The issue in here is resolved. So, if you wonder how to connect phone's USB storages into PC, please check the update 3 section in below.
If you are a user of USB utilities, stay away from FC22.
I'm not sure if this is an intended directional change from Samsung or if this function is missed by mistakes, but on FC22, I do not see the Settings > More... > USB utilities. I saw it until FC18 and it's not in FC22.
So, if you use your internal or external sdcard thru this tool, this would be a reason why you stay away from this rom until it's fixed -> Not valid any more
Now I moved back to FC18 from FC22 because I'm a kind of heavy user of this tool because it's really faster than any other method whenever I transfer the data between sdcards and my pc.
Maybe my eyes are wrong but I tried to find this function from everywhere in the settings but couldn't find. If someone find this function, please direct me to the right place.
Tweaked Calk's FC18 Rom is working fine (almost no defects) except the way entering the ##debug# mode. I'm still don't know how I can get the 'lock code' on ICS version (not MSL code).
(attached screenshots: first - from fc22, second - from fc18)
Now I'm sitting back and waiting for next build....
[Update1]
I've applied Fc22 Kernel and modem upon Calk's Tweaked FC18. - USB Utilities is still there.
Next update would be - factory reset and clean install FC22. Will follow up shortly
[Update 2]
Because I factory-reset my phone, it's taking longer than before to update. I'll post the screen shot in few minutes but Samsung replaced the USB utilities to Kies via Wi-Fi.
I've seen that Samsung in Korea, they are upgrading customer's phone thru visiting customer center or via 'Kies via Wi-Fi'. Are they following the same steps in here?
Because I installed Stock FC22, I ran Calk's Bare Rom Converter and it includes the scripts removing Kies APKs. I think that's the reason why it's not showing Kies via Wi-Fi (default in Stock FC22 instead of USB Utilities).
[Update 3]
Thanks to Dchibro, mdsevol and kali323
I don't need to test it any more. On FC22, the way phone communicate with PC has been changed a little. Usb utilities on the settings is removed and replaced with Kies via Wi-Fi.
So, to make the PC recognize the phone's usb storages, go to Settings > {} Developer options > turn off USB debugging > connect your USB cable
Another way connecting USB storages to PC (big thanks to elliwigy)
I pull status bar down and click the USB notification then turn USB mode on and it connects to PC for file transfer..
Once USB cable is connected, PC will recognize your internal and external sdcard.
I think this way is better than before and it would be one of the reason why I'm moving forward.
I'm on codename and flashed the fc22 kernel and modem.. no issues but I always plug it into PC to transfer stuff.. it loads right up..

Ok. Let me try to load fc22 kernel and modem on my current fc18 rom and check if it's still there. If it's there, then it's not the kernel or modem issue. I need to factory reset and reinstall the fc22 rom (I've already did that) and check again.
Anyone else?
All is well here

I'm updating my interim results at first post.
Does enabling USB debugging turn off MTP and make USB mass the default like it does on the GB ROM? I'm guessing no but I thought I'd ask.

The option isnt there on mine either, I am running stock FC22 with modem and kernal although when I connect my phone via usb it still gives me the option to connect mass usb storage. Is that what you are talking about?

Actually, by default, the way USB storage works in FC22 hasn't changed, it still defaults to MTP mode and is as annoying as ever, plus they removed the USB Utilities option in menu->settings->more so you can't manually enable it anymore.
The reason you got the impression it changed is because Calk modified a property in /default.prop (in the kernel he bundles with FC22) which controls how the USB storage is configured, so if you used his modified kernel to install FC22, the USB mode will be changed from MTP mode to Mass Storage mode. Once you have USB Mass Storage mode configured, it will be stored persistently in your Android User Data, so should you change kernels in the future, to one which doesn't have the change Calk made, USB Mass Storage mode will remain. The only ways it would get reset if if you wiped your Android User Data AND switched to a kernel which didn't have USB Mass Storage mode enabled in /default.prop
I have added a solution to the ICS USB Mass Storage annoyance to the Auto Root package. This will allow you to manually choose USB Mass Storage Mode (ie GB USB Storage behavior) for theoretically any ICS release, though I only tested it for FC22. Use Option E (Extra Options) followed by "Enable ICS USB Mass Storage Mode". This option will be stored persistently in your Android User Data, so it only needs to be done once (or whenever you reset your Android User Data)
Full writeup is here (and also in the FAQ of the Auto Root sticky)
What happened to USB Storage in ICS, how do I get the old GB behavior back?

The problem is that we are seeing lots of build every daily basis but there's no additional information about the new build. Only the way we would know the changes is through our own test. In here, we are being used as kind of testers even we are donating our own time for free. If someone who provide the source to our forum, if they have any kind of basic ettiquette, please provide the basic information regarding the change also. That will save lots of our time and prevent us from misleading and posting wrong information. But that would be one of their intention though.
Personally I want to add my thanks to sfhub for his kind explanation about what's going on and what's happening.

Try to re-flash the ROM. I just did the 1.1.1 update from 1.1.0 and i tested my usb mass storage works.
Or go to settings, applications, development, and check usb debugging

This is a known problem when usb debugging is not checked. If you check usb debugging you can then successfully mount the sd card for usb transferring.
To do that go to settings > applications > development
Then check the box next to "USB debugging"
Qb is right very odd I always had to turn off debug to get into the sdcard

Airplane mode enabled/disabled
after installing this ROM correctly I might add, no service is available due to airplane mode disabling and re-enabling itself over and over again. I'v re flashed, reinstalled, re downloaded, and used oden to recover back to factory multiple times and this problem keeps coming back. I'm using the original stock factory ROM atm, and would really like to fix this problem since i'v been a dedicated Syndicate fan for over a year now (new member to xda due to this problem)
I have this issue after ~5 flashes of v1.1.1. Ranging from data wiping all the way to odin to EC05 and back, but still have the issue. I've given up trying to fix it and just enabled debugging.
You can try enabling usb debugging, or try bluetooth file transfer or the app Samba filesharing.

