I received mine in the mail yesterday and wanted to give my mini review.
I currently have or had:
G1
G2
G2x
Sensation
Hercules
The reason I mention this is because this phone is not much nicer then the G2, G2x or the sensation but this phone is still solid.
I paid the outright price and coming from these phones I just cant see the difference for me to spend $560. This is just based on the feature and feel of the phone vs what I already own. If you were coming from a old phone by all means this is slightly better then the rest I mentioned but not $560 better.
Pros:
No pentile
No screen door effect (spaced pixels)
No Yellow Tint
No over colored greens and oranges
Fast web browser alive, I mean WOW! Flash sites run very well
NFC
Decent processor
Fastest download speed from Tmobile device yet
Very light
Nice feel in hand
Cons:
Defective screen (I had the pixelated, washed out /brushed steel stripes) the artifacts stay in the same place and is noticeable when I pull down the notification bar.
DPI is way to HIGH for such a resolution - Not bad but should be a option
Stutters 10% of the time
Car audio does not have the Voodoo punch from stock, not sure about later development or if a compatible chip is in there.
This phone did not blow me away but will offer it to my girlfriend over the sensation for the only reason being the GPS is terrible int he sensation and we use the navigation a lot and wanted to smash the sensation many times.
This phone is very close to being sent back but even if keeping this is being exchanged for a different screen.
Does any that bought from Tmobile have a perfect/good screen? If so please post pics.

This seems to be a pretty common, but then again we typically only hear from people who have this issue. I'm planning on heading back to the T-mobile store and compare my unit to their display models. Hopefully there will be a difference and convince an exchange.

Do you think it's a qc issue? Or is it a hardware (LCD or another issue that they all will have?) flaw?

This is my first Super AMOLED device so I'm not sure what to expect. I came from MyTouch4G before this and an SE x10i before that, and both fo them had LCD's iirc.
My friend has a Sprint GS2 and I got to compare them side by side. I noticed it's much less apparent on the Sprint one (Had to get up really close and carefully stare at it) so you almost cant tell, and when the brightness is up to about 30% it's just gone completely.
I tried to show him the lines I was talking about but he couldn't see them at all, and ended up calling me insane. So it's also the eye of the beholder.. so to speak. I don't have much evidence to go on other than what I'm seeing, and am fairly convinced it's hardware issue. I remember the MT4G had 2 different batch of screens where the viewing angles and vibrance was substantially different. This might be the same case, though I would expect more from "Super AMOLED Plus".

Based on the pictures someone posted, I find it unnerving that it's only one the right side of the screen.
It's almost as though it's hardware related in the sense that it has something to do with whatever is right beneath that part of the screen. Could it be heat related? The CPU being there? etc.
I don't remember seeing this on European GS2 when I played with it.
This is why even if the prime wasn't coming, I'd be hesitant to pick up the GS2 as the screen itself is a new line of manufacturing....and I'd rather let the first adopters deal with the imperfections while they work the kinks out in their manufacturing process.
I'm on my second SGS2 in two days. The first one was bad. Very bad. Defective screen: grey stripes, washed out colors. Extreme stuttering. Ok. Recieved my second one 3 hours ago. Great screen. Practically no stuttering.... until the first hard reboot. Bam! As bad as the first one except the screen. Laggy, choppy. Impossible to enjoy. Wtf????
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
I've noticed stuttering with the screen animations on. Once I turned them off, no problems. I've got the grey stripes, as well. If I keep my brightness around 50%, more or less, I don't really notice them. Debating on whether an exchange is in order.

just to be fair
Launcher Pro hasn't been performing well since Nexus S came out, and all the newer devices that came after it, like the original SGS2.
many other launchers are working way better/faster than Launcher Pro now
in other words Launcher Pro is kinda old school now, it needs to adapt to the new devices
Go Launcher EX. Same thing. Jumpy/choppy/laggy.

Launcher pro runs like crap on every phone.
That launcher has and will be the worst launcher I've ever tried to date. My gs2 flies with the stock launcher and launcher 7. I haven't tried adw as I kinda like touch wiz.

I posted this in the other vertical lines thread, but I'll post it here as well:
dksxmks said:
I just came back from the T-mobile store and I'm happy to say that the exchanged device is much better in terms of the vertical lines. I'm fairly convinced that it's the nature of these AMOLED displays, only some seem to be worse than others. My old device was at ~40% brightness and it's still pretty clearly visible. Now with this new one, I can go down to ~20% without even noticing it unless I reeeeaaaally stare into it.
Make sure you test it beforehand though. I checked 2 of their display models and they both had that problem. I lucked out with the new one they handed me at random.

