Hi guys. I have tried proboably every rom out there and I most like virtuous sense 2.0.0 It have strange problem of not memorizing some apps settings. Like when listening to podcast and pausing it(in music player), It will forget its position after couple of minutes and then I have to search for where I left off. ... But that aside:
I am looking for ebst recording and photo application. From my experiments, it appears that best app is sense camera app, with expousure and sharpness set to -1.
Any other tips for recording? especially in the dark outside. Maybe different rom or application?
Music player is probably getting dropped from memory. And default for the music player in that case, is to go to the beginning of the track. Of course, not ideal for podcasts. I use the app "Podcast Player", it has an ugly stripped-down (purposely low overhead) interface. But it remembers where you are in the podcast, and the skip buttons are vastly better for navigating in a podcast then a slider.
Its been a while since I've tried any non-Sense ROMs. But my opinion, is that Sense offers the best video and still camera experience.
If you want the BEST out of your phone's camera, use the HTC Amaze Cam, it takes the best photos by far. Check out my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22480298&postcount=63
You need a Sense 3.* ROM to use it though. So for that, i'd highly recommend Virtuous Affinity as it was 100% stable for me. I used it with Supercharger v6 and without a swap file.
Here's a guide on how to set up supercharger too if you want, it gives a useful boost to Sense 2.1 ROMs as well http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21118325&postcount=191
Thanks! I will fiddle with it sometime this week
hmmm. Ive tried to activate supercharger v6 on virtuous 2.0.5 as after Youe guide.
Downloaded update9 rc7 and busybox+scriptmanager.
Everything run as root.
Durning supercharget wizard setup, selected local.prop instead of build.pro (what is this)
Then typed "6" and it loaded and asked me to reboot.
after reboot Ive ran it again to see if it working but Image is defferent than one You posted
minfrees are different but there are other minfrees lines below which also have other numbers. And it says that supercharger is at 25%

That means that you haven't properly supercharged, run the script again and choose the unsupercharger or whatever it's called, you'll see the option to remove it in one of the 30 settings the script offers. Then, go to your sd card and delete the v6 supercharger folder. Then run the script again (following that guide) and choose build.prop instead of local.prop. Otherwise continue running the script in the same way that you did last time. If it says that you are 100% supercharged, then all is well and you are definitely supercharged correctly.
Thanks for support.
Ive installed energized blue 3,5 rom and supercharged worked no problem! Also with swapper from market(I don't mind disabling swap before connecting to pc)
htc amaze camera is really better than standard camera.
And rom with v6+swap is almost as fast as virtuous2.0.0
Tho I wish amaze camera would work on older than 3.0 sense
About the camera tho. I am not sure if HDR mode is working. Pics look the same as normal. Panoramic mode is great tho, macro is very good and overall pics are quite sharp

Yeah i was amazed by that app as well when i installed it (no pun intended haha). I'm glad you got it working well, and yeah it's a bummer that it doesn't work on Sense 2.1 ROMs. Otherwise i'd probably still be using Sense just for that app.
HDR doesn't make a difference because it's not supported by our phone's hardware. This applies to other modes like burst shoot and panorama.
Also, since i helped, could you hit the "thanks" button under one of my posts?
Sure thanks
and panorama totally works

