Hello,
I wanted to post in dedicated post in development section but I don't have enough message posted for that !
I'm trying to install a custom ROM on my Desire (non operator version, stock rom). So I rooted it with VISIONary+ and it looks to have succeeded. Then I installed RomManager to install Clockworkmod ! When I select Flash Clockworkmod in RomManager it states after few seconds that it downloaded it but not that it flashed it When I reboot with recovery mode I get the default android menu and not the one of Clockworkmod. What's wrong ?
I tried also with latest version of unrevocked but it hungs up at end stating "Root failed: perhaps your firmware is too recent !"
Here are all infos of my phone in Boot:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101

and in software versions:

Thanks for all in advance,

Hey I was facing similar issues few days back, use the RUU for your device to restore it to factory settings and then try unRevoked again.
also this is my post -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970566 hope this helps
To confirm, the 2.29.405.5 software is what was on your phone when you got it? If so, use unrEVOked 3.21 as this seems to work for most people (although I had no issues using 3.32 with the same version as you)

Yep I tried unRevoked with old version of amon_ra but no better luck, so I'm going to flash it to RUU and try again. Where should I find the RUU ? I just need to copy it at root of sd card and then in boot mode I select that file and that's it, right ?
Update: I found the link in forum with RUU for Desire Considering mine is an official HTC phone, not branded by any carrier, I should use one of these I suppose but which one :
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4. 05.00.11_release_122704.exe
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release
Update bis: these are all windows update programs so no way to use them for me as I run on Mac, and in Parallels on Mac, Desire doesn't appear as USB peripheral I can attach to Windows when it's in boot mode
Thanks,
Vincèn

Nope when I got it it was probably in Android 2.1 or 2.2 not sure and then I did the OTA update offered by HTC Latest one is few months away !

I had issues with the latest unrevoked and I was getting a failed message. When i removed my sd card everything goes well.
So give it a try without your sd card, who knows it might work for you too!
P.S I have the same HBOOT and android version with you.
Why are you usung unrevoked anyway? Since you are s-off you can easily flash a new recovery via fastboot.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
I don't think you can use unrevoked on an already rooted device - but not sure though.

Did you use Alpharev to S-Off?
When trying unrevoked, did you uncheck "disable security" (or similar) before hitting the button?
EDIT: Sry, I hit reply instead of edit.
It is really strange that you are S-Off. Maybe you are one of the few people having eng-bootloader from stock?
Probably runnung an RUU is your best bet.

oky so I reinstalled RUU 2.29.405.5 with success ! and then tried to run Unrevoked and it finishes with same error as previously (Backup CID is missing, I ran it without security Options !).
If I try to run UNrevoked with Amon_Ra 2, I get Failed to get root. Is your firmware too new ?
With Amon_Ra 0.93 same error about CID missing !
With Clockwork mod 2.5.0.7, same error about CID missing !
I'm desperated It looks like my phone can't be upgraded easily Any other ideas ?
Thanks for all,

I'm waiting for Cyanogen website to come back to life as it's down from here for now

Hi guys
I'm getting an error anytime I try to do something on my orange-branded Desire. It won't wipe data/factory reset and it won't install a rom/zip.
==========
assert failed write raw image("tmp/boot.img"."boot" e:error in /sdcard/rom.zip status 7

hboot v = 0.93.0001
clockworkmod v = 2.5.07
Any ideas guys? Thanks.

Which hardwarerevision does your desire have? You find this out, when you boot into hboot (start phone with pressed volume down and power button at the same time) and read the number in the first line behind the "pvt".
ship s-on
PVT4
hboot 0.93.0001
microp - 051d
touch panel - synt 0101
radio - 5.10.05.30
Tried flashing a different recovery image via clockworkmod and it failed at getting root, complaining of a possible newer firmware revision, which isn't the case because I rooted it a day ago, and superuser permissions app is in the appdrawer.

Clockworkmod does not work with pvt4 desires. You have to flash amonra recovery. Download it here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20471345/SUroot/Tools/Android/Recovery/recovery-RA_2.0.1.img
Run unrevoked again like before, but now integrate amonra recovery before:
File>Custom Recovery>choose downloaded amonra-img.
After this is finished, try to flash the rom you want again.
No warranty for any damage.

