Not sure if anyone else is having problems in ICS builds with google calendar sync but I found a solution that worked for me. I tried different apks with no luck the problem it seems is that the ICS calendar has trouble displaying certain recurring events that GB seemed to handle fine for me. After exporting my google calendar, deleting the calendar, and then importing the saved file back into google calendar I was finally able to get ICS calendar to sync. Google how to import and export google calendar if you don't already know how, it's quite simple. If this doesn't work you can try deleting reoccurring events till you find the one causing the sync error.

THIS solved my ics google calendar sync error after updating
Yeah I had the same issue after updating to the official ics (samsung galaxy s2 I9100).
Export import solved the problem!!
SWEET
Thanks
ICS with Exchange
I am facing the same problem with my exchange calendar sync. Do you think this solution would work for this as well?
There's an app for it
I had this issue after updating my Galaxy Note to ICS 4.0.3. Calendar sync caused forced close and no data was synced. Tried deleting my corporate google account from the phone and re-adding it (my personal account synced just fine).
Bought an app called CalenGoo for less than EUR5 after confirming with the very helpful dev that it is not reliant on the defective ICS sync engine. Got everything up and running in seconds!
On other suggested "solutions" found on forums: 1) Not intrigued to factory reset the phone and restore all apps and lose their settings etc. while there is no guarantee that it would do any good. 2) Deleting recurring events (weekly meetings with colleagues etc) is simply not something anyone who uses their Google calendar for anything serious is going to do. And again no guarantee that adding the meetings again would not just cause the same problem. Rather buy a phone that works. It is ridiculous that Google/Samsung would release this kind of defective crap, and makes you think what else might be wrong with ICS if QA is this bad.
Another Fix - Change/Delete Daily Recurring events with Every Weekday Selected

I was having this Google calendar sync error constantly on my Samsung Galaxy S3 and Asus Transformer TF101 tablet. I used ALOGCAT to pinpoint the root cause although it was misleading because the log said "Weekly" recurring event when it was actually a "Daily" recurring event with "Every Weekday" checked. If I deleted these entries or changed it to a Weekly event and picked each weekday specifically, the sync errors stopped. Here's more detail on my approach. I use Gsyncit to sync between my work pc Outlook account and my Google calendar. Then I use the normal sync apps on the phone and tablet. As part of my troubleshooting I had deleted all my Google calendar entries, then reloaded the events from Outlook to Google (one way). I still was getting the sync error until I located and changed the offending recurring events. I also removed my Google accounts from my phone and tablet to force them both to load all the recreated Google appointments from scratch. This may have been overkill. Try removing or changing the Daily (Every Weekday) recurring events, first, before wiping your calendars like I did. If doing just that works for you, it will save you a lot of time.

I have solved same problem by clear data of "calendar storage" apk in application manager. then sync with Google account.

Gang,
Full disclosure - I've lurked here for the past few months, but have only just been stirred to register to try and resolve this issue. I'm thinking that if anyone can help me resolve this, it's you guys. That said, I hope to be able to contribute some myself going forward.
OK, now that I've got that out of the way...
Recently, I've been having problems with recurring meetings from Exchange on my Incredible's ActiveSync calendar. Specifically, the problems seem to start whenever I modify one instance of a recurrence (move one to another day, for example) inside Outlook on my PC - (not on the phone). What seems to be happening is that although that particular changed instance shows up on my HTC calendar in its new spot, the rest of the recurrence disappears and - even worse - I can no longer get ANY recurring meetings to sync to the phone, even if I create new ones.
If I remove the ActiveSync account, delete Calendar Data (Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Calendar Storage > Clear Data and ...Calendar > Clear Data) and re-add the account, I still have the problem and - what's worse - ALL my recurring meetings are gone (but any exceptions to them remain - WTF?!).
Before anyone asks, all recurrences have end dates (I've read plenty about recurrences w/o end dates causing problems).
To date, the only way I've found to completely fix this is to do a factory reset (yuck). Of course, the minute I modify an instance of a recurring meeting, the problem starts all over.
Anybody else see this? Provided there's no fix, is there a better way to fully flush calendar data to see if I can avoid resetting the phone? There's GOT to be something I'm missing in terms of cleaning out the calendar data, because a factory reset fixes it. Like I said above, I clear out two spots in Manage Applications: Calendar and Calendar Storage.
It's killing me. I'm clearly not doing enough by clearing data for Calendar and Calendar Storage, but I'm thinking a factory reset HAS to be overkill. Anybody know how to more fully flush the calendar data?
Thanks in advance to anyone with ideas. I'm pulling my hair out over here.

