Greetings from the dark side(s)
I’m looking to buy my first WP7 phone and have narrowed my options to the subject phones (yes, I’m aware of the price difference).
Because of WP7’s brilliant social network integration, I plan for it to be my ‘work-horse’ phone which I will carry with me at all times – always connected to 3G (or WiFi where available) and pushing all work exchange mail, twitter and facebook updates. This is to replace my iphone 4s (brilliant battery, ****ty social integration). Tried using the galaxy nexus for this but the battery craps out after only 3 hours of screen time.
Therefore:
-battery life is the most important for deciding the phone.
-I plan to keep the phone until the Apollo phones hit, after which I’ll get one of those, so upgradability to Apollo is not an issue - BUT the phone must be upgradable to Tango.
-Internal Storage is not an issue, nor is a FFC so those cons are moot.
Now, I know the Radar fits my needs better as it has a slightly bigger battery but:
-I’ve been told that a lumia device would give me a ‘truer’ WP7 experience (screen, feel, navigation, faster updates) – and I want to give the system every chance to impress me.
-I’m absolutely smitten with the Lumia’s design. ‘nuff said.
So, TL;DR - I want to know is that is the Radars battery SIGNIFICANTLY better than the lumias? If it isn’t, I’m going for the lumia BUT if the difference is as huge as this, then it’s definitely the Radar:

4 hours vs 7 hours.

Is it upgradable to Tango?
Supposedly the lumia 800 battery life is significantly better since the latest update.
http://www.pocketables.net/2012/03/...ery-life-makes-windows-phone-users-giddy.html
http://www.wpcentral.com/singapore-lumia-800-users-receiving-12070-battery-fix-update
And the Razr Maxx? Thats an Android phone and I wouldn't care if it lasted 5 years on air power I wouldn't use it. If you want a Windows Phone, and one up-gradable to Tango/Apollo, either the lumia 800 or Radar are excellent phones. Although the Radar is Tmobile and the Lumia 800 is AT&T.
What carrier are you on? Also maybe what country?
Assuming in the USA since thats all I really know about in terms of phone availability off hand:
If on Tmobile the Radar or Lumia 710 are both great. I'd lean towards the Radar because the form factor is slightly nicer (opinion), it has a Front Facing Camera, and it has 4G data speeds. The screen isn't quite as nice as the Nokia Lumia 710 however.
If on AT&T the best bets are Lumia 800 or 900 (once released), the Focus S / Focus Flash, Titan II (once released).
Personally here I'd lean towards the Nokia phones. Their build quality is very good, but Nokia is also "all in" and will throw every resource they have into keeping their phones updated and customers happy. Plus their Nokia Specific services are excellent (nokia drive, nokia transport ect).
Tango should be going to all Windows Phones, even first gens without issue.
a lot of people still getting miserable battery on the lumia, even after the said update:

horrible battery times being reported there!
which is sad. yeah, i like the lumia 800 better too. much better actually - it's the ultimate WP package. unfortunately i need something functional first and foremost, something with solid battery.

Matty I am happy you enjoy your androids. But since the OP was requesting information on WP7 I am not sure of the relevance other than you like androids and recommend them. I have plenty of androids and generally don't recommend them. Each to his own.
For the OP the latest lumia update seems to have fixed the battery life problem and they should last substantially longer.

As someone that has multiple Windows Phones, HD2, Focus, Lumia 800, I use the 800 as my daily phone so that has to say something. I am on att and even though I'm sure my 800 is searching for signal more than a normal att phone would since it lacks the 850 radio I still get a full day of normal use with 3G, GPS, WiFi all on, plus with the 800 you get Nokia Drive.