I really wish someone could post and show the lines you guys are seeing. I dont' see this on my screen at all. The little stuttering is very very little and I only see it slightly when pinch zooming on the homescreen. The HTC phones do the same exact thing. Nothing I would return over.

ok thanks. I see it now and I will have to look at my phone closer to see if I have the problem. I hope not.
ive had no probs but no phone is 100% perfect
I just received my Google Play Nexus and as soon as I booted it up to the first screen I could tell the display was trash. It was stupidly purple and grainy. I know this isn't normal because I've owned 2 GSM Nexi previously. Even without owning them, it's pretty easy to see something is wrong with the display. How does this get released to the public?
I really don't feel like going through multiple replacements until I get a good screen. What are my options as far as guaranteeing a good screen? Thanks.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
send it back and get a new one or flash a kernel and change the colors.
Pretty much nothing, going to have to stick with it or do a bunch of the advanced replacements or return it. I'm about to be on my fourth galaxy nexus. Even when I requested the most recent one they were bullshitting me telling me I was out of warranty when it had only been 1 week from the last replacement. I have wasted about 3hrs the past 2 days on the phone and got nothing but big fat NOs for any more returns and they told me id have to send in a repair and this was from a level 3 advanced return employee. This asshole level 3 god of samsung decided to make notes on my file saying I was out of warranty and not to advance replace my phone. He apparently was for sure that warranty was only for 14 days from date of purchase and would not listen to me. Thankfully I called a couple times more until I got connected with someone who sounded like they had the slightest amount of intelligence without redirecting me (i had to call very many times because mostmof the regular employees were seeing the notes the douche left on my account about not allowing me to advanced replace and telling me no)and ended talking to a standard employee who normally takes care of repairs/returns and she was like wtf u are still under warranty I'll fix everything in the records and send you a new one.
IMO if I were you I'd do anything to get rid of that phone without going thru Samsung. They'll bull**** you and run u around in circles and youll waste plenty of life on the phone with their garbage customer service. END RANT
this worry's me mine will be here Thursday i don't wanna have to deal with returns shouldn't have to with a 400$ phone this kinda sucks ...

I was pretty much set on returning my phone to Google and take the 15% restocking fee until this rep figured out the issue andhelped. i guess that ill have to do sounds like its a pia grr ill keep my htc vivid just in case now lol if nexus disappoints Craigslist it goes
I've owned two GSM Gnex's and never had a issue with the screen. I hope the one I get Thursday is ok.
I went through a single replacement with Google then returned the replacement because it was worse than the original. If purple bothers you, a custom kernel - like Trinity - will definitely fix it. However nothing can be done about grain and banding. My suggestion is return the phone and don't bother exchanging it if the latter two bother you.
I have seen a good gnex side by side with mine and I want to cry - the other has no grain or banding at all - however i just don't have the energy to fight Samsung on this and play endless exchange game, and wish I'd just returned the phone to Google and gotten something else. For the record I have two dark bands - one vertical and one horizontal - crossing in the middle of the screen, in addition to a heavy dose of grain. Trinity wiped out all purple though.

Touchwiz....ew. That ugly home button was a deal breaker for me.
My screen only goes purple when set to the lowest brightness. Is that the normal "purple" behavior people are talking about? Otherwise there is a noticeable snap back into the greys around 5-10% brightness.

Even if I could fix the colors (Which I doubt, they are so far off) there is an extreme amount of graininess to the screen. It's visible even on max brightness.

Mine is purple even on max brightness. I've never seen a screen this bad in my entire life.
I wasn't sure how to describe it in the title. I just got my GNex direct from Google yesterday. I noticed that what is displayed on the screen seems to linger for a bit after the display changes. It's especially noticeable on Google Play; I type something in the search bar, hit enter, and when the keyboard disappears, I can see outlines of the keys still there mostly faded on the dark "loading" background, going away after a few seconds. It's similar to what used to happen to older TVs/monitors if you were to leave the same image on the screen for a long time and it would "burn" on.
Is this something I should be concerned about? I'm not aware of mobile displays needing any kind of training period, should I give it a few days?
EDIT:

It's why I added the -like at the end, I know it's not actual burn-in. I just haven't seen this elsewhere. Now I'm realizing it's common on AMOLED displays.

I just got my Galaxy Nexus about a week ago - by far the best phone I could ask for (within a reasonable price). Coming from a Motorola Droid X2 (stupid locked bootloader...) I was really looking forward to getting the full potential out of my new phone! The first thing I did with the phone right after I got it was unlock that bootloader - not a single bit of hesitation. After watching many videos, reading guides and doing all the possible research I could, I knew this was a great choice and that I wouldn't mess up.
Flashed TWRP, played with a few ROM's and kernels, and boy - I couldn't be happier. I'm like a kid in a candy store - I'm just doing what I please, getting what I want and more! Oh, I wanna put CWM on instead? Boom. Done. Bored and I wanna flash CM10 for the hell of it? Done! I'm finally done with that stupid bootstrap from my old Droid X2.
But this is all fine and dandy, but there's one thing that bothers me... one thing that just, gets on my nerves afters HOURS of tinkering. That god d*mn Super Amoled Screen. I, cannot for the love me, get this thing perfect. After countless hours, numerous kernels and apps... there's always that tiny bit of a discoloring; yellow-ish to be exact. I just can't get it to go away... The screen is great an all, but i'd rather have a "not as good" screen with accurate colors than one that tints on me. This is really only noticable with grays, whites and rarely blacks - but it's just a pest.
I just wanna slam my face in the desk sometimes because I just can't get it... but it looks like almost no one else can either.
For discussion sake, what is your input on the screen? Anything anyone else would like to add?