This is a legend port, aiming to be a clean Sense 2.2 release with at least all hardware stuff working. The camera is a tough cookie and for now I can't get it to work. Might find time to continue to work on this in the future, but it will take time if ever.
Native (froyo) app2sd should work for apps which support it. Old school app2sd should work if you have a ext2/3/4 partition.
Default speed is 614/352 (smartass) - use SetCPU or similar app to change this.
Download:
Sengle-0.7.2 (Multiupload)
Sengle-0.7.2 (Desean)
Instructions:
I have flashed this over my old version (Sengle 0.7) and it seems to work fine.
If you have problems which are not in the known issues, you might want to try to do a full wipe (data, cache and ext partition) and install it cleanly.
Note: even if you do not wipe anything the dalvik cache is rebuilt, so the first boot will be very slow - have patience. Additionally, I had one restart of the sense and sound not working on the first boot. It was fixed after the second reboot.
Changes:
- Compcache enabled (should help avoid sense reloading)
- JIT enabled
- Wifi hack cleaned up (no more "error" when disabling wifi)
- RTL fix updated (also fixes Gmail and such now)
- Reboot menu (same one that was optional in 0.7)
- Cleanups by Elelinux for the setup wizard and widgets, as well as the identity of the hero and keypad.
- New install script by Elelinux
Regarding JIT: I have enabled JIT, even though the legend official sense, which this ROM is based on, is not built for sense.
HTC, wakeup! JIT was added in 2.2, and today 2.3 was released....
Anyway let me know if you find any trouble with this.
Known Bugs/Problems:
OpenGL issues
Camera
Wifi hotspot
LWP
Google navigation exits when showing the map, GPS Status exits randomly, Google Sky Map fails to load
Sound with navigation programs (or something like this)
Voice recorder says storage full.
Notification lights problems (I thought I got this one working )
Let me know if you find any further/new major problems (not just another 3rd party which does work)....
Future
For now I have given up on the major problems with this ROM. I will try to find some time to get back to this in the future but I'll be surprised if there is another update any time soon (I have a lot on my plate right now both in hero/android development and in RL).
History
Sengle-0.7 (Multiupload)
Sengle-0.7 (Desean)
Reboot Menu (included in 0.7.2)
RTL Fix (superseded by new fix in 0.7.2)
Compcache enabler (included in 0.7.2)
Thanks
This ROM is based on the MoDaCo r4 release for the legend. It was prepared in collaboration with capychimp and seo, and much of this port is thanks to them . Some cleanups and fixes by Elelinux (also install script ).
Cool dude! Trying it out now!
Oh no.. me second.. anyways will check this out now
Edit:
Flashing took a while but booted just fine.
camera is not working as stated
Wifi connected brilliantly and displayed my network tmobile uk. so looks good
I dont do app2sd so cant comment on that
will try this tommorow and let you guys know
I think Erasmux and Ele should join forces.. you both can do wonders for us poor Hero guys
Keep up the good work and thanks a million !!

I think BT audio is one thing.
What are the big problems with bihariel's froyo sense other than BT audio and camera (which is still broken )?
But do note, this is a completely different build. bihariel's froyo sense is based on the Aria port and this is a legend port....
bihariel's froyo is laggy as hell, and froze all the time when i tried it out, so i hope your work is much better
cuz im using your froyo and thats awesome ROM so i expect this ROM is also gut
How does it work? Is it smooth? Is there problem with caller recognisation as in bihariel's Sense? What about battery?

Sorry have no idea about any of those. For me its slower than the CM6-based ROMs (like floyo) - but what can you do sense is pretty but slow . Too soon for me to know about battery life.
Let me know if you find any problems (except camera) and I'll see if I can do something about it, although my powers are limited because we don't have sources for sense....
Great news !
I will flash it in the morning and report
Good work !

Greetings,
Flashing now to see how it goes,
I have been after 2.2 with sense for some time now but was never sure,
How ever i know you have done some nice work erasmux,
Will report back soon.
Erasmux thank u very much fir this great work. The ROM is really fast. Keep it up..
Have to say Erasmux
On first impressions this is sweet,
No major issues other than the cam,
All else seems to work grand.
thanks for the great work... no major issues so far..
will take it out later and how it performs...
Thanks for the great work! The ROM is really nice!
So far here's what I can see:
- Camera and Wifi hotspot don't work, as you mentioned.
- LWP don't work. Won't even show a preview.
- Google Navigation exits as soon as the map appears.
- GPS Status app (installed from market) exits randomly but sometimes manages to get a fix and keep running
- Much like in the Aria-based ROM there seems to be a problem with the time setting. My region is in DST and when I set the clock to update from the network it keeps changing from DST and back. It seems there is some "fighting" going on where the networks sets the correct DST time zone and something comes along and changes it back to non-DST.
Other than that everything seems fine.
Sensors, keypad backlight, Wifi, calls, 3G data, market, HTC apps and widgets seem to work very well.
Overall it's pretty stable and fast.
The ROM works great except I found after launching several programs, returning to home will see the HTC white screen then restart of Sense home.
btw, the Linpack score is around 2.56 with default CPU clock setting. Is JIT not enabled in Sense 2.2 ROMs?
Thumbs up Erasmux, thanks for this. Slick

