Im having trouble keeping up with all these leaks and builds. I own a sprint e4gt,im running the revamped rom.ive had trouble with every rom and this 1 seems to work. My real question is wats the diff between the fb builds and the EL29 or the EK02 builds. Which is sprint using, wich is more stable? Sorry 4 the stupid.jus thinkn bout flashing a fb deal
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
FB and FC builds are sprint/Samsung ICS based rom. But before you do anything with flashing PLEASE do your research and know that if you brick your device its your own fault.
Furthermore, this is obviously a question please post in the Q&A forum next time.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
The EL29 is an official Sprint release. EG30 was the release day launch. The other builds were test roms leaked from Samsung.
Official releases are generally considered stable, while leaks may contain bugs.

the lockscreen issue was roms/themes with the ICS transitions included with them. That was the root cause of problems for that. BlazerRom 4 is a good rom it has the ICS feel to it and it's pretty stable as well. I ran it for a while before I started to mess with the ICS leaks.

Man, I really don't wanna be rude or have this sound like a douche bag thing to say, but please, I am begging you, please read about this stuff. Like go through the threads until you completely understand what is happening and what the outcome of what you are doing will be. There have been about 50 hard bricks (almost completely unrecoverable damage) in the last 2 or 3 weeks. And those were done by both people experimenting and people who had a very solid grasp on what they were doing. Please, please, please research, or you will have yourself a schnazzy 500 dollar paperweight. You have been warned.
not only is there is risk of bricking your phone, but also know that ICS builds will be more risky.. most roms out there are made from ICS leaks.. so i don't think it's good idea for you to move back and forth so much.. take your time.. and just stick with the most famous ones.. like caulk.. or one click stock.. or blend.. if you like stable stuff. stick with ginger bread. also make sure you wipe all by caulk before you install anything. and try to odin most install.. and don't install too much.. i think ICS official build is coming real soon, so just wait for official, and wait for rom that is based on official.
If you want a ROM where EVERYTHING is working as it should, you are still on Gingerbread. The leaks are stable and run great but there isn't one that is 100%....yet. There are some that are very close though

Jeez, theres one in every thread. WHAT makes you think I dont read? I read, read, read and when im done reading I watch reveiws by qbking77,then his install. I've flashed every rom there is. I'm not bragging, just saying. Never have I bricked. I'd say El29 is the best for Gingerbread roms. A flawless rom.. Go with Calkulins E4GT rom. I like v2.8.1.. I've never had any issues with his E4GT rom. I'm on Blend ics FC06 now. Just updated a few hours ago. Like he said, read read read. I never talk bad about a rom. All these roms are great! It's a gift to be able to try them out on your device.. But me personally, I'd go with Calks E4GT rom. There are many themes on here for El29 and for Calks rom... If you want the older version its in the bottom of this post. Follow directions and you will be okay. Regardless what you flash. Also if you need anything else.. Zips.. I'll be up another hour, maybe.. Lol. Yall have a good one.
Ps: Blend ics v1.8 is bad ass!!! Have recovery now too.

Np, and remember different modems work differently on different phones even if everything else is identical. So you may want to try them all and see which one gives you the best speeds with everything working. And don't forget to update your profile /prl in settings /about phone /updates
I'm also happy with the battery life, but I just came over from an EVO 4G so that might not be saying much.

Just wondering what everyone else likes for a rom. Feel free to tell us your likes or dislikes with your current rom. With the choices we have available to us on this device, I'm sure some are wondering which rom is right for them.... this poll should give people some kind of direction.
EDIT: I must apologize. I must of been tired to miss putting viperROM on the poll list. Don't suppose there is a way to edit that poll is there?
I'm loving Starburst and glad I finally budged out of my curmudgeonly ways off of stock as I wait for CM. It's very full featured and allows tweaking without turning into a theme-fest. I was very surprised with it.
Though I am also preparing my phone to try out some other ROMs today....I'm a big fan of Calkulins work so I'm pretty eager to try that out.
Calkulin FTW
Although to be fair I haven't tried starburst yet. Didnt boot when I tried it but it was my first attempt at a custom ROM on this phone so I am sure I did something wrong

