Hi there.
In currently running stock battery and struggle to get like 7 hours moderate use
What's the best battery on the market in the Uk which isn't too expensive
Cheers

The stock battery is the best out there. The other ones who claim to have more mah are just fake mah's.
You just can't put more mah's in the same size!
How old is your battery?, I bought a new one last week and I am now on 8 hours, with 58% juice left!
I'm using Redemption v1.0-Alpha, but also had VQ RC3.

Hmm, what drains most juice from your battery?
And did you have this also on stock rom?
This is my status now:

Screen which is at 75%-80% usage even at 1/2 brightness
But its the fact that to get any performance on battery life at all out of my phone i have to not use it which is what I don't like about it or i have to have a realy dim screen.
Quick browsing of Facebook and tapatalk can easily drain 10%
Yes I did have it on stock rom but ICS has improved it a tiny bit
Have you tried to reflash the rom?
That may help sometimes. And otherwise try another rom, RC3 gave problems with me so now i use Redemption, works very smooth.
Yeah I have
I might try the calibration trick where you:
Turn your phone on and charge it for 8 hours or more
Unplug the charger
Turn your phone off and charge it for one hour
Unplug the charger
Turn on the phone and wait 2 minutes
Turn your phone off and charge it for one hour
Unplug, turn it on and use as normal. Your battery life should now be a lot better
See if it helps
if not I might try a few different roms
Cheers the replys
I have tried that also, and also whiped my battery stats with my old battery. But it never helped me.
Let us know if it helped you!
Will do
people are reporting that battery pulls at every turn off seem to help
How much do you actually use your phone to get 9 hours at 50% (display on time)?
It doesn't helps you to pulln the battery out. After restart you see about 5/10% more battery, but in a couple of minutes its at the same level before the pull
Well that was not with much use. Mostly on WIFI and sometimes 3g on. Some browsing and twitter/facebook.
Today i had left 3g all time on and used my phone as I alsways do.
Keep in mind this battery is new and has only be fully charged 3 times, so it doesn't have his full capacity.
See attached foto's!
Been on stock battery and ROM for the first year of my DHD, battery life was absolutely horrible.
By the time I got into running custom roms my stock battery no longer held a very good charge. I picked up a couple Andida batteries, they say they are rated for 1800mAh but after running some tests they are just about the same as a new stock battery.
Been running on them for a few months now and I get just over a full day with my usage habits.

Has the battery life decreased since you first got them? Or do you get the same result as in the beginning?
There's an app called battery calibration in the google play. It shud help with ur battery life problem, it calibrates the battery after every flash of a new rom
---------- Post added at 08:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:59 PM ----------
roms also can have a negative impact on battery so make sure that that isnt ur problem
No need fot that app. You can wipe the battery stats with EXT4/ CWM.

So i charged my phone as usual, and four hours later it was crying for power. The problem is that i barely touched the phone during the four hours in question...

The phone is about 2 months old. I flashed CM7 last week, however this is the first time my battery drops dead so fast, given i didn't have any apps opened or whatever... (i kill everything with Advanced Task Killer before turning off the display).
The sync and data traffic were both on, but that's how they are all the time...
Please help me figure out what happened. The phone is on the charger atm, I will check if the same thing happens again when it charges up.
Always, after flashing a new rom, you must run Battery Calibration...
As I said, i flashed CM7 last week and this is the first time my battery drops so fast... So i doubt it has to do with calibration... I will wait to see if the battery drops so quickly again after its recharged and if so i will calibrate it.
which cm7 did you flash? im using the 110822 boot179 nightly, and my phones dead in 12 hours... but that only started two days ago, im using it since the 25th!
Don't use task killer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=678205
When system is out of ram it will automatically kill unnecessary process. And process which use ram only don't waste your battery
i use the ram optimizer (link in my signature), that works very good as well!