Sense (even 2.2) is not compatible with JIT.
Just flashed. No problems and easy setup. Excellent ROM on first impression. Just the camera problem. Very fast, slick and excellent!
Many thnaks for this!
Hey y'all!
Phone runs damn fast now...2500 with 1.1Ghz /75. Even got as high as 2900 with 1.2ghz BUT... some simple improvements that can be made.
1) Lack of Task Manager that came with the stock 2.2.1 ROM which had auto-end feature. I installed Process Killer app, but maybe one out there that's better? It will kill apps at time intervals, but not prevent from opening again. For example Maps opens up A LOT without me running it (among several others). Eventually, this PK app uses 20% of battery to end these apps.
I tried to install 2.2.1 ROM task manager on CM7 and didn't work. maybe there's another method???
2) I miss the Swipe feature and stock keyboard. Anyway I can transfer these over? I forgot to back them up before CM7.
3) the dialer sucks. No speed dial and doesn't bring up contacts as you type them in the dialer
4) no battery saver mode. i had to download an app. forgot the name.
5) Wasn't connected to 3G at first, but found the answer here and simply is not faster than the stock 2.2.1 ROM. I was easily pulling well over 3Mbps downloads and not uncommon to get 4,5 and even 6mbps on Tmobile 3G. But on CM7 i barely get over 3, if I get there at all. Maybe Tmo throttled back my download speeds? I have been messing with the phone for 2 weeks trying to sort everything out.
Thanks!
1) Android system itself has good memory management, i.e, it automatically closes unwanted apps to free up memory if it really needs. Using task killer apps really do have much effect (at least nothing outright). So there's really no need to have one.
2) you can get swype here : http://beta.swype.com/
3) you can try 'go dialer' or any such dialer apps from market
4) Whats battery saver mode?
5) Have you changed the baseband to your region/provider?
1 & 3 Try the Go apps option,
GoLauncherEX gives a nice launcher very similar to ADW Launcher that comes with CM7 but does add a Running Tab to your app drawer if you wish to close apps down. Although this is not really needed, as mentioned above, Android shuts down apps not needed when needed.
GoDialer/GoContacts as a dialer replacement, themeable, good options, worth a try.
5 Look in the Apps for Defy Baseband and make sure you choose the one best for you. That might help with your 3G problem
Im no expert and still a bit of a novice but switching from Stock to CM7 was one of the best things I did so stick with it and CM7 will shine through
hey guys!
i was trying to figure out if there is any clean, fast rom (gingerbread) for the motorola defy!
i've tried the cm7 2.3.7 but it felt like there was something holding the phone back, plus battery was heating up like crazy.
quad score 2200
tried miui-looks fancy, like quite a few of the options they have like pop up message and the easy customization but not that great for me because theres no app drawer.
quad score 1990
used walter's ms2ginger,like it but not that much. its the fastest of all of these.
so now what i want to know is if theres a rom for the defy that would make me go gaga over my phone all over again!
quad score 1600
not sure if this is the right place for this so apologise my noob-ness
oh and since the defy+ is out, is there a way to get a nandroid of it to install on the older defy???? (since its the same thing except for the 1ghz processor clock speed) :S
Weird, I tried ms2ginger and it's more like a faster defy stock rom with the same random lags.
I haven't tried miui, but cm7 is faster than ms2ginger and (sure) stock rom and almost never lags. If you do not need call recording and you don't care about 720p recording/playback, cm7 is the best of them.
(720p playback in cm7 is not bad, just ms2ginger is better a little)
but the camera app on the ms2 ginger is the best! lol its so much nicer looking and functioning then the cm7! :O
Thanks guys! I actually have 2.3.7 CM7, not 2.3.5