Hi guys, it happened that I can still bring back my GN and get another phone. The LG Spectrum will be available on Jan 19. By looking the specs here is what I see:
Processor GN - 1.2, LG 1.5
Camera GN - 5 mp, LG 8 mp
Screen - same resolution, LG has better colors (at least what they're saying).
Storage: GN - 32 gig, LG - 4+.
OS - here is the huge disadvantage: LG has Gingerbread versus ICS on GN. However they claim update will be available early this year.
Also, Verizon will be making LG global and it priced $100 chipper.
Guys, am I missing something? Are there any other reasons to keep GN?
I appreciate your input.
Hm, certainly you are missing couple of things.
According to quick search on Google: "(LG Spectrum) won’t get Ice Cream Sandwich until the second half of 2012". This alone kills the phone for me.
Otherwise, it lacks notification LED - one of the main features of SGN for me.
It also has buttons on the front, not soft buttons on the screen like SGN.
If I was in the market for other than SGN android phone, I would either wait for SGS3, or the new Sony Xperia S, or maybe I would just go for the Galaxy Note (ICS update expected in 1-2 months).
Stock Android Experience (esp. on Ice Cream Sandwich) > any manufacturered skin of Android.
Not to mention Nexus devices tend to get a lot of good developer support simply because its a Nexus device.
LG is possibly theeeeee absolute worse at making stable Android software, not to mention their support is lacking, and their skin is horrible. To each his own though.
LG is without a doubt the worst phone manufacturer when it comes to system updates. G2x shipped with 2.2, was promised 2.3 within weeks, and didn't receive it officially until 6 months later. Tons of people had quality control issues with 3,4,5 replacements being common. Stay far, far away from LG. G2x was fantastic to hold and was great when it works correctly, but left such a bad taste in my mouth I wont be purchasing LG products again.

When talking about processors, there's more to consider than just clock speed. To make a long story short, I'd quickly take the 1.2 OMAP 4460 over a 1.5 snapdragon S3 any day of the week. I refuse to accept a phone using a snapdragon S3.
Camera - Megapixels alone do not make a camera better. That just means it takes larger photos.
Screen - Not sure where you heard it had better colors, but with it having an IPS display that means two things will inherently be true. It will not have anywhere near the same contrast as the Galaxy Nexus and it's color will not be as vibrant. For your reference, some IPS displays are only 800:1 whereas the GNex has a contrast ratio of 100000:1. Needless to say, that's quite a sizeable difference, and visibly the difference is quite ostensible.
OS - LG's reputation with updates is worse than any other manufacturer out there. On the G2x they promised an update to gingerbread in "a few weeks", and that "few weeks" turned into several months. When they do actually update the spectrum to ICS the Galaxy Nexus will be close to getting Jellybean and will already have had multiple incremental updates already. Not to mention that the ICS update will likely be the first and last update the Spectrum will see.
As for things that you might be missing, one the that jumps out at me is the lack of NFC. I refuse to purchase a phone that does not have nfc. NFC is due to really pick up this year, and I'm not the least bit interested in any device that will lack this.
Overall the main reason I wouldn't give this phone a second thought is...IT'S AN LG PHONE. That alone is enough reason to give me pause. LG's reputation in the cell phone world is worse than horrid. They make buggy devices and then don't support them. Heck when they finally did update the g2x to gingerbread, they still left it with a froyo kernel! WTF! The fact that this phone is made by LG is enough to make it an object of derision. I would advise you to forego that phone. Friends don't let friends use LG phones.
Spectrum has the same specs as the LG Nitro for ATT. Horrendous battery life. That's why I returned the Nitro and got the Galaxy Nexus.
The Spectrum is thoroughly unimpressive after using it for a few days. Compared to the Nexus it just feels wrong in my hand. I'm afraid to see how diluted ICS is going to be once the manufacturers add their skins on top of them; it will NOT be the same experience that you get on the Nexus.
That being said the great thing about having multiple devices available is there is something to fit the needs of just about anyone. So if that's a better fit for you then go for it...

Ha! Well put. I carried the Revolution as my company phone for a while before upgrading to the Rezound and I'll agree, LG Android phones are crap. Also, add stated NFC is something that I wouldn't buy a phone without and there are a lot of things to consider when comparing processors and cameras; clock speed and megapixels are not the only factors.

I'm far from being an expert. For average user 1.5 > 1.2. In terms of screen quality I watched the presentation from CES and the guy sounded very much convincing.
People who say Samsung is bad at updating have never had the displeasure of using a LG. LG is the company who releases phones Q3 2011 with 2.2 and it seems like LG has forgotten that phone already.
Google should not give licenses(market access) to companies requesting it to release a phone running a Version that was replaced more then 6 month in the past. So LGs issue is partially googles for being so lax on giving the license out.