I've had this problem as well, except with Google Calendar as I personally don't use Exchange.
Clearing Calendar and Calendar Storage fixes my problem, but I think the issue is that HTC had to bridge the gap left by Eclair to sync with Exchange servers. So, my thought is to perhaps try clearing the Sync Service or Sync Feeds (tired brain has trouble with memory recall) in addition to Calendar and Calendar Storage.
Good news is reports indicate that the FroYo update contains a fix baked in by HTC.
Hope that was in any way helpful.
Thanks for the advice. Tried it, but to no avail.
That said, I'm an avid Tasker user and happened across a new thread in the Tasker Google Group that sounded awfully familiar. Did some troubleshooting and was able to prove that if I have a profile that monitors my calendar (whether this profile is enabled OR disabled), the recurring meeting problem crops up. Sucks, because I really liked my "Don't be a Jerk!" profile that automatically put my phone on vibrate when I had a meeting with "1:1" in the title.
Go figure!
That is interesting to learn! I'm a fellow Tasker and couldn't live without the program.
Hmm... I wonder if a usb sync via HTC Sync and Outlook would be a temporary fix to "reset" your calendar when it goes haywire? It's rather left field, but worth a shot.
I have the same issue and not only with recurring appointments. sometimes the reminder doesn't show up -and sound- even if it's not a recurring appointment.
the funny think is that it happens only with the appointents that I created... it's becoming really frustrating.
I never connect my phone to my PC to synch it
Known issue. Reported and confirmed by HTC along time ago. They "hope" to have it corrected in new release. Work with all recurring events from outlook or OWA, don't attempt to alter, move or do anything to them from the INC.
If you use Google connector and sync to google you are OK, but pretty lame for a phone that was suppose to be exchange compatible. HTC said it's due to the "Sense" interface and the way it connects to the phone's database.

So HTC has confirmed there's an issue when you modify appointments from the phone? Not a big issue for me, because all I ever do is accept others' invitations and MAYBE set up a quick meeting here and there. All my calendar work is in Outlook directly. Thanks for the heads-up, though. Seems silly that a UI layer would introduce issues in database connectivity. Sounds like some of the projects that go on at work - LOL.
Wow, I just now realized that I have a similar problem: ANY recurring appointment disappears from my calendar. Regardless of how I make it recurring (on the phone, on my PC, OWA, etc.) This is positively infuriating.
I actually have the recurring meetings on my phone; however the reminder is gone and the phone is not reminding me that is very annoying. for corporate users this is an awful limitation.
I'm trying to manually add the reminder to the appointment (on the phone) and see if it helps.

I tried creating the recurring appointments on the phone, which is a pain and you have extremely limited options for recurrences. The second I saved the appointement, it disappeared from my phone, but appeared on my exchange calendar online... I'm thinking about attempting to just export my recurrences from exchange to my google calendar...

Clearing those two items worked for me!
I setup all my appointments with my laptop; using the phone just screws it up. then the meetings appear on the phone without reminder.
MLT2004 confirmed it's a known issue.
for me it's mainly an issue with the reminder (VERY annoying for me since I rely on it a lot) but should I need to setup meetings on the phone I would be in trouble.
I always thought it was and activsync problem. I had this problem for 2 years with my Moto Q. Haven't had my Incredible long enough to see if this one is doing it too. Then again since I don't have to use Activesync with this phone I don't. Maybe it's the Activesync that's causing all this.
So now I seem to have a new problem, and I don't mean to hijack the thread (i'll happily start a new one if the OP prefers, but I suspect taht these issues aer related): All of my exchange appointments show up perfectly in my calendar. Even my recurring appointments. The problem is, my exchange calendar is not showing up, ie, the phone seems to realize that these appointments exist, but does not seem to "see" the exchange calendar. If I open an exchange appointment, I can see that it is, in fact, in my exchange calendar. However, if i go to "more" under calendar, I can see my gmail calendar, "My Calendar," "PC Sync," and "US Holidays." If I uncheck them ALL, my exchange appointments remain, but again, I cannot "see" the calendar, to add appointments, etc.
My email worked fine with Exchange server in Gingerbread but since I've upgraded
to ICS is not working ok, it doesn't download all emails and I keep getting
"Connection Error" messages.
Who else is having issues with Exchange server in ICS4.0.3 ?
Can we report this issue somewhere to Samsung?
Got the same problem, contacts and calendar syncing, also in two days i got 3 emails on the device as well, but the oldest ones. Have bought Enhanced Email and is working perfect.
Mine is fine on bone stock LP7 or LPQ
check the exchange server for errors if you have access. the mobile device policy might be doing something funky
Problem I'm having is that when I configure my works's exchange environment settings, only the email and the contacts synch, the calendar is not synched at all. Same problem with the Enhanced Email app only mail and contacts and no calendar? Is this something with ICS specifically or with the kernel LP7.
running STOCK LPF with XXKL1 Baseband. was experiencing battery drain. apparently its a known issue with ICS 4.0.3. Tried couple different things and deleting account and re-adding seem to do the trick for me at this point
Same here