4) I have battery defender app. I shuts off the antenna after 5 min when the screen goes off. It's very similar how T mobile motoblur was on the Defy. They allowed you to set the phone on 3 different performance levels. Now that I have some of the stuff sorted out, the phone will last 2 days no problems (avg/below avg use).
5) There are 3 choices for baseband. They are (not sure of the whole name) XXXX.4, xxxx.9 and 6.0. My phone only works on the xxxx.4 choice. However, one thing i do notice on CM7 is that an 'H' shows up by the bars, whereas 2.2.1 rom just said 3G. This is something that if I had known earlier I would have checked my phone before going to CM7.
Does the APN count for anything?? I did have to enter some values for that.

check your email settings if you set that up. Mine got real hot and battery drained like crazy because it was set to retrieve every 15 minutes and I was in a place with sh*tty reception. Put those 2 together and your battery won't last long. I set my email for every hour. I also don't have any social sites setup on the phone as I don't use them (T, FB). Also try battery defender app.
Hi guys,
I got a Desire for testing, I'm trying to make it very stable with everything working. So I have been testing the following ROMS:
Stock (2.2): Very stable, bad energy management, no voice search, ran out of internal memory fast, you cannot switch 2G/3G easily.
Stock (2.3): Good, but wifi drops (Is there a solution for this?), voice search works.
CM7 (Any version, but I think I haven't tested the new RC2): Very good and fast, but the video app is bad I cannot play 720p MP4 (With the stock one it plays fine) I don't want to pay for a videoplayer when the stock and when a SMS is not delivered it doesn't show the option "Send again" (Yes, in some places where I got the network coverage sucks, so I need that feature), no voice search.
Oxygen: No radio FM (I use that), no send again in the sms and no 720p video player, no voice search. Fast.
Ledroid: I haven't had time to create a partition (In fact I need a faster SDCard), but if you use it, does it have voice search? Can you send again failed SMS? Radio FM? 720p video playback?
Sandvol ICS 0.7: Very fast! Good looking, no FM radio, no playback for 720p videos, didn't check about voice search and send again failed SMS. Had some crashing using the camera. I hope it keeps going to the 1.0 version.
So, will I have to create my own ROM (I wish).
Please help me.
It's easy I just want a 2.3 or ICS rom with FM radio, good video playback 720p, not bloatware, send again failed SMS, etc. Stable...!
http://forum.oxygen.im/viewtopic.php?id=2365
Android 2.3 - check.
FM support - check.
720p plaback - check.
No bloatware - check.
Everything working & stable - check.
You wont find anything better than that.
Use Oxygen r2 hboot if you're S-OFF.

Yes to both questions.
For the longest time I have been using the ROM in my signature as my daily driver. I liked the ring lockscreen etc but:
1. 2.3 with sense 2.1 / 3.0 or hybrids of the two
Battery life, it's abysmal compared to stock gb or froyo, even leedroid was waaaaaay better. Speed is good, but there is always some lag, if you count a steamboat or two after unlocking the screen then using it the lag is minimal. Battery life though, fantastic if you don't use your phone. If you use it, epecially for calls (you know, as a phone!) you can drain it fast
2. Sense 3.5 ROMs
All the eye candy is there. Truth be told, the sense 3.5 email app, and music are pretty sweet. The new amaze camera is awesome. There is much less lag with the lock screen too. Overall though, be prepared for lags, lockups, sense restarts, reboots et al. All of the runny ROMs, and I do mean all of them run fast and smooth for a few days, then lag immensly.
3. Gingerbread "stock / old" sense 1.9 ROMs
There are a few good ones, andler, droidzone, and coolsense are a few updated ones
Battery life is great on all of them, you can actually use your phone! Storage space is a non event (I run 130 apps) on all.
After much testing, because I got tired of constanly flashing new kernels in the search for the best speed / battery life compromise with sense 2.1 ROMs, I prefer coolsense 3.0 by coolexe. This ROM is a themed "old sense (1.9)", or basically stock gingerbread with a few extras, like quick settings on the notification menu. I have been on this for 2 weeks now, no slow downs, reboots, minimal lag (same as stock gb), and has all the features you asked about. I may have to change my sig soon, I may have found my new daily driver.

And if i create a partition and use app2sd so I have more room, what would happen if I remove the sd card or connect the phone to the pc to transfer files?
Thanks!