I give credit where credit is due. The ips screen is absolutely beautiful. Much better than the gnex. The lag on the UI and horrendous battery life is what kills it.
For what it's worth, I love my Gnex. But if I needed to be away from a charger for more than 8 hours (where I would be using my phone, not just idle stand by time) I would carry my LG Revolution. It's rock solid stable overclocked to 1.9 ghz, and with the 3000 mah extended battery, I get all day and all night use out of my phone. You pay a premium for a 4.65 screen, and that premium is battery drain. The Gnex is superior to my revo in every way except battery life, but sometimes battery life is the most important thing in a phone. (good thing I have two lines, I can choose which phone to take with me depending on how long I need the battery to last!) all that being said, I'm not usually away from a charger, so the battery life of the Gnex is not a deal breaker for me, It hasn't let me down yet, it did get down to 2 per cent once, because I forgot to put it on the charger in a low signal area for 8 hours, but that was my fault, not the phone's fault!

Well any phone with a 3000mAh battery is going to be solid on battery life and give you a day's use... You're comparing the revolution with a 3000mAh battery to a GN with a 1750mAh.
The Gnex, even if there were a 3000 mah battery available for it (which there isn't) would not get near the life that the revolution does. That's not knocking the Gnex, but pumping out the better resolution on a much larger screen, using more cores, is going to use much more battery. It's just a fact of life. The Revolution, even on the stock 1500 (or so, I think it's actually 1450 or something) battery is going to last longer than the Gnex, due to the smaller resolution and screen size. My point was only that the more the phone can do, the shorter time the battery lasts.
I've read somewhere that Galaxy Nexus' screen, being Amoled, will eventually have screen burn in. LG Spectrum's IPS display will not have any piece of that.
Went to the verizon store today to see which phone I liked better. In my opinion the Spectrum's screen is superior to the Nexus's screen. I compared them at min, mid, and max brightness while web surfing and watching HD videos. I also like the glass on the spectrum more than the nexus, it was much smoother on the spectrum. If there turns out to be a good community on XDA for the spectrum, I would get it over the nexus. However, given that I don't know if that will be the case, my choice is much harder. I think the UI is a little buggy on the spectrum and LG has had some issues with timely updates. The nexus already has a huge community here with custom tweaks and roms, and ICS is obviously better than gingerbread.
I am hoping some in depth reviews pop-up over the weekend for the spectrum.
EDIT: Also did some speed tests, Spectrum had an upload speed of around 11 Mbps whereas the Nexus barley got 6 Mbps. Download was inconsistent, Nexus got around 11 Mbps to 13 Mbps, Spectrum got 12 Mpbs to 17 Mbps. Online results are better for the Nexus, wonder if it is just the area I am in
I'm in the market for a new device as my contract is up and I my Dinc isn't doing it for me anymore, even with ICS installed. I want to know what some of you guys with experience with both of the phones think I should do. The main improvements that I want out of my next smartphone are in order:
1 - Display - mainly size
2 - Microhphone - I'm a songwriter and record song ideas to my phone all the time. the Dinc's mic is awful and distorted at anything louder than a speaking voice.
3 - Battery - I realize that with batteries not getting much bigger and LTE coming on board that this may be a pipe dream ... but I'd like to get an 8AM to midnight day out of my next phone.
4 - On board speaker - I miss calls regularly on my Dinc because it isn't loud enough and I've had to replace the speaker once already.
Here are my winners of the two after handling them in the store:
1 - Display - LG
2 - Microphone - LG by long shot (noise cancellation) - Rezound's is just as bad as my Dinc's
3 - Battery - have no clue. anyone have any insight for me? I am crazy to think getting a full day out of either of these phones is possible? I don't know if the screen/mic/data speed upgrade would even be worth it if I'm going to be tethered to the wall every 6 hours.
4 - Speaker Volume - LG
Here are a couple things I'm unsure about that I've loved about my Dinc. Any insight would be appreciated.
DEV Support - Rezound wins this by long shot, but the Spectrum is brand new, so there's no real telling what the Dev community will look like. What are the chances the Spectrum gets CM9?
WIFI Tether - I assume LG is rootable, since most LGs have unlocked bootloader & NitroHD has been rooted. Am I wrong to assume it will be rooted or does anyone know if it's happened yet?
Extra Points:
LG also had random issue of GPS not connecting while in verizon store. That could be seriously annoying.
Rezound's camera also kills LG's but I never take pictures, so it doesn't matter to me. The Mic superiority would make it easy for me to make this trade-off.
Here's a video review by wirefly that confirms most of my observations:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTMVfhLIc48
I too have an AMOLED DInc and am considering using my upgrade. I was looking at Verizon's latest crop of HD LTE phones, including the Galaxy Nexus, RAZR (qHD is not True HD), Rezound, and Spectrum. Out of all of them I personally prefer the Spectrum; I prefer its display (IPS RGB LCD beats PenTile SAMOLED or SLCD IMO), and there's something about the phone I just like despite being able to put my finger on it.
That being said, will I use my upgrade for it? NO.
Why? Phones using Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 SoC will be coming out soon, like 2Q. The chipset is 28nm, which will offer better performance while using less power, and includes one radio chip that covers all standards and thus will will use less power itself.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4940/qualcomm-new-snapdragon-s4-msm8960-krait-architecture/1
I really want the Spectrum and keep finding myself drawn to it for the reasons you outlined. And the Spectrum will be able to do the few things that my DInc can't, like HDMI out via MHL over microUSB.
If I can hold out until May or June, I should be able to get an even better phone. And I won't mind paying $300 for a phone that I will keep for almost two years, versus a $200 phone I will want to replace before the end of the year. Yeah, I know waiting always will get me better hardware. But why use my upgrade so few months before a new generation of chips come out?
Look at it this way: would someone who bought a DROID Bionic have pulled the trigger knowing that the RAZR was right around the corner? What about those people who recently got a DROID 3 only to find out the DROID 4 is coming soon?
I'm pretty sure a new phone in June will be able to go at least a year before an incremental increase in performance hits the market, and even then it won't be a big enough increase to justify replacing your phone. While the jump from Snapdragon S1 to S3 is huge, a few months later the jump from S1 to S4 will be even bigger and will come with less of a battery-usage penalty.
I think if you're definitely going to get a new phone, get the Spectrum. Root it, debloat it, and run a different launcher (I tried LauncherPro on it in the store and it worked fine). But if you can wait, just hold on a bit longer...
p.s. I wouldn't worry too much about GPS connectivity INSIDE OF A BUILDING. ;-)
Thanks for talking me off the ledge. It seems like neither phone is worth it with the battery gains that are on the horizon. I tried to do the same for a friend who got the bionic and he regrets not listening.

