since your on 2.3.5 you most likely have hboot 2.18. Your root method is going to be HTCdev.com. After you s-on unlocked with HTC dev you can either downgrade to a earlier version like froyo or GB and root with unrevoked or revolutionary or you can stay s-on unlocked but lose out on certain things because you wont be fully NAND unlocked(s-off) just unlocked s-on

HBOOT IS 2.18.0001 which revolutionary doesn't appear to support. Also highlighted in pink it is displaying *** LOCKED (OOW) ***
I have a feeling someone is going to tell me it cant be rooted....

I would rather use revolutionary as I've rooted a few other people's evo's with that method and it went fairly smooth. What im confused about is the hboot. I have to get the hboot to atleast 2.16.0001 and simply flashing a GB rom won't do that right? So do I need to find the radio thread and find an hboot file and can I even downgrade the hboot from 2.18 to 2.16 in order to use revolutionary to obtain s-off so that i can go back to what i was used to?

Simply flashing a rom wont affect radios ect. With S-on unlocked you CANT flash radios or hboots so you have to do a certain process in order to downgrade. You have to follow these steps exactly in order to downgrade. http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...18-HBOOT-with-HTCDev-com-No-More-Watermark!-)

spoke too soon, having problems pushing recovery with unrevoked. says installing unrevoked3 service and been like that for 5mins

Not trying to sound like an A-Hole here, but what you have to do is exactly what evo4gnoob saays. Theres certain steps you have to take. evo helped me root my device with the exact same setup you have flawlessly. Hes pretty sharp. Take his advice and let him teach you.

I have it to where it is currently running Froyo. I followed all of the instructions. I'm not trying to root it using unrevoked as after downgrading, the root access was taken away. The unrevoked app pushes the recovery and sits at a status of "installing unrevoked3 service..." and never finishes. That's where i'm stuck at. I'm not new to rooting, just didn't have to go about it this way the last time. If unrevoked keeps failing, then I will give revolutionary a try if it supports froyo.

I've never used unrevoked so I have no idea how it works. Always felt that revolutionary was more simpler. Revolutionary only supports hboot 2.16 and 2.15 so you can take a ota just make sure its not the 4.67 ota

I did the OTA which upgraded me to 2.33 and hboot 2.16 and tried running revolutionary. Installed the fast boot drivers as well. receiving this error:
Zerging Root... this might take a minute or so.. rawadb_open: remote closed the
connection looking for target "sync:"
Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. Try again.
Press (almost) any key to exit.
There is nothing using any usb port. This is becoming frustrating now

Hell yeah, Are you s-on or s-off. as stated by evo4gnoob earlier, there are more advantages to s-off. flashing kernells, radios and such. Makes for a much more enjoyable expierience as far as flashing and moding,,,Later

There is no problem with trying Unrevoked again, esp if you're S-ON and want to change the Recovery. But why? For S-OFF, you should run Alpharev. But you probably know this already.

I really dont have any idea what is Alpharev,I got the phone already rooted from a friend. He says he had never tried installing a custom rom and I notice its S-on but thanks for the advice.

Ran Unrevoked S-On, still showing s-off

Hi, I need to return my evo but I have s-off using unrevoked forever. I ran the latest s-0n tool through recovery (latest Clockwork) and it appears that everything went ok when looking at the log as the s-on ran. But now when I verify it still says S-off. Can anyone assist?

Yup, s on first. I'm not sure why its not taking. Maybe download it again, and possibly use a different recovery to try flashing it? Try using rom manager to flash Among RA, then try again.

I'm not sure, but I think after running s-ON and then the RUU, it'll show up as S-On.
I know it did when I ran RUU last week, after running the S-On tool, but tbh, I didn't check before running the RUU.

You do want to be sure that the s on tool works. The RUU wont turn s on if you've used unrevoked forever. You'll end up stock, s off, and no recovery to flash the s on tool.

