I am currently on Calkulin's rom and wanted to give blazer rom a try. The only thing holding me back is that i have a ton of programs and settings that I really don't feel like restoring and redoing. Is there a way to switch roms and then restore backed up programs or something? I tried doing a search, but I couldn't find an answer. I am imagining there may be considering how many people try different roms so freely.

Ymmv, but what I do is a nand bu in recovery,.then.install new rom, once installed and booted,.return.to.recovery, then restore, advance restore, restore only data. Its pretty safe doing this on like OS's like gb to.gb, or ics to ics, not ics to cm9, or gb to aokp.

Just use the batch function in Titanium Backup. The pro key was probably the best $7 I've spent on the market, it automates the restore.
I like to use My Backup. It has a free thirty day trial version and a pro version for like five bucks. I couldn't survive without it!
I use Titanium Backup, you can backup all of your apps and settings, but you'll have to manually install the apps unless you have the pro version.
Titanium Backup will almost always work

I would definitely go this persons route it is the one I always use and it works allot better than titanium backup in my opinion. When I use titanium backup 50% of the time half my apps get corrupted.
Thanks for the tips. Seems I have 2 options. I may try the free route then try tb I needed.

I'm looking for the best possible solution to backup my apps and apps settings (Handcent Gmail, etc) so when I flash a new rom I'm able to open up the app thats already configured relativity head ache free.
Is this something apps 2 sd would do?
MYBACKUPPRO, TITANIUM BACKUP, ASTRO FILE MANAGER, etc etc - Just search the market for "backup" and google the diff apps to see the features of each.

dunno about mybackup pro but titanium backup donate has gotten me out of some stupid situations before. It does the apps / data / system data all seperate and lets you restore each or all at once...going to and from CM6 and keeping two roms updated to play around with has never been easier.
Titanium backup. Back up app+data.
If you are going to a new rom and not the same rom it is best to install the apps fresh and not install the apps using Titanium back up. The apps that are saved are saved with the first roms settings and sometimes just the littelest diffrence could cause all sorts of issues leading to FC's or something else.

Didn't know Ti had this issue but MyBackup Pro doesn't. I've flashed different roms to test (always gone back to Fresh because it's just my preferred) and MBPro has always restored apps+data with no issues. The newest version finally doesn't list SU, which always gave me errors back then until I figured not to restore it. Anyways, Ti and MBPro are both great options.

What are you guys using to back up your phone when you flash a new rom?
Is there an easy way to reload all the old apps when you flash a new rom? or do you have to reload everything manually.
I just put the starburst rom on my phone and really liking it. I assume I will want a flash a later version at some point and am wondering if there is an easier way to the apps back and such after flashing.

TitaniumBackup. When backing up, I would just backup the apps, and not the system data. I have StarBurst too, and it works great.
FYI if you have the free version, when you restore apps you have to manually hit install, done, install, done. If you buy Pro, then I believe you won't need to.

Exactly what Apoc said. But just buy it. Its WAY worth it
Be careful using Titanium backup to restore apps. It can cause big time problems when restoring backed up apps from different ROM bases.
AppBrain is a good app that will keep track of all the apps you have installed and you can use it as a reference to reinstall them from the Market. This is what I do, then I use Titanium Backup to restore the data to those apps.
I seem to be having issues with my phone where nobody can hear me and I can't hear them. It doesn't seem to be the roms fault as it seems to happen on various roms. So I will unroot and go back to stock, however....
1. How do I make sure I can keep all my SMS backup backed up as well a titanium backups. I'm guessing they are all on the phones memory right?
Besides making sure I have all my stuff backed up any other suggestions before going to sprint?
Mybackup Pro will backup just about everything. SMS, contacts, setting, call log, ect. Give it a try. Make sure you set the backup location to your sdcard.

Okay that will work but how about apps and app settings
Are you on ICS or Gingerbread? Best way in my experience is to do a nandroid backup then factory data reset (will not delete anything on the sd card) Then when you want to restore go to recovery. Backups and restore, advanced restore, choose the one you want. They all have the date created as the file name. Then choose it and choose restore data. Best way IMO. Titanium backup is a mess if ya ask me! I have lost so many apps using that.

Because if you were having any issues with your data corrupting your apps then it will come back when restoring. If I am not mistaken that method restores your apps and the data. Which if you check any android forum its not recommended to restore data but just apps. Now I have only done the advance restore once or twice but I believe it does restore everything included data...
MyBackup Root and TB along with GoSMS although MyBackup Root does handle SMS and MMS I believe are definitely the route you want to take... IMHO

Restoring from Clockwork mod is the best way trust me I have never had any issues doing it this way. Titanium backup is where I have had all the issues with losing certain apps and data because they become corrupt.
My backup pro backs up apps too. Yes Titanium Backup sucks. I use App Backup and Restore.

In addition to all the suggestions, I would also backup micro sd card to computer as final step just in case.
Since everyone already dealt with backing up the phone...
I wrote this for someone not long ago. I hated all the folders that got created and left by old apps. I've always felt that the stuff left behind might cause problems when flashing between roms and it's always good to format everything and start over once in a while.

With all the ROM switching I do. Is it possible to backup all your settings and apps, flash your ROM, and then restore your apps? Something other than Titanium.

I guess to be honest, even though it isnt much, i'm looking for something free that will restore all my apps at once and not one by one manually. Don't get me wrong Titanium works great. Tried GO backup but it won't do a batch save over 200 mb.

The free version is fully functional. I bought the pro version as it will allow backing up from one phone and restoring on a different phone. I use this almost as much as I use root explorer lol.
I've had Titanium backup on my phone for a while now. The number of options/functions is a bit mind boggling on this app. So far I just used it for a basic complete backup and to freeze/unfreeze/uninstall/restore apps.
I don't have any backups scheduled yet. I also anticipate we'll probably get a JB 4.2 update this summer some time. Is there a guide anywhere on "best practices' for TB? I've spent dozens and dozens of hours tweaking this phone just right with all sorts of apps. My goal is after an update to have the least work/headache possible. I know many of the programs I'm using like Llama, WidgetLocker, Nova Launcher have their own settings backup I'll need to use to save to the SD card.
My phone is rooted but I plan to always stay on the stock ROM. I assume I will need to re-root then install TB and do a restore. Is this a simple one click operation, or even with TB am I probably going to run into problems and have to do a lot of re-config work? I don't even know if on an OS update TB can cause more problems than it solves so it's best to just start from scratch.

With Titanium Backup you can make a flashable .zip to restore your apps and data. I use this all the time and its quicker than restoring thru TiBu its self. I only zip apps since data can sometimes bork things up but its a handy feature

Not a nandroid.
Nandroid is your complete system backed up by a recovery
The flashable zip will just install your apps.
Look at it like GApps for CM10 or any other ROM.
Except its not Google Apps its your personal apps zip file.
And you will need a custom recovery.
