Hi guys
I'm getting an error anytime I try to do something on my orange-branded Desire. It won't wipe data/factory reset and it won't install a rom/zip.
==========
assert failed write raw image("tmp/boot.img"."boot" e:error in /sdcard/rom.zip status 7
==========
hboot v = 0.93.0001
clockworkmod v = 2.5.07
Any ideas guys? Thanks.
Less than a min of searching

This guide is written for Nook colours. Will the USB bootable clockwork recovery work for Desire?

Which hardwarerevision does your desire have? You find this out, when you boot into hboot (start phone with pressed volume down and power button at the same time) and read the number in the first line behind the "pvt".
ship s-on
PVT4
hboot 0.93.0001
microp - 051d
touch panel - synt 0101
radio - 5.10.05.30
Tried flashing a different recovery image via clockworkmod and it failed at getting root, complaining of a possible newer firmware revision, which isn't the case because I rooted it a day ago, and superuser permissions app is in the appdrawer.

Clockworkmod does not work with pvt4 desires. You have to flash amonra recovery. Download it here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20471345/SUroot/Tools/Android/Recovery/recovery-RA_2.0.1.img
Run unrevoked again like before, but now integrate amonra recovery before:
File>Custom Recovery>choose downloaded amonra-img.
After this is finished, try to flash the rom you want again.
No warranty for any damage.

Thanks, but I tried that, it fails at "running root", possibly because it's already (semi?) rooted. Superuser is installed.

Hm... i hope, you can also boot into recovery... another idea is to flash recovery with this method:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/15/how-to-flash-a-new-recovery-image-if-you-are-already-rooted/
Last idea, if you used windows, you could try linux:
http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desire/howtolinux-root-your-desire-using-unrevoked-in-linux/
This method works for somebody in cyanogenmod forum:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/7766-flash-recovery-image-from-pc-via-usb/
If these things does not work, i am finished with my knowlegde. Maybe another one has an idea.

hi,
i got the same issue at beginning.
i did unrevoked 3.21 with 2518 cmw, i made i nanbck and was ready to s-off
it s only when s-OFFed that a flash amonRA 201 (i did it with fastboot)
so hehe is the link (before starting the process look at your app manager if an app called Zysploit is in - if so uninstall that app) then run unrevoked linked
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/reflash_package3.21.exe
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.8-bravo.img
hope this help
Thanks guys, I will try both of your suggestions.
Recommend fastboot method
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery "imagename".img
You can also wipe everything from here. More on fastboot here:

I thought one could use fastboot only if one is s-off.
Would this work?

Correct. Missed that bit...!
If I could somehow unroot it and return it to stock, then I could re-root and flash Amon-Ra instead of clockworkmod, which I am assuming would achieve S-OFF too?
Only thing is it's an SLCD Desire (I think, going by the HBOOT) and so I don't want to slcd-brick because I don't have a gold card or anything to restore it.
Or perhaps AlphaRev could help me solve all of my problems?
I really don't know at this juncture
Create goldcard with linux:
http://www.nazriawang.com/2010/04/how-to-create-goldcard-with-ubuntu.html
Then follow this guide:
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/307683/howto-unroot-your-htc-desire/
Now you are back to stock with s-on and you can run unrevoked with custom recovery (amonra) again. Now, to get s-off you need to use alpharev:
http://alpharev.nl
Nice video tutorial (step four):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
No warranty for any damage.
Can I skip the first two steps and just go straight to alpharev? Then I can install amon-ra and then use that.
According to this tutorial you could skip the first two steps.
But i do not know it with 100 percent.
So i recommend to ask the alpharev guys in irc. They will help you.

