El29 to fd16? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Ok I'm on blazer rom on el29. Im considering going to ics roms but I don't wanna screw something up. I'm fairly new to this stuff and I just need something to specifically tell me what to do and how to do it. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Check the sticky thread in general about how not to brick your phone. It explains everything 100%

The majority of the ROMs out there right new have very specific instructions on how to flash them.
If you're looking for a sick experience just use one of sfhub's one-click updates. They also have specific instructions on what to do.
Either way I'd still read the how not to brick thread. With all the leaks ICS for our phones is a constantly changing beast, anything you can read and learn from will help you prevent any bricking.
Good luck!

Is it even worth switching to the fd? I personally love the one im on but idk. Better.or worse then GB?

My advice to you is never leave blazer rom until full Ics source and kernels are released. Blazer rom is the only rom with unbelievable battery life and performance, I have made the switch to Ics many times over battery life performance is just unusable. Hopefully phantom hacker can do whatever magic he did with blazer rom to blazer Ics.

I'll keep that in mind, thank you. I'll continue to stalk the threads until something better comes along.

POLL: What is your favorite rom thus far

Just wondering what everyone else likes for a rom. Feel free to tell us your likes or dislikes with your current rom. With the choices we have available to us on this device, I'm sure some are wondering which rom is right for them.... this poll should give people some kind of direction.
EDIT: I must apologize. I must of been tired to miss putting viperROM on the poll list. Don't suppose there is a way to edit that poll is there?
I'm loving Starburst and glad I finally budged out of my curmudgeonly ways off of stock as I wait for CM. It's very full featured and allows tweaking without turning into a theme-fest. I was very surprised with it.
Though I am also preparing my phone to try out some other ROMs today....I'm a big fan of Calkulins work so I'm pretty eager to try that out.
Calkulin FTW
Although to be fair I haven't tried starburst yet. Didnt boot when I tried it but it was my first attempt at a custom ROM on this phone so I am sure I did something wrong

I haven't tried anything besides stock and star burst.I was seriously going to open a thread like this because I'm convinced that caulkin's is probably better. But my phones set up o-soo perfect right now idk what to do. After j see screenies and some themes for caulkin anhd hear good things about battery and smoothness I'm going to hold tight
If you want stable I'd go for this AOSP mod

I cringe when I see other people having problems on other roms, ranging from battery life to stability issues. I'll only leave this for ICS.

No doubt caulkulins roms is the best
Much smoother and faster than starburst or viper

To be honest, and maybe this means I'm a ****, but when I read about people having all kinds of problems with a rom or a kernel or a mod or anything my first thought is automatically "they probably fncked something up."
A vast majority of the times this is, in fact, the problem. I'm on my 8th? 9th? Android device. I hack 'em up to pieces. I try to be a good boy and read everything thoroughly...but I don't. I skim for the important bits. If I screw something up it's usually pretty obvious, then I fix it, then it works. I have never actually had a ROM that has destroyed my battery life (I have with experimental kernels, but, to be expected), I have never lost 3G function, I have never gotten unfixable bootloops, I have never killed my wifi or 4G to where a full wipe and reflash didn't bring it back...never. For years now I have been hearing some wild problems from people and never actually experienced any of them for myself in a way that wasn't fixable, by myself.
I have gotten better battery life, faster internet, working youtube, faster wifi (the 'wifi n' mod on Evo4G), etc etc etc.
I don't know, I'm always skeptical of people claiming a rom or kernel are screwing things up when there are other people with no problems at all.
Alpha and Beta roms notwithstanding, lol
viper for some reason not on here..
but anyway, my vote is for viper. Need to try Calkulin more though
yeah.. where's viper? I think the rom is quiet good.. and nobody 's seems to complain much on his thread..

Im getting my epic tomorrow and i need help, which roms do you guys think are the best for the epic 4g touch? or kernels or any other mods please leave your suggestions and opinions.
While there has been progress in the new ek02 rom's, including the android 2.3.6 update, I would suggest phantomhackers blazer rom, its fast and stable and very good on battery. Good start while the new 2.3.6 rom's get updated

I really like Calkulin's ROM. It's close to stock, which to me is an advantage, but includes some sensible additions. The latest version is based on the most recent leaked update and includes a modified kernal with a ClockWorkMod-based recovery.
I'd recommend new users check out qbking77's videos in this thread. They were a great help to me when getting started.
Enjoy your new phones!