I get 15 hours or so on average with medium usage. The battery life for the LG is good, but it really depends what you're doing.
As for the GPS, this is the best GPS I've used in a smartphone BY FAR.
Is the Rezound camera that much better? The LG camera is pretty good too, especially the 1080p recording.
And yes, I tested the noise cancellation and recording quality myself. I'd have to say that it's nothing short of fantastic.

HI, could you elaborate on these battery gains on the horizon you mention?
It's my understanding the upcoming quadcore phones can't manage batteries any better and as far as my research goes, the only new battery tech on the horizon is lithium-air technology.

I will be the one to break it to you- This is not a forward movement in tech, fact is, there's no real data to back this up.
putting a bigger gas tank on a sports car is not a tech advancement. any device can connect with brick of a battery. that's not anything new. quad core will use the same battery technology that we all have access to.

I mentioned nothing about quad core. Qualcomm's s4 chips will have 28nm size and a tightly integrated radio that will use battery power much more efficiently.
I will be avoiding the exact scenario that you're describing with the new quad core phones that will be gobbled up by the masses just because they have quad in their name. Google it or click the link provided by liteon163 above.

also I think I am just frustrated at the lack of battery development overall & it especially hits a nerve with these devices.
as the title says, i currently use a Droid RAZR which has awesome built quality, good display, very good audio quality. its just like i everything wanted but somehow i still have the urge to desire for something better
the things s i am looking at is
bigger and sharper display 4.5" super amoled
good audio quality
better camera
good audio quality
good build quality and doesn't feel cheap
good battery life
better performance
so far the epic 4g touch have the advantage of display, speed and camera
with the recent update to droid razr that is supposed to make image quality better, i am now unsure how it stacks up
the audio quality, build quality, battery life seems to be worse than razr
so is it worth upgrading? if so, why do you think so?
I don't know if I would consider it an upgrade. Although both are terrific phones. I think the biggest difference between the two would be the service provider. You just can't compare Sprint 2 Verizon. Verizon dominates in all playing fields, accept for price. Although I am partial to the Epic, because that is the phone I have, you still have an excellent device. If anything I would wait for the Galaxy S3. It is rumored to come out some time within the first half of 2012.

