Coming from a Droid Incredible - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I am coming to Sprint (and locked into the network) from a Verizon Droid Incredible. I loved the phone and I am sad to see it go, but Verizon doesn't do well in my new location. Sprint is the best and I am torn. The area also does not have 4g.
My entire family has gone with the 4s but I am on the fence. I love the openness of Android. I have an old Ipod touch 2g that has been used just for music since I got the Dinc.
Is this the phone to get or should I just get an Iphone?

E4GT is an amazing phone period even with it being a bit older then the 4S. Honestly if you do love Android (as you have one already) You will love the E4GT

Epic Touch for the win! The screen size is the best, compared to the tiny screensize of the iPhone. You'll get more out of this device than the iPhone.

I had this phone and decided I wanted to try the 4s. The 4s was a great phone but in the end I missed Android so much and I really missed the screen size of the Epic Touch so I went back to the Epic Touch. If you really love Android and your on Sprint the Epic Touch is hands down the best phone Sprint has to offer at the moment.

trust me, your iPhone toting family/friends will be envious. all of mine are.
of the screen. of the android features. of the tethering. of the camera. but mostly of the screen, all of the iPhone folk that know nothing about the tech behind it or the possibilities that android gives you are Always jealous of the screen, because thats all they see, that's the only feature that matters to them that they can understand. (f*cking magpies. lol.)
every. single. iPhone. user. I have encountered since picking this phone stops. stares. asks in a quiet voice... "what phone is that?", mouth slightly agape.
I tell them it's a Galaxy S II. as casually offhandly possible.
"... is that... an Android phone?... I... didn't know it could (insert awesome feature here)..."
every. damn. time.

Yeah...,the gs2 gets attention. Very very nice phone. If sprint is strong in your area I don't see you regretting it

Actually While I do love my android phones I don't have an issue telling someone they will like the iPhone more for what they are going to use it for. It's pretty simple if you like another phone use it if not stick with what you know. As it is there is a 14 day "period" of time he can use/try the iPhone 4S and if he does not like it return it and get the E4GT. Either way it's really up to him.

Lol. I be honest to. Everyone in my soho has either a flip/keyboard phone, or an Iphone and Everytime some one sees it they always are like wow.. I wish I would of got that phone.. And yes the main thing the focus on is the beautiful screen because that's he first thing they see, of course they always love the lockscreen also

I am still really torn. My mom got the iphone on my recommendation for its simplicity/intuitive UI. She isn't a power user. My dad got it because he needed a mac for his work education and really liked the iCloud. Is there any inkling on when the galaxy S3 will go on sale?

Samsung will not even talk about the SG3 period all anyone knows is "summer" and that's about it. And honestly that's not even saying much I will say this however even though the GS3 will have better specs then the GS2 the GS2 regardless is still a beast of a phone. Out of the box it stands against pretty much every single phone released right now including the GNexus. Like I've said in another post you do have a 14 day window you can test a phone out. Give both the iPhone and the GS2 a go and see which one YOU like more.

I find nothing appealing about the iPhone at all. My GF has a 4s, and I honestly cannot stand it. There's no way I could ever go from *any* android phone to an iPhone. Just looking at the iPhone 4s screen after using my E4GT makes it look like a pile of barf. Yeah, it has really high pixel density, but who cares when the screen is so small that your thumb can cover 6 buttons at once.

Reasons NOT to get an Incredible?