I'm considering it... I'm sure I'd probably get use to it since the effect is small enough than an average person wouldn't even notice; such as my friends. When showing them, they said it looked great!
If I were to return it (which I bought it at a Local BestBuy store), would I need to (or should I) factory reset my device? By that I mean, re-lock the bootloader, stock recovery, stock ROM; just stock everything. I dunno how "uptight" they would be about things like that... Would it even be worth the effort?

Hey there guys.
I picked my Verizion LG G3 a couple days ago. Overall I really like the phone. Love the camera, the design, screen size, ect.
There is however one thing that is driving me NUTS... The effing screen. The one main selling point of the phone seems to be its main downfall. Yes, the Quad HD resolution looks sharp sometimes. There is very aggressive screen sharpening going on with the display though. It is especially noticible in Black test with "off white" backgrounds. Its easy to notice in the Play Store looking at the text and then pulling down the notification shade slightly. That darkens the background a little and brings out the sharpening a whole lot.
I know this issue has been touched on before in other posts, but I've yet to find some particular information...
I've yet to see if anyone has noticed weather this is something affecting ALL G3 models... Because i have seen posts where people are claiming to not see this effect at all.. and then others that do. I'm curious if there is some correlation between the types of G3's that seem to be affected by this, or if it is just on all G3's and people that cant see it just have bad vision to begin with.
Also, has anyone been able to get any sort of response to LG about this yet? I've emailed them, live chatted, and phoned them with no luck. The live chat rep was the most useful and told me that he would try to get the information as far up the ladder as he could and would reach out to me when he hears back.
This is so frustrating to me. It's like buying a brand new Ferrari and having a big scratch on the door. The phone is so great, but this text sharpening is making me really dislike reading on the device, and just looking at the screen in general. I know others have already returned their devices because of this, but i'm really hoping LG would be able to come out with some sort of software update to be able to turn it off. Thats the shred of hope i'm holding on to at this point.
Does anyone have any further information about this yet?

The phone is so great, but this text sharpening is making me really dislike reading on the device, and just looking at the screen in general. I know others have already returned their devices because of this, but i'm really hoping LG would be able to come out with some sort of software update to be able to turn it off. Thats the shred of hope i'm holding on to at this point.
Does anyone have any further information about this yet?

Same issue, when first i got this phone i was like "QuadHD, why the text does look crappier than my Nexus 5?"...
Insane.

Yeah. It's quite irritating. You gonna return it? Or just live with it?

Yes I knew about that already. It gives better contrast and colors but that doesn't really help the problem. It's like spraying perfume on a pile of dog $hit.

Still looks awful. lol
Yeah. It's more of a placebo effect if anything... But hasn't anyone here complained about it to LG yet? They're only gonna do something about it if enough people show dissatisfaction

PREACH! It only happens on some items. Its like things are compressed oddly. Anyone know if its software or a screen thing?
It has to be software. Just has to. But it's most noticible with black text on an "off white" background. The black letters have a white glow to them. Like I said above if you look at text in the play store and then start to pull down the notification shade slowly, you can really notice it then.

My play store looks atrocious!!!
For the more technologically sound people on here, what is it that's enabling the text sharpening? Is it kernel stuff or could it be fixed with an xposed module or just an app? In other words, why has no one addressed this yet? There's G3 Tweaks Box but nothing in there regarding the sharpening.
From the research I've been doing on the issue it appears it's kernel level stuff. I am by no means an expert on it. What pisses me off about this is why more people aren't complaining and getting LG to do something about it. At least respond to their customers about an issue with their product.
But if we can't get LG to acknowledge the problem or address it, then we need to start getting people to make some ROMS and address it in our own way.

Verizon VS985 here and this issue bugs the crap out of me. Some web-pages the entirety of the text is "sharpened" but I do agree, it mostly happens with black text on an off-white background.
Testing using the PlayStore and the Notification shade shows it off but not quite to the degree that I've seen on some pages.

You need recovery and a unlocked boatloader for that and it could be a while....Sprint doesn't even have root yet

@p2im0 yeah I've seen it even worse than that too. That just seemed to be an easy example to use. Ahhh LG. You ruined a great screen.

I just wait for the community support, i think a modded kernel will fix that...
I have this phone for over 2 weeks now and i can barely notice this problem compared to the first time with the phone...

Yeah. I hear ya. Still bothers me and I've had it for about 4 days now. I wish I knew how to do that stuff with kernels and all that. I'd be working on a fix right this second.
