[Q] Gmail & Market through wifi - Defy General

Hi,
I am not able to connect to gmail, talk, facebook and market though wifi connection. But I am able to browse internet though default Browser.
I am on U3_3.4.2_155-002_DEBLUR rom.
Is there any different setting needed for wifi on these application?
please help!!

I have got same problem when i was connecting my defy to wifi for the first time. I am not sure what has solved my problem but i have been messing around with wifi settings in modem.. Try to change wifi channel from auto to any number(usually the best is 1,6,11,13 - that is what i have heard). Or maybe you will need to make an static ip for defy in phone settings... try it.

I have tried with static id also, but doesnt connectto gmailor market?
How to change wifi channel fro auto to any number? is this in modem or in defy?

Try to put your access point on channel 1, 6 or 11. Use wifi analyzer to discover what channel is less populated.

In modem settings

I have checked the connection on different channel without success!!!
Thing is that my Browser works great on wifi and other application don't.
I think I got a the problem, wifi connection is on proxy settings which requires username and password, while surfing in browser it prompts for it and I do the rest to enter it. But in gmail, market or facebook nothing pops up and after a while it shows "difficulty in connecting network try after some time".
Any solution to enter a username and password in those application?? or some thing else can be done!!!!
My all applications works great on 3d or edge!

wireless problems on my Orbit

Hi All,
I have a problem with the wireless connection on my Orbit.
When I try to connect to the internet the first time via my router I am assigned an ip address via DHCP and everything works fine. After I have left the device for a couple of minute and try to connect to the internet I just get the message Locating from the internet explorer and it will not connect to the internet unless I reboot.
I have tried the following to try and resolve.
Assign Static IP Address and DNS Servers
Removed all Encrytion and Mac Address filtering from the router.
I have tried to stream internet radio to see when it drops the connection.
Tried continuously pinging the router deafult gateway.
Disabled powersave options.
I would like the device to always stayed connected so that I can send and recieve Skype calls
Has anyone else experience this problem ?
I have exactly the same problem with you (my device is the HTC P3300) and I have tried everything you mention -apart from the ping and streaming audio - but no effect whatsoever.
I suspect that the problem lies with my wireless modem-router (USRobotics 9108) but I have yet to find something useful for it. Others I have asked have no such problem.
Someone mentioned that in "my network connects to" in the wireless network adapter settings we should check "Work" instead of "The internet". Haven't tried that yet though.
Do you have the same problem with other types of internet connection e.g via usb?
USB and GRPS work fine! It is just the wireless that has the problem, it seems like the device is loosing it's connection to the router even though it retains an ip address. When you try to ping from the phone to the router you get timeout request.
Even when you release and renew the ip address it still will not work, the only way I have found to make it work is either to reboot or turn the wireless off then back on.
I just wonder if there are any timeout values that shutdown the wireless connection after a certain amount of time?
Some remarks...
I used Media player with streaming audio via wifi and guess what? It didn't stop a couple of minutes later as I expected but kept playing for 15-20 mins. The P3300 was on power supply all the time. Then I quit from Media player and browse the net for a while. After about 5 mins... here we go again. I beleive that IE has some kind of counter that when exceeded (data, time?) it stops connecting. The funny thing is that afterwards neither media player streams nor skype worked.
On the other hand I tried skype on a new session without ever opening IE and guess what? It worked like a charm for about an hour... It never stopped responding. Now what do you make out of this?
I thought it may be IE causing the problem so I installed Netfront 3.3.
Same problem! I don't think it is the browser causing I have the same problem with Netfront.
When the connection goes I use pocket lan to ping from the phone to the router and do not get a reply.
The fact that we can stream music/video and use skype for long periods of time with out problems leads me to believe that once you initiate a constant outbound session from the phone to the router it is fine but as soon as disconnect this session this is when the problems start.
I think there maybe a registry setting for the wireless card may need changing.
I will check later and post my findings....
Any luck with our problem?
Could it be a ram allocation thing to do with IE? As I don't seem to have this problem with the WIFI but I do find that my orbit slows down to an unacceptable rate during IE use or until I use space reclaimer etc.

I don't beleive so, because my P3300 is working as it should except that it won't download any pages after a while. If I check RAM afterwards is pretty much acceptable. The machine will not slow down at all it just stops downloading as if the connection is broken (but its not).
make sure under settings/connections you have a a setting called MY ISP, if not then make a new one.
then go to settings/connections/advanced and "select networks", make sure BOTH say using "MY ISP"
then go to settings/wifi and click on network adaptors and make sure it says "my network card connects to the internet
Voila all problems solved !

I certainly don't have "MY ISP" !!!!
How can I add one? the only thing I can see in this screen is "internet" in bold and below "add new modem connection", "add new VPN connection", "Proxy server...". When I choose "add new modem connection" it asks for my modem type (GPRS, irda, bluetooth, COM1) and afterwards "call number" and such...
Which one should I choose for MY ISP?
I think that there used to be a "MY ISP" but I must have erased it...
go to manage connections/add new
Thx for info, I figured it out...
no problem m8. any other problems give me a shout, I have only had the Orbit for around a week but have sussed most of the problems out including loop resets etc.

