[WIKI] for the Xperia Play - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
well wiki and sticky are up - so lets gather more information
If u got some ideas of missing topics - just add them or post it here...
thanks for helping Piratetris, XHale931
OLD:
got my Xperiay Play since Friday.
Since I searched and found a lot of information since that day, I wondered why we dont have a propper complilation... like the ones im used to have from other devices.
Since this thread is not maintained anymore and its hard to updated it all by one person alone I thought about using the wiki wich is totaly underrated here at XDA anyway.
So I added a picture and started creating the WIKI page for our beloved device - wich didn't exist yet
Since im quite new here and I propably don't know all the things and my time is very limited atm - any help is welcome - feel free to add your favourite content and correct all the mistakes and typing mistakes I did
e.g. add the hardware specs,...
Please keep the structure clean and don't go into detail too much so it doesn't get blown...
@Mod: would be nice if this got pinned since many people really don't know and use the wiki at xda atm

editing as we speak :]

Stuck it
Good idea, keep it growing
Best, DK

Great Job.

Fixed phone models and colors. Fixed a crap ton of spelling errors so it actually looks decent. Fixed false information.

Good job. Keep it going.

Excellent job on the wiki!
Would like to see maybe a table of ROM versions and which phones they are compatible with.

do u seach users, helping u with that?

If you need any help with Wiki clean ups, I have a fair knowledge of making them look good. I was and still am an admin for the EQ2Emulator wiki (;

Amazing!
Keep up the good work!

Thanks.

Nice. I've added and will add to it.

nice !! thanks

I'm going to contribute to the page a bit

Great job. Let's make it grow

EDIT: Sigh. Never mind.
All this talking I was doing about the kernel update, it was just because of a very simple thing I did not understand until today:
*** If your ROM update includes a new boot.img file, then UPDATE THE DAMN boot.img IN YOUR PHONE AGAIN, using flashtool or whatever tool you used before.
My apologies for being that slow.

xperia play is really good but some of glu mobile games is not compatible and the screen is LCD but its great

So if I unlock the bootloader, install a ROM and then I install the stock ROM and re-lock the bootloader Sony still will know that my xPLay was once unlocked?¿

Official Method
If you unlock your bootloader using the official SE method, even if you relock it, they will always know.

I heard if you unlock it with the S1 tool method you could relock it again without any problems.

Complete Guide To Hacking, Tweaks & Mods For PDAs

Hi
I have been on this forum for awhile since I got my first PDA (XDA II) about 2 years ago but only a few months ago did I register when I got tired of waiting for other people to ask questions for the answers that I wanted.
Now I have an XDA Orbit, and all of these new terms are popping up... such as USPL, CID, etc.
Because I took a long break from the forums I need to catch up with everything, and thats very difficult since its hard to make out what people are talking about and referring to when talking on the forums. I can't really comprehend what people are saying because they are talking about things that I dont know (lol). I have looked through the wiki and it doesnt explain everything, and the acronyms section doesnt contain much.
Although the WiKi is a fantastic place where people can share their ideas as a community, I was hoping that someone could maybe upload a guide such as a text file explaining everything, including terms, what certain things are used for, etc.
One thing that confuses me is that someone managed to get a leaked WM5 rom that 02 use to unbrick devices. From what I've heard dumped ROMs are exactly the same except they cannot bypass the bootloader.. could someone explain why this is? What would be the point of the dumped ROM if it cannot bypass the bootloader - surely you wouldn't be able to flash the ROM?
This is just one of many questions I have - but by having everything explained I hope to work out answers for myself using the knowledge gained from learning all these technical terms.
Thanks for your time.
Well, as much as I know...
CID = Country ID and is used to 'lock' the device to a certain country/vendor id so that any other ROM downloaded to the device would render it useless, sometimes this screws up the bootloader and 'bricks' the device... much like a sim-lock with other carriers, but more serious.
USPL = A program used to circumvent the CID lock by providing a temporary SuperCID, so that other ROMs can be flashed without the aforementioned bricking. It has to be flashed to the device before any 'exterior' ROM download.
These terms have all probably come about after the release of B&B4 ROM by tom coden, which I must say is brill!
Hope this helps,
Pete
Thanks for the info, CID locks I assume are being put on newer PDAs since the XDA II or XDA IIs didnt have these measures?
I would guess so, although I haven't added cooked ROMs to any other device as yet...
Sorry to scrutinise every answer (lol) but does 'cooked' mean that the extended ROM has been edited? or is that baked ROM?
Not being the expert on this I assume a cooked ROM to be one that has been put together, more likely meaning one that is not from the original vendor.
E.g. HTC cooked a ROM in the first place, then O2 edited it and cooked their own etc...
Anyone? Am I right?
well from how i have seen it used over the last few days since i joined, i was assuming "cooked" meant hand made or modified by someone other than the device vendor/manufacturer/Microsoft
Yeah pretty much!
Come on everyone to organize wiki
I agree that it is very hard to get into this... I have been studying for hours these late days...
I just read the 2 necessary steps for begginers:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=FAQ
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueAngel_For_Beginners
I strongly recommend them!
back to the wiki... I think that we should be writting more there and try to be more organized and cross-linked.
Some kind of tree structure would help a lot.
Besides some topics (like the one for BA above) should be generalized to give basic ideas for all devices.
I am quite new to wikis but I feel that we should exploit/collaborate more this resource.
Regards.
Thanks for those links, they are very helpful! I managed to get a read of a few useful links aswell - they were in the Himalaya section...
Also, does anyone know how I can get rid of the notification that displays your balance after making/receiving a call?
e.g. Receive a call, talk or whatever, close the call, then the message: 'Your Balance Is £283.39' (lol just an example im not really that rich hehe) comes up. I was thinking I would have to tweak the registry to remove that..it must autodial the number that displays balance automatically after making a call.
Thanks

Just RC33's ?