Hi,
I am having this kind of battery drain issue (not so big but still) with this kernel cm7-110822-1650-BOOT179-4-Jordan.zip.
Which kernel do you use and where can I find some informations about this kernel battery drain please?
I am following the cyanogen thread since some weeks now and a lot of people seems to use this kernel

I'm running cm7.1.0 RC1 v2 (which should be using the 179 kernel in question), i also applied the RAM patch from your sig, so I'm not using atkiller anymore, also i got the battery calibrated.
Phone's behaving fine now but I still got no clue as to what caused the problem or if any of the things that I did fixed it.
And it was all fine until last night when my battery dropped from 80 to 1% in about 8 hours when i was sleeping. I will be flashing 0901 later today... This is starting to get very annoying...
Update.
Yesterday I installed BatteryMonWidget and here's what happened last night:
-1171mA in the middle of the night with both data and sync off ...
I am running Nightly 0901 with battery calibrated and all, It was behaving the same way with RC1 v2, I didn't have BMW then but it was having the same kind of drops in the battery use graphs...
So any suggestions?
Looking at your battery during the loss it goes from 70% down to 49% - now a few people, me included, have a strange issue with the battery % at around the 49% level. Mine tends to go from 59% down 49% & this is only when I charge it to a full 100%. If I let it discharge lower than 49% then charge it to an indicated 95%, which the Defy actually reads as fully charge, then my battery discharges normally without any jumps. It's always been like this for me regardless of being on CM7, froyo etc. & makes no difference wiping battery stats or calibrations.
You could also get alogcat from the market & see if it shows any abnormalities during that time incase your issue is caused by something else.
Also if you keep an eye in your settings menu, battery use & see if Android OS is using a lot of battery at that time.
Likewise look in the spare parts app, battery history, other usage, CPU usage & see if any process seems abnormaly high - maybe "suspend" as this is an issue for many people at the moment.
Thank you for the reply.
About the charge-discharge drop - It happens to me too, but not on every charge/discharge... Today when I was charging my phone and it went from 77 to 100 in 5 minutes. (indicated as ~1400 mA jump by BMW). Also i had another huge drop in battery around 11am (42% to 19%)...
I have been keeping an eye on the battery usage statistics and CPU usage too, but nothing strange there...
You can see the two drops and the charge jump on the screenshot:
i've got the same issue like you 2! with RC1V2 my battery dropped from 54% to 49%.
now with RC1.5 it goes down from 59% to 49%.
that's very strange.
for what it's worth
For what it's worth-- I am running standard OTA Froyo, and after I noticed in just the past couple of months of very warm to darn near hot to touch, and dramatic battery power loss compared to when I first owned it, I started trying different things to manage that-- turning off Wifi, 3g etc-- what I found on mine was that turning off "background data" in the data manager settings, did the trick for me-- it has returned to the optimal power status/standby time I was used to, when I first started using it.
I haven't tried fiddling with the "background data" setting, but today i got the exact same drops at the exact same percentages, which leads me to believe that it has to do with the charge estimation method. So today i put a brand new battery in my phone and im waiting to see if there will be a similar dip in the charge level as with the older one.
Here's a pic of the drops:
Battery Calibration helped me, too !
Another update
After I changed the battery the drops disappeared, however i have a new smaller drop (60 to 50%), I have to see if it will appear again after the next charge. However my phone is alive and kicking after 48 hours of use with about 40% battery left. So I will go ahead and say that my old battery was faulty/misused or for whatever reason it was not performing optimally.
I will give it to a friend with a defy and ask him to install bmw and use it for a week and let me check the logs afterwards, i suspect they will be more or less similar to mine regarding the charge drops.
heating
btw, do you have heating problem? it might be becuse of some overclock or wrong vsel. check that too.
Or is this a bad unit?

I was getting life like that until I upgraded my ROM to Calkulin's 2.0. Heres a screen shot.
BlStboy your battery life is normal for sure. Im am totally obsessed you could say with battery life. I was getting 5+ hours on stock rom with stock kernel and then tried out star burst and it went to 3 1/2 average. On caulkin's its the same but with much better performance and reliability. Idk why stock gave me such good life. But i know i. Like caulkin's the best because his is a bit smoother over stock and allows more tweeks. Ill upload my current this. Minute battery screenie's for you buddy. One sec
Here are the pics i promised. Almost exactly the same as yours. ICS should increase battery life some i imagine as its all hardware accelerates and new OS's always provide better battery tweaks. Hope thia helps, if it does dont mind hittinf the thanks button
EDIT- the only reason it shows my battery life at 24% is because i stuck my gf's battery in because my battery was at 4% and i didnt want it to die while i uploaded the pictures to you
im currently on 35hours and at 18%. i am runnning Calkulin's 2.0 (not bare) and ek02 modem. also right after installing 2.0 i charged my battery with wall charger to 100%, then quickly plugged into my PC until it said 100%. then i pulled the battery out for 100 seconds then rebooted. i am currently still on that cycle.
Thanks for the replys guys as soon as I get my jig im installing culkin 2.0 :-D I wanted to wait for an official ota so I wont get stuck like the eg31