I'm having trouble and can't figure out how to do the setting for the internet. Can anyone post a step by step guide on how to do it? TIA
When u say settings for the internet do u mean for wifi?
Yes, I mean for wifi
First of all read the manual. Or try the following. If all fails try to be more specific about your problem.
1. Make sure wireless network is up and running.
2. Press Comm Manager and press wireless icon.
3. Usually it scans automatically for nearby networks
4. If a network is found is announces the network's name and if a connection is desired.
5. You enter password (WEP, WAP, or whatever u have)
6. Connection established.
It is recommended to use in "start>settings>wireless network>power" the slider in "better performance" setting. Leave others as is.
Tip: if u open Internet Explorer before a connection is established (check for the apropriate icon) then it connects automatically with GPRS.
Network/Connection/Communication Manager for my HTC Artemis/XDA Orbit
I've got a problem with my device's connection Manager in Setting/Connection/Connection. I am able to add any connections using ISP, GPRS, bluetooth... but can only use the last one added. I have no facility to manage these connections or switch between these (this is rather strange, I've always been able to manage this on my previous devices).
I am therefore left confused with this. I have tried to download a communication manager, but this one did not work.
Any ideas from anyone?

Connected ti WiFi router, but IE not connecting to Sites

Hey guys, I just recently got my Softbank and upgraded to WM6 this morning. All is good except for my WiFi. The phone is able to connect to my router but when I try to go to sites with IE it gives me this error:
"THe page cannot be displayed or downloaded because connection was lost. Check the connection and try again"
Sites show up fine with EDGE, but IE does not show sites via WiFi. Router even shwos the phone connected to it and that an IP is assigned.
Excuse my ignorance, I am new and any help and advice is greatly appreciated.
Try this ...

start>settings>connections>wi-fi:
1. Click on your wirless SSID which should say connected.
2. Make sure it says connected to the internet.
3. Select the "This is a hidden network."
4. Make sure all of your keys/passwords are correct.
start>settings>connections>wireless LAN:
1. Make sure it is connected with good strength.
2. Verify It gave you an ip on the Advanced Tab.
3. Turn the Power Mode all the way up to Best Performance.
In your router verify you are not blocking or mac address filtering this connection. You might want to reserve the IP address for you device MAC.

I tried the settings and still no go. I'm using a Linksys router and I have it set up to where the router assigns the phone a specific IP. According to the router, the phone is connected and according to the phone, the phone is connected. Should the GPRS(EDGE) be active and connected at the same time? Cause it is, how do I manually disable it? I feel really stupid if this is why.
prodigalfish: Is that cab only for use with cingular network? I'm on tmobile network, so I'm not sure if I could use that cab. I will do a hard reset though, haven't tried that yet.
Yes It does matter....

TURN IT OFF!!!
Inside of activesync you must tell it allow wireless / data connection. If you press and hold the hangup red button the GRPS connection will drop. You can also turn it off in the comm manager.
Did you ever solve this problem as I am having exactly the same the one.
1. Wifi works fine, can transfer files over the network, Skype connects etc
2. Only PIE (PIEPlus) does not connect to web pages.
I have done everything mentioned here. Hmm

My guess is that the version of PIE you are using (or PIEPlus) has a hard-coded proxy address that your device cannot reach. I use Opera myself, works much better than PIE (IMHO).
John
Have you tried changing the authentication to Shared instead of Open?
This worked for me.
I have the same problem with these newest roms, just after set up 3G connection(Softbank by using ConnSBM).
It worked fine with roms before 5/15th.

How do I force ie to use wifi

Ok, after a lot of had work I now appear to have access to one of my routers (Netgear WNR834B)...
But I can't get Internet explorer to access the internet via the wifi connection... My XDA keeps trying to access the GPRS connection.
I've ready several other threads but nothing seems to fit my problem. Any ideas? From what I can read I have to set up a connection to the wifi but I can't find wifi listed in the connections window...
Can someone give me a few pointers...
Thanks in advance
Well i had the same problem with my settings....
When i have configured my mms settings mannually... the IE wants to connect to gprs always but
I go to settings... conection advanced tab and change the firs to my worknetwork cause says thta all the pribate programs wants to conect with my GPRS settings... just let it no choose to take mms settings... it seems to be the answer to me and everything works again for me... oups i miss something you need to use once your gprs then make this change please.
Hmmm
I think I see where your going... but I can't see how this would help... But I'll try hand on...
No that didn't work for me... I tried to change the connection to use the MMS but all it tries to do is use the GPRS again. I can't seem to change it even after it connects via MMS.
Found out another bit of the puzzle tonight. I have to set an IP inside the BA or else I get no conections to the internet via the active sync cradle. (set to 192.168.1.22 subnet 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1)
But even thought the wireless LAN manager says I'm connected (and I get the correct MAC address for the router) if unplug the BA from the cradle the router reports I'm not connected... Its almost as thought theres a stealth firewall running on the PDA...
Any idea?
Mmm lets work on it...
i will upload a video of this issue to show you how it works... i dont have any idea of make it works by entering a diferent ip.

