Hi,
Am having a real problem with push whatsapp, facebook and gmail notifications when the phone is locked/asleep while connected to Wifi (not with twitter though).
As soon as I disable WiFi and 3G turns on, all notifications come through.
I have tried all manner of WiFi sleep settings and read numerous forum posts but cannot seem to find a solution.
Anyone else with the same problem or a solution?
Thanks
UPDATE:
at home the wifi works fine and all push messages comes thriugh, at work they are blocked: could it be a firewall p[roblem?
Check if your wifi indicator is blue. If it's gray, the notifications won't come through.

indeed it's gray...
never noticed the difference...
so what does it mean when it's gray? what's the reason? how can it be changed? does it depend on the network or on some settings?

Grey = no connection to the Google services
It's most likely your company's firewall blocking direct access to those ports. It's the same at my company. I would have to go through a proxy to get the sync working but sadly you can't configure a system wide proxy. The proxy settings you can insert in the wifi settings only work in the browser.

what about setting, for that particular wifi network, a static address and google open dns?
If your wifi network is configured like ours it's: intranet - proxy - internet
Using another dns server or a static ip won't change that. You can't bypass the proxy with a network setting, the ports are blocked regardless of your ip address or dns server.
If your it service can't help you, you'll have to work around that issue by deactivating wifi every now and then to receive your messages from the google services via your mobile network connection.
I am having the same problem. Does anyone know what ports need to be opened to enable notifications to continue?

Or how about just not connecting to the office wifi? Unless he has some work related reason to use it, it seems useless to connect to for his phone.

whenever I want to sign in to msn live messenger, my hermes tries to connect to gprs connection. even when I have free direct access to internet through wifi connection.
I tried everything but it still tries to connect.
Apart from live messenger I can connect to every type of internet service through the active wifi connection.
Is this a bug o the live messenger ?
Is there any newer version that beats this bug ?
I believe that it is a "feature" of WLM that no user actually wants but the network operators are quite happy with and probably had a say in.
Best workaround I know of is to have a network set up with no connections defined, and select that in Settings > Connections tab > Connections > Advanced tab > Select Networks. You may already have a network defined there called "Wifi" (my Orange M3100 did).
If you do that, all apps will be forced through wifi (if enabled), but if you want to use GPRS, you will have to switch the network back.
Anyone know of any apps that will make it quick and easy to change this with a single button click? I hoped that Phoneweaver would have it in the profiles but it doesn't
Disconnect from grps...then sign in to msn... then click cancel when it says "connecting"

interesting, it works.
but if I reset, then connect to gprs for any other reason.
and then disconnect.
then it never connects to msn with no gprs connection.
after a reset it works again.
thanks for the workaround...

Exchange exposed to Internet?
Is your Exchange system exposed to the Internet? Can you access an Outlook Web Access system from the Internet?
Make sure you selected SSL and have pointed to the correct exposed address.
Most likely cause is default proxy, check your connection settings and remove that tick that states use this proxy server for the GPRS connection.
I have successfully configured vpn on my phone to connect to my home network. Unfortunately I have no idea what this is useful for. Can anyone give any suggestions?

VPN or Virtual Private Network gives you the ability to connect from a hotspot to your home network. Once connected you can use the services of your own network while being somewhere else. For example if you have set up a DLNA server at home, you can watch your movies while sitting in the park for example. This is of course if both your home internet connection and the hotspot's connection can spare the bandwith required for the service you are using and the service doesn't mind the extra lag.
VPN is more useful if you connect to your business network, because companies usualy limit the services and data that can be accessed from the internet.
That's the theory anyway, because I can't test that feature - my router doesn't support incoming VPN connections.
Hi,
I am not able to connect to gmail, talk, facebook and market though wifi connection. But I am able to browse internet though default Browser.
I am on U3_3.4.2_155-002_DEBLUR rom.
Is there any different setting needed for wifi on these application?
please help!!
I have got same problem when i was connecting my defy to wifi for the first time. I am not sure what has solved my problem but i have been messing around with wifi settings in modem.. Try to change wifi channel from auto to any number(usually the best is 1,6,11,13 - that is what i have heard). Or maybe you will need to make an static ip for defy in phone settings... try it.
I have tried with static id also, but doesnt connectto gmailor market?
How to change wifi channel fro auto to any number? is this in modem or in defy?
Try to put your access point on channel 1, 6 or 11. Use wifi analyzer to discover what channel is less populated.

In modem settings
I have checked the connection on different channel without success!!!
Thing is that my Browser works great on wifi and other application don't.
I think I got a the problem, wifi connection is on proxy settings which requires username and password, while surfing in browser it prompts for it and I do the rest to enter it. But in gmail, market or facebook nothing pops up and after a while it shows "difficulty in connecting network try after some time".
Any solution to enter a username and password in those application?? or some thing else can be done!!!!
My all applications works great on 3d or edge!
Hi everyone,
Since a few weeks my 9RT has had issues with my home WiFi network. It connects just fine to the WiFi and internet. But then randomly it looses the internet connection (WiFi stays connected)
I've tried several things to try and solve it. I've turned off private DNS. I've checked all my apps to make sure none of them can turn off the WiFi. I tried some different settings in the router too by turning off 5G and just use 2.4G. I've also updated the router firmware and my 9RT is running the latest software. None of this seem to make a difference.
I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the phone as all our other devices have no issues with our home WiFi.
Is there a logging app that logs what happens when the internet connection drops?
My router is a Fritzbox 7530.
Just to clarify. WiFi stays connected but the internet gets disconnected.
What is the ping to the router, what is the traceroute to the ISP, have you done a reset to factory settings, can other devices access e.g. the ftp server on this phone?

I don't know about the ping and trace route? I haven't done a factory reset. And ftp server? Sorry I'm a bit lost here...
It is not easy to answer you questions about your network, because only you have access to it.
Download Network Analyzer and do some checking yourself.
Network Analyzer - Apps on Google Play
Wifi scanner, signal meter, ping, traceroute, whois, DNS query & other net tools

Thanks for your reply. So I have now installed the app. What sort of info would you need to possibly see what might be wrong?