I'll be honest, I wouldn't do it. This is a great phone, but with so many things on the way, I think you should hold off and wait for sprint's LTE network. Also, quad core phones are probably on the horizon. I mean, this phone is fast and at the moment, could do just about anything you ask it to do, but that may not be the case in 6 months to a year.

im not getting the quad core phone because i have no intention of shelling out money full prize
my situation right now is that i could get the epic 4g touch and sell my razr and it would cost me little but the question is, is it worth giving up the razr for the epic 4g?

I think that's for you to decide ultimately. I can tell you this though, I love this phone. It has its downfalls, it has a horrible gps signal at essentially all times and seems to occasionally freeze. However, the thing is so powerful and fast that I really could care less about that stuff. The razr, as far as materials, is built much better and is more solid structurally. But I love this thing and if you really don't wanna wait for the LTE network, then maybe you should dive in. I doubt you'll be disappointed with it.

I do have GPS related issues, mostly just locking in on location. But nothing too hard-core.

I agree, I wouldn't upgrade to the epic from the razr either. you aren't gaining much. i suggest you look into the galaxy note if you want to use it just for browsing web & media consumption. as far as I know, you get the exynos processor with the 5.3" @ >720p display display. much better device in my opinion.

Coming from an htc phone, trust me, this thing has gps issues. It's a known issue and is relatively common with samsung devices. I had freezing issues on stock ek02 and that was one of the big determining factors for me rooting. I'm still having freezing issues and have heard of others having the same issue. It still may very well be an isolated issue and in the future I will treat it as such.

i would jump on that in a heartbeat if you could find me one for $210 no contract
thats the cost of epic 4g touch im eyeballing right now
Just for the pure fact your on Verizons network is enough...The Epic 4G Touch is the best phone ive owned...Spec and build quality is to notch. The 1080p video is imo better than the Iphone. Sprint is the way to go for data...and phone selection. Priceplan wise you dont have to worry about overages and data price plans...is all included.

Hi, I recently preordered my Lumia 900 on the 30th. I was able to play around with the 900 while doing so. I noticed a few things compared to my current DVP. I love the screen on my DVP and think it looks awesome some may differ. One thing I did notice about the Lumia 900 is that the screeen sensitivity and scrolling didnt seem as fast as my DVP. I can flick the screen of my DVP and it scrolls very fast through the homepage. Colors seemed to be a bit washed out to me not as much as the Titan imo. Some people differ. On the DVP the colors seem to be very vibrant and alive. Not sure if it was due to the color choose the owner had or what but I didnt care to much for it but it didnt detour my decision to buy it. The lumia 900 felt light to me after coming from a DVP, this thing is heavy. Lumia 900 was also thinner and felt great and solid in the hand.
Few things I didnt get to test out was the volume of mic, speakerphone, and headphone jack. Nokia has been known for their loud speakerphones but not sure if they brought that over to WP. Output of the headphone jack is important to me but at the same time not really because I have a headphone amplifier that increases the volume because I use the headphones a lot.
But on the other hand im satisfied and cant wait to get my 900. Cant wait to see what apps Nokia will come up with. Im looking for an audio eq app from Nokia that would be great for me using my headphones a lot. But im going to enjoy my Lumia until the Nokia superphone comes out to replace my 900. I hope Nokia comes back to the states and take over like they did before. I remember when Nokia was the phone to get and they had tones of third party accessories for differentiating phones to whatever you wanted.

as an ex dvp owner I tend to agree with you. The screen was pretty good, and the scrolling speeds were amazing. Only the Samsung focus was on par with display. While the scrolling speed of the 900 is not the same, don't equate scrolling speed with overall speed. The 900 blazes.
As far as weight. The dvp was heavy, but it was a good heavy for me. The 900 is heavy in comparison between apples and oranges, but, to me, it fits nicely in my hands and does have a very good balance.
Perhaps the scrolling speed will have an adjustment somewhere