Hm... i hope, you can also boot into recovery... another idea is to flash recovery with this method:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/15/how-to-flash-a-new-recovery-image-if-you-are-already-rooted/
Last idea, if you used windows, you could try linux:
http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/desire/howtolinux-root-your-desire-using-unrevoked-in-linux/
This method works for somebody in cyanogenmod forum:
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/7766-flash-recovery-image-from-pc-via-usb/
If these things does not work, i am finished with my knowlegde. Maybe another one has an idea.

hi,
i got the same issue at beginning.
i did unrevoked 3.21 with 2518 cmw, i made i nanbck and was ready to s-off
it s only when s-OFFed that a flash amonRA 201 (i did it with fastboot)
so hehe is the link (before starting the process look at your app manager if an app called Zysploit is in - if so uninstall that app) then run unrevoked linked

Correct. Missed that bit...!
If I could somehow unroot it and return it to stock, then I could re-root and flash Amon-Ra instead of clockworkmod, which I am assuming would achieve S-OFF too?
Only thing is it's an SLCD Desire (I think, going by the HBOOT) and so I don't want to slcd-brick because I don't have a gold card or anything to restore it.
Or perhaps AlphaRev could help me solve all of my problems?
I really don't know at this juncture
Create goldcard with linux:
http://www.nazriawang.com/2010/04/how-to-create-goldcard-with-ubuntu.html
Then follow this guide:
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/307683/howto-unroot-your-htc-desire/
Now you are back to stock with s-on and you can run unrevoked with custom recovery (amonra) again. Now, to get s-off you need to use alpharev:
http://alpharev.nl
Nice video tutorial (step four):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
No warranty for any damage.
Can I skip the first two steps and just go straight to alpharev? Then I can install amon-ra and then use that.
According to this tutorial you could skip the first two steps.
But i do not know it with 100 percent.
So i recommend to ask the alpharev guys in irc. They will help you.
I have been trying to update my HTC desire to the new touch version of clockworkmod (5.8.0.2) however from within the rom manager app, updating says it completes however on reboot nothing has changed, so I tried doing it manually, i run the command
Code:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.2-bravo.img
each time i get the error when writing the recovery saying
"FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
How can I fix this?
I also tried flashing 5.0.2.0, with the same error, it still says its running 2.5.0.7 :/
please help
Thanks
are you s-on? if yes you can' flash it via fastboot
post info from fastboot mode
Thank you for the reply Kotag
My phone is in s-on
and the info is here attached as a screen shot
thanks
I presume you used unrevoked to get root... It comes with CWM 2.5.0.7
You could flash custom recovery from menu but never mind... go to alpharev.nl and get s-off as your hboot is 0.93 or you can use revolutionary (this is unrevoked and alpharev together)
after s-off you will be able to flash anything on the phone... including recovery
Thanks ill try that
yes i did use unrevocked
will making s-off will i have to reflash my rom and lose my data? :/
and also how wud i flash recovery then, because i thought u said earlier that in s-off i cant falsh in fastboot :/?
sorry just noticed my mistake... if you s-on I meant... post edited - reading too many threads
you should not loose any data if everything goes normal... do back up before just in case
When I s-off my phone, date and time always restart to 6 jan 1980 1:00
Anybody had a same problem? Im not s-off anymore
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i dont have linux to run alpha rev, will revolutionary remove my data? :/
no it will not, just run it and enjoy

you don't need linux to run alpharev.iso... that is live cd, boot it as you starting your pc/laptop or revolutionary has windows modification
Hi all, after reading through several tutorials including Bortak's and asking questions in chat rooms, I finally felt like I need to reach out for help on the forum. I have a HTC Desire that was hanging on white HTC screen and had no recovery. I have flashed with AlphaRev HBOOT and it now shows the following in Bootloader:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23
I have tried flashing CWM recovery but when I try to load recovery from the Bootloader it just vibrates 7 times and then vibrates. I just want to get the phone working again, but I am not sure what I need to do or what ROM/RUU I need to use. Also, when I try to flash from fastboot it gives me: "FAILED (remote: not allowed)"
Is this something to do with SHIP S-OFF and not ENG S-OFF. I think getting recovery working is the first step but I am lost.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

