NexusMod 4 for T989 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hey, I'm M0D1441, from over in the Skyrocket forums, I'm the developer of StockMod and NexusMod and i was wondering if anyone here would be interested in me creating a NexusMod for the T989. Just a simple thought, if i ever get to it
i had T-Mobile and a T989 for a while and i really liked the phone, and some users from the tmo forums seem to have interest in Nexusmod 4 so i'm willing to do some work for it. Any feedback? Thanks.

OMG YES!
I have several different UCLA3 roms on my tmo sgs2, they run like a dream but unfortunately with flashing the ucla3 based roms I cant get the tmo modem to stick using odin, so I'm religated to the 2.3.5 roms T.T

I wanted to flash a skyrocket rom to see test the so.called "2d lag bug", I noticed almost automatically that it was a bit more fluid. Unfortunately the modem wouldn't stick. Having this rom with skyrocket source, T-Mobile kernel and modem would be amazing to try out!
Edit: I flashed nexusmod from the skyrocket forum

yeah, that nexusmod looks good!
when you say 'aosp launcher', it looks like (from the screenshots) it's the gb one, not ics, correct?

yes please!

Hell yeah

Yes! Or at least get the modem working. I had bars, but no data.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

Hell yeah, I tried on a few occasions to flash this rom but it would never boot past the kernel screen, regardless of SR or Herc kernel. Always just got kicked back to recovery (strange?).

I saw it last night and would love it on the the t989. Just please do not strip down everything. Touchwiz is pretty nice.....

Yeah.had it running but suffered no bars. Not to mention the reboots with market.
I'm guessing the bars relate to the fact mine is unlocked and running ATT. The reboots, I'm not so sure.
besides those big issues, the ROM was pretty smooth

Its actually going to be based on KL1 2.3.6 if I am correct, I'm rebuilding the ROM from scratch, but exact same futures.
Or is that a bad idea...

Sounds fine, from what ive read people cant seem to shake the ucla3 modem and, correct me if i'm mistaken, but the modems are the only difference on the 2.3.6 roms?

Yes, please. I am all for NexusMod 4.

Definitely. Made the jump from a G2 to T989, and have been looking for a good AOSPalike.

I'm going to build a rom to try and get the hang of it and I was wondering what's a good base rom is to start off? I know cyanogen mod is great to start but I know it has a lot of issues and I'm not sure if I'd be able to iron them out.

Definitely want to see more ics options! Maybe with nova launcher baked in since the others have apex or trebuchet launchers already out. If you can Get wifi calling goin since dark side evo 2 is the only ics rom with it in it right now that would be the shizznit. And try ASOP theme like the gnexus. Good luck and may the force be with you

[Q] How come the ICS we have isn't fully optimized like Galaxy Nexus?

No access to settings from notification bar and different toggles..
Is the only reason HD2's ICS rom is better is because it's running CM9, is that what makes all the difference? Because it'd be convenient if we had the features this rom had

Simple because our phones are not supposed to have ICS yet. The first ICS leak came FOR TMOBILE about 2 weeks ago until that time we were using AT&T so we now have a compatible version of ICS. The developers are great they made a OS from another phone work on ours, now that they have the correct structure for T-Mobile give them some time they have lives too ya know, Darkside has a good stable rom and constantly improving it. ICS is about 93% fully functional now on our phones, and remember roms cut much of the bloat out that we dont need, etc.otherwise buy a Nexus

Most stable ROM and easiest to use for women?

I'm currently a SGS3 owner on and the T-mobile Hercules belong to my wife. Her current stock ROM is GB and its been very slow. She wants to do the upgrade to ICS or JB.
I've rooted the phone, installed MIUI with the latest JB last night. Everything is fine and dandy last night. This afternoon, she told me the ROM has been crashing a lot, it would frequently have a black screen and take forever for the screen to come back up. Also, the bluetooth audio out function for music no longer work in her car. It was fine before in stock T-mobile GB rom. Another issue is her office has a very weak reception coverage, so she often use the Wifi-calling feature and it was great. The new MIUI JB rom no longer has that feature.
I'm planning to flash a new ROM, something that is stable, with the feature above already implemented and wont crash or cause major problem. Anything that you guys can recommend me to? Please link the ROM too if you can.
Thanks in advance! :good:
I would advice you to wait until the CyanogenMod 10 comes out for S3.
I'm using the nightly builds for S2 and they're working fine so far... But I'm not aware if there are any for S3

Put a touchwiz based ICS ROM on her phone. Aosp/aokp/cm ROMs don't have WiFi calling. JB ROMs aren't stable enough for use as a DD yet.

I'm assuming you didnt search through the post that much but the person probably has a question similiar to yours answered. Anyways there is a expected release of Jelly Bean to our T989 probably very late this year or early next year. A rumor went around that we would go straight to 4.1.2 instead of 4.1 but who knows. Anyways if your waiting for the official update you should probably start looking for a custom rom with wifi calling because U.S. carriers are last to apply updates and EU carriers havent even completely started releasing JB to their GS2 devices. Good news is also that they might revamp from TouchWiz to something perhaps a little different like Nature UX or w/e its called when it does release.

That's because THERE ISN'T ONE. You have to wait until we get an official Touchwiz Jelly Bean build. Till then the best you can do is use an Ice Cream Sammich Touchwiz ROM.
Here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/darkside-evo/files/
This is TDJs Darkside Evolution ICS Touchwiz ROM. IMO still the best ICS Touchwiz ROM we have. V8 is based on 4.0.3 and v0 is based on 4.0.4 but he never really finished it before he left. I recommend v8. Works perfectly fine, stable like a rock and keeps the stock TW look while keeping all his awesome tweaks and custom, overclockable kernel.
Also before I forget, make sure you're on CWM 5.0.2.7 or any version of TWRP before you flash the ROM. Any other recovery will be broken by his scripts.

and if you like the look of AOSP you should try the no Cynowiz ROM. Touchwiz with AOSP themeing. Great ROM as well.
Im on the sprint variant which is why im here in the sprint forums lol but the synergy works for all builds. I read a lot into it before choosing to flash it. But it runs very smooth and is extremely stable and has pretty good battery life. Just making sure most of these roms suggested are for the sprint variant

There are so many good roms out. Test out another one and confirm its either your phone or the kernel. Also, go visit the good folks at Team Kernelizer thread and they have tweaks for KT747. I did experience some glitches when configurations were not properly tested.
