with s-off i was running cm 7.1 on my G2 then decided to put a orig rom so I installed a pc10.img on sdcard and let it go.
after 3 or so OTA updates I now have android 2.3.4
kernel 2.6.35.10 g96de068 [email protected] 18-2 #1
build number 2.16.531.5 cl 159515 release -keys
When I try to boot into recovery mode i get the red triangle with exclamation
If i the hit vol up and power I get Android system recovery <3>
options are reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cashe partition
E: can't open/cache/recovery/command
How can I get clockwork recovery back working?
everything is how it should be... you are back to stock = stock recovery
what does your bootloader show? (s-off and hboot number)
You are also not rooted now. Why would you do this?
If you want a stock(ish) ROM, there are versions in the Development subforum that are essentially stock ROMs, but pre-rooted and maybe a few other minor optimizations (such as deodexed and zip aligned). These are safe to flash.
Unless your intent is to return to stock (such as for warranty purposes), don't ever flash an official ROM on a rooted Android device. At a minimum, you lose root and go back to stock recovery, or the flash won't work. And its also possible you will get stuck in a bootloop.

I am not sure exactly where to start... i saw something about VISIONary removal. Not sure if I have that ( I did see the word vision in the boot screen..Is this it?) and if I do, how do I remove. I don't want to brick it. A quick list of things in the order I need would be very helpful at this point. My previous post shows what I have now....
thanks
try this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
...but because you have already s-off it should work if you follow 'Gaining Temp Root' and 'Temp-Rooting to Backup' sections (after that you should have perm root again).
good luck
visionary is (tries to be) a quick fix to root your device, you would have to had downloaded it to have it, if you never downloaded it dont, if you have remove it. as for the "vision" on your hboot, i got the same! i guess we are both using an htc vision!
OK all is working again! thanks guys ...

Which hardwarerevision does your desire have? You find this out, when you boot into hboot (start phone with pressed volume down and power button at the same time) and read the number in the first line behind the "pvt".
ship s-on
PVT4
hboot 0.93.0001
microp - 051d
touch panel - synt 0101

Tried flashing a different recovery image via clockworkmod and it failed at getting root, complaining of a possible newer firmware revision, which isn't the case because I rooted it a day ago, and superuser permissions app is in the appdrawer.

Clockworkmod does not work with pvt4 desires. You have to flash amonra recovery. Download it here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20471345/SUroot/Tools/Android/Recovery/recovery-RA_2.0.1.img
Run unrevoked again like before, but now integrate amonra recovery before:
File>Custom Recovery>choose downloaded amonra-img.
After this is finished, try to flash the rom you want again.
No warranty for any damage.

Hm... i hope, you can also boot into recovery... another idea is to flash recovery with this method:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/15/how-to-flash-a-new-recovery-image-if-you-are-already-rooted/
Last idea, if you used windows, you could try linux:

This method works for somebody in cyanogenmod forum:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/7766-flash-recovery-image-from-pc-via-usb/
If these things does not work, i am finished with my knowlegde. Maybe another one has an idea.

hi,
i got the same issue at beginning.
i did unrevoked 3.21 with 2518 cmw, i made i nanbck and was ready to s-off
it s only when s-OFFed that a flash amonRA 201 (i did it with fastboot)
so hehe is the link (before starting the process look at your app manager if an app called Zysploit is in - if so uninstall that app) then run unrevoked linked