5+ hours? I watch netflix with 30% brightness for 6 hours and then my phone dies. But i get at least 14-18 hours out of my phone with heavy usage. Blazing ROM EG31 Modem.
Wipe battery stats and calibrate.
It's a good day when I get over 12 hours w/ ~2-3 hours of screen on time (calk's rom). Quite disappointing, but better than the 6-8 hours I used to get on stock before calibration.
...
I've only had the phone for about 2 days now. With just a few short calls and quite heavy wifi use (customizing!), I think I got around 5-6 hours? I could be wrong though..
I've honestly been getting different results fairly regularly. I spent about two weeks on Calkulin's 1.5a, and during that time I had days where I would go twenty-six hours before getting to 10%; today, I'm at just under five hours and sititng at 73%. I cannot get consistency from it.
I rooted my Evo for the first time 8 days ago and I really like the ability to control more features of the phone and being able to try different roms. Before rooting I had poor battery life and I had hoped that rooting would help. I have tried MikG's, Tomatos Classic, and I am currently on Decks 1.3 with the Lee kernel.
My battery life is still very poor. If I make some phone calls or use the web (even on wifi) it might last 3 hours. I've read for hours about doing radio updates, but I am on the current one as far as I can tell.
Also, when rebooting today I went from 53% battery life to 21%. The reboot was fast and took less than a minute. I will post some screens.
Any ideas on how to fix my issue?

I got a couple new anker batteries off ebay. They should be here monday or tuesday. I hope it does the trick.
Anyone have any other possible solutions?
Try calibrating your battery. Your batterystats.bin file is on the data partition iirc, so when you wipe data you wipe that file. Doing so creates a new file upon boot, and if you don't calibrate properly then you'll have weird issues such as the fluctuating battery reading. The best option is to either calibrate or only flash when you're at 100%. Try calibrating to get there, then when you wipe and flash only do so fully charged. If not wiping data, you should be fine.
There are guides available on calibrating the battery, as well as a battery calibration app.
If you're getting extra batteries, I'd invest in a wall charger as well if you don't get one with the batteries you ordered. Charging your batteries in an external charger will eliminate any battery stats issues in the future.
Good luck!

Be sure to follow the full calibration technique. Charge to 100, wipe batterystats, drain without breaks, charge fully without breaks. Incorrectly calibrating will keep your phone in the same condition it was.
However the wall charger should eliminate those problems. If problems persist with all batteries after charging externally, it's something with your rom or your phone.

Im going to assume that the roms you are using are sense roms i know mikg is i tried it out with the anthrax kernal and had pretty good battery life. i have noticed though if you go with cm7.2 and a tiamat kernal i had the best battery. not sure if that will help or if it is a battery calibration issue.
I got the new anker batteries in the mail today. Charged one up and am trying it now. I will update later with the results.
Ok. So it was definitely a battery issue. On my second charge with my new anker batteries and after 11 hours of use im still at 68% battery life. So it has a potential to last 30 hours on one charge. I guess it just goes to show you that these batteries are meant to be replaced periodically. Thanks to all who tried to help me out!
Jake
I had very bad battery issues with my Evo 4g. bought 2 new batteries and now I get great battery life
Im currently at 40% battery life after 30 hours since charge. Little use though. Only 1.5 hours on calls and 1.5 hours with display on. And this is with a sense 3.5 rom! I wish I had bought new batts a while ago.
I just got my Glide a few days ago. From the specs of the phone and reviews online I was expecting the battery to last very long, but that hasn't been my experience.
My battery was going down about 10% every hour which means I would barely make it through a work day without charging it again.
I found a great app called Battery Mix that tracks battery usage and estimates how long the battery is going to last. It shows a number called P/H (percent per hour) which tells you how many percent per hour the battery is going down (or up if you're charging). You can find the app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.smapho.battery_mix
When I first installed the app I was getting about 12.5 P/H which means the phone will only last 8 hours. I then uninstalled a few apps that use battery, but that didn't help much. Somebody said their battery improved when they formatted their SD card, so I just removed the SD card from mine. Now my battery consumption is down to about 8 P/H. The best I've seen is 7 P/H. This is better but still would only get me 12 hours and I'm not running all the apps I would like to be running.
I have JuiceDefender running now on the balanced setting. I'm running the Osimood ROM with Android 2.3.5. I've removed all background network polling apps like Facebook. Android OS is using 56% of the battery followed by display at 15%, so there isn't anything else that's eating up my battery.
How is the battery life on your Glide? Could you please install this app so we can compare numbers?
Woah, 56% battery life for the Android OS?
On daily usage it barely gets above 20%. The screen takes most battery life.

