Welcome to our forum man, check out calkulins el29 2.9.2 rom after you get rooted. It is imho the smoothest rom and the best to start out with. Stay away from ics builds at least until you are more experienced with how things work on this phone.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

Unfortunately there aren't many kernel devs for our phone. I have made a GB kernel with some added governors / IO's but haven't released it because I don't even use GB anymore.
Waiting for final build of ICS so we can get source.

Im having trouble keeping up with all these leaks and builds. I own a sprint e4gt,im running the revamped rom.ive had trouble with every rom and this 1 seems to work. My real question is wats the diff between the fb builds and the EL29 or the EK02 builds. Which is sprint using, wich is more stable? Sorry 4 the stupid.jus thinkn bout flashing a fb deal
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
FB and FC builds are sprint/Samsung ICS based rom. But before you do anything with flashing PLEASE do your research and know that if you brick your device its your own fault.
Furthermore, this is obviously a question please post in the Q&A forum next time.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
The EL29 is an official Sprint release. EG30 was the release day launch. The other builds were test roms leaked from Samsung.
Official releases are generally considered stable, while leaks may contain bugs.

the lockscreen issue was roms/themes with the ICS transitions included with them. That was the root cause of problems for that. BlazerRom 4 is a good rom it has the ICS feel to it and it's pretty stable as well. I ran it for a while before I started to mess with the ICS leaks.

Man, I really don't wanna be rude or have this sound like a douche bag thing to say, but please, I am begging you, please read about this stuff. Like go through the threads until you completely understand what is happening and what the outcome of what you are doing will be. There have been about 50 hard bricks (almost completely unrecoverable damage) in the last 2 or 3 weeks. And those were done by both people experimenting and people who had a very solid grasp on what they were doing. Please, please, please research, or you will have yourself a schnazzy 500 dollar paperweight. You have been warned.
not only is there is risk of bricking your phone, but also know that ICS builds will be more risky.. most roms out there are made from ICS leaks.. so i don't think it's good idea for you to move back and forth so much.. take your time.. and just stick with the most famous ones.. like caulk.. or one click stock.. or blend.. if you like stable stuff. stick with ginger bread. also make sure you wipe all by caulk before you install anything. and try to odin most install.. and don't install too much.. i think ICS official build is coming real soon, so just wait for official, and wait for rom that is based on official.
If you want a ROM where EVERYTHING is working as it should, you are still on Gingerbread. The leaks are stable and run great but there isn't one that is 100%....yet. There are some that are very close though

Jeez, theres one in every thread. WHAT makes you think I dont read? I read, read, read and when im done reading I watch reveiws by qbking77,then his install. Then read the 900 pages per ROM thread, then read some more. If thats not enuff for ya,I also frequent acs and read some more. let me retort, there are so many "leaks" that I cant keep up. Generally I stay clear of the fb build or ics because of what ive read about how there unstable. Jus didnt kno the diff. Everyone has been helpfull thank yall very much.. Im curently running calks ROM and hav had NO FC's or wacky stuff. So I am AWARE of the dangers. But thanks anyway...
I've flashed every rom there is. I'm not bragging, just saying. Never have I bricked. I'd say El29 is the best for Gingerbread roms. A flawless rom.. Go with Calkulins E4GT rom. I like v2.8.1.. I've never had any issues with his E4GT rom. I'm on Blend ics FC06 now. Just updated a few hours ago. Like he said, read read read. I never talk bad about a rom. All these roms are great! It's a gift to be able to try them out on your device.. But me personally, I'd go with Calks E4GT rom. There are many themes on here for El29 and for Calks rom... If you want the older version its in the bottom of this post. Follow directions and you will be okay. Regardless what you flash. Also if you need anything else.. Zips.. I'll be up another hour, maybe.. Lol. Yall have a good one.
Ps: Blend ics v1.8 is bad ass!!! Have recovery now too.

Anyway, if you want something that is stable, go with Blazer Rom. It is very solid. Based on Gb but once Samsung does an official release of ICS, I bet PH will update his Rom with that.

Np, and remember different modems work differently on different phones even if everything else is identical. So you may want to try them all and see which one gives you the best speeds with everything working. And don't forget to update your profile /prl in settings /about phone /updates
I'm also happy with the battery life, but I just came over from an EVO 4G so that might not be saying much.

