This is a legend port, aiming to be a clean Sense 2.2 release with at least all hardware stuff working. The camera is a tough cookie and for now I can't get it to work. Might find time to continue to work on this in the future, but it will take time if ever.
Native (froyo) app2sd should work for apps which support it. Old school app2sd should work if you have a ext2/3/4 partition.
Default speed is 614/352 (smartass) - use SetCPU or similar app to change this.
Download:
Sengle-0.7.2 (Multiupload)
Sengle-0.7.2 (Desean)
Instructions:
I have flashed this over my old version (Sengle 0.7) and it seems to work fine.
If you have problems which are not in the known issues, you might want to try to do a full wipe (data, cache and ext partition) and install it cleanly.
Note: even if you do not wipe anything the dalvik cache is rebuilt, so the first boot will be very slow - have patience. Additionally, I had one restart of the sense and sound not working on the first boot. It was fixed after the second reboot.
Changes:
- Compcache enabled (should help avoid sense reloading)
- JIT enabled
- Wifi hack cleaned up (no more "error" when disabling wifi)
- RTL fix updated (also fixes Gmail and such now)
- Reboot menu (same one that was optional in 0.7)
- Cleanups by Elelinux for the setup wizard and widgets, as well as the identity of the hero and keypad.
- New install script by Elelinux
Regarding JIT: I have enabled JIT, even though the legend official sense, which this ROM is based on, is not built for sense.
HTC, wakeup! JIT was added in 2.2, and today 2.3 was released....
Anyway let me know if you find any trouble with this.
Known Bugs/Problems:
OpenGL issues
Camera
Wifi hotspot
LWP
Google navigation exits when showing the map, GPS Status exits randomly, Google Sky Map fails to load
Sound with navigation programs (or something like this)
Voice recorder says storage full.
Notification lights problems (I thought I got this one working )
Let me know if you find any further/new major problems (not just another 3rd party which does work)....
Future
For now I have given up on the major problems with this ROM. I will try to find some time to get back to this in the future but I'll be surprised if there is another update any time soon (I have a lot on my plate right now both in hero/android development and in RL).
History
Sengle-0.7 (Multiupload)
Sengle-0.7 (Desean)
Reboot Menu (included in 0.7.2)
RTL Fix (superseded by new fix in 0.7.2)
Compcache enabler (included in 0.7.2)
Thanks
This ROM is based on the MoDaCo r4 release for the legend. It was prepared in collaboration with capychimp and seo, and much of this port is thanks to them . Some cleanups and fixes by Elelinux (also install script ).
Cool dude! Trying it out now!
Oh no.. me second.. anyways will check this out now
Edit:
Flashing took a while but booted just fine.
camera is not working as stated
Wifi connected brilliantly and displayed my network tmobile uk. so looks good
I dont do app2sd so cant comment on that
will try this tommorow and let you guys know
I think Erasmux and Ele should join forces.. you both can do wonders for us poor Hero guys
Keep up the good work and thanks a million !!

I think BT audio is one thing.
What are the big problems with bihariel's froyo sense other than BT audio and camera (which is still broken )?
But do note, this is a completely different build. bihariel's froyo sense is based on the Aria port and this is a legend port....
bihariel's froyo is laggy as hell, and froze all the time when i tried it out, so i hope your work is much better
cuz im using your froyo and thats awesome ROM so i expect this ROM is also gut
How does it work? Is it smooth? Is there problem with caller recognisation as in bihariel's Sense? What about battery?

Sorry have no idea about any of those. For me its slower than the CM6-based ROMs (like floyo) - but what can you do sense is pretty but slow . Too soon for me to know about battery life.
Let me know if you find any problems (except camera) and I'll see if I can do something about it, although my powers are limited because we don't have sources for sense....
Great news !
I will flash it in the morning and report
Good work !