Correct. Missed that bit...!
If I could somehow unroot it and return it to stock, then I could re-root and flash Amon-Ra instead of clockworkmod, which I am assuming would achieve S-OFF too?
Only thing is it's an SLCD Desire (I think, going by the HBOOT) and so I don't want to slcd-brick because I don't have a gold card or anything to restore it.
Or perhaps AlphaRev could help me solve all of my problems?
I really don't know at this juncture
Create goldcard with linux:
http://www.nazriawang.com/2010/04/how-to-create-goldcard-with-ubuntu.html
Then follow this guide:
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/307683/howto-unroot-your-htc-desire/
Now you are back to stock with s-on and you can run unrevoked with custom recovery (amonra) again. Now, to get s-off you need to use alpharev:
http://alpharev.nl
Nice video tutorial (step four):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
No warranty for any damage.
Can I skip the first two steps and just go straight to alpharev? Then I can install amon-ra and then use that.
According to this tutorial you could skip the first two steps.
But i do not know it with 100 percent.
So i recommend to ask the alpharev guys in irc. They will help you.
Hi, running wildfire (buzz), froyo 2.2.1 hboot x....0002.
I have tried following the big messy sticky guide in general forum. I think I have AlphaRev and CWM installed. The HBOOT shows 6.01.0002, S-OFF and I get CMW when I go to recovery. But when I try to test if I have root when I boot into htc sense the test app says no. No superuser or root. Am I missing something? Every single guide I have found here says alpharevx or revoked should give root..
The guide says to RUU from 2.2.1 to 2.1. Is this necessary when I want to install a custom rom?
Any and all help much appreciated.
Unrevoked will root the phone along with installing custom recovery by a nand exploit.
But alpharevx neither roots the phone nor installs custom recovery. It turns off the nand security to make rooting (+ installing custom recovery) easier. So if you made s-off with alpharevx, then you need to root and install custom recovery on your own (which are very easy)..
And you dont need to downgrade with an RUU. Just go with this link..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15226717&postcount=68 .
Also check the complete wildfire index thread from dev section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318 .
Edit: oh.. didn't get you clearly. Looks like you have custom recovery installed. Anyway, you can check the above link for rooting. And to install custom roms, you just need cwm recovery installed. Downgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.1 (using RUU) is not necessary in any case. And to root your stock rom just use superone click root method or gingerbreak.apk or you can also install Su binary (= rooting) from cwm recovery. And you dont need to root a custom Rom because custom roms will be already rooted. Another thing you need to remember is some roms need cwm version 2.x while others need cwm version 3.x or above. You need to shift between recoveries according to that need . On how to do that, check the index thread.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Flash Superuser Binary in Clockworkmod. There's absolutely no need to use any RUU / Unrevoked if you have got Clockworkmod Installed.
Download SU Binary here:
http://bit.ly/su2361ef
Flash, and check for root again. This will give you a rooted Stock ROM.
Alternatively, if you just want to change ROMs , you dont need to be "rooted". Just a Custom Recovery like Clockworkmod will do. So, if that's your ultimate goal, just flash the new ROM. Again, dont touch RUUs/Unrevoked.
Thank you, both for clearing that up. I must say the sticky post is way way over complicated and dead wrong on the process. Since it's a sticky it needs to get cleaned up by someone who knows about it.
It's not a sticky actually. (I assume you are referring to this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035)
I posted my views there but everyone seems happy with that, so whatever suits the individual I guess.
I have posted an overview of the process here (This is a sticky thread, so I kinda hope you are not referring to this one ):

Hi, I have the same problem as micnolmad.
I'm running wildfire:
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.01.1002
I used AlphaRev to get S-OFF, and change from HBOOT 1.01.0002.
I thought it was meant to convert HBOOT to 1.01.0001, but for some reason it's now 6.01.1002. Not sure if this is important? At least the phone's now S-OFF, which should enable rooting?
However, booting into HTC sense, rom manager syays I do not have root!
I have clockwork 3.0.0.6 but when I use it to install cyanogen 7.0.3, the installation says successful, and then freezes on start up.
Any ideas?
Did you perform all the wipes in clockwork (Data, cache,Dalvik Cache) before flashing your new rom, these are important and cause problems if not done!!
Also read this thread, the posts above mention flashing su binary to get root.

Hi, I wiped Data, cache, Dalvik Cache, and have superuser and CWM v4.0.14 installed. On flashing cyanogen mod 7 ROM it installs successfully, but freezes on bootup?
????????
Hi there,
A year ago or so i got a desire, rooted it with unrevoked (amazing app, thanks to the developers), flashed clockworkmod 2.0.5.X (can't remember) and leedroid's 2.5.0 (after playing around with some others). However, a few months ago it started freezing without reason. Supposedly, a reformat of the sd card would fix that. Therefore, I backed up, installed latest Clockworkmod (5.0.2, with rom manager RM) and used RM to format the sd resulting in an error. When I booted in recovery I realized I already have S-ON and clockworkmod 2.0.5 (altough RM keep saying me i have 5.0.2). After that I used unrevoked 3.32 in an attempt to fix all that mess. However, the only thing I got was to have an unrooted desire!!!
My actual config is:
Bravo PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.80.0000
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.17.05.08
Mar 29 2010, 21:34:33
I have tried using unrevoked again but nothing. Alphrev to raise the hboot version but my phone is actually unrooted. I don't know what to do, any help please!?!
Thanks in advance and apologies for the long speech
Do you have a custom ROM? then you have root. I don't think you quite grasp the concept of what "root" means.
1) You only need to run unrevoked on the stock 2.2 Froyo ROM if you would like to have that rooted.
2) ROM Manager sucks arse harder than a jet engine on full power. Do not use it, do everything manually through recovery
3) You are rooted, if your phone is giving you issues just do a full wipe and re-flash the ROM.
Full wipe:
/mounts & storage
> format boot
> format data
> format cache
> format system
> format sd-ext (if available)
If you would like to flash a different recovery, it is best to do it through Fastboot. For that, you need to be S-OFF. You have 2 options here.
1) Use the Alpharev live CD to S-OFF
2) Create a goldcard, use the latest WWE RUU to update your phone and it's bootloader, then use revolutionary
Then flash recovery.
You can find lots of help on my guide... it's not that easy to miss...
Hi bortak, thanks for the quick response!!
I'm really kinda newbie in these things. Yeah, i have a custom rom and yes, I was rooted. However, I do really think I am unrooted because titanium backup (through superuser app that comes with leedroid's rom) says at startup that I'm not rooted. Is there any other way to know for sure?
As you suggest, I thought on alpharev to s-off an then flash an updated recovery+rom. But I can't if unrooted (I don't know if that matters but my hboot is 0.80).
Is the goldcard+WWE RUU+revolutionary safe in my case?
Thanks a lot!