All time fav dev and rom/android hof

So I was scouring the Eris forums today and I remember how I loved all of tazz's roms and what he did for the Eris community. He was the first dev I was loyal too and after I left evil Eris I stayed on all tazz roms..
I flashed tazzfroyo, floyo, his sense roms, you name it I flashed it. He saved the Eris. He is one of the reasons we have mac and cs today.
And I just wanted to give him a shout out as my all time fav dev and his cm7 rom as my fav rom.
This being said our devs are great as are our roms. But how those roms changed that phone was something else..
So, who is your all time fav dev and what's your all time fav rom?
Let's make a hof for these great guys.

That's a tough question knipp. The first ROM I ever flashed (on the eris no doubt) was white widow v2. From there I flashed froshedyo. I was hooked from then on and I flashed GSB next. I stayed with workshed for a loooong time after that. He is one of my favorites still because he did such an amazing job with GSB. Condemnedsoul still is my all time favorite though. I flashed his ccm7 around the time the Google maps started to mess up and i always went back to his ROM on the eris. I actually got a dinc2 because he got one LOL. On this device I keep coming back to his ROMs. i try using other for a while but they just don't continue to be as stable over a long period of time. I can't stay away from sabotage sense.

Yeah with the Eris you were either with shed or tazz. I remember some major fights were both threatened to stop deving. I ran a shed rom once but I stayed with tazz. And now that we have mac and cs I expect to run most anything they put out. Aero is also high up there.

My all time favorite dev has to be ChevyNo1 from the og droid. He was never satisfied with "good enough," and was always improving something. His kernels were the most stable out of any I've ever run. He always addressed even the most insignificant problems, and never told someone that "that's just the way it is." I really miss him and his roms, I even strongly considered getting a droid x just so that I could follow him. He's the only dev I've ever felt compelled to donate to (though nitsuj is getting there).
Its tough for me as well. I've never really followed anyone and I never stay on a single rom for long. My first rooted was og Inc but all I really knew about was cymod I didn't even learn how to root on xda (YOUTUBE LOL) But just seeing how much progress has been made with ics I'd say touchpro or aeroevan. I know tp isn't with us anymore but those guys were pretty much asked to **** us an ics rom and beta6 is still a good less than RC ics rom. Nitsuj (JUSTIN LOLZ AGAIN) has also done tons for our device unfortunately I hate sense so I guess I can't really appreciate the work. Miui4 is getting better and better not to mention the mt4g port. I've ran condemneds senses briefly and they were amazing (still hate sense) Its awesome we have a group of seasoned devs who aren't dicks! All this being said I'm running cyanogen 7.2 RC1 lol

Newt (Newtoroot). His MikRunny ROM (and its various incarnations) is just superb. I try everything, and always end up going back.
Nitsuj is also very creative and prolific, and appears to be juggling the most ROM's at the moment. He's also very quick to respond to questions.
So, I don't want to start any kind of "dev war", but for me, its a toss up between the two - and everyone is the winner!

I also (despite how much of a **** he can be sometimes) love Protekk's work. AOKP is amazing, and he's done a lot for us in that regard. All with the help of aero of course.
I could go on about a bunch more devs. I love most of them lol. I guess this post is more of a thanks to all of our devs here. Even if I don't use your stuff, I probably have tried it lol.

I agree, I've run his kernels ever since I got into the root access game on my OG Droid. I tried a few others, but nothing else ever came close in terms of performance, stability, and flexibility.
I also respect the Kondik and the CM team. I ran CM5 on my Droid for what seemed like forever (at least not until CM7 was already quite well-established.
And last (but not least), Koush. CWM and ROM Manager were my phone's best friends for a long time.

Cyanogen and Koush were so important. None of this would be happening. And before them, a kid called Jesusfreke made it all possible.
The best devs are the ones who are doing it for themselves.. and for fun. One of the best early on was a guy named Dwang. Rock solid.
Worst of all time, never to be forgotten was Kingklick. So bad, he is where the term "kang" came from.
I am enjoying Aerovan. Seems like he puts a lot of effort in it.
I would start with zachxtr. He did an awesome job with the xtrSense and xtrRom builds. Tweaking and making the Eris stock roms fast, how it SHOULD have been in the first place! After that I went to GSB by workshed. Stuck with that til I upgraded to the Inc 2. Now its GingerBangSense by nitsuj17.
Though you can't deny those like CS, jcase, tazz, and others I can't think of right now. Lotta great devs then and now with some of the senior devs still at it today!