Old thread, same issue here. I wanted to clarify what reflashing a rom would do. I am running MetroDroid 2.2 and usb charges fine.
Should I completely reflash the metrodroid rom?
Hard reset didn't help at all. Different usb cables and ports were of no luck to me either. Cord has snug fit.
bump .
Please clarify the issue for me. Does the USB register at all? Does it charge?
Note: HTC sync obviously only works on HTC roms. AOSP doesn't have this feature, only the disk drive option
Sent by Salvaged Supersonic!
USB charges only. Does not register on pc nor does a notification pop up on Evo.
thank you.
You sure you didn't accidentally click the "Don't ask again" option at the bottom? Settings -> Connect to PC and you should have default connection type, which you can change or leave at charge only (the default) and make sure ask me is checked.
I would suggest re flashing your ROM, may be a driver is corrupt.
Also, there would still be a notification if don't ask again was selected. Plus cm7 doesn't have the option to do that, only USB disk drive
Sent by Salvaged Supersonic!
If you're on CM7, you can't use HTC sync, sync only works on sense rom. Though if you can't be detected, go to the HTC site > support > downloads, then re-install sync, because you may have a bad driver.

Wait, instead of blaming the phone, have you checked the computer yet? Anything showing in device manager having an issue? Maybe the drivers on the computer are bad or need reinstalled? When I plug my phone into my computer (Win7 x64) Android USB Device -> My HTC and Portable Device -> F:/ show up in device manager when charge only is selected.
ok basically phone wont go into mass storage mode when connected to computer and it isnt recognized by odin or the the computer at all and let me get all these out of the way before im asked
ok first yes driver are installed properly i even installed kies twice and just the drivers from the samsung website to make sure i wasnt messing up somewhere
and then...
i also tried doing a nandroid of blazer rom and getting back to the gingerbread just so my phone would be recognized that also did not work
and then..
i just now bought the mobile odin app and tried flashing the stock eko2 kernel this did not work either
and then...
ive used the original USB cord and the one i bought to day as well as several different computers just to see if the pop up as recognized with show but nothing happens my phone seems like its no longer capable of going into mass storage mode
and then...
moved this here hoping someone has has this issue hopefully you guys can help ill be up all night so feel free to resond whenever thanks guys
make sure your phone is disconnected from the computer and then try going into the settings and in the top section that is wireless and networks press more, then USB utilities, and press connect storage to PC and then plug your phone into the computer. had about the same problem and came across that.
You can also try going into your device settings on your pc (samsung/modem) and resetting the driver it seems to get "stuck" sometimes.

+1 to this... its the new way to connect
I put this on my sd card (by taking the card out of the phone) and putting it in a card reader. I flashed the file from the stock recovery and this gave me custom recovery. Then I restored my previous backup. I was having the same issue and FB21 has too many bugs. I went back to gingerbread but kept fb21 modem.

I know there are many of us that use programs like Airdroid to get files into our phones but transferring large files can be time consuming if. Im not sure if i am the only one but CM9 nighties for the nitro has no USB MASS storage. I was able to mix a couple of things to get it working on the Nitro.
First Head to this thread to download the flash-able zip file or you can follow the given instructions. It is a script that can be flashed with Recovery on our phones that will enable usb mass storage.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23880938&postcount=35
once you have that flashed, I cleared my cache and dalvik cache to be safe and flashed it again (you may not need to). When that is ready and your phones has booted, plug the phone to your computer via USB. All of the drivers should install except 1 which should be called MTP USB Device. It will try to install but at the end it will fail.
At this point, go to device manager and look for the MTP USB Device
Note: it should have a yellow triangle next to the icon.
You will then Right click and choose select update driver. Select 'browse my computer for drivers' and then choose "Let me pick drivers to install". You will get two options select the USB Mass storage and click OK.
Note: The new driver will be called Linux file CD Gadget
Unplug your phone from the computer and then back it. When the USB mass storage pops up in your phone, click connect and the media card should appear in the pc like a regular usb card.
Thanks to VAXXi for creating the sript and desean for compiling it into a flashable zip (both at the Samsung Galaxy S II forums in XDA) and thanks to sameer.verma at the androidcommunity forums for the explanation on how to update the MTP driver.
Disclaimer: I have only tried this on Windows 7 (Home Premium) 64-bit computer and on a USB 2.0 Port (will not work on USB 3.0). I am also not responsible for any damages to your phone. DO A NANDROID BACKUP TO BE SAFE! I also do not guaranteeing that it will work for you.

Ohhh, I forgot, you have to go into device manager and manually update the device driver to use the USB mass storage driver. Once you do it once, though, your device will always be recognized by your PC as a mass storage.

I never knew that this was possible from the beginning. But hey now its out here for others to see.' it didn't take me long. Only like 10 minutes max. I only use this to transfer large files (movies or a large amount of music), everything else I do on airdroid

Yeah it is. It took me a while to figure it out too. My default from the beginning was actually mass storage mode. I had to find it to figure out what people were talking about in regards to MTP. While we're on the subject, MTP also works with the LG drivers, but I find that switching between the two can be a pain in the ass and sometimes requires removing devices from device manager to make device manager select the correct driver.
.....
At this point, go to device manager and look for the MTP USB Device
I could not find MTP USB Device! there is none!!

Resurrecting a fairly old thread, but I have tried, without success, to enable USB Mass Storage on CM10. Is it even available in CM10 yet?
