I already have a rooted htc desire running stock 2.2 rom s-on. Is it ok to use unrevoked 3.22 and reroot to gain permanent unlocked NAND flash?

There is no problem with trying Unrevoked again, esp if you're S-ON and want to change the Recovery. But why? For S-OFF, you should run Alpharev. But you probably know this already.

I really dont have any idea what is Alpharev,I got the phone already rooted from a friend. He says he had never tried installing a custom rom and I notice its S-on but thanks for the advice.
Btw, i just want to make sure if it is ok not to unroot and just simply overite with unrevoked?

Has anyone S-OFFd with Revolutionary yet?
I just did my phone which worked fine, but it bombed out when i said 'yes' to download recovery image.
I did my phone and another with AlpharevX which I'm pretty sure was almost exactly the same thing, but with fewer supported handsets.
S-OFF'd day of released without any hiccups, I opted out of flashing CWM.
quick question as i don't want to start a new thread.
phone is now rooted and has cwm 3.0.0.5, does it need to be flashed back to stock in order to run revolutionary?
hboot is 093 which is required for the desire if i remember correctly

You just need stock rooted rom (no a2sd, d2ext)
Yeah I also just used revolutionary, works great and gave me no fuss.
Also s-off'edwith revolutionary, was done in less than a minute.
(it was so fast i had to check twice before i was certain it was s-off )
already had a recovery so i skipped that one.
What's the best thing to do if your device has an older HBOOT? I'm at 0.75 I think! Should I use AlphaRev, or upgrade to a more recent RUU to update the HBOOT?
Currently I'm S-OFF using Alpharev 1.8. What is the advantage of Revolutionary on the Desire? Support for the GB update?
you dont have to s-off again with revolutionary when you are already s-off.
I looked for hours and tried many different things...
My friend has the HTC Desire, CDMA version (cspire/cellsouth version, but i think its the same hardware as the US Cellular device) with h-boot .98
i was trying to gain s-OFF but all methods were either for .93 or 1.06 and i dont know how to get there. do i need to flash new firmware before i can do ROMs?
he is fully rooted, but only on android 2.1 and he wants gingerbread sense...
any help would be much appreciated!
PLEASE
Revolutionary.io supports the HBOOT 1.06 for cdma, but it should the 0.98 as well.
If not, flash the latest firmware, then do the revolutionary procedure .
or you can just use unrevoked, it roots and S-OFF's the CDMA Desire.

if you have rooted using alpharev, then you need to downgrade the hboot using hboot downgrader from alpharev.nl, then run the respective RUU.
I could use some help with a similar issue, too!
Had everything fine, S-OFF, rooted, Cm7
Mistakenly formated my /system in clockwork recovery
Now I have .98 HBOOT but w/ S-OFF
can install ROMS and boot CM7
I have superuser installed
but no root!
What can I do to gain root back?

since your on 2.3.5 you most likely have hboot 2.18. Your root method is going to be HTCdev.com. After you s-on unlocked with HTC dev you can either downgrade to a earlier version like froyo or GB and root with unrevoked or revolutionary or you can stay s-on unlocked but lose out on certain things because you wont be fully NAND unlocked(s-off) just unlocked s-on

I would rather use revolutionary as I've rooted a few other people's evo's with that method and it went fairly smooth. What im confused about is the hboot. I have to get the hboot to atleast 2.16.0001 and simply flashing a GB rom won't do that right? So do I need to find the radio thread and find an hboot file and can I even downgrade the hboot from 2.18 to 2.16 in order to use revolutionary to obtain s-off so that i can go back to what i was used to?

Simply flashing a rom wont affect radios ect. With S-on unlocked you CANT flash radios or hboots so you have to do a certain process in order to downgrade. You have to follow these steps exactly in order to downgrade. http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...18-HBOOT-with-HTCDev-com-No-More-Watermark!-)

Not trying to sound like an A-Hole here, but what you have to do is exactly what evo4gnoob saays. Theres certain steps you have to take. evo helped me root my device with the exact same setup you have flawlessly. Hes pretty sharp. Take his advice and let him teach you.

I have it to where it is currently running Froyo. I followed all of the instructions. I'm not trying to root it using unrevoked as after downgrading, the root access was taken away. The unrevoked app pushes the recovery and sits at a status of "installing unrevoked3 service..." and never finishes. That's where i'm stuck at. I'm not new to rooting, just didn't have to go about it this way the last time. If unrevoked keeps failing, then I will give revolutionary a try if it supports froyo.

I've never used unrevoked so I have no idea how it works. Always felt that revolutionary was more simpler. Revolutionary only supports hboot 2.16 and 2.15 so you can take a ota just make sure its not the 4.67 ota

I did the OTA which upgraded me to 2.33 and hboot 2.16 and tried running revolutionary. Installed the fast boot drivers as well. receiving this error:
Zerging Root... this might take a minute or so.. rawadb_open: remote closed the
connection looking for target "sync:"
Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted. Try again.
Press (almost) any key to exit.
There is nothing using any usb port. This is becoming frustrating now

hello, as i said my wildfire with HBOOT 1.01.0002 and it's written that it's S-OFF but when i try to flash recovery it wont. i rooted my phone before but i installed stock 2.2.1 rom recently. so do i have to make the whole process from the beginning and downgrade then S-off and all that stuff?
PLEASE answer me i'm afraid of bricking my phone and i do really need to root it now. will there be a problem if S-off while it's already s-off?
This also happened to me when I re-installed the stock ROM on my Wildfire. I did the whole process from the beginning again and it worked like a treat.
Message me if you need any help.

What method are you using to flash the recovery? Fast boot is not enabled on that bootloader version. You must use the pc49img method.
Flash the Revolutionary HBOOT
Fastboot flash hboot hboot.img
Or you can use the dd if of method.

Hi, is there a guide to do this for a noob?
I tried this and its not detecting the phone. Reading some guides online, im a little confused. They say you need to root it first, then do a nandroid backup, because it wont load the ROM otherwise. I thought that alpharev.nl rooted the phone too, but it seem not to be the case, its just s-off. Any help?

If it's not detecting your phone then the drivers are not installed correctly. This will not root your phone. This will S-off and install a custom recovery. Once a custom recovery is installed you can then do a Nandroid back up (for safety) and flash whatever suitable ROM you choose. If you want to stay on stock ROM but rooted you can flash superuser through recovery.