wifi forgets wep encryption

I noticed when im out of range of my home wifi, or turn it of then on, the TP2 forgets my wep encryprtion password and i must input it each time.
Anyone notice this?
anyway to make sure it always connects to the wifi i specify and keeps my encryption code so i dont have to keep inputing it?
EDIT - Problem appears to be connecting temporarily vs creating an access point account under settings:
My wifi issue has been solved.
"It seems that i was just doing a wifi search and connecting to my router.
Instead, you need to go into settings, then wifi settings, and CREATE an access point by inputing all your SSID data, wep key etc etc...
once it has this it stores it and whenever your in the area it auto connects as it should.
it seems that this was a user error on my part and not the TP2 error.
prior to this i was just searching for my router and connecting... the tp2 never actually saved it and each time i was out of range or turned phone off., i would have to search again.
inputing the info via wifi settings and NOT searching and connecting solved this problem"
i'm not getting this problem mate... i've got a few keys to different wireless networks and it all works seemlesley.
hmmm...
if im the only one, maybe ill delete all the info try again..
yup, got the problem here, it usually happens to me with new phones before i start installing other stuff, don't know which program though to install to really make it stick. Right now most of my settings are not sticking, they revert back to stock after a soft reset or after a few hours unattended. annoying as hell.
yep, me also. It's happened when I haven't used WiFi for a while -I think
what happens when you put in the key in the wireless tab.
hardpress wifi in the comm manager and choose wireless
then you get the "old" menu where all settings for a network have to be filled.
had the problem of forgetting first but when inserted through this way its gone.
vinciente
i don't have that problem on mine.
BTW, i use WAP not WEP. it may make different ???

WiFi help

Hy. I bought my defy one week ago and I have noticed some inconsistencies with the WiFi function. I got it tot work on a public network in a restaurant on the first try. At home however everything seems so random : I got it to connect to WiFi 5-6 times eventhough I don't have a router but most of the times I get the : "connection detected" notification but no internet access ( when i select the network in the wifi settings it says the signal is excellent ).
My modem is a Huawei EchoLife HG520s, I am running windows 7 x32, my phone was not rooted and i didn't make a blur account.. that doesn't work either.
I would really appreciate your help.

You are getting wifi signal at home but do not have a router? You mean a wifi router? If that's the case maybe you are picking up wifi signals from someone else's router and you cannot connect because you need to sign on? If you are having trouble getting on your own router, could you tell us what it is etc.?
You didn't set up a Blur account? Or you did and it doesn't work? Where are you located? If you tried to set it up and couldn't it may be because some markets (I hear) do not support Blur. For instance, there are some models of Defy that do not have Blur and that's probably why.
Sorry i should have made it clearer: i have not bought any kind of router but the modem i use could have a wifi router incorporate(i don't know if it does i lost its documentation).
I live in a house with no nearby sources of wifi and both networks (the one i use to connect to the internet from my pc and the wifi i find if i scan wth my phone have the same name)
I live in Romania and everytime i try to set up a Blur account and click the start button it cancels.

Is there any way you can temporarily disable your modem's wifi security just so you can get on to see if that works? Make sure to turn it back on after, this is just to see if that's the cause of the trouble.
Also about setting up a Blur account - did you try that at home, or at an open Wifi area (eg. the restaurant)? If it doesn't work at home then I guess it's worth trying it at the restaurant or any other place where you can get the connection to work.
Well the network i get here at home is 'open' and i get a connection everytime.. just no internet access on my phone and the computer doesn't seem to recognise the connection (happen exactly he same even on the times i had internet access)

exactly what happened to me. is not a router's problem but a DNSes problem.
you must enter the router and disable the "automatic DHCP". enter in the settings of the phone, wifi, advanced DNS settings automatically if not found. and it work.
P.S. after this if you have problems with your computer, right click the connection, and then do "problem solving". good luck ...

the only problem is that I can't seem to find a router in my devices.. i have a internet modem that might have a wi-fi router incorporated
How does the computer connect to the modem if it uses USB i'm not too sure what you can do but if it uses ethernet what I recommend you do is click on start, and type in "cmd" when this loads type "ipconfig /all" this will then bring up all the details of your connection. What you are looking for is the default gateway, this will be the address of your router. With this add "http" and the default gateway number into a browser, you should then be able to get into the routers config and then you can follows powertony84's guide.
Well i'm pretty sure the network I connect to with my phone is mine because i just changed its security level to WEP using bobdigby advice. But I got lost afterward.
I have attached a prinscr of the DHCP setting i can fiddle with and i really appreciate your help so far
Any idea what channel i should use? i got a tip to chage the channel but i don't know into which one
I don't use any router but I turn my laptop, which supports wifi, into a wifi hotspot so that my defy can use wifi within my apartment. It's wonderful!