bortak I've read in your guide (amazing, thanks in the name of humankind ) and found that revolutionary only supports hboots 0.93.0001 and 1.02.0001 but mine is 0.80.0000.
Visionary is useful in case of not having a recovery, but I have clockworkmod 2.0.5. Is there any way to root my desire again so I can use alpharev to get s-off?
With s-off I could install an updated CWM so I can format the sd or install an stock RUU to get the phone to service center, am I right?
Thanks!!!

One thing, by 'the official Gingerbread update for Desire' you mean an WWE RUU, right?? As my phone has Clockworkmod but S-ON and is unrooted. Good sir, is your brain lacking the function of processing data captured by his eyeballs into useful things? Yes? Well that would explain why you had not noticed that the man is already S-OFF.
What you need to do is go to WWW.alpharev.nl , and download the bravo_stock PB99IMG and rename it to PB99IMG.zip. once you've got that, put it on the root of your memory card (as in not any folders), poweroff and boot into the BOOTLOADER (not fastboot), wait for it to check for files, then when it asks you whether you'd like to update select yes.
You now have a fully S-OFF phone with a patched Alpharev hboot that gives you a lot more.
Now what you need to do is flash recovery, there is a guide for you on my guide, look in the contents post to find it.
After all that you can boot into recovery and flash custom ROMs. Don't forget to backup your current ROM before you flash a new one!! And also before you do flash, do a full wipe from \moubts & storage (format: boot, system, data, cache)
Thanks a lot Bortak, everything is working fine now
Hellloo xda...is there anyone who can gimme a proper step to step guide for unrooting my htc one v.
1. Download the HTC Asia India RUU from Football's collection in the development section
2. While that's downloading, relock your bootloader using the command
Code:
fastboot oem lock
3. Open the RUU. Find the temp folder it created and open ROM.zip from inside it with 7Zip. Extract the recover.img and flash it
Code:
fasboot flash recovery recovery.img
4. Run the RUU and your phone's status will be *** RELOCKED *** and unrooted.
So why do you want to unroot?
Whenever I install custom Rom my sd card and WiFi doesn't work...soo I installed custom Rom without having a nandroid.backup.that's y I was asking.neways thanks a lot for replying.this. is my second one v(replacement)
sent from my sexoo one v
My build number is1.56.720.2 and the ruu is 1.58.707.3.what should i do now??
how do i find the temp folder??..
What is the use of other images???in rom folder..does this stock ruu flashing fixes error?
So what exactly are you trying to do now? Before you said unroot the phone, then you said install custom ROM in a later post.
could you also please find a way to help me? my htc one v freeze forever after i turn it on, please help me
Assuming you're on stock rom, have you try factory reset in bootloader ?
Do you know your software version or cid no. ?
He sent a pm telling me that his phone is rooted and he flashed a zip file that supposedly increases the SD card speed, and apparently causes soft bricks too
I think the only thing to do is re-flash the RUU because I don't think he did a backup in CWM Recovery.
Roxas84, please confirm.
I see.. if he can send the file, sometimes do a revert.zip will help. The easiest is reflash the same rom.zip with wipe cache & system. It should correct the error.
Hey dudes,
I was going to start the same thread but since this is open I want to ask you one question:
If I root the phone, flash cwm, and then I want to return to stock (for warranty purposes) how can I 'uninstall' cwm? Because for unroot I know how to do it, but uninstall custom recovery I never done that even on my older phone - Htc hero.
I'm not new to recoveries, custom roms, flashing and all this kind of stuff, but this is a problem that I don't know how to handle it since I didn't needed to uninstall the custom recovery in the past.
TIA!
L.E: To Answer my own question:
D) ROM is stock, bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and rooted
- download OTA Rootkeeper from Play Store
- run the OTA Rootkeeper and click protect root
- no need to relock bootloader
- boot to bootloader and fastboot flash the stock recovery
- run the OTA update
- Once done, run OTA Rootkeeper and click restore root
Thanks @ckpv5 for these awesome guides
I just summarized this thread in the following tut but with much more detail:
[TUT] Re-flash stock ROM (RUU) after bricking a rooted device (for noobs)
Roxas84, follow this tut if ckpv5's suggestion above doesn't work.
1ceb0x, it will also show how to revert to stock recovery.