I bought the device like this with SHIP S-OFF. It was fine, and then it started hanging at the white HTC screen, and would only boot up correctly once every handful of times. I assumed the ROM was unstable and wanted to flash a stable version of CM 7. However when I realised that there was no recovery I resorted to Fastboot. I then flashed an RUU zip (gingerbread) via fastboot and now it wont start at all, instead it keeps restarting. I have flashed CWM via fastboot to try and get recovery working but when I select recovery from bootloader it just vibrates 7 times.
My objective now - just to get the phone working again

The pink at the top is "--- Alpharev ---". I did try to use Android flasher to flash recovery in fastboot mode but it says I need ENG bootloader or something.
oh rite. im not really sure im afraid, but i think u will have to use the bravo_downgrade.img from Alpharev or the PB99IMG_downgrade if u cant use fastboot commands then run a ruu. i think when u tried the ruu and it failed it was because ur hboot is 6.93.1002 which cant be overwritten by an ruu. The ruu to use would be the exact 1 for ur phone - devise, brand, region ect or use the 2.3 upgrade which is for all and can be found at HTCDev/ kernel source code/ see downloads/ filter by device (desire) below check other then find files, then ul see 2.3 ruu upgrade..
just wait and maybe some1 can confirm this first before trying it or if they have an answer

check out bortak's guide. for what i know (since surfing xda), it is wrong to flash a ruu while you have a 'custom' hboot (the hboot is very important. you can see what hboot you have on the pink line. in fastboot screen. is it Alpharev Data++, Alpharev cm7r2?) but, as long as the screen of the phone is 'alive', there's always a solution.
for more info, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17829936
good luck.

It's not a problem to run RUU if you have custom hboot as long as it have stock partition table. Just try to flash downgrade from alpharev site and then run RUU from your PC.

OK so I downgraded the HBOOT using the downgrader from AlphaRev, then I ran the RUU for Android 2.3, but it still wont boot up. White screen appears for about 10 seconds then keeps restarting. Also the same happens when I try to open recovery from Bootloader. After running the RUU my bootloader shows the following:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-1.02.0001
MICROP-031d
RADIO-5.17.05.23
Any suggestions what to do next?
strange, when i used the downgrader (PB99IMG) it made me s-on then i ran the 2.3 ruu upgrade then used revolutionay to s-off. (dont ask why) lol

I am not familiar with this method of running a RUU by flashing it as a zip from fastboot. The standard method is to execute the RUU.exe from PC while the device is in Fastboot mode. Could this be the root problem ?
This seems to keep coming up so for those of you who can't find the fix, please don't create new threads or post all over the developers forum
The most likely reason you can not flash 4.4.x and newer ROMs:
You have an old recovery
why would this matter?
Basically the way permissions are handled in the updater-script (what tells your device how to flash the ROM) have changed
and thus if you flash a newer ROM with an older recovery you will more than likely see a similar error to this:
set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed

So how do I change recoveries?
you need grab a flashable.zip of the new recovery and then flash it in current recovery
or
a better and safer way is to use fastboot to flash the new recovery
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
*note, change 'recovery.img' accordingly if this is not how the image is named

two other quick notes:
*you can just fix the updater-script yourself to be able to flash a new ROM in an old recovery, but really this is time consuming and poitless
*another method to flash the recovery is to create a PC10IMG.zip and place on SDcard then boot to bootloader to flash, but more work than needed

Which recovery to use? 4ext is problem free, the other two have slight issues but all should be fine for the most part