OP...... just flash away man. Thats half the the fun of all this. Try out all the ROMS you want. Find out which one u like the best and stick with it.
Read up on some threads and OP's. Find out what features each ROM offers and go from there.
Its really that simple. Everyone will have there OWN opinion on whats the best..... and thats just what it is. THERE opinion, not yours.
Flash away man and just find out what YOU like.
Good luck bro.

Personally I look for stability and battery life.

Yep...... and how you say you ''personally'' look for stability and battery just backs up what I'm getting at.
Everyone has there own likes and dislikes about what ROM they prefer. Thats one reason why these ''what's your favorite ROM and why'' threads never seem to work out.
No offense to the OP...... its just the way it is.
Truuu they do ...but it seems to going good so far ... I know a couple of my post got lock down lol

Where to start???

Hey, everyone! So, long story short, I pretty much jacked up my OG Droid Incredible a couple of weeks ago and was force to pick up a new device. I went with a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, basically because the dev support is huge. The only problem with it is, the dev community is almost too huge! I've been scoping out the development section and it has my head spinning as there's just so much to choose from! Anyone have some recommendations for a nice stable Jellybean ROM and kernel to flash to get started with? And what does everyone use for recovery? I wasn't anticipating getting a new device this quickly so I haven't really had any time to research and sift through all of these threads. Any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated! I look forward to being a part of this amazing community! Thanks everyone!

personally I always go with CM, and they did just start nightlies with CM10 (jellybean), kernels I just stick to what came with the rom, which is of course a CM kernel, and recovery, well you guessed it TWRP also brought to us by the CM team. There are many devs out there offering many great roms, but no matter what I always find myself going straight back to true CM roms, not CM based roms.

Man, we haven't had any official CM ROMs for the Dinc since Gingerbread. Everything ICS, and now JB, has been CM-based. I've never really been huge on MIUI but I'm willing to give anything a shot! There's just so much going on over here, I'm a bit overwhelmed!

BAMF Paradigm has been rock solid for me. It's close to stock with a handful of customizations. I'd say it's "just right"!
Is there any sort of Touchwiz theme or add-on that works with any of these JB ROMs? I know most people can't stand Touchwiz but I ran a CM9-based Touchwiz ROM on my Dinc for a while and absolutely loved it!

I guess you can search for themes that are compatible with CM10 theme chooser, but I don't think there's any Touchwiz ROMs. Also Touchwiz itself is not yet Jelly Bean, so it's gonna be pretty hard.
Welcome buddy! Glad to see your aboard the nexus train lol
As for ROMs.. this will depend on you specifically as I enjoy customization I went with -
JbSourcery and CNA, both stable and Jelly Bean.
Allow a huge variation of Customization, Miui was great with Gingerbread but since ICS it went to hell.
Kernels will vary depending on the ROM. Stock usually seems to be best.

Ahhh! A familiar face (well, username!) I was looking into that CNA. Looks like a good place to start. I'm pretty excited for all of the variety that goes on over here. Tomorrow can't come soon enough! I'm sure I'll have a few questions for you, as long as you don't mind. You were/are very helpful over in the Dinc forums for me so I'd imagine you'd be equally as helpful over here. Good to know there are some other converts as well!

Haha, indeed. Even started a sound quality thread.
The nexus sound quality isn't the greatest and at best can make it sound like the DInc.
Yeah go ahead, you'll see a few more familiar faces too! I have only seen Alton, Tiny "Rootzwiki" and Joelz, very rarely comes here. He released a Miui ROM yesterday I believe.

Personally I use TWRP recovery as it is very nice. I used the goo manager app in market to install it. Other than that I have tried many ROMs and all of them have been great but am now using paranoidandroid and probably will be from now on. It has things totally different than any other ROM and is really cool. With that I use the trinity kernel cause it performs well and I really like the colors. Also there is a touchwiz mod in the mods section that looks to be very complete. Look in there if interested to see what Ron they recommend on it.