You know the touch seemed to be more accurate on the 900 than the DVP. The DVP scroll speed is something I will miss but hopefully they will either have a fix or bring in a setting that can change this. When I did look in settings I didnt see anything that could change this but im moving on from the DVP, it will still be around if I dont like ATT service.
really, i have tried a lot of windows phone and have not seen that difference. I used a samsung focus, htc titan and tried the L900 that i too preordered but didnt notice this things.

everyone has something they like, or don't like, best. Unless you had a Venue Pro, you may not know what we're talking about. The vp's up and done scrolling was incredible. A single flick with your finger could send scrolling forever. I've been exposed to most first Gen phones, the VP was the best at that flick.
Its such a small thing. The 900 is not broken by any means. Its just that in comparison, the VP could take off.
No big deal at all...
For me; I think im going to love the screen on this phone. I love Nokias clearblack technology displays. I would get the n9 if it was the same size as the lumia 900 since it has android and meego. ive only had HTCs really and a few other devices. and HTCs screens tend to not be the best.. also their build quality of their recent phones (sensation/amaze). I have the amaze right now and I plan on trading or selling for the lumia 900 asap last windows phone I had was the HD7 and I liked it but it had build problems and crappy sound/washed out colors. ive actually never seen a Nokia smartphone before so im pretty excited.
Unlocked of course, since i'm on tmo

compared to an hd7, this thing is s beast. Don't get me wrong, the hd7 is pretty DSM hood. But it's the poster child for old, taking its chasis design from the hd2. My girlfriend still uses it. She'll be getting my focus s next week.
After enduring a year or so of android, build quality is on top for me, followed by reliability. Both thongs seriously lacking in android. before any android lovers scream, android is fine...if you like modding. Otherwise its second rate...imo . Its a great tablet platform...fire and xoom.
I'm crossing my fingers that Nokia and ms hit a homerun here.

I was thinking about that the other day. I too modded my winnow to no end. So aneroid was attractive. I think thechange for me came when I realized that aneroid is one big mod, and operators allow a certain amont of it just to survive. In my opinion its leading to a huge mess.
With windows phone, stuff works out of box. Apps work. I don't have to worry about which version or which driver, etc.
That's not to say I'm 100% happy with winphone. I wish a slightly more flexible color scheme was in place. I would love black on white tiles,or white on black combos. I'm sure other people have their thoughts. I don't need the operating system ripped apart, or apps hacked and tweeked just run. If it wont run right on my phone, I don't want it. But that's just me..
I personally think android is getting ready to break. Too many low quality phones...too many os varients. Ice cream sandwhich is a great hit, and what's next...jelly bean? Too many exposed parts...just my opinion. I spend a lot of money each year on phones. The 900 will be my fourth this year, plus a kindle fire. I just want my phone reliable. Right now that means iphone or windows phones. Just too many broken andy Rubin looking things running around.
my experience with android is allright, i have an hp touchpad that i put ics on it and made wonders, but kinda bricked my samsung vibrant. Android is cool but i could never use it as a daily driver. I cant wait for my pre ordered nokia lumia 900! currently using an htc titan and cant stand the video lag that occurs every once in a while. Never happened on my focus but happens on the titan all the time.
Just read the reviews of One X on verge and Engadget, that phone looks gorgeous. Lumia 900 also looks gorgeous but not sure about the low resolution display of the WP7. I'm pretty sure WP8 will support higher resolution displays but it always bugs me on the current WP phones. Hope MS pushes the next gen of WP OS pretty fast.
My wife has a Asus transformer with ice. I liked the change at first but the OS still lags and gives problems. Not liking that. Android is a big mess and I never liked the UI layout at all. To cluttered.

dude, the one series will be awesome, the phone to beat, if HTC can pull it off. I was an avid HTC user until most recently when the quality just tanked. They've promised to restore the quality and build less variants. We'll see. Last HTC phone I like was the nexus one. If HTC can dupe that, winner!
But windows phone is mine now!!