Im an EVO guy with Sprint but my wife is on Verizon and currently on an old ass Blackberry Curve. Im trying to get her into the Android world, but like most chicks she is considering an IPhone now that they are going to be rolled out on Verizon. I know all about the IPhone, but nothing about the Incredible or other Android phones offered by Verizon (since Im on Sprint). I assume all or most of the good stuff (solid stable roms, tweaks, etc) available for the EVO are available for the Incredible as well?
Can you give me some pros and cons for the Incredible? Any issues with things like the screen, speakers, voice quality, battery life, or other quirkiness to know about? I did a few searches but didnt really find what I was looking for. Enlighten me. TIA
They only thing I complained about when I got my Incredible was the battery life. But then I rooted, flashed a cutom (Redemtion Rom 2.2) and Kernel (12/21 Incredikernal) and now nothing will make want to get a new phone. Fast as hell and does damn near everything you want it to do! Go with the Incredible.
There is no reason not to get an incredible. It is a great phone once you get an extended battery.
dude for your old lady.. get the incredible. or the thunderbolt.. there really is no reason not to get the phone.. everything is good..
There is one main reason not to get the Incredible. Thunderbolt. IF this doesn't get you to wait. Incredible is the best phone Verizon offers. The Icrap is a mistake and sucks that we are sufficing the NE2 because of crapple.
If she wants the iPhone just get her the iPhone. I went through this same thing with my GF who was on AT&T. She had a blackberry and wanted the iPhone. I convinced her that Android was better and to switch to Verizon once her contract was up. All she does is complain about how she hates her phone (incredible like me). She already had it made up in her mind that the iPhone was superior and nothing was going to change that. Much like that Evo vs iPhone video that came out a few months back. No matter what you say it'll just be, "I don't care I want an iPhone"
It's the sad truth but once someone is set on an iPhone it's nearly impossible to break that. I'm now going to get slammed with having to buy an iPhone outright for my girlfriend so that she can get off android
My wife has an iPhone and she loves it. I've tried to turn her on to android but she won't hear of it. She's not a geek like me...she uses it for texts and calls with a bit of web browsing. A true smartphone is a waste on her regardless. She likes her iPhone and my Titanic dislike for it doesn't sway her in the least. Keep her happy...get her an iPhone now cuz you'll only be getting her one after you waste money on something else first.

I'm interested in the replies to the OP as well. I currently have an Evo also and have only run CM on it from day 1, but as much as I'd hate to lose a whole 0.6" of screen I get horrible service at work (we have a Verizon tower in the casino though!) and only 1 bar at home, so I'm thinking of switching to the Incredible since it's mostly (please don't flame me, I said mostly) a smaller Evo hardware-wise minus 4G and front camera of which I never use either one.

ONLY complaint i have is the battery. Don't really want to HAVE to buy an extended battery to use the device as it should. HTC skimped on the bat
other than that, love it

Yeah, this pretty much sums it up. Thanks for everyone's opinion. At least I tried lol. If nothing else I learned a few things about a few other Android phones, especially some of those units coming out on Verizon soon. Hell of a line-up they are going to have. My EVO days could be numbered but I dont know if I could drop Sprint after about 15 yrs of service.
from my understanding anyone looking to switch to verizon and thinking about getting an incredible... just wait for thunderbolt.. it's the EVO but for verizon....

It pretty much is, in the same way that the Thinderbolt is the Verizon EVO.
I agree with a few here... if your girlfriend wants and iphone you get her an iphone.
Android is great for people who like to customize but the majority out there are all about form over function.

[q] who made the switch to iphone?

i just had to do it lol .. not bad at all imo
You switched? I said I wasn't thinking about it..but now I am.
My phone pissed me all the way off today. Unplug from 10am at 99%...at 2pm I'm at 25%. 25!!!!!! And from 10am to 2pm, I was in my class for an hour and didn't even touch my phone. That's basically 4 ****in hours. 4! I'm still pissed. I've been pissed all day. Let me know how that phone is.
Edit: And you'll probably get flamed for this. People might come in and be like "THE EFF THIS GOTTA DO WITH THE E4GT!!" and this will probably get closed...if it does, pm me. I really want to know about the iPhone
Don't give two ****s about the iPhone. Enjoy being a sheep. And imo, you're trolling.
im loving this phone so far i got the 32 gig i have had all the top sprint phone 3d , photon, and the epic touch ......only thing i miss from my epic is the screen size ... so far speed very fast. better cam better screen i will update on batter life later
Not me. But, I know my daughter wants one. I will do it once the prices drop on Ebay for a clean ESN one off contract. I myself will NEVER own APPLE. It amazes me how people hated M$ years ago and now Apple is doing the same and it's ok. But to each his own. Hope it treats you well. My sister loved hers.
i am a fan of tech, not companies. If an apple product fit my needs from a phone standpoint, i would make the switch no questions. Right now, ET4G is what i am digging, but if you get what you need with an iphone great!
Will you ask siri why we have los