Happy Flashing!
Silly mistake led to softbrick..
Could you please help me with this problem?
I had CWM 6.0.4.5 flashed in order to install Flinny's CM11 Alpha 5, FC were very common so I was really excited for PureKat ROM
but then I didn't read the instructions carefully enough and switched the phone off instead of rebooting the system after leaving Aroma installer...
Now I'm stuck in a bootloop which constantly shows me the HTC splash, sometimes 2 seconds of CWM and then HTC logo again. I can get into Hboot menu but Factory Reset and Recovery lead back to bootloop, and my laptop (Windows 7 Professional) won't access the sdcard. Silly me also disabled USB debugging but that shouldn't be a problem because I did a full wipe before installing PureKat, right?
Anyways, I can't seem to establish any connection between PC and my DZ in Hboot, otherwise I would have tried to flash a new recovery just as you said
Any help is welcome, thanks in advance!
First thing to do would be to boot into bootloader and write down everything from that screen here, actually here

Is it safe to install ClockworkModRecovery 6.0.4.5 on HTC Desire Z (HTC Vision / G2)? On ClockworkMod site I found only 5.0.2.7 for HTC G2.
Yes it is safe, but not 100% perfect. The reason its not on the cwm site is that it isn't official and hasn't been submitted to become official, maybe some day.

For fastboot commend we need : eng hboot OR unlocked hboot from the htc website (limited commend, but enough for flash a recovery).
So , if some DZ user were too lazy like me , and didn't flash the eng Hboot, but did all the other steps from the wiki to get the root (including s-off), and won't to go through the wiki again, just use the demkantor PC10IMG file from post #30 here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728208&page=3
It work for me. Downside : current rom will bootloop. Can't do restore CWM from 4ext. only fresh install.
Good point @overdose
I do highly recommend an engineering hboot and radio s-off for many reasons, but yes simply unlocking your bootloader will allow you to flash a recovery, but most fastboot commands will still be unavailable

I'm getting 'not allowed' error when trying to use fastboot flash command. I think I did made all steps when rooting and unlocking my phone, but is it maybe connected with 'wrong' hboot?
You probably have a shipped bootloader, boot into your hboot and write down everything from that screen here

1.> Put the "PC10IMG.zip" into "C:\" drive..(u can put it into any other directory)...
2.> Now restart your phone into fastboot mode...
3.> Plug your USB from PC to Mobile..(now it should say "FASTBOOT USB" in red text in Mobile)..
4.> Now open CMD...and type "fastboot oem rebootRUU"
5.> You should now be on the black screen with the HTC logo so now type "fastboot flash zip c:\PC10IMG.zip"...
(NOTE:If you get a message saying 'Failed, repeat immediately'.......just re-run "fastboot flash zip PC10IMG.zip")
Now you should see a green status bar on the black screen
And You are done!.....
very informative! :good:

Wait, your instruction is for ZIP files and you did put link to IMG file. Will it work for IMG file, or I should just use zip file from here for example: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ucdfd91qn7h1dbm/kTTY8yOJLN/PC10IMG ?

Actually I planed to do so. I'm curious if your instructions applies to IMG files to (directly or with small modifications)?
Until you have an engineering bootloader most fastboot commands are unavailable. Grab the .zip from post 30 in that link and follow the directions there.
Alex was having a similar issue to yours earlier but he couldn't get the PC10IMG.zip to work on his SD card so he used the rebootRUU method, which could also work for you. I would advise to understand both methods as they can be helpful to learn down the road
To answer your question directly, you must use the .zip, .imgs will not work with either method

I was sure method with sd card would work fine so tried rebootRUU and it worked. Below is method that worked for me. It is simply whole instruction for getting new recovery when starting without eng HBOOT. This is just 'compilation' of instructions from Alex Mitter and demkantor.
Download DZ_PC10IMG.zip from demkantor dropbox
Connect phone to PC (adb devices to be sure it is recognized properly)
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
to switch to HBOOT. I didn't need to switch to fastboot as it was already in fastboot mode. You might want to use fastboot devices to be sure it is recognized properly again
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Code:
fastboot flash zip DZ_PC10IMG.zip
to flash eng HBOOT
Code:
fastboot reboot-boootloader
to get back to HBOOT and validate it.
Download CWM recovery from 1st post in thread
Code:
fastboot flash recovery CWMrecovery.img
to flash freshly downloaded recovery
switch to recovery from HBOOT to verify version and proceed with PureKat instalation from there