Hi
I have a PVT4 Desire and would like to do a back-up before i s-off (which cwm doesn't do hence installing AmonRA) so i can install a custom rom. I've already rooted it so i can't use unrevoked to flash AmonRA as it says the firmware is too new. Also i've tried using terminal emulator to flash the recovery but it says flash_image:not found.
How else can i flash AmonRA?
Here is a useful how to:

use the attached update.zip as a fake flash method, it is amonra recovery 1.7.0.5. just put it on ur sd card.
push vol down+power, go into recovery and when you see the triangle push vol up+power and then you ll select flash update.zip, it will take you to amonra recovery
How many times did you run unrevoked? Sometimes you have to run it a few times before it will work.
have you tried to push it using the android flasher utility...ill find the link for it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638&highlight=android+flasher+utility
there you go mate..dont know if it works for pvt-4 ...so simple to use i used it to get amon ra because i had the same problems with unrevoked
That will not work because he is S-ON
@MatDrOiD i've tried using that method but it says flash_image: not found.
@thanito thanks for the file but when i went in to recovery and did apply sdcard:update.zip or install zip from sd card it stayed on CWM and didn't change to AmonRA.
@bailz2506 i haven't s-off'd yet i need to make a nandroid back-up first just in case before i can and CWM won't do it for the PVT4 Desire.
Isn't there a PC36IMG.zip for AmonRa for the Desire like there is with the other devices so i can do it the bootloader way?
hi mate,
at the beginning meet same problem... phone rooted but unable to do nand backup
E:misc error file doesn't exist... blablabla
i solved this by rerooting the phone with this cmw3.21 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/reflash_package3.21.exe
once done, i succesfully made a nanbck.
first i s-OFFed the devices and afterwards flash the recovery with fastboot to install Ar 2.0.1
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.1.img
hope this help sorting this
@fragargon nope that didn't work,it still stayed on the same CWM and didn't differ.
@aamir007: Do you have another update.zip file in your sd card?
Did you flash CWM through rom manager?
If so try to delete the file first and copy the one i attached you in sd root.
T.

Don't say things that have nothing to do with this.
What you could do is return to stock. Then run Unrevoked again.
@Thanito I tried it again and deleted the existing one but still no luck
@Lennyz1988 Guess i'll have to do that. Is there any RUU i should avoid using that will update my hboot and make it unrootable. I've made a goldcard so i shouldn't have any problems flashing the RUUs.
hi aamir007,
amazing that didn't work, it was working and got a pvt4 also.
assuming that you are still on cmw (don't know your version) could you try this one
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22152187/recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.8-bravo.img
just launch unrevoked select first the menu and custom recovery (browse to the one downloaded) make sure that "disable security on phone is checked)
should get sorted of this, it was for me.
about RRu depends the rom you have settings/about phone/software you could see all current version rom and radio running on your phone which matter for rru
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo
hope this help
@fragargon I tried it again and this time UnRevoked said is the firmware too new like it does when i try to use it to flash AmonRA, and still on CWM 2.5.0.7.
So i'm going to flash an RUU do i need to flash the same Baseband or lower to make sure its still rootable and the hboot doesn't change.

Phone is rooted with CWM 2.5.0.7 installed, running ROM in my sig. I wanted to update to Amon RA recovery, and a search pointed me at unlockr;
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/15/how-to-flash-a-new-recovery-image-if-you-are-already-rooted/
I followed the guide, opened terminal and typed the following command;
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-desire-v2.0.1.img
In terminal I get a load of lines saying "erase failure" and "skipping write block", at the very end "error writing recovery: No space left on device".
Any help greatly received, also, is that the latest, best, version of Amon RA?
hi to be able to do so (flash recovery) you must be S-off
otherwise it would not work coz security reasons.
anyway if you manage to be S-OFF, do the following
from fastboot command type those command:
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery c:\wherethefile\yourrecovery.img
fastboot reboot
it takes 5 minutes to do so
hope this help

Is your rom using a2sd or similar? This can interfere with the alpharev utility.
I had to do a full wipe, install rooted stock rom (Oxygen as it happened), then run the live CD method for it to work.
You should then be able to switch recovery via fastboot.
Nandroid backup first!