Greetings,
Flashing now to see how it goes,
I have been after 2.2 with sense for some time now but was never sure,
How ever i know you have done some nice work erasmux,
Will report back soon.
Erasmux thank u very much fir this great work. The ROM is really fast. Keep it up..
Have to say Erasmux
On first impressions this is sweet,
No major issues other than the cam,
All else seems to work grand.
thanks for the great work... no major issues so far..
will take it out later and how it performs...
Thanks for the great work! The ROM is really nice!
So far here's what I can see:
- Camera and Wifi hotspot don't work, as you mentioned.
- LWP don't work. Won't even show a preview.
- Google Navigation exits as soon as the map appears.
- GPS Status app (installed from market) exits randomly but sometimes manages to get a fix and keep running
- Much like in the Aria-based ROM there seems to be a problem with the time setting. My region is in DST and when I set the clock to update from the network it keeps changing from DST and back. It seems there is some "fighting" going on where the networks sets the correct DST time zone and something comes along and changes it back to non-DST.
Other than that everything seems fine.
Sensors, keypad backlight, Wifi, calls, 3G data, market, HTC apps and widgets seem to work very well.
Overall it's pretty stable and fast.
The ROM works great except I found after launching several programs, returning to home will see the HTC white screen then restart of Sense home.
btw, the Linpack score is around 2.56 with default CPU clock setting. Is JIT not enabled in Sense 2.2 ROMs?
Thumbs up Erasmux, thanks for this. Slick

All,
First things first:
This is a VERY EARLY ALPHA. It's been ported over from the latest CDMA Sprint Hero, and it's being referred to as a FINAL test build.
NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE INSTALLING
DO NOT FLASH THIS ROM EXPECTING IT TO BE COMPLETE. I'M WELL AWARE THAT IT ISN'T.
Who should flash this ROM?
- Anyone willing to help find all of the bugs/not working HW.
- Any developers looking to help
Definitely Working/Current Features:
- Calls in and out
- EXTREMELY FAST
- Data Connection
- Network Location
- Automatic Brightness
- All apps in market
- Very interesting 2.1 Rosie layout (I don't know if the guys over on the CDMA forums themed this or not...)
- All 2.1 Goodies expected (Friendstream etc)
Known Bugs right now:
- WIFI DEFINITELY DOES NOT WORK
- Graphical glitch when sending contact types
GPS & Bluetooth are untested
I am currently working on the fixes for this ROM. If you're a developer and find the fixes, please contact me...

Sounds great, really looking forward to trying it. Think I'm gonna wait to read some feedback from the more adventurous guys before I flash it though
I can't access http://villainrom.co.uk/, get a server not found error. Could someone mirror it?
EDIT: Hm, it works fine from my phone...
any idea how to ifx the wifi? i can try it (maybe you can copy > past the fix behnaam send you?

Clearly this is a port from cdma hero, I am on v4b2 right now and was not reflecting if it was a port for cdma or gsm, witch one is it ? Am I going to suffer any slowdowns in internet connection using the villain rom series... ? since the gsm radios utilize hsdpa they are suposed to give you quite a speed improvement for the internet connection right ?

This is a GSM ROM. It's been ported FROM a CDMA ROM, which is why there will be some hardware bugs at first, but this is definitely meant for GSM Heros.

Am I being over optimistic, but as this is a Hero build (albeit a CDMA one) does this mean we can use the kernal? Do we final have a kernal that won't kill our batteries?

A bit optimistic I wouldn't try it, as it won't work, and it can apparently cause damage by frying your radio.
So don't try it, unless someone reliable can confirm why it would be different, and safe...

This is my port of Cyanogen's latest Eclair build, v5.07-stable.
It is basically mssmison's 5.07-test3 build updated, I used the same process he did to port this one.
Included Apps:
-Connectbot
-Astro
-RogueTools
-LinPack
-HomeSwitcher
Notes:
-No major problems found so far (besides Eclair-specific problems like the Camera not working).
-Speed is comparable to other Eclair builds, maybe even a bit zippier at times.
-It should be fully compatible with any themes/mods made for Cyanogenmod v5.07-stable. (Although my attempt at flashing this theme sent my phone into an "android.power wakeup" loop, so be cautious!)
--Darkstar theme isn't working either, thx for trying @thebulletfromhell!
-It is set to 120DPI by default, so if running anything other than 320x240, you'll have to use RogueTools to adjust it. I am currently running it at 320x240x120dpi and haven't experienced many problems, except the top and bottom of the Dialer are cutoff, button's still reachable though. (If someone wants to help me fix this, please do, I just don't know where to start)
-Wifi support for the Kaiser is built in, should work out of the box!
-Starting with v1.2, Userinit.conf is added to the root of your SD, by default it has 16MB of Compcache, but this can be adjusted by editing the file.
Download! [Last updated on 5/29/10]
Changelog:
v1.3
-Removed userinit.conf, now everything is run directly from /system/bin/userinit.sh
-32MB Compcache by default
-Removed overclocking from the get-go. You can set it manually via RogueTools.
-Userinit.sh now renice's com.android.phone to try and improve ringing delay.
v1.2.1
-Removed redundant wlan.ko
-Replaced wlan.ko with kallt_kaffe's
-Reverted a change to userinit.sh that was causing awful performance
v1.2
-Removed Dropbox, Speedtest, Twicca, Shazam, 3Banana Notes, and LiveWallpapers
-Added Camera back (Fixes FC when trying to crop a wallpaper)
-Fixed Facebook Sync
-Userinit.conf is added to the root of SD card on first boot. This allows you to control Compcache, swap, and many other settings.