To be honest, and maybe this means I'm a ****, but when I read about people having all kinds of problems with a rom or a kernel or a mod or anything my first thought is automatically "they probably fncked something up."
A vast majority of the times this is, in fact, the problem. I'm on my 8th? 9th? Android device. I hack 'em up to pieces. I try to be a good boy and read everything thoroughly...but I don't. I skim for the important bits. If I screw something up it's usually pretty obvious, then I fix it, then it works. I have never actually had a ROM that has destroyed my battery life (I have with experimental kernels, but, to be expected), I have never lost 3G function, I have never gotten unfixable bootloops, I have never killed my wifi or 4G to where a full wipe and reflash didn't bring it back...never. For years now I have been hearing some wild problems from people and never actually experienced any of them for myself in a way that wasn't fixable, by myself.
I have gotten better battery life, faster internet, working youtube, faster wifi (the 'wifi n' mod on Evo4G), etc etc etc.
I don't know, I'm always skeptical of people claiming a rom or kernel are screwing things up when there are other people with no problems at all.
Alpha and Beta roms notwithstanding, lol
viper for some reason not on here..
but anyway, my vote is for viper. Need to try Calkulin more though
yeah.. where's viper? I think the rom is quiet good.. and nobody 's seems to complain much on his thread..

I am also not sure how to approach this. There are only a few roms that don't support wimax.. I suggest calkulins. It's my go to rom. I've heard starburst is pretty good too.. But in the future, please try to read a bit. maybe look at the roms that have a lot of view and/or comments. The OP of each thread will tell you just about everything you need to know.
IMO, there is no more stable custom ROM right now then UnNamed. If I wasn't so flash happy, I would stay with that but I'm changing ROMs every 2-3 days now...
But anyway, yeah UnNamed is the best ROM as far as stability is concerned.

MJHawaii is right.. UnNamed is a hell of a rom especially with a few tweaks added in. I am quite sure you will not find anyone unhappy with it. Also like mentioned before there is a whole development section of great roms. Just make sure when you try them all you do not restore data and flash all of them cleanly and not on top of each other.
For battery life on this phone may I recommend 200-800 since your phone can clearly handle it...

blazer is my daily driver.
i have not tried a single rom that has just flat out been unstable or unusable though; i steer clear of early/experimental builds, bust most of the roms in the dev section for this phone are pretty complete and comprehensive.
this is my first android device and initially i had trouble just rooting the thing, but thanks to xda's dev section my first flash was a piece of cake and i've had no issues or major complaints in 3 months of jumping rom to rom.
Just an observation. But your avatar shows you have at&t, shouldn't you be in a different section? This forum is for the Samsung epic 4g touch. Maybe thats why the roms aren't working. Unless you just havent updated your profile. (Im guilty of that as well)

The majority of the ROMs out there right new have very specific instructions on how to flash them.
If you're looking for a sick experience just use one of sfhub's one-click updates. They also have specific instructions on what to do.
Either way I'd still read the how not to brick thread. With all the leaks ICS for our phones is a constantly changing beast, anything you can read and learn from will help you prevent any bricking.
Good luck!
Is it even worth switching to the fd? I personally love the one im on but idk. Better.or worse then GB?

My advice to you is never leave blazer rom until full Ics source and kernels are released. Blazer rom is the only rom with unbelievable battery life and performance, I have made the switch to Ics many times over battery life performance is just unusable. Hopefully phantom hacker can do whatever magic he did with blazer rom to blazer Ics.
I'll keep that in mind, thank you. I'll continue to stalk the threads until something better comes along.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Well if he want a stable rom with Hotspot hack i recommend getting Phantom Blazer 4.1 Rom. But if he wants ICS roms CM9 will do.
I'm running M'ICS v 1.1. stable, good battery life and has sprint hotspot.
Let's be honest here, there are probably a dozen of these threads out here and I am quite sure a few quite recently. You could get a million different answers since it all really depends on the user themselves. There is so much that goes into deciding whats best for you I never get asking others. I mean opinions are great but personal experience is the best.
If you are just going to do if for every day use then flash the stock FF18, throw a recovery on it and flash the hotspot hack in themes and apps voila! you're done!
Sorry was not trying to flame I understand what you are asking just don't think a dozen people giving you different answers helps you. All the roms in development are great but all come with a little kwirk here or there.

Stability is one aspect, battery life is another. Best suggestion is to read through the threads of the roms that interest you and what style you like and test the battery life on it.
I personally like Wicked 1.5 and have 3 1/2 to 4 hrs on screen time. But that may not be the case for you. Based on what you run, how you run...
Browse away and give 'em a try but take head to flashing responsibly and read, read, read so you don't brick your phone.