Leedroid is good, but unless your comfortable tweaking on your own coolsense is more upto date.
You will need a a partioned SD card for most newer ROMs, use gparted. It is available as a bootable cd if you do not use a Linux distro.
Also, google alpha rev for mtd partions, then use fastboot manager or something similiar to quickly switch between hboots when testing ROMs.

I installed the rom you suggested, very good, vainilla stock GB 2.3, very light. No problem with SMS, FM Radio or Video playback, the only problem was that it seems to have the wifi problem. Under 88db it wouldn't detect wifi signal
I'm looking how to solve that to go back to that one!
Thanks
I am very happy with miui xj. Worth a try. Also, with fancy widgets you get the sense like weather and clock...
Any recommendations for ics roms I'm leaning towards mimicry since I want as much speed and stability as possible. I've been on glite for along time so performance and stability is a huge plus!
I prefer non sense roms with overclocking ability. being pretty it's a plus but not a must. I def want the most stable camera and I don't mind having to tweak out a bit. Any advice?

I think you're on the right track with Mimicry. In my experience it's been very stable, smooth, an fast. It's meets all your criteria. By default it's overclocked to 1.2 GHz, and has the option to install V6 Supercharger. I'd highly recommend it. As for pretty, Sonny Sekhon makes some incredible ISC/JB themes. Also, all ICS ROMs for the Vision have issues with 3rd party camera apps due to missing drivers. In my experience the stock camera works just fine.
I don't mind the stock camera, since frankly I have other camera apps I've never even run lol. does the stock camera do panoramic pics?

Yeah, I thought I'd miss all my camera applications, but at this moment in my life the stock camera completely suffices. I haven't used the panorama option, but... yes, it's appears (just checked it) to be working... I've been using Mimicry for several months now and I'm still excited about it. I was a long time ILWT (CM7) user and I never thought an ICS ROM could compare, but Mimicry truly does. I actually flashed back to GB a couple weeks ago - just to see - and I missed blk_jack's ROM immediately. If you take a look at some of the other "best ICS ROM" threads I think you'll see that a huge population are loving Mimicry. Good luck!
killj0y, I had the same dillema, but was using stock rom.
Friend of mine that already was testing other roms told me to experiment with Andromadus, and especially with Mimicry http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714187
With latest radio it's just very good concerning the 'out of the box' installation experience.
The only problems were with camera, but I never experienced any issues because I use default campera app, and the only program that was giving weird effects was Google Goggles.
The lack of drivers for camera is annoying when recording video, 480p only.
Recently I started to experiment with Andromadis JellyBean development builds, they they got some minor issues. There still happen some camera issues, but video recording is ok @ 720p. In general it was a bit sluggish, but managed to fix that installing DataSwap - it really helps.
Just wait till Mimicry gonna switch to JellyBean and it's gonna by awesome.

Awesome I have had the latest radio for a while now since the ota so no issues there. I thought i was having the wifi dropout issue when i first booted but might have been a false alarm. Either way i have the files needed in my dropbox just in case. I hadn't thought about google goggles damn that kinda sucks but i can live with that. I was kinda bummed about the 720p but i rarely record video, but when I do i like it being the best quality i can manage since it will suck that much less lol.:good:

Hi there,
I have just upgraded from a Wildfire S to a Nexus4. I would like to use the Wildfire S a secondary phone (for which right now I use a very old/crappy/non-android phone).
So far my experience with the Wildfire S hasn't been stellar (standard HTC rom): the lack of memory made it very hard to really enjoy it: every time an update popped up it was a struggle to get it to install properly.
So I would like to take the opportunity to clear up the phone and install a more ... "comfortable" rom.
I don't have huge requirements: some simple games for the kids to be entertained, some music, check the news ...
My absolute preference is to have a rom that uses very little memory in order to forget about all the headaches I had in the past ~2 years.
So, I started looking for the roms available. My oh my: talking about choice! It's great, of course, but choosing is not straightforward.
Looking here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068879) I see that there is such thing as a "Slim rom" which sound quite attractive from where I am sitting.
So the question is: SlimCM10 o "standard" CM10 (like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136011).
Roms like "ParanoidAndroi" don't seem too attractive to me, not on a screen as tiny as that of the wildfire S.
I would like someone's opinion on this. Perhaps I should look at totally different roms ...
Suggestions?
Thanks!
You have quite a few options.
If you want your kids to play games on, I wouldn't recommend even the SlimCM10 because all it does is removes certain unneeded alps in system. I'm on the normal CM10 and it does lag at times.
CM7 is a good alternative, since it is gingerbread, everything works.
If you want to do a little more work, you can check out the Customized stock ROMs by Crossfire77 and me. They're compatible with most tweaks including the famous v6 Supercharger. After you install this ROM you can install v6 Supercharger, Adrenaline Engine, Pimp my ROM tweaks and even an app called Seeder.
These tweaks and apps will work on all afore mentioned ROMs and will reduce lag by a lot.
Since just CM7 is a bit laggy, installing Seeder would do the trick and you can play games just fine.
You can also look at other sense based ROMs like Wildchild.
Good luck!

