Hi all, after reading through several tutorials including Bortak's and asking questions in chat rooms, I finally felt like I need to reach out for help on the forum. I have a HTC Desire that was hanging on white HTC screen and had no recovery. I have flashed with AlphaRev HBOOT and it now shows the following in Bootloader:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23
I have tried flashing CWM recovery but when I try to load recovery from the Bootloader it just vibrates 7 times and then vibrates. I just want to get the phone working again, but I am not sure what I need to do or what ROM/RUU I need to use. Also, when I try to flash from fastboot it gives me: "FAILED (remote: not allowed)"
Is this something to do with SHIP S-OFF and not ENG S-OFF. I think getting recovery working is the first step but I am lost.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

I bought the device like this with SHIP S-OFF. It was fine, and then it started hanging at the white HTC screen, and would only boot up correctly once every handful of times. I assumed the ROM was unstable and wanted to flash a stable version of CM 7. However when I realised that there was no recovery I resorted to Fastboot. I then flashed an RUU zip (gingerbread) via fastboot and now it wont start at all, instead it keeps restarting. I have flashed CWM via fastboot to try and get recovery working but when I select recovery from bootloader it just vibrates 7 times.
My objective now - just to get the phone working again
when u hold volume down + power, what hboot is in the bootloader? (pink at top) also u could tried android flasher or the PB899IMG method to install recovery.

The pink at the top is "--- Alpharev ---". I did try to use Android flasher to flash recovery in fastboot mode but it says I need ENG bootloader or something.
oh rite. im not really sure im afraid, but i think u will have to use the bravo_downgrade.img from Alpharev or the PB99IMG_downgrade if u cant use fastboot commands then run a ruu. i think when u tried the ruu and it failed it was because ur hboot is 6.93.1002 which cant be overwritten by an ruu. The ruu to use would be the exact 1 for ur phone - devise, brand, region ect or use the 2.3 upgrade which is for all and can be found at HTCDev/ kernel source code/ see downloads/ filter by device (desire) below check other then find files, then ul see 2.3 ruu upgrade..
just wait and maybe some1 can confirm this first before trying it or if they have an answer

Do you think the fact it is SHIP S-OFF and not ENG S-OFF have anything to do with it?

check out bortak's guide. for what i know (since surfing xda), it is wrong to flash a ruu while you have a 'custom' hboot (the hboot is very important. you can see what hboot you have on the pink line. in fastboot screen. is it Alpharev Data++, Alpharev cm7r2?) but, as long as the screen of the phone is 'alive', there's always a solution.
for more info, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17829936
good luck.

It's not a problem to run RUU if you have custom hboot as long as it have stock partition table. Just try to flash downgrade from alpharev site and then run RUU from your PC.

OK so I downgraded the HBOOT using the downgrader from AlphaRev, then I ran the RUU for Android 2.3, but it still wont boot up. White screen appears for about 10 seconds then keeps restarting. Also the same happens when I try to open recovery from Bootloader. After running the RUU my bootloader shows the following:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-1.02.0001
MICROP-031d
RADIO-5.17.05.23
Any suggestions what to do next?
strange, when i used the downgrader (PB99IMG) it made me s-on then i ran the 2.3 ruu upgrade then used revolutionay to s-off. (dont ask why) lol
edit: when i used the 2.3 ruu i extracted the rom.zip and renamed it PB99IMG and ran it that way

the PB99IMG method didnt work for me - it didnt prompt me to update at all. It just keeps restarting at the HTC screen. Fastboot is still not letting me flash anything its saying FAILED: (remote: not allowed). Recovery is not working - is there anything else I can try?

thats very strange PB99IMG did not work. if "PB99IMG.zip" is on ur sdcard (not in any folder) bootloader should load it. did u rename it to PB99IMG.zip?

Yes, for some reason doesnt pick it up. I'm really unsure what to do. I cant flash using Fastboot, and after flashing the RUU I have lost the AlphaRev HBOOT and I cant get recovery. Can it really be bricked?

I am not familiar with this method of running a RUU by flashing it as a zip from fastboot. The standard method is to execute the RUU.exe from PC while the device is in Fastboot mode. Could this be the root problem ?

Well I need ruu for europe cuz im theere. And yes,I can get into hboot. From there I tryed recovery.
I'm from europe too and the right ruu for mine phone is the RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27
And i think you have to use that one because of the hboot. the ruu you are using have a old hboot version and i dont think the ruu will downgrade hboot..
But if you can enter fasboot use that to flash a recovery and wipe youre phone then install a custome room on it.