The updated version has wifi working for Kaiser, and some compcache tweaks done to /system/bin/userinit.conf. The first version I think I disabled compcache entirely, and it really showed once you got the build fully loaded.
any screens? how to install themes on Kaiser? Little guide please...
just downloaded going to give it a try
all live wallpapers dont work and show force close (exclude polar clock)
but its cool and fast (default it set at 450MHz and i set it to 500MHz)
Bench at 500MHz: MFLOPS:2.141
Times: 2.53s
Norm Res: 3.36
Precision: 2.224...
Maybe you add-in many of not neccessary app..
and one very good thing.. i have i think 320x428 and 120DPi in RogueTools. and its less blurry than thats sets in myn
Congrats for good rom.
exist CM with sense 2.1 on kaiser?
Compared to super eclair it has a few advantages:
-language dutch is included and fully working
-more options: look at call settings.
-market is fully working (for now), but no paid apps (super eclair market broke after using a time, not all apps can be found).
But less free ram.
Not really worth upgrading for me (I have 2 kaisers).
i've installed this build on my kaiser and it works great.
tested the wifi, the market, both work great. bluetooth turns on but i haven't had the chance to send or receive any files or to connect it to my wireless headsets.
did not test the data yet.
installed helix launcher and i think it moves a little bit faster than the regular home screen.
thank for the upload

Yeah I just noticed the Live Wallpapers crash, didn't try this out before. Not sure if it's possible to fix it, I don't remember them working on any other Eclair builds.
Also, I noticed that /system is running low on space, so I will definitely try to trim some fat by removing pre-installed apps.

Not that I know of. But there is a QVGA Android phone with Sense coming out sometime this summer, and I'm sure someone will attempt to port it.
From the vogue thread...
Great build, I'm running it right now, and it thus far seems to be fast and stable! (bumped up the o/c to 500)
Two pieces of feedback...
If you can get facebook sync to work with the most current facebook app (the one with the "inbox" button rather than the "take photo" button it would be amazing. As of now, the only way to get facebook sync to work is to run the Moto Droid apk, which is the previous version.)
Anyway to get full market from the getgo? I have marketenabler working, but it isn't always consistent.
That being said, amazing build. Good work.

I'll look into including whatever alternate APK in the next build.
Also I found that taking out the Camera app causes Gallery to FC when trying to crop a wallpaper, so I'll fix that as well.
I just got a text message from the 24th of this months with super ecalir lite, I don't know if this version hzs those issues too?

The darkstar theme hasn't been released for 5.0.7 stable. The most current release is for test5. This may be why it's not working for you
I tried mssmison's test 3 out, and it was problematic. A lot of stuff would end up resetting the phone, back to the start up animation. Haven't tried this one yet, but my experience with Eclairs have been bad so far.
Wish there was a way to run Android on both NAND and SD cards. That way, I can test them out on the SD card, without destroying my NAND installation.
Running this port since yesterday and I must say I'm really impressed. Fast, responsive and also it seems not to drain battery as fast as other builds.
Any chance of getting Corporate Calendar in the next version (currently Exchange sync works only for Mail and Contacts in this build).
Version 1.2 posted! Changelog in the OP.
I tried adding the modded Market, but it kept FC'ing whenever an app would go to install. Looking at the thread, it seems like a known issue, without a fix that I could find

Suggestions for 1.3
- Remove /system/etc/wifi/wlan.ko (not needed)
- Replace wlan.ko /system/lib/modules/wlan.ko with the attached version (I believe it works better for Polaris users)
I was about to suggest increasing the wlan scan interval but I noticed that you hade allready done that.
I've had problems with builds that have sensors.msm7k.so all by itself so I added the sapphire sensors before I installed v1.1 as a precaution but I'll try without doing that once I reinstall with v1.2 and I'll let you know how it goes.

