I have seemingly screwed up my phone. for some reason the back light will not come on when my phone is on. If I hold it just right "in the sun only" I can see that the screen is on, and can manipulate the UI. What part of the phone is broken?: the digitizer, lcd screen, some video card part of the motherboard? thanks in advance for your help.
??
Do I have this post in the wrong spot, or has no one dealt with this issue?

Have you confirmed that your system brightness is turned up? If it's a hardware issue, do you have insurance, or are you under warranty?
If the backlight isn't working, it's either a software or hardware issue. If it's software, a factory reset may clear it up, or flashing a stock rom/kernel if you are rooted.
If it's hardware, its the backlight, which is part of the actual LCD.

ROM: LeeDroid v1.3 i think
Recovery: Clockwork
Over the week I've noticed my screen been playing up abit. The display sometimes went dim (though it was natural due to my auto brightness).
Today, I cannot see my screen at all. Did the obvious troubleshooting steps.
- take out battery, simcard, sdcard,
- insert battery, enter to recovery mode
nothing, I can feel the phone vibrate on bootup, still no display.
Was thinking sending it away for warranty, but the phone has been rooted.
Will this cause any issues?
I suppose it will cause issues. Except if they swap it instantly in service.
The only thing you can do is to run a 1, 32 ruu and than if it does not fix going blindly and try to revert ENG s-off if you had.

I was haa similar issue. The lockscreen would show for like 2 seconds after boot but then the screen would go black and the backlight would still be on It was like my phone had frozen with the screen off. I flashed the rom again but without wiping so i could backup everything then done a full wipe.

Can't get into recovery because screen has no display.
Phone as good as a paperweight, not even a torch
Will have to send away for warranty replacement

To be honest, I was reading the Limited Warranty pamphlet that was in the phone's box last night.
It explicitly states that ONLY hardware components is covered by the limited warranty and specifically excluded software and accessories from the limited warranty. (Sorry, dont have the exact wording now, but it is noted in point 4)
So if there is no warranty on software, how can modifying the software that does not alter the function of the hardware void your warranty?
I am no lawyer, but this sounds pretty straight forward to me.
I highly doubt it will hold up in court, if tested.
If they do contest it. Tell them to put on the default stock ROM and see if the problem still persist.
First off, im more than confident it is a hardware problem.
I was out climbing in the sun at the weekend using my phone for pics etc.
Went to sleep and when i woke up (by the alarm) the touchscreen wouldnt work so i pulled the battery to get alarm to stop.
Restarted multiple times - no effect
Flashed all stock ftf's - no effect
Flashed lots of different kernels and tried lots of roms - no effect
Hardware keys still work, i can change volume and get the power menu to appear and obviously wake the phone with the home button
My only idea of what has happened is the phone has seriously overheated and damaged the digitizer which i have read is quite delicate.
Any ideas before I take phone apart to replace?
Im 2 months away from upgrading!

if you did this and nothing happens, i think it is hw problem...
Yeah I figured as much.
Just taken the phone apart and re-assembled just to make sure I can do it and it works haha
Much easier than I thought!
Ill update when I fit the new one.
Touchscreen not functioning can also mean that you flashed the wrong kernel. Did you check before taking apart the phone?
Edit: Misread what was in front, problem could be hardware related.

How can it be kernel issue, if he took pictures and the next morning touch screen stopped working?
Update.
Replaced the entire screen/digitizer assembly today. Powered phone on, screen still displaying properly and hardware keys still work.
But touch STILL wont work.
Run out of ideas now, there's nothing else to replace apart from the main board or hardware keys board.
So I suppose its bye bye xperia arc
Why are all new phones so damn big haha
I was using my phone normally then the
Next day I wanted to use my phone
And it booted But the screen wouldn't show
Anything but it vibrates and receives calls and
Makes noise for notifications etc but screen is black
I'm running android 2.3.7
My bootloader is locked
If there's any fix can someone help thanks
Could someone help please :crying:

Maybe it's slider flex cable, or maybe it's dead display.
Flex is cheaper for repair..
If you already expirienced screen malfunction, keys (front/dpad) not working sometimes, front camera sometimes don't work or automatic light sensor (brightness level) errors then is bigger probability that it's flex cable.
Either way, if you don't know how to open your Play, maybe it's better to give it to some repair shop (or anything similar you have in your city) because it's most likely hardware issue.
You can try to flash stock firmware, to see if it's software issue (but that will reset your data and apps)