back in 2010 it was my favorite phone, it was one of the best choices. I only had it for a few months before I traded for the atrix + $70 and was full of regret. yeah build quality with android devices is a huge problem. HTC just release the one s/x and they have really good build (looks like they copied a bit from nokia). but im tired of androids fragmentation. and the lumia 900 is really cheap for a new phone considering my amaze still sells for $400 on ebay which is ridiculous so im probably just going to trade.
yeah, android isn't bad I just don't use half of the features and I miss the super smooth-ness of wp7 and all the integrated Microsoft stuff.
apparently its the #1 selling phone right now

Okay so my HTC Inspire has recently stopped working so my father decided to pick up the Nokia Lumia 900 for me at his work. He says that I can either use this or pay the $125 insurance fee and get whatever phone AT&T insurance offers me.
My question is, is this phone good at all? I always hear that Windows based phones are trash so I would like to know if this phone is any different.
If Lumia 900 users could please tell me their experience with this phone, I'd greatly appreciate it as I have never had a Windows phone.
The phone is awesome so far. Don't expect the market to be as plentiful as the play store but the apps they have are good and meet my needs. I am an Android fanboy however wp7.5 has grown on me. Build quality is great and camera is stunning. Over all I would recommend the lumia or the Titan 2. Hope this helps. I plan on picking up a wp8 device next.

It's a middle of the road handset spec wise, but the design is wonderful, and depending on your phone usage purposes Windows Phone is fantastic. It lacks a few features that iOS and Android have, but its own exclusive features outweigh the losses in my opinion. It really comes down to whether or not you rely on apps that aren't featured in its marketplace, and whether the tile aesthetic appeals to you.
I think it's worth your while having a play around with it to see how you feel about it personally. Using someone else's phone for a bit and actually using your own phone daily are two very different experiences...
I love the phone. It's solid, reliable, sound quality is great, pictures are very good, fast. Never crashed on me. Lumia 900 is super.

instead go for note 2

I love it, its a great value. I have had many cell phones since the mid 80's and this one by far has been the best I've had yet, gonna keep it until the new ones get as cheap as this one was...

I couldn't agree more!
I am a Note user myself, but I still enjoy my Lumia 900 as a backup phone...
The Note 2 is a hardware beast, however I think Samsung must stop using cheap building materials if they want to compete in durability.
I haven't seen another smartphone with such great built quality as the Lumia 900, so kudos to Nokia just for that. The Lumia 900 is a tank!
Cheers!
Im going to be honest and clear. The phone blows. I owned it for around 4 months until Nokia and MSFT decided to turn my flagship phone into a legacy device. I always waited for the update to totally improve my lumia but it never came. Anyway here goes.
Camera
-****ty Camera Quality
-Grainy Pictures
-Video is OK
-Overall Nokia is known for great cameras but this phone's camera is absoleutely ****. It doesnt deserve to be called 8MP. Its worse than the iPhone 4's camera. When I switched to the GS3, the camera was miles better.
Apps
-Barely any apps
-Mainstream apps suck
-no good 3rd party apps
-No (goodwill)
The app selection is beyond terrible. Not only is the platform dead itself because no Windows Phone 8 apps will work on the Lumia 900 but WP 7.8 isnt even out. Furthermore, the mainstream apps are horrible. The twitter app is nothing like its Android/iPhone counterpart and the Facebook app isnt even made by Facebook (Made by MSFT). I will say that Nokia has some good apps but overall the app selection blows. You wont find any big companies like Instagram or Pandora or Gameloft games, but you wont even find apps such as an app for your bank or any other good 3rd party apps for other companies.
(I also want to add that you cant unlock the AT&T Lumia 900)
The Little things
-No orientation lock
-no screenshot capture
-No VPN support
-No Battery indicator (atleast in the statusbar)
-There's a lot others but I mostly forgot since I moved on to the GS3.
Overall the phone is NOT worth it. Sure if you are using it for a limited time, it will be a nice change from Android but its not a long term feasibe option. Everyone who owns one (and who is a techie anyway) has to make a huge compromise. Hope my input gave you some value.
No, I think the Nokia n9 is much better of a buy..
I like wndws phone 7, but I eventually gt bored of it. Don't get me wrong, it's a excellent device.
