Hello i just bought HTC Droid Incredibles 2 and unlock it with unlock code from ebay, but when i try to update it nothing happened. On Software update -> Status the source is Verizon Wireless. Now my Android version is 2.2.1, Baseband version 20.23W.30.0830U_0.99.01.0225_2.
What is the best root for my Android, because i don't like this Verizon software ?
I'm using the phone in Bulgaria.
Thank you in advance
Search for alpharevx you got lucky man, it being 2.2, its fairly easy just need to hook it to a PC. I recommend liquid 3.2 or condemned v1.4 rom if you don't like the sense UI, both work well.

What bootloader does your new droid have?
In case you don't know how to find out, power down device, then once off hold down volume down and press and hold power button also to load into the bootloader.

Is it true ?
When I used it I was on froyo and it worked, but they may have changed it. If you do have to upgrade to a gingerbread whatever you do, don't take an official over the air update cause that will put you on 2.4 or 2.34 gingerbread whatever it is, and it wl upgrade your boot loader to .98, which is def not available for this method to gain s off. I can't remember what gingerbread version if any came with the .97 bootloader., but you need to find the ruu for it and use that to upgrade so you can keep the .97 boot loader. It should be under the development section, it may say leak or something like that, its been long since I seen it you will just have to search
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
Hboot. 97 came with phones that shipped gingerbread 2.3.3. The alpharev method works for that hboot. Phones with 2.3.4 are shipped with hboot .98 which means the boot has to be downgraded in order to gain root.

Hi, I have an Desire HD from telus, It was rooted, s-off, then hboot-off to get fastboot commands, I flashed CWM 3.0 then CM7 and finally reinstalled the proper radio via fast boot.
However I seem to have no sound at all, not in the earpiece during calls or the back speaker.
Did I kill the phone?

When you say you reinstalled the proper radio via fastboot... could you explain precisely what you mean? Usually HTC Androids of different hardware bands can still all use the same radio firmware.
When I downgraded it changed the radio so I put the telus one back on.

How did you locate the Telus radio to put it back on? To my knowledge there is no such radio easily available on the forums. Are you saying you made a backup of the radio and restored it later? Please clarify exactly how you did this and be as specific as possible. I have a gut feeling this is how you broke it.

I would also try flashing the TELUS ruu as recommended above.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
And let us know if that fixes it =)
If I am not mistaken, the route:
Downgrade -> Radio S-OFF -> Telus RUU
should lead you to almost back where you started from but now with S-OFF. If everything is functional at that point, perhaps you could permroot from there and put in the custom recovery. Then try flashing custom ROMs and hopefully the sound won't go away.
Ya, but still would be nice to know the root of the problem.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I wonder if there is a specific sound component in this phone that is just different hardware from the Euro/Asian versions, and the older firmwares (maybe in radio, maybe in HBOOT?) don't have a driver for it.
On the non-HD Desire there was an issue where if you try to downgrade to an Eclair firmware meant for an AMOLED phone and you have SLCD, you end up with no display. I am reminded of that. The quickest solutions were to upgrade back using the RUU with the right hardware support.
Thankfully it's easier to find your way around a no-sound phone than a no-screen phone!
Ya that does sound easier then the original one.

okay so i've been given a used g2/desire z but the problem is i cannot figure out if it's a g2 or a desire z because no where on the phone it says t mobile but the back plate has a g2 carved on it (the back could have been replaced). Now i looked at some pics of the G2 it clearly says t-mobile on top It's running froyo 2.2 with the build number of 0.90.xxx.x. This stopped me from rooting the phone since i didn't have a way of finding out what this damned thing is. Secondly i tried checking for updates it keeps searching for updates and nothing happens and thirdly if it's a g2 it must be unlocked cause i'm using an other carriers sim. There is no HTC Sense on the phone no shining suns no flip clock or is it just that the version is so old that sense wasn't invented yet ?plus if i went ahead with the desire z method of rooting if what i have is a g2 would i brick my phone ?
I had the same question they are the same the DZ is the international version of the G2 it has a little more memory I believe. And all roms are safe to flash on either device. Some roms like sense need to have the DZ hboot. Simple to install and it gives you a little more ram which is needed for certain roms
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA
the only real difference is the stock rom and the hboot/spl
boot on your phone and see what hboot you have (hold volume down while powering on) and you will know if its considered a g2 or dz
there isnt more ram in the dz just a larger partition for the system which is needed to flash certain roms (sense) it truley wont matter which one you have now and you will only need to change the hboot from g2 to dz if you want these roms. there would be no reason to change from dz hboot to g2.