Thanks for the info.
Mine has been sitting on standby most of the day so that's probably why display is so much lower on mine than yours.
The high percentage of Android OS doesn't really worry me. It doesn't mean it's using a lot of battery; it just means it's using most of whatever is being used which could be a small amount.
Mine is doing much better now. P/H is down to 4.3 which means it could last 23 hours.
I really think the problem was the SD card. I'll pick up a different one after work today and see if it works better. I need a bigger one anyway.
I also found a thread that talks about corrupt image or video files on your phone causing bad battery life. That could definitely be what I'm experiencing. Should be fun figuring out which image is causing the problem.
what about downclocikng your cpu to 800? it will help i belive.
OK just installed it. I will let you know how mine is doing in a few days. I am fully Rogers stock.
I replaced the SD card and it seems to be doing better now. There may have been images on that card contributing to the problem.
I actually had GPS, wi-fi and bluetooth on the whole time. I've turned them all off now.
I've also underclocked it to 800. Thanks, taiber2000.
It looks like for the last hour it only dropped 3 percentage points.
If you are rooted and have ClockworkMod installed, you can sometimes get better battery life by resetting your battery stats. I think there are even some apps for rooted phones that will do it, but I don't have any experience with them. I can say, however, that resetting my battery stats using CWM increased my battery life significantly.
See here for one guide on how to do it: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/bugless/111009-get-better-battery-life-reset-battery-stats.html
sjbotha your welcome.
i belive i will do the same when i'll get my phone as well. altugh i will install the OC rooted kernel for better overall performance i will still downclock via software, not need the extra sterngh for my uses and i better have longer use time then CPU power.
I get 4.9 but the other day I was getting 12. All I did was Reboot my phone and I haven't started many apps. I think when they start they stay in memory.

Mine depends on usage:
-about whole day wifi-on with 3 hours games and calls; if battery is 100% at 6am, it will be 20-30% at 10pm
-whole day HSPA+ on, 2 hours phone calls + SMS/MMS, emails etc; if battery is 100 at 6am, it will be 50-60% at 11pm or before I sleep...
in terms of P/H:
-i get 3-5 P/H when wi-fi, Auto-Sync is on.
-i get 2-4 P/H on HSPA + Auto-Sync on.
-about 1-2 P/H or sometimes a straight line on Battery Stats when Idle, no data connection and/or auto-sync is on.
in other words, the glide can handle my needs in a whole day without completely draining it's battery.
My battery is running out after 2 years and more usage. What is an excellent replacement for desire Z/G2 battery?
Thanks

I bought a HTC original battery from eBay for the Incredible S for about 8 EUR. It's the same battery as ours, only with more capacity, 1450mah.
I also had an old battery, at least two years old. The new one's performance is incredible, almost two days with medium usage. Using Gen.Y VisionX R3.

I plan on picking up a new battery soon, recently the phone has been randomly rebooting. I read this might be a battery issue, so a fresher, longer battery life can't hurt.

I've found that the problem with random reboots are the battery contacts. Try reinserting the battery a few times.
I'm using a Mugen 1800mAh, best money I ever spent on my DZ. Running a nice stable and optimized ROM I was getting over 40 hours battery life which was amazing with my usage patterns. It still fits into the phone using the standard rear cover also.

Good to know, thanks for sharing!
There are so many crappy "high-capacity" batteries coming from china... We don't know who to trust.
Thanks!
Hey guys, just bought an Ankers 1600mAh battery, does anyone know a good procedure for replacing batteries? And I don't mean take the back off... :silly: Do you suggest I do a full charge, wipe battery stats, replace? What are your thoughts? Thanks very much
HERE ARE SOME GOOD TIPS
personally i charge full the first run (overnight) then reboot in the am and drain to around 10% reboot and charge full overnight and reboot in am. then use it like always.
this is just what i have done for years and many will tell you there is no need to train any lithium based batteries... but it works for me so this is how i do it
most will also say that wiping battery stats wont help as they are cleared on a reboot but i do find myself doing it anyway (i have lots of pointless habits i guess)
I run galilio evo4 2000 mah for more than a year.
I run a capacity test, I got around 1600 mah for both battery after about a year of use. Witch is very good.
I got 2 batteries and a charger for 20 $.
Do the rotation of oem and those galilio to keep them in shape.