Don't mix up AOSP with CyanogenMod..
And how is this different from the CM 6 alphas?
Linpack is 5012.
BenchmarkPI is 7200ms.
691Mhz.
Also, it counts as a cheat, since the 16 ROMs I've tested didn't have JIT enabled.
Pro-tip: Don't wait 20minutes. Restart the phone 3 times.
In order for Jit to work the java files need to be processed and this takes time. Plus if you have lots of music the album art will be processed too... etc.etc.
ADB works but you need latest driver and might have to reinstall the driver if in windows.

Why 20min? Also, I still can connect it to PC. Device is offline via ADB.

Nope, it's done on the start of an app.
CyanogenMod is the base... try it...

Is this rom up to par with the speed of current 2.1 roms?

It is faster, because it has JIT enabled, by default.
2.1 ROMs with JIT are similar (but slightly inferior) to this ROM.

It's FAST!
Autobrightness doesn't work
Testing now
SD not working yet
Presenting FroydVillain 1.1.1, TeamVillain's Froyo ROM (Android 2.2)
FroydVillain 1.1.1 INFO & Release Notes:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
REMEMBER the ROM will only be at peak performance after it's been rebooted a couple of times, and when you've opened your apps once prior.
adb install won't work on this ROM, until you tick "Unknown Sources" in the Menu > Settings > Applications menu.
This appears to be a new security feature. Similarly, apps pushed to /data/app won't work either. You might not notice the issue, but the app does not get any of its permissions it should have, meaning that it is probably useless, and might FC constantly or whatever. So remember to tick the Unknown Sources box
The stock camera doesn't work properly - it takes photos OK, but it doesn't do live preview. The app "Camera Magic", which is free on the market, works fine, so we recommend that.
RELEASE NOTES:
Fixed in this release:
Multi-touch restored to improved touchscreen driver
Applied workaround for akmd running at 100% cpu utilisation (Thanks alankila)
Fixed GMail app resolution
VillainROM Updater now works
Compcache enable/disable script fixed (compcache on by default)
HTC Sense ringtones added
Issues outstanding:
Camera
Notification and chargeLEDs
Autobrightness (only dims when screen is turned off)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Coming from FroydVillain 1.1.0:
Do a wipe of data and dalvik at least.
Coming from any other ROM (Including FroydVillain 1.0.0):
Do a Full wipe, preferably including EXT.
DO NOT POST SUPPORT REQUESTS WITHOUT DOING THIS.
Enjoy, and be sure to leave any feedback
Thank you,
The VillainROM team.
dam gonna have to try this!
Sounds awesome. Just out of curiosity, is the fix for the camera live preview planned at all?
Mind making a quick list of the differences over 2.1? and is flash 10.1 planned for the near future? i remember getting it to work (pretty slow mind) with a .apk someone made.
Thanks anyway, great job guys!
How does the apps on ext work? Do widgets and apps stored on ext show on home screen? Been using the test alpha as this problem occurred in full alpha.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Nice. I've been waiting for a fully working froyo port. The camera issue was the last big problem for me. Will probably try this out tomorrow and report back (it's late here in the uk)

Thought that with the official 2.1 out and most ROMs being based on that, I'd thought that that I would stop playing around with new roms for a while...
Well that's gone for a toss now - thanks Villain team - downloading now...
Jep TeamVillain did it again, they make my heart beat faster! Thanks again guys!