so i checked my bootloader and the hboot version is 0.78.1000 now as Pnut pointed me to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26990743&postcount=2 where the say this 0.76.2000>G2 so am i right in assuming that what i have is the G2 and it is safe to go ahead with this method of rooting http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMobile_G2:_Rooting ?
it would be safe even if you had the dz. if you want to understand the phones a bit more look @ the xda wiki on the vision, just go to wiki tab on the top of the screen, the htc phones on the right find the g2/dz aka vision. you ll understand more, same guide for rooting as cyanogens but more of an explanation
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
so i read the wiki as you said demkantor and i came to the hboot part so here's what it is
1.1. engineering hboot
Download the appropriate HBOOT for your phone:
T-Mobile G2: vision.hboot-0.76.2000.zip (md5sum 7669AE12DC2FAA10AE555A164980EFD0)
HTC Desire Z: vision.hboot-0.84.2000.zip (md5sum 2CE1BDD5E4C1119CCFCECB938710D742)
Note that the md5sums are for the actual hboot img contained within the zip file, not the for the zip file itself. Note also that the dz, g2, and dhd each use their own version of the engineering boot, as the phones are partitioned differently. (If you have previously installed the wrong HBOOT for your phone, you may need to reflash everything after partition 18 .
According to this it's my choice on which hboot version i want to flash ?
well if you like sense roms id go dz as you have the larger system partition otherwise go with g2, its not a big deal so long as you flash a rom afterwards. this will not cause a brick but if you change your emmc partition the current rom will not be able to boot after you are rooted. thats ok you want to flash a new rom anyhow.

I have GOLDCARD and i have always follow the instructions!!! precisely!!!!!
When i try downgrade via cmd and adb, after checking those things, it says no # but $..and thats wrong!!!
visionary or gingerbreak dont work with this version, i think...

Try downloading one of the RUUs from here. Just boot your phone to the bootloader screen and plug it in then run the correct one for your phone. If you can boot into a ROM you can also do that, then plug in your phone, and run the RUU. It will give you all the instructions. BTW codename for HTC Desire HD/Inspire 4G is ACE. So get one of those RUUs:

Also, I've looked over the guide for rooting the phone and getting S-OFF. (I have an EVO 3D) It's so different from my phone that I am not sure what bootloader version this phone has.

HTC Kingdom is the codename for HTC Evo Design 4G or HTC Hero S
(HTC Bravo is the codename for HTC Desire)
so root methods in this forum won't be of much help.
i'm not sure what your aim is:
- rooted phone? if you have superuser app it's likely that you're already rooted. try running an app that requires superuser permissions e.g. titanium backup
- custom rom? then you will need custom recovery, i couldn't find the xda forum for evo design 4g, so try google for a guide on how to install one for that phone.

Ahh, my friend wasn't sure which phone he got. I couldn't find a design forum here either. Also, yeah, he said it was a partial root (not sure what that means) and as for the custom recovery, he doesn't have one, which you usually get one when you root the phone (CWM Revolutionary usually). Thanks for the info, I'll check out google when I get home.
I think by partial root here might mean that the phone is not s-off yet

Could he mean temporary root? (root is lost after reboot)
Because there you have a superuser app but no recovery...
You could try using apps that require root and check if root is gone...