That is the way I also think.....I would switch if the 4s came out with a 4.0-4.5 screen, had a 4g radio would be even better if it had SuperAmoled. Right now it would be a downgrade for me on what I want out of a phone.
if it had 4.3" screen and wimax, I would have bought one
but for now, especially since its off contract, and id need at least 32gb.....who has $749 for a phone lol
Ill wait for the iphone 5 LTE version I guess
What a mistake
Just got my iphone 4s in the mail today and i regret it already after 5 hours, this os is so lame and boring theres nothing to it got to spoiled on android with customizing everything, not much different from when i had the very first iphone.forgot about no flash too wtf was i thinking listening to all these paid off reviewers that always give it over rated reviews and the pics are good but not as good i dont care what anyone says.pics i have take with my epic 4g touch are cleaner, brighter, sharper and better even when compared on my desktop, even with the random minor issues my 4g touch had it is still better by far.every issue could but fix with updates that should be around the corner.iphone 4s is a mistake and waste of money unless u like no flash or sd slot or just dont like doing cool things to the appearance of your phone, very plan os.selling on ebay tonight already reconnected my epic 4g touch, now i will never leave android.
you have been warned!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did the opposite 4 weeks ago, went from iphone on att to epic 4g touch. Happy that I did for many of the same reasons listed above, also the screen size, camera quality, etc..

My GF wanted an iPhone. Why do I get the urge to vomit everytime I say or type iPhone? Anyways the pressure was on to get the perfect Androids for us. The Eris experiment was a failure for her and soured her on Android big time. She then brought an old Blackberry back into service and was miserable with it. I faired better but missed out on sharing the Android experience with her. We both got the Galaxy Nexus and couldnt be happier. This phone is damn good. The software is even better.
Glad to see people enjoying the phone instead of them *****ing when they really don't understand what they're doing.

Why do you? the iPhone is a great phone. Not open like android but the software is very optimized and polished. Senseless apple hate just pisses me off.
On topic: I love my verizon galaxy nexus as well. Battery life is only decent on the stock battery but I ordered the extended battery to make up for that. 4G speeds in my are are faster than my verizon fios internet (26mbps down on 4G vs 20mbps down cap on my fios internet), and the screen is awesome.
Best solution, get Nexus and iPod touch. Now you have the best phone and if you want anything that an iphone can do just tether! only thing you cant do is call or txt on ipod touch.
Ive owned every Nexus devices and have switched carrier to carrier trying to find the perfect network-to-Nexus collaboration, haha. Ive finally returned to Verizon with a Nexus in hand and i honestly couldnt be happier.

Got I love my GN! Only have the GSM model yet still get around 7Mbps download rates, with unlimited bandwidth. Really can't see how I'd need the LTE version with that performance already (from UK, LTE is unavailable here for a couple of years it seems). Nothing beats being able to torrent **** with good down rates while on the move.
Software keeps getting better, 4.0.2 has seen dramatic increase in battery life, with new updates coming thick and fast. My girlfriend has an iPhone 4 and constantly nags to use my phone to browse and shop. I can see why, after using this phone for a few weeks now, the iPhone seems totally ****ing tiny and ****!
I'm sure mobile games manufacturers will soon be moving off the iPhone bandwagon with its uncompetitive hardware and the consistently increasing market share of high end android phones. Which will be the last of the iPhones advantages gone. Not to mention Google working on a Siri stomper, which I have plenty of faith in them doing, and doing well.

Does anyone recognize your phone?

So i been a android user and for almost two years, my first phone was the Samsung moment on Sprint, rooted the phone still suck! Got me an evo 4g and was the best phone I ever had (came from bb and iPhone), alot people got to know the evo, but some people still asked me "is the a Droid?" verizon marketing did a lot for Android, move forward a few years anyone knows and iPhone or android, but no phone is famous at all, or at least that's what I thought, now I had my gs3 since launch day, and just in this past weeks, 5 people been able to recognize it, from walmart store, to grocery store and gas station (specially when you pay with nfc), so it looks like the galaxy s III brand is recognized and Samsung did a good job by putting the same phone on all carriers, makes me wonder has anyone else recognized your phone? And I'm not talking about tech people, just regular consumers?

Why do most people just call it "droid" or "android"? It sounds really silly if you ask me and it's all because of verizon's marketing.

