 7 inch tablet but now i don't need it.

I own the s2 s3 and gn2. The gn2 is in a category of itself. Never had I experienced this awesome batterylife in another phone. I was also concerned with size but that's now a thing of the past. As stated by other users screen size, faster processor and spen were the deciding points.

Honestly i jumped on the note 2 as soon as it came out and sometimes do miss my s3. The size isnt an issue bc im 6ft 5 and can hold it with no issue. But the s3 is alot easier to handle with 1 hand. I sold my s3 and got a little over $500 for it bc i had alot of accessories so i only came out of pocket with about $150 for the note 2. If your happy with the s3 you will be happy with the note 2 bc it is very similar. But if you have to come out of pocket with alot of money to make it happen i wouldnt do it. I live in baltimore and theres some people offering $250 and there s3 for a note 2 and im considering jumping on it. Iam in no way sayin the note 2 is a bad phone all im saying is the s3 was and is still a very good phone and to me holds its own against any phone.