The "AOS bug" is not ROM related. Read the forums here for an answer to what it is and how to "fix" it.
As far as the "best" ROM it's all subjective but I would go for Calk's 2.0. The man knows what he is doing.
I have always used stock kernel and stock rooted ROM for this phone. This had been the best user experience I have had in an Android. I am so happy with battery life I don't want to change.

Are there any ROMs that actually work

Are there any stable e4gt roms that are better than stock ek02 with everything working cuz battery life is a poor trade off for working features in my opinion. Example if wimax is not working or tether to get more battery life whats the point

I am also not sure how to approach this. There are only a few roms that don't support wimax.. I suggest calkulins. It's my go to rom. I've heard starburst is pretty good too.. But in the future, please try to read a bit. maybe look at the roms that have a lot of view and/or comments. The OP of each thread will tell you just about everything you need to know.
IMO, there is no more stable custom ROM right now then UnNamed. If I wasn't so flash happy, I would stay with that but I'm changing ROMs every 2-3 days now...
But anyway, yeah UnNamed is the best ROM as far as stability is concerned.
Oh and I got over a day of moderate use from it. Don't believe me though, try it out!
Have not tried unamed yet

+1 for Calkulin's roms. Good battery life, stable, so far I have not encountered any issues.
I've been extremely pleased with Calkulin's ROM. I have tried unnamed (which I also like) but I prefer the 5 icon dock and 5x5 app drawer and undervolt/underclock scripts in Calkulin's.
No, none of them actually work...stay on stock...

MJHawaii is right.. UnNamed is a hell of a rom especially with a few tweaks added in. I am quite sure you will not find anyone unhappy with it. Also like mentioned before there is a whole development section of great roms. Just make sure when you try them all you do not restore data and flash all of them cleanly and not on top of each other.
For battery life on this phone may I recommend 200-800 since your phone can clearly handle it...
no offence, but either dont flash and stay on stock or there is always the good ol flip phones!

Got to agree with the previous poster that suggested you just stay on stock. I'd prefer not having to see posts/threads like this in the future....
For the record however, I've been happy with Calk's, Unnamed AND for quite a bit of time now (a whole month or so!) Blend is my current Daily and it is brilliant.
But you.... you stay on stock....

blazer is my daily driver.
i have not tried a single rom that has just flat out been unstable or unusable though; i steer clear of early/experimental builds, bust most of the roms in the dev section for this phone are pretty complete and comprehensive.
this is my first android device and initially i had trouble just rooting the thing, but thanks to xda's dev section my first flash was a piece of cake and i've had no issues or major complaints in 3 months of jumping rom to rom.
Just an observation. But your avatar shows you have at&t, shouldn't you be in a different section? This forum is for the Samsung epic 4g touch. Maybe thats why the roms aren't working. Unless you just havent updated your profile. (Im guilty of that as well)

First time Samsung user, need rom advice

So I just rooted and installed CWM. Installing seems to be much different than the HTC phones I'm used to.
That said, can anyone recommend a few solid roms/mods that I should try out? It's pretty clunky trying to learn a new phone and what kinda development it has when you're a year or so late lol. Thanks guys n gals.

Rock solid stable: EL 29 based ROMs
Fun as hell: AOKP
Bleeding edge: stock ICS leaks
Try everything out, read instructions and stickies Over and Over.
Have fun!
Well first and foremost, research and read, read, read. That is probably the best advice you'll get. I wouldn't say any rom is necessarily better than the rest. Its all about opinion. Not to mention, same device or not, every phone is different. I think you'd be better off trying a bunch of different ones and deciding for yourself.
Good luck and welcome to the e4gt community.

I agree just use blazer or calkulin's rom..... READ AND RE-Read if you plan on taking the leap BE AWARE FLASHING ICS ****from the wrong recovery will brick you***** FLASHING ANYTHING IN THE STOCK ICS RECOVERY IS NOT RECOMMENDED.... WIPING IS ALSO NOT RECOMMENDED IN STOCK ICS RECOVERY... I bricked mines 3 times, all careless mistakes, I knew what to do just wasn't paying attention to details....

This thread is NOT a good idea. Soon it will be an all out flame war. These threads never last.