Anyone have a mirror that isn't being battered?
great stuff, worked fine off first boot, coupel more, ran even better ..
one thing ...
the phone, when a call comes in, no slider for pick up/ignore ??
you have to use the phone hard-button to pick up ... how do you ignore call ? aside from turning volume down?
aside from that, camera magic is amazing, much better than stock camera anyways, even supports burst photos... amazing!! ...
but, if an update is made, a slider on the calls coming in woudl be sweet!
love this ROM so far, very snappy, and much better than the ezhero ROM's i've been using ... although, ezhero is 2nd best .. so no offence xenoside ...
i'll defn' donate when incoming calls have slider
worth downloading this ROM ... really well done, thanks villainrom.
Are my eyes deceiving me? Holy crow 2.2 for my Hero? DOWNLOADING HELLO!
just about to install after wiping everything fingers crossed!!!
Hello guys! I need your help and advise.
I need to use my kaiser to work. That's uhh.. receiving calls, making calls, sms, WiFi @ night to sync new contacts to my Google account... you know, small tasks.
I'm using as of yet CM7 with 2.3.32 (#63 IIRC) Data on SD Partition. Now.. although stable (no reboots, no crashes... seems OK) Its painfully slow.
If someone calls me, i have to wait about 7 ringtones before i know who's calling me. So.. i need your advise! Should i use a Donut ? perhaps a 2.6.25 ?
Please be honest, state your opinion and its basis
UPDATE 20110304:
I'm using as of yet:
VaniljEclair RLS11 - A fast & stable CM 5.0.8 for Vogue/Kaiser/Polaris [2010-08-19]
Battery rocks (i'm using a 2.8Ah).
Calls work pefectly.
SMS's work perfectly
Some apps apear to have a .... strange issue. They simply... don't open. But thats temporary. And a reboot fixes.
WiFi works (using latest from liquid with module update).
Quite happy
UPDATE 20110306:
Still no issues. One thing is granted, when i turn the WiFi on and let it sync... bogs down considerably. OC via atools to 490.
Will try the other option now, incubus26c's versions.
UPDATE 20110309:
Using incubus26c's with kernel .25 downloaded and edited through atools.
Been sufering from random phone problems. Simply shutdown. Cannot enable AirPlane mode. Have to reboot.
BTW, anyone has any other sugestions about roms ??
UPDATE 20110310:
Noted that my hardware keyb is sometimes eating letters... notably.. space.
Will check settings to see if disabling something helps.
Try using builds like those by incubus26c's or VaniljEclair. I've had both and enjoyed them greatly, going back to WM for the only reasons of better camera (autofocus never worked on droid for Kaiser) and ad-hoc WiFi support.
And... a few tips.
1. Use phone prioritizer (probably in VanilJEclair). This cuts delay between calling and receiving a call by two times.
2. Odexed firmware is faster, than deodexed. Yeah, no themes anymore, but you want a working device, not a box for bells and whistles, aintcha?
3. 2.6.25 is still up to date. Sometimes you'll need a patch to make wifi work, but that is a reasonable price for better speed.
What about donut? No, it is not faster then any 2.x droids.

1st Post updated.
And again.
Still no issues. One thing is granted, when i turn the WiFi on and let it sync... bogs down considerably. OC via atools to 490.
1. get RogueTools from Market to overclock the device without atools
2. a question from my side: are Gingerbones worth it?
I actually used and tweaked a Gingerbones. Was quite good, not as fast of course, but then again, more eye candy.
I'm not getting any instability, just plain ... slow during sync. But this as been a standard with any version i've tested.
wifi sync lagging seems to be quite common for all low-end droids, both native and cooked. As long as it happens mostly with encrypted networks, i would suppose the reason is some sort of cryptographic calculations MSM72xx delegates to CPU.
Though, since all unsecured networks I encountered were very slow (256k or so), there's a chance the lag nests in higher bandwidth, causing data to be downloaded a bit too fast to be processed - sometimes HSDPA connection makes the gadget lag, too.

There is strange polling behavior with hardware keyboard on 2.6.25
Though I love stability in 2.6.25 kernel, the Eating of Space button is quiet frustrating when I am texting my boss :| (which I often do) and I press Enter to send right away (just as I am chatting).

So... if the massive slow(ness?? is this a word??) is coming for a bogged CPU on SSL encode/decode, we could... say... use OsMonitor to check?
Which process should be giving lots of CPU usage ?? Android System ?

So... perhaps moving to 2.6.32 should provide me with it a better keyboard polling, at a stability price ??
P.S.
Anyone else would like to suggest another rom ?? BTW... i'm going to try and strip a gingerbones (by Aceyome if i remember his nick right) to gain extra stability.
I think yes. Though I have used .32 kernel for so less time than .25 so as I need the Mass storage functionality, which works perfect with dual mount on .25 kernel. Try Fat Free Froyo by thoughtlesskyle, if you really want a vanilla build

How is the Froyo 2.2 x86 ?

Still not to be used as Primary OS. Alot of things don't work and force close on my D420. Though x86 build works pitch perfect with an EEEPC. It's blazing fast and stripped down to just 80MB and has Hardware OpenGL ES support for intel 915,945,965 chipsets. 1280x800 isnt supported fully as of yet (You can run HDPI one). Market doesnt work, but a proprietary App downloader is provided. Also, keyboard works perfect and mouse emulation is nice. Ethernet + Wifi support depends if kernel supports.
Why doesn't the market work??
(market! y u no work?)

It crashes randomly with the build, thats why it was removed. But there is another handy app installer which comes with every x86 build