Having the same problem. Mail/contacts sync like a charm, but the calendar just gets stuck. Lot's of wakelocks when I enable it too...
Have been searching my *** off to get this fixed, but thus far, no solution. Tried re-adding the account, even wiping the whole phone, installing AOSP calendar/mail... nothing helps
A search on Google taught me it was a 4.0.3 bug btw, and google is kind of neglecting the whole thing :/
Bottom line is, you need to delete ALL of your reoccurring events. That's the only one i haven't tried yet
Edit: Just tried it, it worked! I just deleted some random events which were really old and sometimes in Outlook 2011 giving some problems with reminders. Now my calendar is syncing again. No wipe needed btw
What I did:
In outlook 2011 for OSX (but can be any mailclient) i created a local folder. I searched for reocurring events, and started moving them one by one to the local folder, which removes them from exchange. Every 3 items, i tried sync again, and after a few tries, my calendar started working.
The problem for me was with some birthdays, which were added from the contacts by my HTC Desire in the past
Does anyone knows?
Tks

It does. My Exchange calendar syncs with my stock Nexus calendar just fine.
If you're getting the error where your calendar keeps crashing, go into apps and delete all calendar data and have it resync again. This resolved my crashing calendar issue.
Thanks bro... my problem is that my calendar does not even show as available... only google's.
Kinda frustrated...

This may seem obvious but make sure your Exchange account on your phone is set to sync the calendar.
You can also try removing your Exchange account and re-adding it to your phone.
Do you know for sure that your Exchange server/administrator allows syncing calendar with mobile phones?
Hi... all that you said i tried before. No sucess.
And yes it does allow as with touchdown it works.

didn't want to start a new thread, so i'm resurrecting this one.
I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus (running the latest release stock 4.0.4 IMM76I) and i'm having mixed results with ICS Stock calendar sycn. i've read (and posted similar feedback) on the Google forums discussing this "bug"
my setup: i have 3 exchange accounts - work (2010), family (Office365/2010) and personal (2007) - set to push email, contacts and calendar. contacts and mail works flawlessly for all three accounts. calendar sync works flawlessly for family and personal accounts. the calendar on the work account is where i'm having problems. it syncs some event and consistently excludes the several single and recurring events. I’m a program manager and rely HEAVILY on my calendar to manage my various assigned projects.
i've followed all the suggestions: clear data from calendar storage, delete and re-add the account, don't use the stock calendar widget when setting up the account (that worked for about 1 week) but still no luck with the work calendar. if i open one of the excluded events via the outlook client, make a minor change (e.g., reminder time) and then save the event, it will sync to phone, then after that a duplicate entry appears, then a triplicate entry, then it quadruples. Basically, it adds the same entry on the phone for each sync/refresh. on my outlook calendar on the pc it shows only 1 event. if i add a "test event" via the outlook client/phone, it will sync to the phone/client as a single entry, but at the next refresh, the phone entries follow the same pattern as above.
i installed a trial version of Touchdown and the work calendar syncs perfectly no issues at all. i also have a lumia 900 (wife won it at work and didn't want it) and it syncs without issue. i have a Nexus One and HTC Sensation and they sync fine, granted both are using Gingerbread. IT has told me there are no issues with my account; the fact that Touchdown and the Lumia work seems to supports my account is ok. [FONT="]
since i need my calendar for work, i purchased Moxier Mail (and use it just for calendar sync) because it's closest to the ICS stock layout. it's very frustrating that i have to cobble together software to get basic functionality to work on my GNex. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks in advance to anyone who offers suggestions.