I completely get it. It is alot to absorb.
There are 2 posts that I know of which are polling people about the roms in use but its all a matter of taste.
Besides the fact that some may be partial to a particular team, dev, etc.
Its just a hard question to answer.
Best solution is to try if you're willing. But there are safe kernals now and great people to give you advise if you get stuck.

after trying most roms, I have come to a conclusion! Aokp beautiful smooth great rom, has terrible data loss (los) both wifi and 3g. blue kuban rom, good rom many many features, no matter how many times I wipe and reinstall, I keep losing wifi. and f f 18, scrolling is too laggy. Cm9 LOS! ! ! Badly... Smooth and beautiful ROM, but I have to have data, and I have to the other make a call. So it was a no go for these roms. I'm thinking that we will just have to wait for source kernel to evolve. I have no doubt that these two roms will be the best soon.

CM9 Alpha 6 has some weird Data LOS but I assure you was not in Alpha 5 if that was your issue (Alpha 5 doesnt have recovery). Nightly 7-11 seemed to have been fine on that issue. If battery life was an issue the last Nightly that was FF11 kernel based (6-29?) is great as well as having a safe recovery baked in.
Just a thought on CM9 until the next release. Its my daily and I am never going back.

I really tried to like cm 9 but with the data loss it was just a no go. I originally went with the 712 build, quickly realized that was a bad idea and went with the 711 build. after a full wipe I still had data loss. if I can get data work properly on that that would be my favorite rom!

Well for cm9 los completely after 2 hours on the rom. Nothing installed our altered in anyway. Blue kuban, was great except i lost wifi after the phone sat for any length of time. But was an easy fix, toggle wifi off then on. Blue kuban was the best by far... Aokp los just like cm9 wifi &3g
I'm not sure what the triggers are! But in cm 9 and a o k p I could only get data back by restarting and even then it will come back sometimes.

Good to know and haven't strayed too far away from what I know.
I did try the Kuban for a bit but like I said, I either didn't have the issue or didn't notice.
And you're right. The next few weeks are hopefully going to be fun.

Try Mijz's "Goodness" ROM. I just reflashed it after running stock for awhile. I went back to stoc a while back because the leaks were to much to keep up with. Now I'm running Mijz's latest Goodness FF18 release and its smooth. No trouble so far, battery life settling in too.
Did you really need a whole new thread. Come on lol.

that's exactly what I'm getting at we are in such a great time for this phone, there is going to be a ton of development coming out, so in the meantime I'm going to be staying on my gingerbread rom while they get it done!

hey I'm willing to give that a try definitely! I did hear good things about that 1.
ics roms are not that bad... anyways. the galaxy s3 is the last galaxy s im getting. these devices are blazing fast and are probably the fastest out there but i figured that these devices does not have much support from sprint and developers so im going over to the nexus lines. ive had my galaxy nexus for a while now and i love it more than my gs3. well IMO this is what all i have to say. and im sure a lot of people here would agree too.

Daniel, i just wanted too share my experience, i don't think i did anything wrong. I also wanted to see if anyone felt the same. Or if i could learn something more. When i had los i posted in each of those roms threads, and received no response or help. And i understand there are a lot of people needing help. Also isn't this general thread why can't i post this? Just curious why you chimed in with that.

While I don't see anything wrong with creating a thread about your issues, I feel it would have been more productive to have it in the Q&A section. Asking if others had the same findings as you and what they might have done to resolve them seems like a better way. While I don't think you meant it to come across this way, it could be read by some that those roms you listed have problems that many many other folks are just not seeing. The fact that your seeing similar issues across so many options, maybe some basic troubleshooting questions needs to be asked.

When is it NOT happening to others? Still outstanding. So is it that others are less sensitive to the phenomenon? Is it geographical? Is it some external factor like a common app you use or a specific setting or procedure you follow when setting up your phone? Are you using the FF18 modem for all these builds you tried? Etc. Etc.
I am not discounting your findings or saying your wrong at all, just suggesting you indict the phenomenon and not the rom until everything else is ruled out. I for one have been running ICS leaks since April and have only seen LOS to be a problem specific to one early leak and the fd02 modem. And even then I can't prove it was the modem.

I am running AOKP milestone 6 with the 11115 prl and I have never had a problem with LOS. In fact I haven't had it at all with this one or on CM9. As a side note, some people say that you can't use custom prl's on ICS but I found that if you Odin to el29 and flash the prl 2 times it works wonders. 3G data roaming on Verizon and NO LoS