Yes, thanks, you are right. Overread this.
Ok,
Yesterday I used the Alpharev.nl S-OFF flash tool to S-OFF my phone. I went with the Bravo Stock image of theirs.
However, after installing it changed my recovery from Clockwork 2.5.0.7 to a newer version. I was to understand that 2.5.0.7 works the best?
Anyway, I want to use Amon-RA's recovery as the developer for my ROM says this is the one they personally use and recommend, plus you can still boot into Clockwork via ROM Manager, just in case.
I've tried to use unrEVOked to flash Amon-RA 2.0.1 recovery image, but it failed.
How do I change to AMON-RA?
Also, I don't like the "Why so Serious S-OFF" boot image that comes with the Alpha-rev HBOOT after S-OFF'ing. How do I change this?

I wouldn't change recoveries or do fake flashing because of higher possibility of usb bricking your phone. For me any of the following versions of cwm, 2.5.0.7 and 2.5.1.8 have been stable and without any issues with any rom so far.
I have been trying to update my HTC desire to the new touch version of clockworkmod (5.8.0.2) however from within the rom manager app, updating says it completes however on reboot nothing has changed, so I tried doing it manually, i run the command
Code:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.2-bravo.img
each time i get the error when writing the recovery saying
"FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
How can I fix this?
I also tried flashing 5.0.2.0, with the same error, it still says its running 2.5.0.7 :/
please help
Thanks
are you s-on? if yes you can' flash it via fastboot

Thank you for the reply Kotag
My phone is in s-on

I presume you used unrevoked to get root... It comes with CWM 2.5.0.7
You could flash custom recovery from menu but never mind... go to alpharev.nl and get s-off as your hboot is 0.93 or you can use revolutionary (this is unrevoked and alpharev together)
after s-off you will be able to flash anything on the phone... including recovery
Thanks ill try that
yes i did use unrevocked
will making s-off will i have to reflash my rom and lose my data? :/
and also how wud i flash recovery then, because i thought u said earlier that in s-off i cant falsh in fastboot :/?
sorry just noticed my mistake... if you s-on I meant... post edited - reading too many threads
you should not loose any data if everything goes normal... do back up before just in case

no it will not, just run it and enjoy

you don't need linux to run alpharev.iso... that is live cd, boot it as you starting your pc/laptop or revolutionary has windows modification
with s-off i was running cm 7.1 on my G2 then decided to put a orig rom so I installed a pc10.img on sdcard and let it go.
after 3 or so OTA updates I now have android 2.3.4
kernel 2.6.35.10 g96de068 [email protected] 18-2 #1
build number 2.16.531.5 cl 159515 release -keys
When I try to boot into recovery mode i get the red triangle with exclamation
If i the hit vol up and power I get Android system recovery <3>
options are reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cashe partition
E: can't open/cache/recovery/command
How can I get clockwork recovery back working?
everything is how it should be... you are back to stock = stock recovery
what does your bootloader show? (s-off and hboot number)
You are also not rooted now. Why would you do this?
If you want a stock(ish) ROM, there are versions in the Development subforum that are essentially stock ROMs, but pre-rooted and maybe a few other minor optimizations (such as deodexed and zip aligned). These are safe to flash.
Unless your intent is to return to stock (such as for warranty purposes), don't ever flash an official ROM on a rooted Android device. At a minimum, you lose root and go back to stock recovery, or the flash won't work. And its also possible you will get stuck in a bootloop.

I am not sure exactly where to start... i saw something about VISIONary removal. Not sure if I have that ( I did see the word vision in the boot screen..Is this it?) and if I do, how do I remove. I don't want to brick it. A quick list of things in the order I need would be very helpful at this point. My previous post shows what I have now....
thanks
try this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
...but because you have already s-off it should work if you follow 'Gaining Temp Root' and 'Temp-Rooting to Backup' sections (after that you should have perm root again).
good luck
visionary is (tries to be) a quick fix to root your device, you would have to had downloaded it to have it, if you never downloaded it dont, if you have remove it. as for the "vision" on your hboot, i got the same! i guess we are both using an htc vision!
OK all is working again! thanks guys ...