Unless the computer/phone has ESP, yes, both adb and fastboot need a cable connection!
If you dont want to do it over cable, find the corresponding PB99IMG and follow the PB99IMG method

Use the attached file.
Put it in the root of your card (not in any folder)
Reboot by pressing Vol- and Power button.
When asked to update, confirm with Vol -
This should give you a working recovery. Then you can flash any rom as you usually do, and at that instance, your bootloops will be solved too.
After this, if you still wish to return Hboot to Stock (without losing S-Off), you can use this PB99IMG. <Make sure you rename it to the same name as the previous file after deleting the former.

I've done a lot of reading and see where Alpharev has a hboot downgrader but does this work with CDMA version BravoC?
I rooted using Revolutionary after having hboot 1.06 for a USCC Desire. Phone is out of standard warranty but I need to send phone in for repair under extended warranty. When I flash 2.2 RUU it cannot roll back hboot version.
Thanks!
I still haven't found anything. Thanks for the help.
what was your original Hboot number?
see alpharev page, if your model is supported try this -
flash HBOOT bravo_downgrader and right after that run appropriate RUU wich contains default hboot to protect extended warranty
as a result of this process you become S-ON again with stock Hboot
i think this may work even for CDMA version but i am not 100% sure
google it and you will find the answer
Here is about GSM Desire...
Actually I just use revolutionary to s-off my phone and it work. I test several new ROMs right now, then I try to flash stock ROM back when found this thread. I can flash the RUU HTC Froyo successfully. but...
the hboot is not overwritten. it still revolutionary. I am very sure the stock ROM I use contain hboot. because I can see it upgrade my hboot from 0.8.000 to 0.93.0001 during I flash this ROM before I s-off it yesterday.
revolutionary claim that we can get the original hboot if we flash stock ROM that contain hboot but it not working for me. maybe you need to tell them about this.

Ah!! Ok, I hadn't seen anything but I really appreciate you confirming this.
[8]STILL S-OFF AFTER RUU
"I want to return my phone for warranty, I used a RUU but I'm still S-OFF"
Cause:
- Alpharev's Hboots are write protected, so that they can not be overwritten by a RUU
HOW TO S-ON
METHOD 1#
[STEP1]- Visit Alpharev and download the "Downgrader"
[STEP2]- Flash the downgrader over fastboot. This can be done with Android Flasher, cmd, or fastboot commander (Note: android flasher is the only program that does not require third party software such as Android SDK or Java JDK)
[STEP3]- You should now notice the title on the bootloader screen is "Alpharev Unlock", run the RUU again and you will have S-ON'd your device.
#METHOD 2#
[STEP1]- Instead of running the RUU again, and putting your phone at risk once more, you can simply upgrade just the bootloader manually, with the PB99IMG.zip method.
[PHASE1]- we need to extract rom.zip from the RUU.
[P1/STEP1]- Run the RUU (BUT DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PHONE OR CONTINUE), move it to the side as it cannot be minimised.
[P1/STEP2]- go to start menu, and use the "run" feature. Type in %temp%
[P1/STEP3]- select "date modified" to "today" (to make it easier to find). There are should now be 2 folders with long names of random characters.
[P1/STEP4]- search the folders for rom.zip and extract it to the desktop.
[P1/STEP5]- delete everything EXCEPT "hboot_8x50_0.93.0001_20100810.nb0" and "android-info.txt"
[P1/STEP6]- rename the zip to PB99IMG.zip (make sure it is not PB99IMG.zip.zip)
[PHASE2]- now we need to update the bootloader
[P2/STEP1]- put the file in the ROOT of your sd-card (not in any file or folder) and boot into bootloader (poweroff, hold VOLUME DOWN and POWER). After a few seconds, you will be prompted to update bootloader. Select Yes. DO NOT INTERRUPT THE PROCESS, OR YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE.
[P2/STEP2]- Once the process is finished, you will now be S-ON.