Hi all,
I will say now that i am a total noob and for the life of me can't code, BUT i do love this site and all the work that is done and i really admire it all,the way i see it is that if it aint on the xda developers website then it aint worth it i have now managed to root my UK G1 and install custom boot screens, I have noticed however that there don't seem to be any RC9 themes yet, am i missing them or are there just none at this stage?
Kind regards.
Doobs x
there is a script that should be able to convert the theme of your choice to any build of your choice(RC9 included) but it will only move the images, if you want the hex edits the dev did then you will need to move them yourself(unless i missed that update on the script) hit the search button and find it
Thanks for the up! The Vekktor them is No.1 for me so far Now if anyone falls upon this post after asking the same question without really opening your eyes like me this will be the right post to look in:-

Thanks.

Cool! Hey I had a spare few minutes at work so I updated and re-organized some things. Go through and check my re-wordings etc to make sure I'm not spreading lies!
I'm not technically geeky enough to help out with development so I figured this is the least I can do. If we keep up with this, it can be very useful. I know the devs are so busy tinkering with things that typing up documentation can be a chore.
Thanks for updating the wiki. I to am not geeky enough
Good idea to start one on XDA. If you need more stuff like FAQs and links for the XDA wiki page, there's the Android on HTC wiki here which has some of that kind of stuff. If you'd like, I'll try to help keep the XDA one maintained with current info whenever I update the one on Android on HTC
The more help the better. I did put a link to your site too
I agree, I know that other wiki was out there...but I think it's good to have it here at XDA.
The more hands on this, the more up to date it will be.
I wanted to chip in, but I don't want to speak for every TP2 owner out there, so I had this morsel of info:
My TP2 (a Tilt2, actually) does NOT need to be plugged in prior to booting Haret to gain charging capability. XDAndroid is able to use the charger no matter what. There's just no orange light.
I was able to verify that in Spare Parts. Not sure if it's JUST the Tilt2, or if it's every TP2 out there.
loving the wiki...thanks and keep up the great work
I added The Front Buttons Keymap layout to the Wiki juts in case people Would like to know
I just want to say thanks to everyone for helping with this. I think this has turned out really well its simple, straight forward and still very informative. Keep up the good work.
also Ive been adding peoples names as they contribute. If Ive added you and you wish to be removed please let me know.
Ive added the CDMA installation instructions to the wiki. If any one sees that i've screwed them up let me know and I'll correct it or feel free to correct it yourself. I do not have a cdma version of the TP2 so this is based on my quick research on the matter

hrdb.tk - the hero custom rom database

Hey guys. you may remember my thread with a list of most custom roms for the hero. well, i had some free time the last few days and got bored so i made this homepage
www.hrdb.tk
It's a improved version of the thread. i also added a board, so you can discuss about the stuff and tell me about new stuff i don't now and that should be added to the lists.
i'm not sure if you like / need such a page but i had no idea what to do with my free time
i hope you like my idea.
(there are some roms missing like vanillaeclair, maybe some of you guys have this rom on your pcs and can send me this. just write me a pm. thank you)
Wow it looks really cool ^^,
nice work
Good work
OK wait a moment, I'm gonna upload all those rom's in my server.
Nice idea, but it would also have been nice if you'd asked if it's ok to use my mirror for some roms.
great, registering now,,thanks

i'm sorry about that. i wrote you a pm.
if any developer don't want his rom listed on my homepage write me a pm and i will remove it.
#push i noticed many people don't know about my rom overview so i thougt this maybe still helpfull.
it would be great if you guys write your experience in the comments of the roms. this will help other users to find the best rom
thanks, really useful so bookmarked (and used it today when looking for an aosp eclair )

Please don't kill me but ...

i know this don't sound professional and to be honest a litttle annoying but
i wanted to try this mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32385441
the BB10 lockscreen but i don't understand it's instructions
How to :
1) Apply patch(diff) with resources.
2) Compile.
3) Done
...? huh ? i don't get it ...any help ?
I think the patch method is for more experienced users. I don't understand it either. It seems like it might not matter though. As long as you are running a ROM with the T Mobile theme engine, it's going to be available through the Play Store soon. Just a heads up, rather than starting a new thread, wait a couple of days to see if the requests for more information in the original thread turn anything up. Someone might well be writing up a how-to guide, but that kind of thing takes time to do right. We just need to be respectful of the fact that the people who are able to provide that kind of information are doing so as a hobby. Good work takes time, so let a little time pass.
Edit: Seems like there's already a how-to link posted.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
The patch is for people that compile their own roms from source.
good day.
there's tutorials on both subjects.
i would think most don't have the determination to get there.