Hi Lt Win,
thanks for your input: they make sense to me.
Perhaps I'll give first a shot to CM10.* (I see you're on Jelly King, which is CM 10.0, if I understood correctly): do you have memory issues? (I am worried that newer versions of Android are more demanding, in terms of memory, than older ones).
The reason being that I would prefer keeping ICS/JB type of interface on all my phones, which would make it easier to maintain.
The Nexus 4 is on 4.2, I plan to update the HTC Sensation to the latest CM once I familiarize myself with the whole procedure using the Wildfire S as a guinea pig.
Lag is also not a huge issue: as it is today is acceptable (of course, less is better) as I don't plan on using it intensely.
I don't plan to install particularly taxing games: my kids are young so memory game, coloring stuff ... that's plenty.
I'll research more on what are the issues with JB on the Wildfire S and then I'll make the final decision. I can always go back to CM7 if I don't like how it "feels". In which case, I'll go for your custom rom.
Best regards.
Edit: love the jetpack avatar by the way. I like that game!

Memory issues, well not so much. I get ~100mb free space on install, and a few apps would probably fill it up. I recommend partitioning your SD Card, flashing a script called INT2EXT so whatever size your partition is, your internal memory will be that much. Battery life is a bit of a problem, I must say. There's more on Mobile Data than WiFi, so you would want to use WiFi more.
Again, seeder, adrenaline engine and v6 Supercharger can nearly kill the lag. Of course, games will be a bit laggy. Heavy games, that is.
The issues on JB are:
*Panorama is weird.
*Camcorder has very low frame rate.
*No USB Tethering. (Using phone as a modem)
ICS issues:
*No camcorder - Wrong colour output.
* Panorama is weird / doesn't work. (I don't remember that well)
*No USB tethering.
CM7 issues:
*Slightly worse camera than stock.
*No USB Tethering.
This should help out on choosing.
P.S. I love Jetpack Joyride, its too much fun!

Man, you're a well of info. Thanks! (yes, I clicked the button too)
I plan on using almost exclusively WiFi. In fact, I may get rid of the data altogether (it's the secondary phone after all).
I won't need to use the camera much: mostly still photos for "work" related stuff, so I don't plan to use panorama or camcorder.
Also, no USB tethering.
Which clears me for both ICS and JB.
What I really need the phone for is:
- sync contact (this is actually quite crucial, even though it seems like a trivial feature)
- occasional mail check
- still photos in well lit environments
- listen to podcasts
- occasional gaming
- "portable" storage device
If I can ask one last question about the battery consumption: are you saying that it is especially bad on ICS/JB roms? As in, noticeably worse than with stock gingerbread?
If so, is this also a problem with custom gingerbread roms?
I get a fairly decent battery life with the stock rom, so this was not one of my primary concerns.
Thanks again.

The battery life is a problem with data on, so if you're using wifi you're good. However, battery life on standby is much better than stock but if you use data with screen on a lot, you'll get quite a good amount of battery drain.
Other than that, it's just fine. And I would recommend the following custom ROMs:
Gingerbread - Wildchild (based on stock) , CM7.2
ICS - CM9 Alpha 9.
JB - Jelly King, Speed Droid. Although I love jelly king. Ext partition is recommended on ICS and JB. Use INT2EXT.

I just installed Jelly King 2.0 .... So far it looks quite good. Time will tell.
Thanks again for your help and suggestions.