The system doesn't flash because you still have the cm7 r2 Hboot on your phone, and the system partition is far to small for the stock ROM.. hence you get the system fail.
go to alpharev.nl and download "Bravo Stock". Plug in via usb and turn the phone on (it should be in RUU mode... which is almost the same as fastboot mode AFAIK), and flash the "Bravo Stock" hboot.
Once you've done that, try the latest WWE RUU (if you have a goldcard or you're unbranded)
how can i flash any file to the phone without enter into the recovery !!!!
i cant inter into recovery i am soooooo sad
I'm no expert but having just went through a similar problem to you I can reassure you that the advice you have already been given looks ok.
You don't need to get into the recovery screen - it sounds as if your phone is entering bootloader mode when you turn it on.
In bootloader you are able to use fastboot commands (as described in the above posts) which will allow you to update/upgrade your phone as you wish.
Good luck!

Hi,
i just bought htc desire branded by Orange, i dont know wheres is phone from.
I unrooted it by flashing RUU ROM from shipedroms by PB99IMG.zip. Everything was ok but system failed (fail-pu). I tryed it again and it wroted "invalid cid".
Now i have phone with defaul bootloader (S-ON) and without any ROM and i dont know how to get some into it. ADB dont see any device and i have only access throught fastboot.
Do you have any idea how to fix it?
I would realy appreciate it.

Restart server not working and on display is phone with exclamation point in triangle. I repeat, we dont have functional ROM, recovery, and S-OFF.
Any idea ?
PS sorry for my english.
Thx for reply.
Download mode- do you mean hboot or fastboot? Start the phone with power and vol - held down - for hboot for fastboot power and back button... Without goldcard you can't flash WWE RUU, try to find Froyo for Orange or risk it with 2.3.3 from HTC dev... Single exclamation mark means stock recovery... I got back my warranty repaired Desire the other day with this configuration. Unrevoked doesn't work, I can only assume because of the PVT4, I already had a gold card which had helped root several phones but this didn't help.
In the end the only resort was to S-off using revolutionary.io, no gold card required.
Once you are s-offed (and the process can add a recovery) you can boot into recovery and flash a downloaded rom.
Ok we have gold card but all tutorials for s-off need functional rom
Any idea?
i could not root it by revolutionary because i dont have system. I have only access to bootloader with s-on, i need some procedure to root it without system.
could anynone help ?
As you have goldcard install WWE RUU, then go for s off

S-off does not require a functional rom. Simply go to revoltionary.io and download their beta tool and get a key to use it.
Whatever you've been reading about instructions requiring a rom is incorrect.

Sry, but i tried it 3 times and no effect. After create gold cart 2.3RUU working
Before you said "another bricked post!?" hear me out..
I spent last 5 hours looking for a fix to this problem and I just could found any so any help would be nice..
I had Cyanogenmod 7.2 installed with CM7 r2 hboot, then I saw nice theme in zip. file, good comments, so I made a backup and installed it.
Nope, stuck in HTC boot.. Alright, battery out, let me try recovery and restore.. Nothing, couldn't enter recovery no matter what I do.. Guess it's bricked so I downloaded RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe (latest I could find). Boot into fastboot and started RUU, nope again, black HTC boot, update failed.. then I realized I had CM7 r2 hboot and now i can't even start bootloader, it opens but it only says RUU with black triangles with !..
TLDR.. bricked with CM7 r2 hboot, can't open bootloader, can't open recovery and for some sick reason my card reader won't recognize SD card.. so I can't really acces SD card
Anyway to fix this or am I boned?
Try the 2.3 RUU. ( link in my sig)
ruu didnt work coz u have to be on stock hboot and flash alphrev downgrader and then ruu (2.3 like posted above is the best bet). a ruu is too big to fit on CM7r2 hboot

thank you but that's not RUU, it's rar file with zip upgrade file in it, or am I missing something?
I can't access bootloader so I can't install it, it's stucked at black HTC logo and failed RUU update so only RUU can fix it, I guess so..
is there an gingerbread RUU exe file anywhere?

I guessed that was a problem, but I can't access bootloader or recovery, I tried everything I could think of.. is there anyway to downgrade it via usb, like RUU?
sorry mods for double post
Fastboot commands should still work in RUU mode.So shouldnt be hard to downgrade.
fastboot flash hboot bravo_downgrade.img, or something like that.
Oh and the ruu is in the zip file just extract it.
yh like colin says fastboot commands should still work. just pull the battery for a min and put back in then hold back button + power then if it powers on (vibrates) then plug it in to computer then flash the downgrader (put bravo_downgrade.img in ur c:\ drive on ur computer)
fastboot flash hboot c:\bravo_downgrade.img
if that works then run the 2.3 ruu in my sig