Thx for the help
I've been having this problem since the other day. The day before that, the phone's just working perfectly fine, tho, when I woke up in the morning, the phone just suddenly got this screen glitch. It only seems to be having a glitch in dark backgrounds... But given some time, the glitch disappears, but then again, if I turn off the display and leave it some time, the problem reappears.
Please look at the vid.
I don't think it's a hardware problem since the splash image isn't affected and the glitch seems temporary, but changing ROMs doesn't help. I haven't tried the stock firmware tho. Gonna download the stock fw and try it and see if the problem still persist.
Hi,
It's a hardware issue.
It's not related to any ROM you're using.
I've same problem as you and I decided to return it to stock and sent it to the nearest Asus Service Center (in Makassar) via my local seller because there is no one here in my location.

its not hardware issue if that not happen when you use screen recorder.
give a try then...
@baonxxx
This isn't related to software. I had this screen glitch even on stock (applies to everything: Splashscreen, etc) and caused difficulties on normal usage.
By general you can trigger this screen glitch by let the phone heating for a period of time, like let the phone idle for hours, charging, or let the screen on around the time. *only on affected devices*
You may need to read OP once again.

as u can see in the video , it doesn't really affect the splash screen, tho if flashing back to the original fw doesn't help, then I may need to get it to Asus Service Center for them to check.

I know that, but when the screen glitch becomes worse, it would happen on everything.

hhmm, not really everything, only glitches on dark backgrounds... seems like the screen on my phone's having a problem on dark backgrounds.
it is definitely a HW issue. did your phone ever fell on the ground?
this usually happens when there is loose connection between the mainboard and the display.
if you haven't void the warranty, send it for repairs, otherwise open the phone and fix it yourself (just detach and properly reattach the display connector, and make sure it's grounded properly).
@pecholino
Only unlocking the bootloader with official method provided by Asus could void the warranty.

damn it's a HW issue and it's getting annoying... gonna send it back for repairs... damn I didn't even dropped the phone once, so much for ASUS.
It happens with me too. On stock firmware. But is very rare and temporary. Turning off the screen and then again waking up solves it.

it happens to me on stock as well. Same as yours turning off the screen and waking it up makes it normal. so it's not a firmware problem? or is it?

I don't think this is a hardware problem as so many people are having this problem.
This problem happened to me the next morning after I updated to 2.20.40.168 I didn't drop me phone in between the time I updated and the time I first seen it happen. I've already sent my phone in and Asus replaced my motherboard. I got it back and problem was still happening.
The problem may go away for you if you set Developer Options, Disable HW Overlays but the setting does not seem to persist after a reboot.
quick settings
I noticed another remarkable phenomenon. When I open the quick settings, the defect is gone. But I only can operate in the quick settings, nothing else.
The screen freezes until I open the quick settings. -
I have reinstalled all software, even the boot partition. The defect already occurs in the splashscreen and fastbootscreen. -
I have opened the plug connection to the screen and connected again. -
So far everything in vain. -
ASUS claims, it is a defect on the motherboard. - I am afraid they are right.
It is a hardware issue. The problem is with the screen, precisely, the multiplexer on the screen. But since it is a part of the LCD itself, you will have to get the entire display module replaced.
Replacement displays are available on eBay/Amazon and you can get instruction guides on YouTube.
If your phone type z00AD Try downgrade your rom only to 2.12.40.11.. its solved my problem..

I'm not sure why my LED lights for the navigation button stopped working completely. No it's not the option in the Display setting, both options have no effect.
I purchased a new charging board (it includes the buttons) thinking the board was somehow damaged and replaced it as well, still doesn't turn on.
The buttons still work, I just kind of miss the light... Does anyone know what other hardware possibly could cause this? Or have a schematic for this phone?

Is your phone bone stock or have you unlocked it and run custom software? Have you tried backing up all the data stored on the device, and then doing a full device format and RUU?
Did you void the warranty when you replaced the charging board?
Oh I just thought of something. You have battery saver and extreme battery saver disabled right? And you're not using any third party power saving effects?
Sent from my HTC 10 using Tapatalk
Warranty is def void, not that it was in warranty anyway anymore. This phone is way old. I daily a S8 now, the 10 is my business phone now. I'm trying to avoid a RUU but the phone is basically rooted with no custom rom, all I run is adaway. Never had issues in the past with it.
Same problem
I have the same exact problem and bone stock s-off and rooted Plus I just I did RUU. What else is there to try?
Issue still persists, I don't even care to mess around with it anymore. Phone isn't my daily driver so I'm just going to live with it for now, until someone figures out what causes it. If you do somehow figure out what the problem is, please let us know.

Did you change the battery? I have changed mine and suddenly both led stop working.
I can't find any solution yet. Is not a serious problem, just miss the backlight.

Same, never figured it out. Changed the buttons out too with new and it didn't fix it. Sold the phone like-so a long time ago. Good luck!
Have the same issue as you, after battery change. Did you resolve it in the end?
You can't fix the light. This is a problem for all HTC's 10. I bought 8 new pair of buttons from different seller. Light doesn't work at all on ALL 8.