Exactly what I was thinking so I got a zip of my recovery from the unrevoked site to run from hboot since I still had s-off which would allow me to run the zip just incase. I would be able to get a recovery again if running the stock image didn't help.
Anyway, I ran the PC36IMG image with S-off and noticed that when going though the install the HBOOT section installed, installation stopped then just went back to HBOOT where it inspected the PC36IMG again. Noticed right when that happened that it was back to S-ON. Current HBOOT is 93, not sure if it was different before and needed to be on 93.
If your hboot is version .76 it is s-off by default. No need to use unrevoked for anything.

[G] having trouble getting s-on

i have tried every method i can find to get s-on after root with revolutionary. i have flashed the s-on zip and all it does is get rid of the red bar that says "revolutionary". it still say s-off. ive done it from a custom rom and a stock rom. done it through flashing and done it buy naming the zip pc36img it installs successfully but still shows s-off. any help is appreciated
#1. The s-on is NOT 4 revolutionary. Search for how 2 unroot revolutionaty root. Its the thread with a whole bunch of ??? at the end of the title. That should lead u toward the light.

[q] HBOOT .98 s-OFF???

I looked for hours and tried many different things...
My friend has the HTC Desire, CDMA version (cspire/cellsouth version, but i think its the same hardware as the US Cellular device) with h-boot .98
i was trying to gain s-OFF but all methods were either for .93 or 1.06 and i dont know how to get there. do i need to flash new firmware before i can do ROMs?
he is fully rooted, but only on android 2.1 and he wants gingerbread sense...
any help would be much appreciated!
PLEASE
Revolutionary.io supports the HBOOT 1.06 for cdma, but it should the 0.98 as well.
If not, flash the latest firmware, then do the revolutionary procedure .
or you can just use unrevoked, it roots and S-OFF's the CDMA Desire.

if you have rooted using alpharev, then you need to downgrade the hboot using hboot downgrader from alpharev.nl, then run the respective RUU.
I could use some help with a similar issue, too!

Mistakenly formated my /system in clockwork recovery
Now I have .98 HBOOT but w/ S-OFF
can install ROMS and boot CM7

[Q] Hboot issues

Hello I've been on this forum for quite a while, but never really posted anything. Right now I'm struggling with my EVO4g because it's having issues updating the PC36IMG.zip in hboot AND it says it is S-on when other programs such as revolutionary's root program. I'll explain everything I did and provide as much information in return for some help. Also I have googled this issue and no place seems to have a solution to the issues on my EVO.
What went down:
-Decided I want to unroot my phone and start from scratch
-Tried unrooting using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141
-Says i have S-on and Hboot 6.17
-Tried rooting with revolutionary, but says I have s-off already enabled. HBoot says S-on though so this is where i get confused
-Tried going into recovery but just get the update picture and then the red triangle over the phone
-Try flashing RA recovery PC36IMG.zip through Hboot but never asks to update when it scans the img
My questions are Why is it saying I have s-on when revolutionary is saying I have s-off and how do I fix this? Why does my Hboot refuse to update through a PC36IMG.zip and how do i fix this?

This is because of your hboot 6.16. That's the hboot that revolutionary gives you after you s-off so it thinks your s-off already. What you have to do is run the ruu again and it will revert your hboot back to 2.16 so you can rerun revolutionary
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Also the reasons the PC36IMG.zip you tried to flash do not work is because your s-on the ONLY thing that will flash in the bootloader is something signed by HTC so trying to flash a recovery ect do not work. Only things signed by HTC are ruus

Here, try this. I was having this same issue and got it fixed. After I ran this RUU there was one more update, but BE CAREFUL. Don't accept the latest update from HTC/Sprint because it changes and locks your HBOOT and there's no way to root it yet. Hope this helps. I ran the ruu, let it do it's thing, accepted one update tht still had HBOOT 2.16, then rooted my phone like normal. Funny thing is, I didn't understand what ANY of this meant just a few days ago, but after 8 hours of reading and scratching my head.. it hit me and it's all pretty simple.