90% of apple owners don't wanna hear about android. People buy iphones just because its an iPhone. Its like shoes, people buy nikes because they are nikes if you get a Nike and put the sketchers logo on it, no ones going to want it. Truth is gs3 kicks the iPhones asssss. I think the gs2 kicked the iPhones ass.

Thank me if I helped
For years I was a huge Nokia N series fan and bought euro unlocked phones with symbian, so I have always gotten the ”what kind of phone is that?" question... Around the time the original tmobile mytouch I switch to android and haven't looked back since. Bought a gs3 about 2 weeks ago and for the first time it's not "what phone is that" but "how do like that phone... I want one real bad". Personally I love tmo and love my gs3. Now iphone I have never liked but I get why it's huge... Great for what most people do with their phone but iphone may have been out played by the gs3 and could lose a healthy share of their market. Just my 2¢ though...

Is the Galaxy Nexus still good?

Here's the thing: I'm in high school, and love developing. I love the android platform because it's so much more open than, say iOS. I currently have an iPhone 4S, and my mother is going to get a new phone tomorrow. This will be her first smartphone. I know iOS is more user-friendly and Siri would be a great help to her, since she drives a lot but also likes to text/talk to her friends. So what I'm wondering, is should I give my mom my iPhone, and get a Galaxy Nexus? Are they still top of the line devices? I've been longing for android ever since my samsung continuum broke and I was talked into getting this piece of garbage. I know that my mom's interested in smartphones, and I was thinking that my iPhone would probably be the best thing for her instead of an android. Or, should I let her get an android and then keep my iPhone? Thanks for taking the time to read this, I appreciate it.
well has she tried to use your iphone yet? let her try it. and the nexus still seems to be a live and licking device i just bought mine last night and i love it.
if your momo doesnt like the iphone take her in to the store and look at some of the lower end android phones. im not sure what cell provider you have though or i could recommend some to you.
Is the nexus top of the line? Not anymore. Is it a great phone? Most definitely. And it's still a very relevant device. Plenty of development, and will continue for quite some time.

So what I'm wondering, is should I give my mom my iPhone, and get a Galaxy Nexus?...I've been longing for android ever since my samsung continuum broke and I was talked into getting this piece of garbage. I know that my mom's interested in smartphones, and I was thinking that my iPhone would probably be the best thing for her instead of an android. Or, should I let her get an android and then keep my iPhone? Thanks for taking the time to read this, I appreciate it.

Well, you'd be doing her a disservice but it depends on a lot of things, not the least of which is budget.
My thoughts: if you can get her a "powerful" android (as in, Galaxy Nexus or better, using your judgment and keeping in mind that some newer devices don't quite have the software edge) then do that. But, if it means you have to keep your iPhone.. well, I can't make that decision for you, it depends how much you like her I guess

Are they still top of the line devices?

GN is probably the best bang for the buck at this particular moment, especially if you custom ROM the hell out of it. Plus, it's relatively cheap so good if you're on a budget. (Make sure you take full advantage of its unlocked pentaband and go prepaid, preferably for the $30/month plan, which results in massive savings over time.) That said, it's about a year old and will be succeeded by the next Nexus within a few months.
Well is your mom tech-savy? No? Give her the iPhone. Yes? Buy her the next iPhone, it is just around the block.
Is Gnex top-of-the-line smartphone RIGHT NOW? NOPE. If you want top-of-the-line hardware, GS3 or HTC One X.
Is Gnex still an amazing phone? YUP! Despite the lower specs, Gnex runs smooth and fast.
Should you get it over GS3? I dunno. If you don't mind lower hardware or maybe you're on a budget, Gnex. If you definitely need top-of-the-line hardware, GS3.
My dad got an iphone4 and likes it my mom has had, palm Pre(my old) 3vo, and droid RAZR, and a touchpad cm9.
Now my dad its his first smartphone so iPhone is good for him. Mom on the other hand doesn't like iPhone.
On side note the nexus s(2010) is getting or got android JB. so I would imagine the gnex will get android K&L

I got my mom an iPhone for her birthday. She isn't to into tech but she somewhat knows what she's doing. She loves it mostly for its simplicity. And lucky Me I got my gnex.