The default calendar on my galaxy note 2 was not syncing correctly with my Gmail. I would go into settings, Google, and my Gmail and the calendar box was checked off. The little wheel was spinning and it would never stop spinning. I tried rebooting and I tried deleting the e-mail and adding it back on but no luck.
I went into the play store and downloaded Google calendar. This seems to have solved the problem since Google calendar syncs without a hitch but I was wondering if there is any way to get the default calendar to sync as well?

I was wondering this as well. But in the end i just keep using the Google one.

I keep getting a sync error as well. It has not synced since yesterday afternoon. I'm assuming it's an issue on Google's side as it did sync my calendar's at one point when I was setting up my phone.
I tried to use the Google Calendar App but so far I'm not liking it as well as the native Samsung calendar app. I like how the Samsung Calendar App has a small written description of the items that are on your calendar when you are viewing it by month.
I'm sure it will get sorted out on Google's end shortly. I hope.
---------- Post added at 11:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:02 AM ----------
I think I figured the syncing issue out.
First I went to Accounts - Google and stopped syncing my Calendar with Google. I then went to Application Manager - All Applications. Under there I Cleared Data for Calendar, Calendar storage and Calendar widget. Now, I'm only interested in syncing data from my Google Calendar so I had nothing to loose by clearing the data; but if you had other calendar data that was not syncing with Google then I assume you will loose that data by pressing the Clear Data button. After that I went back to Accounts - Google and reenabled syncing and all is well.
Hope this helped you.
Also the Samsung has a my calendar which doesn't correspond to anything in your Google calendar so won't synch. Finally the Samsung calendar doesn't offer any filtering so everything went to sync is also displayed unlike the Google Calendar.
TLDR; Samsung calendar is a piece of junk just root delete it and replace with googles
Hope this may help some people with this problem, When you add new event where it says Calendar make sure you choose your GMAIL Calendar not My Calendar.

To add to this:
1) Go into the Calendar app and then hit "Calendars" on top. Uncheck the "my calendar" box then save by hitting "done."
2) Go back into Calendar and hit the "+" to add event. Switch it to the Gmail account instead of "my calendar" and add a test event.
3) Go to the test event and delete it (or leave it if you don't mind).
4) Go back to the calendar app and add an event. It should now default to google instead of the samsung one from here on out.
Note: You can switch the prior events created by the default samsung app by going into them and switching the calendar to the gmail account. I would do this prior to doing the above steps to avoid repeating them.
Hope this helps anyone who finds it!
wow, i have upgraded my HTC Sensation XE to the custom rom Vipers 3.0.1. my calendar is not working, not sync to google calendar. any one having same issue here?
i have tried to clear the cache, remove the account and add in account, does not see any improvement yet so far.
This is a really annoying issue and has lead to problems several times: I have a few meetings every week and I usually remember them. Obviously, they are set once for a longer period of time as recurring events. But sometimes they get moved because of holidays etc. and the date and/or time changes. While Outlook on my PC shows the correct times&date (Exchange Server 2003) I cannot make it appear in the calendar app. As a matter of fact, I tried Touchdown and several other apps but none shows the events.
Here's a list of what I already tried:
Google - Lots of people have similar issues but nobody seems to offer a solution.
Searched the Apps and Themes and the Q&A thread here.
Disable sync for Exchange items (calendar etc.), then sync, reenable, sync again.
Removing account and setting up new.
Save the recurring event with minimal changes (like reminder time).
Creating a new event on the phone syncs fine with Outlook, deleting the event there also deletes it from the phone (so sync is working).
Setting the calendar event to sync to "All".
Does anyone have a solution for this?
Many thanks!
EDIT: I'm running CleanROM 4.0.5 but I don't think that's causing the issues since my coworker is running stock JB on his SIII and is experiencing similar problems.
shameless bump
Does nobody here really care about these things or am I the only one with this issue? Strange...
I'm facing the same problem. Although I'm using a Nexus 4 with Android 4.3.
I can see that some of my recurring events get dropped when syncing. Adding/ deleting new events works though.
Did you find any solution for this?
